Wow, now you can't buy books from amazon directly from Kindle. Why do they take things that work and change them up. Not difficult, just a little frustrating.2

Debbie - With a dough hook, you simply let it keep kneading in the bowl for ten minutes, and then pull it out onto a floured board and push it into the shape of big blob, no more kneading is necessary.
I've never allowed anything to rise inside a pressure cooker, so not sure what to tell you on that. I simply oil the mixing bowl, put the dough back in it, and cover the top with plastic wrap, put it in a warm place to double in size. Now that I have an oven with a proofing mode, I put it in there at 95 degrees and let it double - takes about 35 to 45 minutes for the first rise.
If you and your husband both like Hawaiian bread, you can bump up the sugar in the yeast rolls recipe, too. I keep it very low, as neither of us are fond of sweet bread for sandwiches, but you can go up as high as 3/4 of a cup for a full recipe.
I asked Mama to write me out her bread recipe, and below is the original. She wasn't big on details... She's the one who taught me that baking is NOT a science, it's an art. The food shows are all so precise, and seem to want to intimidate home bakers. In reality, every ingredient in bread recipes can be changed as you see fit. I've seen her put chicken broth in the bread for the liquid, and the resulting rolls turned out amazing.

1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Does silently working in the garden count? Done! I sat silently for 7 minutes and prayed.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Right now? I can see my Christmas decorations, I can hear Christmas songs, I can taste my coffee, I can smell my coffee, and I can feel a comfortable temperature in the room.
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I'm not in a downsizing or reducing mode so I've taken some lunch things to work, I will take an item to be mailed and another to be given to the people at work.

5 Move for at least 30 minutes today. Absolutely. It's a very rare day that I don't.

8 Who was your favorite teacher. My father. But I've had quite a few good teachers, in addition to him, over the years.

My skin cancer surgery went better than expected and all my margins are clear.
I've been able to hold my granddaughter.

Good morning ladies!
Katla, it sounds like you have found an ideal spot where DH can get care, and you can be nearby. I hope my parents can find such a deal when their time comes.
I complain more on this site than I do out loud. Because no one remembers what I say, it doesn't do any good to ask for changes in this house. I'm not sure where the line is between complaining and asking for change. A lot of the updates I text to my sister could be seen as complaints. But I think my usual mistake is being too quiet.
My knee is a little tender this morning on the stairs. I'm glad I have a good brace. I don't know what people did before neoprene, but it is a huge advancement. And washable!
It's a good day to make great diet and exercise choices. I've been pretty good so far this week, and I'm looking forward to weigh-in on Friday. I just have to keep up the good work.

Heather - Can you possibly post the recipe for your focaccia bread? I'd love to try it, and have been itching to try to make ciabatta bread, as well.
Annie - Well done on getting your exercises back in stages so you don't re-injure yourself! You can do this, my dear.

We apparently have the worst storm of the year so far headed our way, but we appear to live right on the border between snow and rain. We're only supposed to drop to 33 degrees, just above freezing, so it will hopefully just be miserable and not dangerous. Those of y'all north and east of us are apparently going to catch the snow, unfortunately, Ginny, KJ, Kylia, Beth, Allie, and the rest.
Not much in front of me, today, so maybe I'll be able to actually re-start one of my projects. The one that needs doing most is making hotpads/potholders. The two we use all the time are looking pretty sad.
Mostly, I'm just trying to keep my mind off the colonoscopy next week, which is nearly impossible. The prep is just the worst. It strikes me that it is a weird sort of accomplishment, having this many people looking up my butt with a camera on an annual basis for the last three years. Fortunately, there's no Oscar available for that film.
Time to get on the elliptical - yesterday I had to run for the loo at the 19-minute mark, but hopefully will make it to the 25-minute mark today. Then some breakfast!

I was able to walk 2 miles yesterday, and have already walked a mile this morning!!
I am going to start grocery shopping weekly so I can keep fresh produce in my fridge. I’ve been shopping monthly and freezing my produce..

