Any readers on here use the Goodreads app? It logs the books your read, either automatically if you use a Kindle or you can add them manually. I use it both ways. It is like a social media app for readers. You can add friends then recommend or rate books you have read. You can make your additions private or not. Gives you an idea on what to read next, etc. Pretty cool app. If you have it or want me to add you, just PM me or look for me: Rita D’Elia.
RVRita
Someone else recommended it to me recently too.
I've been logging my books in a draft email, but I missed a bunch recently.

With my tablet, I can mention to my middle sister about the importance of keeping her skin and hair clean in private chat in Facebook messenger, and my Facebook feed is filled with products that help with that. Its pretty creepy! So you phone and computer listens and makes note of what you say or click "like".

There are ways to reduce the link between what you type into your computer (in emails, google, FB, on this forum, etc.) and what appears in your ads etc.

pip - Please stop beating yourself up, stuff happens, sometimes it just seems like it's always happening when you are part of it, but really it's more random than that. take care have a great camping trip. You are a great friend to all of us, a great Mom to the pups, and a great wife... who really cares if garage doors are not your thing!
smiles kim in N. California
Thx for all your kind words, I don’t know how to not beat myself up I guess.3 -
Morning peeps- I see a few women counting their steps, I’ve never kept track of them and keep forgetting to log them. When I do notice, it’s usually over 15k each day, due to walking the 6 miles no doubt. Well .we take off this morning. Wish me luck , hoping I don’t f$&*k something else up
This is a Step - Distance - Calories calculator
https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/health/steps-km.php
According to it, 10,000 steps is 7 km (for me, at my height).
My longish lunch walks are about 5 km which is 7100 steps. I do another kilometer as part of my commute plus walking around the office and climbing stairs, plus walking Rhody when I get home, plus walking around the house doing housework etc.
Have a great trip!!

Michele - I bought a pair of Birkenstocks last year and found the best deal on the Birkenstocks web page.
Amazon is fine, but I always check the direct web page as often I find the items are cheaper, or shipping is cheaper, and there often is a sale section with discontinued models.

Very tired and not able to take notes and post. However, I am enjoying everyone's comments.
We use Amazon a lot for medical supplies. I have to stay up late now to give medications and get up early as well. This is wearing me down!
We watched the Banshees of Inisherin today. This is a critically acclaimed movie and nominated for many awards. The story is easy enough to follow, but the relationship between the two men and the feelings being evoked are much more complex. I am still thinking about the movie.
I think the string on my drapery rod is fixed! I just need to get the rod back up and the curtains hooked back on.
I have my sons black lab for the week. He and his wife are going out of State. I enjoy having a granddog!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

M – thanks so much for that calculator.
Kim – I’ve found my shoes, but the problem seems to be that they don’t have the color I want in my size. Trust me, I’ve looked at almost every site, and it seems that no one has my size in the color I want

Machka … I asked my son the same thing regarding illness … whether that meant he needed a doctor’s note instead and he said the supervisor said no absences! This is a huge well known manufacturing company and I don’t believe it in this age of covid. But that’s what the Supervisor said.5

DH is in a nursing facility working to improve his health. Today was okay. We spent time together watching his favorite Westerns —Gunsmoke, was the show we watched this evening.

Good morning/afternoon/evening. It’s amazing to think that we can be instantly connected across the globe. Wishing you all that you need today.
Just sitting here watching the glow in the eastern sky gradually brighten. Days are noticeably longer as Spring begins to reawaken.
There is much to be thankful for.
Intentions for today:
♦️declutter writing space
♦️general chores
♦️sort out hall rents for my groups
♦️monthly meeting after lunch; pay rents
♦️solid habits
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for all those those who need them.

