WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR DECEMBER 2022

Good Wednesday from Ohio,
Pets- Since the passing of our two girls, I haven't yet decided on new ones to join us. Oh, I miss their love and comforting presence, but just haven't. One of the reasons is that my mother in law lived next door and loved our girls as much as we did. She took great care of them when we were at work or away. Now Sister in law lives next door, but is gone as much as we are. DH believes dogs belong at home. We have always had BIG dogs. Not sure when or if the right dogs would come along again. Would want 2 so that they could keep each other company.
Kim(((Kim)))— You are hard working, and creative, lovable and kind. You are a good friend to others. I don’t think your mother knows you very well at all. I am sorry she is difficult.
drkatiebug You look great and those pjs do look comfortable!
Machka Love those boots!
Things changing in our lifetime- less check writing, less cash, over the air radio, traditional TV channels and shows, just dropping by friends houses for a visit without calling and planning ahead, cards and letters handwritten, dressing up for events, basic etiquette, thank you notes, home cooked meals. These are the things that come to mind.
Still working on progressive goals for the new year. Budget might need to be added, just so I have a plan in the event of early retirement.
Time for yoga and breakfast.
Love to all,
Kylia

I'm not quite ready to make 2023 goals as it is not New Year's Eve yet but these were mine for 2022.
They are loosely based on a Wellness Wheel, examples of which are at the bottom of this post. If you Google Wellness Wheel, you'll see lots.
I do plan to revise these a little bit in coming days.2022 Goals
My 2022 goals are a continuation of my 2021 goals.
Upcoming Appointments
Education/Career
Medical
House
Office
Computer
Garden
Spiritual
Fitness/Sports
Cycling
Audax Tasmania
Recreation
House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (sleeping room, dining room, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.
The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house.
Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania also become more specific as they go along. There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!
The goal it to improve my fitness level.
Garden is a very small category because that's my husband's domain but I'd like to finish weeding the place and get some flowers and other plants going to choke out the weeds.
The goal is to have a relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.
Medical is mostly my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition.
The goal is to keep him as healthy as he can be.
Education/Career ... little things like becoming really good at SQL, brushing up on VB, and learning data analysis software.
The goal is to expand my skillset.
I've got a new year to work with ... I've got a list of things to chip away at. If I just finish organising the sleeping room. If I just finish the weeding. If I only make a start at organising the files on my computer. If I just start working on things, I've made progress.
M in Oz
Included in all that is the following, probably under Medical.
One of the things I want to do is to go through this list or something like it. This is an American thing and wouldn't entirely work for us, but it could get us started.
http://ssandifer.com/MyLoveList2015.pdf
Red Cross also has an Emergency Preparation Plan.
https://www.redcross.org.au/prepare
I'm also considering Personal Medical Record Plans, a record of what I do in terms of housework, bill paying, etc., a list of online accounts we have and how to access them, and so on.

On Facebook today there was a post about writing about good things that happened to you during the week and putting it into a jar weekly. I like this idea. They suggested that at the end of the year to pull the notes out and read them to see what a great year you had. Instead of using a jar I think I will put it into a journal. So this is my goal for 2023.

We had a good session. I started with the robins which I copied off a piece of wrapping paper. I did them on postcard paper.
I was nervous about starting on my sea picture. It is a photo that DH took and I didn't know how to do the light. A useful experiment. Not entirely happy with it, but it turned out better than I expected.
DH painted a beauty spot near here, called The Seven Sisters. It was from a postcard.
Now having a cup of tea and a small piece of Christmas cake.
Love you lots, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

