Tomorrow is supposed to be a bad rainy day here. Will going on our walk tho. Kirby set up my bike on a trainer so I won’t be using his spin bike anymore
thankfully, at least for up here, the storm isn't supposed to be as huge as they had originally predicted. Only supposed to get an inch of rain instead of 2 1/2 inches. More rain after that but not huge storms- Some flooding along the Russian River but only in the usual spots and not as bad as in the past years

I read through yesterday but didn’t make time to comment. I noticed my tennis elbow was starting to ache a bit and one thing I’ve found is that my time on my phone affects it. So I limited it.
Machka - I’m so impressed with your dry stream.
Heather - I agree with you. I can’t draw at all, I am able to paint though. I don’t know why that is.
What a tremendous about of stress for your son and his family. Hopefully it all settles soon.
Kylia - my doctor and pharmacist told me to always sit for 5 minutes before taking my blood pressure and to take 3 readings and choose the lowest of those numbers. She said just getting the BP monitor set up would cause a higher reading.
I’m with you I was young with my girls and Lauryn was young when she had hers. I do what I can though.
My Grandmother was fortunate to know her great grandchildren.
Kelly - I’ve always said that school ruins children. I firmly believe that there has got to be a better way. A way that they can still be themselves and taught the necessities.
Are they still thinking of moving closer to you?
Sue - I fortunately don’t need to iron any shirts, but every weekend I’m doing laundry and tidying up too. It is not a huge task for me since we moved here. It’s a tiny place so I tend to keep it organized. I really fail at scrubbing though.
Annie - thanks for the reminder about Leslie Sansone. I used to do her videos in the winter for exercise. I need to start at the 1 mile again now. Maybe that will be a plan for tomorrow night. I’ve already had my bath tonight.
Allie - that’s a great little car!
Everything you do for Tracy and Kyle and he won’t help. He seems to be a very selfish man.
Katla - I understand homesickness. I’m sorry you are feeling it.
We would have nothing if our power went out. Heat, water, a way to cook. I think we would have to leave the house if it was Winter and off for more than 2-3 hours.
I had a decent weekend. I had an unexpected invitation to go to ceramics yesterday afternoon. Today I exchanged the second thermostat I had purchased. I am still waiting for Rodger to install it. He probably will tomorrow, he’s working tonight. I did laundry and started a project for myself.
I’ll post a picture when I have it done.
I need to get off and head to bed. Good night.

Tracey- I knew about sitting quietly for five minutes. Didn't know 3 readings. It was 114/73 this morning, but 133/73 last night. Bottom number stays close. Top is all over the place. All if the numbers have been higher the past few years. My normal prior to that was always like 98/65. They usually took it twice because it was so low. Didn't drink water well yesterday.

I have and am planning to try watercolour pencils one day soon.So BP taking is going okay. For the most part it has been in the 120s over the low 70s. Forgot to take it last night before shutting down to sleep. All of a sudden my DH wakes up and says he forgot to have me game check his deer. So up I am, walked to and from the Man Cave to get his tag (about 100 feet), do the check in, and remember BP. Batteries died in machine-rrrr! Walked to and from kitchen (about 80 ft), install new batteries, take BP. It was 148/82. High. I sat for 5 minutes quietly and retook it. 120/73. DH said I still needed to write down the other number as he thinks it was too high for the little walking I did. This morning it was 115/70. Hopefully, I am just that out of shape and nothing major. Will work on that exercise today.
My doctor tells me that my usual 148/82 is all right. It's when I sit up at 167/100 for a while that she's a little bit concerned. Still, my BP isn't high enough to do anything about it ... like medication.
In the "old days" (up till I was 51, pre husband's accident) my BP was about 110/60.Machka That is beautiful! I know you said it was a dry bed, but will it fill with water when it rains? That way you would have an actual "river".
Kylia
It won't like "fill" with water unless we have a major rain storm because it is fairly deep, but water may trickle down it to the pool I have yet to create at the bottom.I grocery shopped online for the first time this week! I placed orders at the two stores I visit, and my son picked everything up and put it away. A huge time saver and gives me a full day at home with no errand running. I ended up spending less than I normally do. I have noticed that lately I have been impulse buying new foods to try with my DH and DYS. SO...I think I am going to try the online shopping instead of my usual in store shopping. If it looks like I am saving money doing it this way, I will continue. Maybe I can take a walk/hike in place of the grocery shop.
I weighed in this morning. I am down five pounds since last week. I will take that.
I am working on making out my "50 things to do before I die" list. Some of the things I have written down are easy/cheap/free to do. I just need to do them.
Well, I think I have everyone caught up on my life so far.