1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Does silently working in the garden count? Done! I sat silently for 7 minutes and prayed.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Right now? I can see my Christmas decorations, I can hear Christmas songs, I can taste my coffee, I can smell my coffee, and I can feel a comfortable temperature in the room.
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I'm not in a downsizing or reducing mode so I've taken some lunch things to work, I will take an item to be mailed and another to be given to the people at work.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). I can't tell you what my favourite Christmas gift this year is yet. It's a secret.
5 Move for at least 30 minutes today. Absolutely. It's a very rare day that I don't.
6 Share a goal you achieved last year. We completed the longest bicycle ride since my husband's accident and the fastest.
7 Slow down and savor one meal today. Mmmm ... pizza!
8 Who was your favorite teacher. My father. But I've had quite a few good teachers, in addition to him, over the years.
9 Create something today. I finished creating my first work-related project plan today.
10 What is your favorite lyric from a song. Difficult one given that I like so much music. But let's go with: "A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices"
11 Send a card/note to someone today. Do emails count?
12 What are you looking forward to in 2023? Can't tell you that! It's a secret ... same secret as my favourite Christmas gift.
13 Tell a random person they look "good" today. It's a bit late in the day to read this and didn't meet too many random people today ... or people in general. But I smiled at some horses and told Rhody he's gorgeous.
14 Tell us three amazing things that happened recently (you decide what "recently" means...lol)
One is a secret ... I should be able to tell you by the end of the month.
My skin cancer surgery went better than expected and all my margins are clear.
I've been able to hold my granddaughter.
15 Call or text someone you haven't talked to in at least a week. Well, I did email a couple people yesterday.
16 What made you smile today. Do you mean like evil laughter?? Or a happy smile?
Happy would be big fresh strawberries from our plants and my colouring book. I'm colouring little rainbows right now.
17 Take a photo of something you're grateful for
Our garden
18 What material comforts are you most thankful for? You can make your list as long as you like...
House
Bed
Comfy PJs
My Chair
Food
19 Write a positive review for a company for goods or services you've received recently.
I have been going to my optometrist and optical shop for several years now. I went there again today and again I was very happy with with their service.
20 Write down five things you like about yourself
In no particular order ...
My hair
My eyes
My legs
My hands
My brain
21 Pay it forward in some way .... ummm ... well, I smiled and thanked a number of people today.
22 What do you most desire in your life right now? That's my own personal, unpublicised desire.
23 Go an entire day without complaining. Today wasn't the day for that. Got together with some friends from my former workplace. I haven't seen them in a couple months so we caught up. Is it complaining if I update friends with the way the insurance company has been treating us?
[/spoiler]
24 What about you makes you special? Tenacity and determination
25 Spend time with a loved one. Every evening!
26 When was the last time you felt pure joy? I don't know if I've ever felt pure joy. What is pure joy?
I struggle with feeling anything more than content. First, the medication I have been on for the past 5 years doesn't let me. Second, I fear it ... I feel like if I feel if I feel really happy/excited about something, something really bad is going to happen.
I made the mistake of feeling happy about my husband's promotion to General Manager ... 6 months later he had a workplace accident which resulted in a permanent severe brain injury.
I try not to make that mistake anymore.27 Hold the door for a stranger... or a friend
28 What fear have you overcome?
29 Engage in a random act of kindness of your own choice
30 When was the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed?
31 Now try to "meditate" (sit in silence) for ten minutes...

Regarding Sick Days-in the US, that is really dependent upon each company.Family Medical Leave is required covered time (does not have to be paid time) and you have to be employed in a certain size company for 12 months. The specially covered circumstances due to Covid have been sunset. We have removed employees for excessive absence when they first start (while on probation). I usually will ask for medical verification if they move beyond a day or so. I also look at how flu, etc, is running around. The problem with medical documentation is, it can be very easy to get if you go to the right doc. People should always check with the HR department for the specific rules
Pip-it is very hard to keep from beating ourselves up. I am usually ready to take the blame for anything and everything. I find having a couple of people who give me fair feedback helps me get out of it.
Amazon-I use it and other online sources-very little in terms of shopping options in my town and I don't always feel like traveling an hour or so to check out multiple stores.
Made it through snow yesterday without much hassle. We ended up with 3-4 inches in my part of county-other parts less. There were quite a few slide off accidents due to rain, freeze, snow. Will see how they are today-may be a bit more snow.
I agree with consensus-more light is better! Each day a few minutes more of sunlight.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio4 -

In Australia, it is very easy to get a medical certificate from a doctor. Most doctors say, "yep, you've got a cold (or whatever), here's a medical certificate for 3 days, will that be enough or would you like an additional day or two?I agree with consensus-more light is better! Each day a few minutes more of sunlight.

Fortunately we've got quite a bit of light here still, but if I think about it, it is a little sad that we're on the side of losing light now. I try not to think about it.

Yes, light noticeably improving.
I always find January goes by in a flash and then it's February and the spring flowers are beginning to appear. I love early spring. Love seeing the shoots pushing up and life returning.
I'm meeting my friend G for lunch at Petis Pois. I normally meet her at the station, but our buses are on diversion with roadworks, so it's easier to meet at the restaurant. It's the first time she has been there. They do a reduced price lunch deal.
DH is going to cook dinner. His signature chicken stew.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Machka- I think yesterday was that kind of day. I had NO energy. Migraine and call from doctor didn't help. But really was an off day. Great job on presenting your project.
Lanette I am barefoot more often than not! I love heels but at the same time am quite content to be barefoot. I have had folks tell me I am wearing the wrong shoes when I am not wearing "running shoes" but my toes are so long and foot short, so the arches don't hit right. Just simple flat tennis shoes or sandals are my go to if I can't be barefoot. There is enough country in me! Good news on your Toro!
Debbie I do wonder sometimes what has become of some of my childcare kiddos. That was a lifetime and preinternet time though.
Annie I love that you are a great cheerleader for yourself! Stay proud of those accomplishments!
Pip Safe travels!
Heather UK Love the flowers! They look happy with a touch of freedom!
Beth Thoughts for fast recovery for DH and that the rest of the family stays healthy.
Have caught back up but now have to get ready for work (leave in 15 minutes and still lying in bed)
Have an awesome day!
Much love!
Kylia in Ohio where we missed snowmaggedon but not the cold temps!4 -

Thanks!
I had all kinds of energy before and in the presentation but the moment I walked out of the room, I could have curled up under my desk and gone to sleep.
The walk instead helped some.
Today has been more relaxing.
I also go barefoot much of the time ... especially since I moved to Australia. It's often more comfortable than wearing shoes.