HOLY CATS Beth! I saw some pix from Buffalo. I have a couple friends from there, but WOW! One friend of mine, whose parents are still there, have a car buried in their drive... they don't plan on getting out until spring. LOL.
What I can't tolerate is the looting! WHAT is WRONG with people?!?
Kim, I totally get you. WHO THE HECK reads on the internet that “all big dogs eat babies”?!? What a fool! OMG! And why would you have to apologize for your reaction to being asked not to attend? I'm really sorry that you had to deal with that. Seriously, 55lbs isn't that big in the first place. I hope you enjoy NYE and make incredible plans for next Christmas that don't include snooty, dog-biased, creeps. We also have a WONDERFUL Harley-sitter. Of course Harley isn't 55lbs, but she'd take him even if he was. Her grandpups are probably well over 60lbs each!
OMGosh... I'm sorry, Kim, I just giggling right now bc I'm so thrilled that your mom will NEVER think of me as a prostitute bc I NEVER wear boots. I don't like them and I can never find ones that fit my wide feet right. SO glad that I won't disappoint your mom! LOL. Really sorry that you're having such a tough time though! DANG! We chose to do the same thing this year, Machka. Girls and Fred and I decided this was the year to stop and concentrate on the grands.
I really want you to have a wonderful NYE, Kim!
Debbie, oh Debbie... what are we going to do... you know your mil doesn't have to like this person as long as the person is willing to stay on and provide the care! THAT is the issue. But Machka makes a good point, if he's treating you this way, does he really still want you around? Or does he care enough that you're there at all or if you'd leave? He really does need to see that counselor and get on some of those meds. He has no idea how much they'd help until he tries.
OMG Allie, Miles grin is enough to keep me going any day!
GREAT collages, Heather, and beautiful pictures too.
28 An opportunity you’re grateful you had: actually, my job... came to me totally by accident, my former teacher told my current boss that I had an aptitude for this kind of work and suggested that she tap me for this project and it grew into my job.
Love and Blessings, Carla, in MN6 -
Kim--I understand how you feel about Levi. When we go out of town we have a friend that will come and stay at the house with our furbabies. Hope you have a nice New Year's day.
Ginny--Please share a picture of your new tattoo. I love penguins also.
Kylia--Sorry to hear about the new shop and know it is scary. Main reason I keep working is the insurance. With all that DH from the covid shot, most insurance will not take him or we have to pay a lot more. So here I am for at least a couple more years.
Going to be close to 50 degrees today and then snow and sleet for tomorrow. Gotta love it.
I am working on making some goals for 2023. Just hope I don't shoot myself in the foot by doing so.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE2 -

Hi Gals,
Boots – I am in a pair of work boots right now, they are comfy and warm, and Levi and I were out walking so they are perfect, but when I think that this is what I need to become a or be seen as a prostitute it is beyond weird!!!!
My mom is a narcissist, she is very broken psychologically – when my dad was alive he was her rudder and kept her going in a positive direction. And he understood unconditional love and loved me completely. When he died, I lost that and so did my mom, it did more harm to her than to me. But I have had 45 years (how long my dad has been gone) of my Mom trying her best and failing so often. She doesn’t talk about her childhood but from some little bits and from knowing my grandparents I believe there was some abuse. Christmas time is the worst, because she wants desperately to been seen as a good person and a good mother, but her narcissistic personality limits her ability. Thanks for listening to me.
Pets – thanks one and all for the info on your way of dealing with your pets, I do leave Levi alone some. When I first got him I was working part time so he would be alone for 4-5 hour time frames 2-3 days a week. When he is alone he is “outside” which includes access to the garage, water and a bed in the garage and the same in the back yard. I have asked the neighbors and he seems to be quiet and sleeps a lot of the time I am gone. He doesn’t like to be outside in the dark alone, so I have a couple of neighbors that I arrange to have him feed dinner and brought inside if I am gone after it is dark.
Heather – I am so impressed by your art work. So much talent from both you and Johnny. The robins are adorable.

Got your pictures Heather! Thank you ever so much! I will be making copies soon buying cardstock and envelopes. 👍🏻💖🤗
Well yesterday's kidney appointment was an eyes opening experience! The doctor announced that my right kidney is non functioning and has atrophied. Thank goodness that is the one with two large stones. My other kidney has taken up duty, functioning fine. He said many people lose one kidney and do just fine for the rest of their lives with the other kidney. My hemoglobin numbers are good in my left kidney, but I have to watch my creatinine numbers. Creatinine is a waste product from your muscles working properly. Unfortunately if my kidney isn't working well it can't filter creatinine out of my blood properly. So every 6 months I will get bloodwork to check that. Right now its at 1.8 which is good. So I was bummed I lost a kidney, but just like my gallbladder, I had lost the function of it a long time ago. I was really relieved that I don't have to get the stones blasted, that they are so big there is no chance of me ever having to deal with the pain of passing them! That really concerned me. So I had Lee take me out to our favorite family style Mexican place in Mt Vernon. 😁. I had 1/2 of my giant burrito and today the other half! I had ordered shredded beef and throughout the burrito were big chunks of melt in your mouth roast beef. I flicked off the lettuce pieces and will add my own today after reheating it. Hot lettuce pieces really gross me out!
Well time to get some things done!