We got an actual dusting of snow last night. Just enough to make our steps slippery. The ground was covered at 8 am when I got up, and here it is 9:30 and all gone except for our step and on the car. Normal snow for hear but weather man making it out to be a ‘mega-storm’ LOL.
Woke up several times last night with back spasms. Don’t know what triggered them. I haven’t had any in the last 10 years. Hurts like a bugger and there is nothing I can do about it. Mine are up below my shoulder blade into my ribs which squeeze my lungs. I get panicky about not being able to breathe then I’m up all night. C’est la vie as they say. Might be because the humidity up to 98% here due to the ‘storm’. Oh, well, it will go away, just a ghost of a pain right now. Took some Tylenol and should go away soon.
DH was home all day yesterday so did not do my Yoga, and was lazy all day so only got in 6,596 steps, close but not cigar. (My goal is 7,000 and up daily). Not sure about today. DH will be home again. He’ll just have to put up with whatever I do!

Lisa you are having the kind of weather we had about a week ago. I just stayed home until walks and roads improved. I hope you can too!
Annie Good Point on the complaining.
I have been reading two books on Highly Sensitive People. The root cause is an over active nervous system. There was a check list in the book (that was about how to deal with toxic people (ie narcissists)) on whether you are a highly sensitive person. I checked every box but one. Both books have helped me put into perspective why I react the way I do and how important it is to listen to my instincts and to protect myself from situations and people who are not right for me I am not right for them either. When you are early into a relationship use the three strike rule. Watch for clues how they treat others and animals. Three actions that do not align with your values and they are out. BE VERY CAREFUL if you are approached by someone online because it is much harder to judge if this is a trustworthy person. I have been approached by men I don't know online and I never respond to them!
The discussion on gaslighting I found particularly useful. When you are involved with someone who tries to manipulate you by trying to convince you what you are thinking and seeing is wrong example is you feel the person like the person is trying to convince you the sky is red when it is actually blue that is gaslighting. It is used by men and by women to convince their partner they are not having an affair or as a power play.
Another good piece of advice if you find you have to deal with a sociopath is to stick to the facts and document their behavior with e-mail and texts. Also be firm but neutral. If they know they can get a rise from you they disrespect you further. If they get away with their behavior they can ruin careers and others health. I like how the author said your safety comes first.
Being a highly sensitive person has some wonderful qualities. The challenge is it is easy to become overwhelmed if you have trouble setting boundaries and enforcing those boundaries.
If I feel like complaining that is a red flag to alert me something is off in the situation. It is time to pull back and access and use the serenity prayer as a guide. If it truly cannot not be changed ...then I can change my attitude or it might be time to walk away or as Kenny Logins pointed out it might be time to run.

I have a stand mixer WAY back in the back of the cupboard that I haven't used in years. May have to pull it out. That will be a pain but may do it. I do have an old antique one that would be easier to get out but not sure if it works and sure it doesn't have the dough hook.
The banana yeast roll recipe, I just mixed by hand, no kneading. Didn't rise as well as I had hoped but flavor was really good.(was up at 2am, couldn't sleep, and grabbed a small one)
This time of the year, the house is cool and I have had trouble with getting bread to rise, that is why I wanted to use the pressure cooker. For the most part, it worked well. Still working on it.
Somewhere, I have a recipe from my grandma for her buns- everyone LOVED Grandma's buns- we all joked about it but they were so good. She would make that and chili. When I was with former hubby,stationed in Mobile, grandma sent me the newspaper article of her and her recipes. I wish I could find it. I am sure it is in the book case with my recipe books but just not sure where in the book case.
I have asked my aunt(last of grandma's ten kids) and she doesn't have it and I asked my other aunt(Grandma's daughter in law) and she didn't have any BUT she did give me some other recipes in grandma's writing that I love having.
Is it 2 t. yeast or 2 packets of yeast?
Have never heard of using broth but sounds great.
I may try her recipe before pulling out the mixer.
I have a bread machine that I used to use. Maybe I can use it for making the dough but then bake it in the oven.
I just need to find a way to get nice fluffy bread and not dense bread which seemed to happen the last few times I used the bread machine. May try kneading by hand- get a little frustrations out in the process.

