Had a great walk- wish I had had more time. Only had an hour. Was sitting at the house waiting for Fedex to drop off dh's comic book. Waited until son's girlfriend got back so she sat and waited while I walked and got Ezie, They finally came about half hour after I got home.
Comic book graded at a 6 instead of the 9 dh was hoping for so the value is not $30,000 but is $6,000. Not bad for a 35 cent investment. He has another that is coming back on Thursday. Not as high value as the one that came back today. Hope he starts selling them. The quality isn't going to go up if he holds on to them.
Was perfect weather. Ended up taking my jacket off. T-shirt weather for the last part of the walk.
It was low tide so all the little birds were back and feeding like crazy. The swans were back too.
I plan on going a little earlier tomorrow, get more than an hour plus she gets outside half hour early.
I did end up getting my 10,000 steps.

Whoo-hoo!
2,255 steps today!
Water intake is up!
Got my dishes done!
Ready to declutter my pantry tomorrow during the “blizzard” of maybe 3 inches of snow. This Wisconsin-born lady is starving for snow. Every time we get a whiff of a disturbance, I get “weather alerts” on my phone.
Please.
I’ve got to look into adjusting my settings so I only get dings when something serious is on the way.

Yeast Rolls for Sandwiches or Filled Rolls:Bread – full recipe (taken from Mama’s recipe)
3 to 4 tbsp yeast in 1 cup of warm water, with pinch of sugar, proof.
2 cups milk or buttermilk if you want tangy rolls (warm to room temp in microwave)
2 large eggs
2/3 cup of oil
4 tsp salt
1/4 cup sugar
6 to 8 cups of flour (bread flour or all-purpose flour)
Whisk oil, salt, sugar, milk, to get salt and sugar dissolved while yeast proofs.
Add yeast, water mixture after it comes to a head. Add six to seven cups of flour until it becomes a big, mass, pulling away from the sides of the bowl.
Let it knead in the bowl for ten minutes, pull out onto a board/countertop with enough flour to make it not stick, form into a smooth ball. Clean and oil the mixing bowl, add a bit of oil to keep bread from sticking, put the dough back in it, put it in a warm place, covered with plastic wrap, until dough doubles.
Punch down the dough, form rolls or loaves, let them rise ‘til double.
Bake in 375 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until brown, for rolls. Loaves need to be in for as much as 30 minutes. Cover with foil if they get too brown.
Half-recipe (makes about 15 rolls).
2 tablespoons of yeast (or 1 packet-ish) with pinch of sugar in 1/2 cup water.
1 cup milk or buttermilk
1/3 cup of oil
1/8 cup sugar
2 tsp salt
1 cup of wheat bran (optional)
3 to 4 cups of flour
For filled rolls, when it comes to time to shape them, flatten roll dough into a small disk, put filling in the middle, gather the dough up over the filling, pinch all edges together, and turn the pinched edges to the underside, let rise, bake the same as with the regular rolls. Fillings can be ham and cheese, pepperoni and mozzarella.
I tend to use the half recipe, and it is more than Corey and I can use in two weeks... Enjoy!
question about "Let it knead in the bowl for ten minutes,"
So, do I knead it in the bowl then on the board or let it rest for ten minutes then put on the board?
I am very new to this(used to use my bread machine when I did make bread.)
I have my second batch of banana yeast rolls ready to go in the oven in 10 min.
I will try setting my pressure cooker on warm for five minutes before putting the dough in and turning it off when I do put the dough in it and let it just stay in it to rise until double in size. Having it on warm, it left a dryer spot on it, like it did yesterday when I made it(but I messed up and it was on warm for 20 min instead of 5)
The flavor is great, just want to keep practicing- DH says they remind him a little Hawaiian bread.
Think I might try a mango next time I have extras that are over ripe
It’s a typo. It should read “let it rest in the bowl for ten minutes"1 -

Andi in IL, Beans is beautiful and reminds me of Machka’s Rhody.
Lisa now that’s the good kind of shot in the arm. Hooray! smoked paprika. “..action that helps…” change the tape. Yes this!
Viv “not sure if it is the cold weather but I am having a hard time getting motivated. I blink and the day has gone. Feel like a sloth doing everything in slow motion. Roll on Spring!” Ditto Margaret and Carla on this. Has taken two sunny days in a row to begin nudging me out of an atmospheric river/short dark days slump. So easy for me to skip the exercising and open another bottle of wine… Be pleased with yourself for logging honestly!

Barbara I love your attitude. I enjoy reading your posts.