We send checks to our grandchildren for their birthdays. How would we send them money if we didn't use checks?
I have my sons' account information in my online banking, and I transfer money and then let them know they have birthday money or Christmas money. That works for us, but it's not as personal.
Lovely watercolors, Heather.

Machka- great news on all the stitches out- I still have some of the dissolveable ones in my nose- will be glad when they are gone. I think the enternal ones in my neck are there- has been hurting a lot more this morning as I try and do a few chores- Followup appointment is Friday morning
As for your question about dh- yes, he still wants me around, he doesn't seem to see there is much of a problem here. He was raised in a very negative/toxic/unloving home. He has no clue about a normal loving relationship is. That is a big problem for me because I was raised totally opposite of the way I was raised. My parents were married just 5 months of 65yrs when dad passed away. And dad would tell anyone who would listen about how blessed he was to have the love of his life for all those years. He showed her love every single day.
Love the boots- I have some close to it.
I wear boots a lot during the winter- most are my Dawgs- (like Uggs but cheap). Most are fur lined but one pair is rain boots with bright flowers all over them(70's style )
Kim- I am sorry you are dealing with those issues with your mom.Sure doesn't make the holidays something to look forward to.
My MIL feels she can give stuff/money, and then all the nastiness from her over the year is wiped away. Money fixes everything in her mind-things are more important than treating people . In some ways, he is the same way- buys lots of stuff . I told him I don't want anything, I want him to spend more time with me. That seems so hard for him- buying is easy, giving of his time for something NOT for him, is very hard.
Your mom would really think I was a hooker with my choice of boots a few years ago-(the guys at the store sure did)- We were down in Tijuana- I told them I wanted red cowboy boots- I have other colors boots(haven't worn them in years but used to), they kept asking me about the color- I did end up with some cute red, fringed boots that went with my red fringed jacket or my black jacket.
Allie- thank you for posting all the pictures of Miles- I agree, his smile makes everyone smile, makes the day just a bit better.
Karen- those two are so cute!!
No rain today. Back in the morning and for the next three days.

If we wish to send funds to our sons, we get a visa card from Rite Aid. You can buy it in whatever increments you wish $20, $50 etc. You just pay with your debit card and they have to activate it when they receive it. There are visa cards you can add money to, but I hear they can be temperamental.

My son does this every month to pay for his portion of the rent. I only send the visa cards if I am sending cookies etc to my middle, and want to send something extra. I am not keen in sending them though the mail, because you can feel them in a card, and they are apt to be stolen. In a box they aren't noticed.

Rebecca - Lord, I hate surprises like that! I'm sorry your one kidney is kaput, but glad the other is taking the load. My father-in-law never had any issues with a similar kidney that quit working, and he had just one massive stone in that one and never had another. They left it there and it never gave him any problems.
Heather - Love the watercolors, all three, but especially the robins. Don't forget to date them on the reverse! You'll want to see your progression as you become even more adept.
Karen - Hope the birth is easy and all goes well for your newest family member. Will be thinking about all of you!
Tracey - Loved the pics of your Christmas!
Regarding cash gifts, I purchase Visa or MasterCard cards for the older grands so they can get what they want wherever they want, rather than having to spend them in a specific store. I'm sure within reason they've never seen a check. The "credit cards" make more sense for a lot of different reasons. I wouldn't have had the foggiest clue what to do with it at their age, but they certainly know! I've also sent my son cash through Google Pay, but am a little uncomfortable with that. Not even sure why.
I have loved seeing everyone's images so much this month - they really do contain thousands of words about our love for our surroundings and our families, both the four-legged and those with only two legs each. I feel as if I've lived with y'all, been part of your lives, and even seen into your hearts in some cases. This group is unique in my life, it always has been, and I am so grateful for y'all.
The weather's flip-flopped, we're at 60 degrees today, a little blustery, winds out of the south, and will edge up to nearly 70 tomorrow, then it looks like we're in mid-50s for the foreseeable future. I appreciate it...
Time to get some exercise done, and clean up the fireplace. Looks like we won't be needing it anytime soon...
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Flea: I know this has been like a blur to you. I hope time slows down and you can relax and absorb all that is happening.
Michele: Hope PJ is enjoying drums!
Heather: Nice of the nanny to stay in touch. Love Bea's dress and glasses!
RvRita: Hope you enjoyed the lamb on Christmas day.
Beth near Buffalo: I think many of us have had enough of winter, especially those near Buffalo!
Carol: My sympathy to you on the passing of your brother's mother in law. I started cutting my hair during the pandemic and thought I did a pretty good job!
Machka: Glad the stitches are out. Hope the hip incision heals soon!
Annie: What happened when you put the red top in the wash? Did the cotton shrink?
Lisa: Great about your weight even if not an ideal way to get there! Hope Corey had a good work break!
Lanette: I looked up Metrical. It certainly was very popular. There were 50 to 60 deaths from it for some reason.
Grandmallie: I like the picture of Miles in the ball pit!
KJ(Kelly) Those are some pictures...absolutely frigid!
DLFK: No easy answers for dealing with DH. I hope things do improve.
Rebecca: Glad you had a nice Christmas. Hope all went well with the kidney doctor.
Evelyn: I hope the antibiotics work on the UTI and you feel better soon.
We tried a new combination of drugs with my DH and this caused some confusion. So we stopped that rather quickly. He seems okay this afternoon. I am having more trouble understanding him, but am grateful that I have been able to understand him up until now. He never just sits, always at the computer or listening to an audio book. Not much of a tv watcher. Neither am I.
Someone here recommended the Nora Roberts Trilogy: The Gallaghers of Armore. I have started Book 1: Jewels of the Sun and am enjoying this. The setting is Ireland which is always a good setting. I did go to Ireland for a week in the 80's. This is the closest I have gotten to Europe.