Yay!! Well done on the grocery shopping. I'm sitting at home in my chair watching TV after a full day at work, and am about to my grocery shopping.
Well done on the weight loss.
And well done on the "50 things to do before I die" list. I still need to review mine.minicooper452 wrote: »I LOVE that your favorite teacher was your father Machka! Was he actually a teacher? One of my best friends, in middle school, had a father who taught there. THAT was interesting.
Yes my father was an instructor for many years and he taught me during my first degree.
Regarding professional housecleaning ... I have trouble justifying $150 for vacuuming.

@bananasandoranges ... how's the degree going?I try to do laundry, change sheets, and water plants on either Wed or Thurs. This does free up my weekends as we are usually at a car show or the farm or out of town. I will figure out when to do the real cleaning most likely during the week too. My washer has a timer on it, so I sort and put a load in before work. It starts and finishes just before we get home. The last load usually goes in the washer before bed and I will then dry in the morning. Usually only 3-4 loads depending on weather. 2 warm washes and a cold wash usually. Wearing jeans more than once helps keep it less loads.
Kylia
My laundry day depends on when my laundry basket fills.
My sheet and towel washing days depend on whether I've got sun, warmth and a bit of breeze.

I do box breathing for a few minutes before taking my blood pressure ... both at home and at the Dr's office. That way, I can get it down to about 136/80.
And yes, 3 readings, with a couple minutes of box breathing between.
I haven't checked recently, but I can usually tell when mine is higher ... my tinnitus is louder.
BP should not be taken right after exercise or feeling stressed or having a hot flash or drinking something hot.

1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Does silently working in the garden count? Done! I sat silently for 7 minutes and prayed.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Right now? I can see my Christmas decorations, I can hear Christmas songs, I can taste my coffee, I can smell my coffee, and I can feel a comfortable temperature in the room.
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I'm not in a downsizing or reducing mode so I've taken some lunch things to work, I will take an item to be mailed and another to be given to the people at work.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). I can't tell you what my favourite Christmas gift this year is yet. It's a secret.
5 Move for at least 30 minutes today. Absolutely. It's a very rare day that I don't.
6 Share a goal you achieved last year. We completed the longest bicycle ride since my husband's accident and the fastest.
7 Slow down and savor one meal today. Mmmm ... pizza!
8 Who was your favorite teacher. My father. But I've had quite a few good teachers, in addition to him, over the years.
9 Create something today. I finished creating my first work-related project plan today.10 What is your favorite lyric from a song
11 Send a card/note to someone today
12 What are you looking forward to in 2023?
13 Tell a random person they look "good" today
14 Tell us three amazing things that happened recently (you decide what "recently" means...lol)
15 Call or text someone you haven't talked to in at least a week
16 What made you smile today
17 Take a photo of something you're grateful for
18 What material comforts are you most thankful for? You can make your list as long as you like...
19 Write a positive review for a company for goods or services you've received recently
20 Write down five things you like about yourself
21 Pay it forward in some way
22 What do you most desire in your life right now?
23 Go an entire day without complaining
24 What about you makes you special?
25 Spend time with a loved one
26 When was the last time you felt pure joy?
27 Hold the door for a stranger... or a friend
28 What fear have you overcome?
29 Engage in a random act of kindness of your own choice
30 When was the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed?
31 Now try to "meditate" (sit in silence) for ten minutes...
Busy work day finalising that Project Plan and working on one of the sections of the project plus a request from my manager.
Walked 5.2 km (65 minutes). Strava tells me 400 calories burned but of course I know it's about half that.
Walked Rhody.
And now I'm grocery shopping.

Good Monday!
Forgot this yesterday...
9 Create something today- I created more peace in my house by cleaning out the closet and drawers in the guest room.
Online Grocery shopping I did it while masks were required at our local Kroger, but since then I have been going. I have found the best produce at Trader Joe's and they don't offer online. I do find that I generally spend less at grocery when I don't take my husband with me! I just wish he would tell alexa to add things to the list. I will get home and he will say, we are out of xyz. Most of the time it will wait until next visit and it is usually something that I don't eat/drink. He has occasionally called me while I am out and say I forgot to tell you we need.....
Busy week ahead....DH hunting today and tomorrow which is why I am up at 330 in the morning. REALLY, it takes the man 3 hours to get ready to leave.....I have a follow up mammo this morning. Massage tonight. Hair color/cut on Wednesday night. I have to be in Columbus on Thursday for a training class all day. Friday is my follow up on BP and heart with my new doctor. Oh, and I have to call neurology back today as they called our house phone on Friday afternoon. And Cologuard is on its way to me. I told the doctor that I was not having a colonoscopy unless we did this first as my last one showed nothing. To me this should always be the first step, not an invasive procedure.
Man, I am tired just typing that!
TTFN,
Kylia in Ohio where winter wants to return on Friday which is okay as we still have snowblowers to sell!4 -