Margaret - your post reminds me of the "super taster" trait. The half-recipe that I gave you (with or without the wheat bran) makes nice fluffy rolls, whether filled or not. I've never owned a bread machine, so not sure what would make the bread dense. Also, it's either 2 tbsp or 2 packets on the yeast amount, but not both. Yeast packets usually contain almost one tablespoon of yeast. I use active dry yeast that I buy from Bob's Red Mill in bulk. I bought a case of it six years ago, and just finally had to buy some more last year. It lasted for all those years, I just kept it in the freezer.
Until I finally bought a stand mixture, I always kneaded dough by hand. Ten minutes of kneading a two and a half pound dough is a great upper arm workout--and that's for the half-recipe Even my big KitchenAid stand mixer can't handle the full recipe--it walks itself right off the edge of the counter when it's trying to push five pounds of dough around!
Corey helped me build a bread station that is the right height for me, as most counters are too high for me to knead dough on them unless I drag in a stepstool. #ShortGirlProblems. It also means I can leave the stand mixer out all the time, as well, without it taking up half the kitchen counter space.4 -

wow- I see myself in that so much. I complain here but stay quiet and of course, nothing changes.
I need to learn to speak up if I want things to be different. It is very hard. I have never been one to speak up. If I had spoke up sooner, I wouldn't be living the life I have been for the past 26 of the 30 yrs we have been married.

These are the cuties I was taking care of. Hard to believe they will be 9 in May. They were three months old when I started watching them.
Landyn, Emma and Joshua.
The boys were identical(in looks only, personality was sooooo different). Joshua would argue about every thing, even like if I told him the sky was blue he would argue that it wasn't. Landyn was a whiner, about everything, and then Ms. Emma Renee- that girl ran the show and she loved to tattle on her brothers or the other little boy I took care of.
For a long time I couldn't tell the boys apart except that Joshua had a mole on his belly and one on his neck. Then, my other daycare boy who was in kindergarten explained how he could tell them apart(I was constantly asking him who was who)- in his little 5yr old mind, it was simple. Landyn was a circle and Joshua was an oval. After that, it was easy, Yes, Landyn had a rounder face and Joshua had a longer face.
Lots of work and I don't miss those long hours(they were here for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and many times dinner) but I do miss having them here. Their mom decided to quit working when they were in kindergarten. Pulled them the week before Christmas, I didn't get to say good bye, She had given notice but they didn't come during that week because they were sick, grandparent was visiting...... Haven't seen them since- four years since they left. I see pictures of them now from their mom on facebook

I used to think that way about beets. Still not my favorite but know they are really good for me and oh my, mom makes some great pickled beets. I used to surprise my dad and pull some for me to take home, He remembered that I didn't care for them.
HAHAHA- yep- #ShortGirlProblem here too- just 5'. I can put my large cutting board on the kitchen table and it is the right height I think- not exactly but better,and safer, than standing on a step stool.
I little step stools in the kitchen, Everyone assumes they are for the daycare kids. Yes, the kids use them but they are for me so I can reach stuff in the upper cupboards and on the fridge. Have larger metal one handy that is used often.
I have a one pound bag of yeast I need to use up. Expired a few months ago but I tested it and it is still active.

Heather, what Kim said about hospital sitting. When my BFF was in hospital after a car accident, with her dislocated right shoulder and broken left thumb she could not ring for help. Either her mom, our best guy friend or I was with her around the clock. I drove myself to the ER for two of my broken wrists. A work buddy drove and stayed with me for the last one as Joe was at work. He’s really uncomfortable with all medical situations, but faithfully visited me every morning for the 8 days I was hospitalized with pneumonia, and I appreciated his effort. He is of the “that’s the doctor’s job” mindset. When I stress that he (or I or someone) has to advocate for his health, he says “Why?”
My best response is “It’s YOUR health. You care, the doctor doesn’t.” We are at an uneasy truce, Joe allowing me to see his results, read his appointment summaries and submit my questions via email in advance of his appointments. This is progress.
Barbie so glad to hear Jake’s surgery was successful and you are safely home. Belated best anniversary wishes. “come back in six months” is my favorite thing to hear from my dermatologist

Lucy made it to 3 miles again before she started bleeding. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, I’m going to try putting liquid bandage on the tip of the nails.