Worked but the plan for tomorrow is to do Denise austin’s Quick Burn Cardio DVD
DrKatie – remember when we were younger and no matter how comfortable something was, if it wasn’t fashionable, we didn’t wear it? Now we wear clothes a lot for comfort
Tatoos: When I turned 40 I thought it would be way cool to get a second piercing in my ear. Today I regret that decision. So I’m afraid to get a tatoo. I may think it’s cool today but in 10 years? That’s just me. Ginny – I’m looking forward to seeing a pic of your tatoo
Karen – great suggestion to Kim to buy her own gift! But I would suspect that her mother wouldn’t like it, no matter what it was and wouldn’t want to give it to her
Heather – I am very impressed with all the new things you are doing
Rebecca – I’m so sorry about your kidney. Will you have to monitor your protein intake?
The weather here is really weird. At Christmas time it was down in the 20’s. Now for Nyear’s it’s supposed to be up in the 50’s. Go figure!
One thing I realized while we were at Jess’ was that the pants I was wearing, I must have bought about 15-17 years ago and they still fit! To me, that was something.
Think I’ll go for my walk.

Elliptical 16/Aerobic Step 6
The FedEx delivery truck came (of course) while I was in the back on the elliptical with the music blaring, I just saw him pull out as I came to the kitchen.
Debbie - I'm so glad you take the words from all of us and understand that we just want you to be OK. I hope there is some way that you can find the joy in your life, dear heart. You deserve to be joyful.
Putting together leftovers with a twist - turning Monday's Salisbury steak into beef stroganoff. One of my favorite flavors, Worcestershire sauce. Makes me very happy without adding tons of calories. I was going to say "I'm pretty easy, foodwise," but I'm actually not at all. My husband is a saint on that side - he will pick onions out of my serving because he knows I like the flavor, but actually biting into one makes me gag.
So I'm debating getting it done before he gets home, or letting him do it (he actually likes to cook, which I do not). He's much better at making a balanced dish, whereas I will overload the Worcestershire because I like it, and that's all he'll be able to taste. Think I'll let him do it. Lazy people are endlessly creative with ways to get out of a task...
Time to go do a little scribbling.
Later, y'all,

Hi Gals,
Ok just had to give you the most fun update yet! I told you I had ordered myself boots… well Mom called again more upset than before as she just could not fine anything appropriate for me.
So I told her no gift or cash or a gift card was ok. But NO! more tears…. So I said well there is one more possibility, I know you don’t approve of boots, but my feet have been cold, the only shoes I have except for my work boots are mesh so I have a pair of short fur lined boots on order, that under my pants will just look like closed shoes, and they will be here today. I told her I would not open them and she could reimburse me and wrap them and give them to me. Honestly at this point I don’t care if she pays… just stop blaming me for liking different things than she does. She hemmed and hawed and was not happy but said yes! Does this make her my pimp?
Laughing and dancing a jig!