I haven't heard anything this morning from DDIL, so I assume their strange booster rigging arrangement with her friend is still working!
My restless friend G has just arrived in France on the overnight ferry. The hotel kindly found a room for her at 8 am! Unfortunately, she forgot to check the opening times of the museums and has found that the place she most wanted to visit is shut for January. These days I always double check that kind of thing, especially in France, where they are inclined to shut more frequently. But I didn't say anything to compound her disappointment.
I finished my editing this morning. I have decided not to bother with an Afterword. The last poem more or less wraps it up. So now I have to take the scary plunge into actually publishing it. Hate that bit. I can feel the nerves starting up.
But I will do it. Of course I will. It's just a process.
Cleaner this afternoon. And I am ringing my friend L at 4.30. It should have been yesterday, but she was busy talking to an old boyfriend for 3 hours. She has apologised!
Love you loads, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -

Good morning all! Happy Monday!
Kylia- Sounds like you and I are in the same place as far as energy, lack of intentional exercise goes. So hard once you step out of the "groove" to get back in.
Tracey- Love the pic of all three of your "girls"! I have said it before, but your daughter sure looks like you!
Pip- Happy 9th birthday to Yogi! I can remember when you were posting Yogi Pup pictures for the first time!
Husbands shopping- No. No. and NO. While I admire those couples that shop together, my hubby would drive me crazy in a store. He is like a small child or a Christmas Elf. Food groups for him being: ice cream, hostess treats, cookies, etc.
Tennis Elbow- I can't remember who posted about tennis elbow. My elbow has been sore for a few days, and I am sure it is because of time spent with Javi perched on my hip. Ugh! 18 pounds doesn't sound like a lot until it is firmly attached to you for days.
Lisa - Having the kids/grands visit is wonderful; but so is the back to normal quietness. I feel you. One tactic I use with obstinate children is they don't continue to the next activity without doing what was asked. No time out. Their choice, do the task, or do nothing. If the rest of us are headed for a walk or doing something that can't be held up by a stubborn toddler, said toddler is told "You will need to stay by me/ hold my hand/just watch; because this is an activity for kids who can make good choices and get their tasks done. If you would like to do ___, you need to do your task now." I have had many toddlers have to sit out once or twice until they know I mean business.1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Done9 Create something today- Hoo boy! Well, I have already created a to-do list; but I don't think that is what they are looking for here. I will be "creating" something on Saturday...maybe I will switch this one with another day this week.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Currently: The sound of crickets from the boys sound machine in their bedroom, the smell of grass and fresh air from the open window, the blue/white glow of my laptop screen in the dark dining area, the taste of coffee, the scritchy feel of a tag on my shirt (that I will be changing out of soon)
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I am not home right now, but my linen closet is going to take a BIG hit when I get home.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). Not counting my youngest son being born on Christmas Eve; I would say a leatherbound copy of The Hobbit from my youngest son. It is not my favorite book, but it was the fact that he gave me a book. This is the first book I have received as a gift, since childhood. It is the thoughtfulness behind it.
5 Move for at least 30 minutes today- this will be easy as the boys and I will be taking a walk to the playground this morning. Extra movement will include: playground, putting sand in the sandbox and water in the water tables, building a fort in the living room, and setting up "camp" under it.
6 Share a goal you achieved last year- I am not a gardener; so my goal of growing some fruits and veggies with the kids was met. We grew green beans, carrots, radishes, and watermelon. We are going to try again this year with a bigger garden and more variety.
7 Slow down and savor one meal today- Well, the 7th was a travel day, so the meal I savored was actually a burger and fries. BUT, it was after eight hours with only a granola bar and it was in my own home, while regaling my son and hubby with "grandson" highlights.
8 Who was your favorite teacher- My favorite teacher was my 10th grade English teacher. She recognized a natural ability for language/communication in me; a kid who had a hard time staying on task, especially when it was a topic that didn't spark my interest. Instead of completed written work on the assigned topic; she let me submit a rough draft on a topic of my choice and do an oral presentation and discuss it(just the two of us). Unfortunately, she died of cancer before I graduated. I spent a lot of time talking to her about things and she was/is missed greatly.10 What is your favorite lyric from a song

Regarding haggis ... tried it in Scotland. Didn't hate it. But there are so many better foods that I doubt I will try it again.
Same with escargot. Tried it about 35 years ago. Haven't needed to try it again.
In general I prefer to stick to fruits and vegetables and grains.