Worked then got to the gym (yea me!). The Salvation Army, then went to pick up this bag for Vince that had to be repaired, stopped back at BK to get ice, now home. They’re supposed to put in a new faucet for us. Hopefully, I’ll be able to go for my walk

Rita – don’t the weathermen ALWAYS over dramatize the weather???? Just the “s” word and they really build it up.
Lisa and Deb – I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner, but when I make the dough for the pierogi, this is the first time I used the dough hook and it worked really well. Looks like I’ll do it again and again and again. I also use the pasta attachment to get the dough thin enough rather than rolling it out. Am I lazy or what? That’s probably the only time in the year that I use it, but I am ever go grateful that I have it. Someone once told me “short people are the first to see the flowers grow and the last to feel the raindrops fall”. So be happy you’re short, I know I am
Debbie – I always said that Denise and Bryan had two things in common – their parents and their last name. Those kiddos are SOOO adorable

katla – I suspect Jerry won’t lose his job. He’s been there for something like 20 years so I’m sure this isn’t the first time this has happened. Why do they keep him on, you ask. My guess is that it’s real hard to find someone who will do things like clean the bathrooms, clean the vents from the grill, things like that. I can’t help but wonder if they maybe don’t have some sort of agreement with Connections (for older adults who have emotional issues) to keep him on in exchange for something (tax break???) I can tell you that I WILL NOT drive him home any more. The only exception (and I highly doubt this would ever happen) is if he joined AA, got his drinking under control, and if I could see after a few months that he was taking the program seriously, then I would. But that’s never going to happen

Good Evening,
So just going to throw this out there. It is much easier to get your mowers ready in the winter way before spring and your snowblowers ready in the fall well before snow. We did our best to get people their snowblowers back today in advance of our next snowmaggedon. But when you wait until the day before no promises were made! We had snow at Christmas. Everyone's snowblower should have been ready by then. Even my SIL said she just tried to start hers on Sunday (6" snow) and it wouldn't start. Good thing her brother lives next door and loves to "play" in the snow. We had a beautiful day outside today. The sun was shining, the breeze was light and not freezing. This storm is being tricky. It only has to slide a few miles one way or the other to determine whether it will be snow or rain. Wait and see and be prepared.
I am exhausted! Finally got to eat lunch at 3 today. Leftover pork chop, chicken breast, a little rice, and about 1/4 of the leftover peanut butter pie. At 5:30 my Dear Husband says we are meeting folks for dinner. Needless to say, I was a really cheap date I had water. One of my friends was really wishing I had ordered something. I explained that I was still full and it was silly to pay for something I wasn't going to eat. It was nice visiting though.
I did finally get caught up on all my work invoices!!!!! Yay!!!! All are estimated or totaled and called. Won't last long, but when we left today, they were all done. A few things I need to get done, but will address later. (Like tomorrow morning as to not procrastinate) If we do get snow we will probably be busy. We have about 30 more snowblowers to sell.
I think I am going to go read for a little while and get some sleep. Really haven't watched too much Barrett-Jackson yet with DH. That will probably start tomorrow night for me. Just not in the mood.

Today is chicken fried rice day! I'm excited!
This Friday I am having my Thanksgiving friend over. I'm excited about that too! Making shrimp soup, and made chocolate mousse' this afternoon. Its just heavy cream and chocolate chips. Here's what did:
Mixed 1/2 cup heavy cream with med package of chocolate chips. Melted 2 min on 50% power in microwave. Use more minutes on 50% power if you need to. Let to cool. Put a bowl and beaters in the freezer for 15 min.
Then beat 1 & 1/2 cup heavy cream for 3-5 minutes until stiff peaks. Add cooled chocolate. Put in serving dishes and put in fridge to firm up. The stuff in the bowl was nice.😜💖👍🏻

Had a wonderful day today, reminded me how glorious normal can feel. Hopefully more of those to come. Made it 25 minutes on the elliptical and seven minutes on the rower, too. Such a good day.