Morning ladies
Here with Mr Miles
He is napping.. not much interesting going on.Just waiting for paperwork to come in to get my taxes done..2 -
Good morning ladies!
Kylia thanks for the encouragement!
I'm waiting for my mom to get up so we can do her meds. Like many things, it only takes a moment, but the waiting takes awhile sometimes.
Dumbbells and horse are today, so should be plenty of exercise. My latest diet wrinkle is that I was eating tilapia five times a week, and apparently that's too much mercury. So I bought some chicken breasts; I need to cut them into 100 calorie portions and freeze most of them. Always tweaking the diet and exercise.
On the exercise side, I might add bird dogs to my dumbbell routine. It's a prelude to mountain climbers, which would be a good cardio boost.
Have a marvelous day, and make good choices!

It is snowing and I am happy to watch it fall while I am warm & cozy inside.8

M For me pure joy is found in the small moments of life talking with a salesclerk about day to day things and finding that spark where we both leave with a laugh or a smile. Taking a nap with DrewB where she falls asleep on top of me. Working with a student when they have a break through moment. Singing and letting the joy of the music transcend through me. Working on a piece of art and getting into the zone where I let the paint and brush speak for me so that it touches my soul. These are examples where I find joy.
Joy for me is finding my golden nuggets that connects me to my spirit. It will be different for each of us. For some of us it is the smile of our grandchild... the cuddles with our pets...our loved or ourselves making a breakthrough with an illness...working through a difficult situation and not giving up... Waking up and witnessing a beautiful sunset...Visiting a luscious garden...Being a witness as a young women describes surviving severe Covid and learning to work with God in her life instead of asking why me and making the changes she needs to make to make her life work the best she can by this story what a joy to be touched by her story.
Many years ago as part of an assignment we were to come up with a definition of what art is to you.
My response is Art is creating by touching a soul. When I view or create a work of art and it touches my soul I become one with the art. Joy for me is similar. When something touches me at that level that I feel the love that is joy and I become one with it.

Worked, then stopped at Sam’s to pick up my new glasses, then Michael’s to get aida cloth, then Aldi to do a little shopping, then on my way home Kohl’s to return the potato masher I got for Jess. I did see a few Halloween things on sale 80% off and it looks like next month I’ll be getting a $5 coupon so I’ll get them then. And if they’re not there...oh well.
Carla – congrats to Lacy
The plan for tomorrow is to do Kathy Anderson’s Step Workout for Beginners DVD then go to BK just to peel and slice the onions. Then I’m thinking I’ll go to the Dollar General since they’re the only ones who have the distilled water we like, then next door to Food Lion to get tortillas on sale, there must be a way to get from there to the WalMart in Conover so I’ll see if they have the saltines we like, by then the lady who does alterations should be open. Remember I told you I picked up Vince’s fanny pack that we use at Daytona? Well, seems she put in a new zipper, but there’s no pull. So I have to ask her how you close it, we sure can’t figure that out.
Vince heard that some higher-up said that Harley was going to go to all electric. Has anyone else heard this? If they do, I wonder how their clientele will take to this????
For the most part, Amazon delivers pretty quickly. They aren’t always the cheapest, tho. I’ve been waiting for months for these Birkenstocks that I want. A friend who lives in Germany is going to send me them. Even tho with the shipping, they’ll be expensive. But then again, I know that they’ll last a long time (my last ones did) so in the end it’ll be worth it. I’ve also been waiting for a pair of gray jeans to be in stock and they’re never in stock
Rebecca – more food porn…
Heather – great flowers
pip -I’m with the others, stop beating yourself up. It’s not like you killed anyone, did you. Before you know it, this’ll be a thing of the past. Everyone is right, ***KITTEN**** happens
Rita – what I hate about getting old(er) is that it takes SOOO long to heal
Beth – hope your husband gets better real fast. MORE snow for you??????
Sue WA – good luck at the cardiologist and have a safe trip
Lisa – the only thing I do regarding social media is Facebook and that’s mainly to keep in touch with the kids. Don’t do Twitter, don’t do Instagram or Snapchat. Can’t be bothered
Off to Newcomer bowling.

I finally got caught up reading! Won't comment on the posts as it has taken me 3 days to catch up; but, love being a part of so many lives.
Got a replacement hearing aid for the one I lost on Tuesday and the dr. turned up the volume! I can hear so much better and am pleased.
I have been paying my brother-in-laws bills that come through his email address (mostly utilities) for the last two years and by some fluke got locked out of his account this week. I had given his email info to one of the people where he resides at assisted living hoping he would be able to see his email again. I think this person or maybe even the brother-in-law messed up. Went to Xfinity to try to get back in with no luck. So, I have spent a day going through his accounts and having the bills sent to my email. Just hoping I got what I needed.
It is in the 30's/40's here today and we are very surprised that there is a lizard in our house. I have no idea where it came from but first saw it at the bottom of the stairs that go up to our great room. I put a little bit of water on the kitchen floor so the poor thing would not die of lack of water.
Prayers and Good Wishes to All!