My love for food and my appetite for trying new things means I love all kinds of different things. I am adventurous in cuisines, tastes and experiences.
Things I love that some people would flinch at,
Brains, sweetbreads, marrow, snails, andouillette (tripe sausage), kidneys, liver, overripe cheese, oysters, caviar. I like all kinds of 'off' flavours and interesting textures.
Having said that, most of those I don't eat regularly as I only eat meat a couple of times a week. I eat a lot of fish and vegetarian food, and I love pulses.
Tonight is sea bass, sprouted beans with coconut and spices, and fries. Not too many fries for me.

At the start of the pandemic we decided that health/safety was our number one priority. We began by limiting the stores we shopped in and by deciding that safety was more important than finding a lower price in another store. We soon switched to ordering online and curbside pick up. I like being able to go to my phone and add something to the order. On Friday evening we sit down together and finalize the list and set up our regular 8 AM Sunday pickup time. We eat simply and buy much of the same stuff every week. It has been a great process for us and an occasional poor choice of produce has not caused us to change our minds.

ahh oui ! I could eat snails, strong cheese ( ), oysters, though I don't go nuts over snails and oysters, I have enjoyed foie gras finally unethical though it seems to be. that's about it in your list and I'm not a very difficult eater, in terms of taste! I like almost all spices and herbs in variable doses... and mixes of flavours.
today had veggies rice and tofu! how is that for tame. the tofu had some kind of a nice unusual lemon flavour. the root veggies are bought "with earth". they require effort and shed some dirt, but they are very fresh; I bought them about 3 weeks ago and they are fresh as can be, as if plucked from the earth just recently. I have mixed feelings about them. the freshness is awesome. the fact that I have to give a good scrub before eating can be dissuasive when a bit worn out at the end of the day.
for breakfast buckwheat flakes soy yogurt soy milk frozen blueberries, a cut up date a bit o m syrup.
snacks: a couple of dates, a few tiny squares of date sweetened chocolate and a small apple and a bit o kombucha.
no exercise today yet except a bit of cleaning.
need to go out to get some more exercise.

escargot can vary. I think the 1st time I had it was upon stumbling upon a snail festival in Italy when very young and traveling. very fresh and served with melted butter it was good. since then it has been (I think) frozen and blech. not horrible, just not fresh and delicious. I think it's probably most commonly coming from frozen and what a bore. maybe like frozen lobster (???) or something like that...3

Beth - thank you for the lentil soup recipe. I use almost the exact same recipe, but I also add sauteed mushrooms, and hadn't thought of adding kale. I'm making a batch this morning, and I have kale the fridge. Voila!
Katla - I'm sure you do miss your river home. But so glad you will be able to live near your daughter who is taking good care of you and your husband and seeing your needs are met. So nice he's very close to where you are living right now.
KJ - Welcome home! I bet your grands are wondering where you went That online grocery shopping and pickup sounds ideal for your schedule.
I never did the online grocery order and pickup. For one thing, my cellphone is very rudimentary and doesn't do a good job with apps. My tablet probably works but it's a hassle. More important, I needed to get among people a couple times a week, so scheduled my trips very early in the mornings when there weren't many shoppers and did the handwashing/face covering thing, which all helped I'm sure.
It appears a lot of folks still do the online/pickup. During my early morning shopping at Walmart, the aisles have a lot of employees pulling product for orders. And the best thing is... if I can't find something, just ask one of them They know where everything is by heart. I see a lot of new faces among the employees, younger folks, and I'm glad they have jobs. For a person with the right personality (probably not mine, the introvert ) it looks like a fun job.
Already got a 1 mile walk in, need to pull out the weights and get going.
Make it a wonderful day!

Jinxed it. Power went out about 4am today. Called it in and went back to sleep. Woke up 3 hours later when it popped back on. Looking at the wind forecast, expect it to continue off and on for the next week. Grateful for all Joe’s preparations and readiness to protect us.
Lisa, you Firestarter you! Halelujah Haley!
Kylia heart rate over 160?!?
Lanette thanks for the SWSY reminder. Need to add to morning PT routine. Double thanks for the suggestions on questions to ask cranky DH. I need to take a deep breath, not take his outbursts so seriously and personally, and gently ask how he’s feeling … later. If I want him to communicate more, I must give him the space in which to do it without reacting immediately and defensively. [sigh] Buena suerte and hooray for tamales!