1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Does silently working in the garden count? Done! I sat silently for 7 minutes and prayed.
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Right now? I can see my Christmas decorations, I can hear Christmas songs, I can taste my coffee, I can smell my coffee, and I can feel a comfortable temperature in the room.
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I'm not in a downsizing or reducing mode so I've taken some lunch things to work, I will take an item to be mailed and another to be given to the people at work.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). I can't tell you what my favourite Christmas gift this year is yet. It's a secret.
5 Move for at least 30 minutes today. Absolutely. It's a very rare day that I don't.
6 Share a goal you achieved last year. We completed the longest bicycle ride since my husband's accident and the fastest.
7 Slow down and savor one meal today. Mmmm ... pizza!
8 Who was your favorite teacher. My father. But I've had quite a few good teachers, in addition to him, over the years.
9 Create something today. I finished creating my first work-related project plan today.
10 What is your favorite lyric from a song. Difficult one given that I like so much music. But let's go with: "A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices"
11 Send a card/note to someone today. Do emails count?
12 What are you looking forward to in 2023? Can't tell you that! It's a secret ... same secret as my favourite Christmas gift.
13 Tell a random person they look "good" today. It's a bit late in the day to read this and didn't meet too many random people today ... or people in general. But I smiled at some horses and told Rhody he's gorgeous.
14 Tell us three amazing things that happened recently (you decide what "recently" means...lol)
One is a secret ... I should be able to tell you by the end of the month.
My skin cancer surgery went better than expected and all my margins are clear.
I've been able to hold my granddaughter.
15 Call or text someone you haven't talked to in at least a week. Well, I did email a couple people yesterday.
16 What made you smile today. Do you mean like evil laughter?? Or a happy smile?
Happy would be big fresh strawberries from our plants and my colouring book. I'm colouring little rainbows right now.
17 Take a photo of something you're grateful for
Our garden
18 What material comforts are you most thankful for? You can make your list as long as you like...
House
Bed
Comfy PJs
My Chair
Food
19 Write a positive review for a company for goods or services you've received recently.
I have been going to my optometrist and optical shop for several years now. I went there again today and again I was very happy with with their service.
20 Write down five things you like about yourself
In no particular order ...
My hair
My eyes
My legs
My hands
My brain
21 Pay it forward in some way .... ummm ... well, I smiled and thanked a number of people today.
22 What do you most desire in your life right now? That's my own personal, unpublicised desire.
23 Go an entire day without complaining. Today wasn't the day for that. Got together with some friends from my former workplace. I haven't seen them in a couple months so we caught up. Is it complaining if I update friends with the way the insurance company has been treating us?
24 What about you makes you special? Tenacity and determination
25 Spend time with a loved one. Every evening!26 When was the last time you felt pure joy?
27 Hold the door for a stranger... or a friend
28 What fear have you overcome?
29 Engage in a random act of kindness of your own choice
30 When was the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed?
31 Now try to "meditate" (sit in silence) for ten minutes...

Woke up several times last night with back spasms. Don’t know what triggered them. I haven’t had any in the last 10 years. Hurts like a bugger and there is nothing I can do about it. Mine are up below my shoulder blade into my ribs which squeeze my lungs. I get panicky about not being able to breathe then I’m up all night. C’est la vie as they say. Might be because the humidity up to 98% here due to the ‘storm’. Oh, well, it will go away, just a ghost of a pain right now. Took some Tylenol and should go away soon.
I get back spasms occasionally when I've been doing a lot of work in the garden on a warm day and haven't been drinking enough water.
About a year ago, I got a really bad one in the middle of the night which wrapped around to my chest. Had me a quite worried for a while!!
Those things are scary!

I presented my Project Plan today. Sometimes I can do a presentation and I'm OK and can carry on like normal, but sometimes I do a presentation and I experience this odd combination of a "high" and yet feeling utterly exhausted.
Today, I experienced the latter: euphoria and exhaustion combined.
Some of that probably had to do with the fact that although most people in the room were on board, I knew I had 1 or 2 in there who were "hostile". But everyone was able to talk calmly and the general consensus was that we need to do this.
So I went for a walk after, bought a dress, a couple books and some colouring supplies!
And now I'm off for the weekend.
Tomorrow is Australia Day ... a controversial day but nevertheless a public holiday. Friday is my usual day off and I took Monday off just 'cause = 5 days off.
Should be a good weekend for cycling ... I hope.
I've been colouring but I'm going to go lie down and read now.
I feel like I should be doing something productive, but not this evening.

OMGosh Debbie, that's tough... after taking care of them for so long, not to get to say goodbye would be heartbreaking. But I can certainly see how you don't miss "caring" for them. THREE at a time! WOAH!
Wow Michele... just, wow. So sorry.
So excited! Lacy got a new job, coding. She's spent the last year-and-a half studying and taking her exam. She passed last month and started looking for a job where she could work from home. She called yesterday and told us that she'd gotten one with Fairview and would we like to go out to dinner to celebrate! WOOHOO!!!

Good morning ladies!
Playing a little catch up here. Warning - Long post, lol.
Karen - I want to live at your old Folk's home All of those activities sound wonderful. Neat that Lillybell and Aurora Rose-Cameron are close by. And thanks for sharing that info re your dad. I guess the lesson here is keep an eye on parents and spouses after surgeries.
Betsy - have a safe trip to Alaska, and prayers for healing for your son, and your sister. You've more than earned a trip to Panama, hope it all works out for you.
Ginny - glad you are able to get a winter walk in. I think folks in the midwest are most used to walking on snow and ice than those of us who don't have to contend with it much, similar to driving on winter roads.
Vicki - thinking about you and your knee. Hope the doctor had some good ideas about what was wrong and how to fix it. What a sad and scary thing for you and your son to go through with your friend.
Workplace violence/employee issues. When I managed the 911 Center, one of the male dispatchers started saying he wanted to kill himself while on shift. His workmates came to me, worried. So I called him to see what was happening. He assured me it was just a figure of speech - I told him perhaps it was, but it was scaring his co-workers. They loved working with him and were concerned about his well-being, and if he needed to talk with a counselor, we'd be more than happy to set that up. He got whatever problem he had resolved on his own and calmed down.
Workplace violence had just started to become an issue. The Center was on strict security lockdown after 9-11, but a guy got a job with the county custodial crew so he could stalk his dispatcher wife and have a legitimate reason to be in the Center. I seem to remember she had a restraining order against him. So getting him banned from working in the Center was first priority and ultimately he was fired. And of course he was mad at me. Did I say that job was stressful? I gained nearly 30 pounds in the 4 years I was there.
Debbie - oh my gosh, what cute triplets. Bet they kept you busy. Sounds like your DH has a good business going with his comic books and has an excellent eye for buying them and finding deals. I'll bet good Deli managers are hard to find and keep. At our local Safeway, seems that there's constant turnover in the deli, everyone is always new. BUT the employees do a great job, so no complaints.
I'm glad your DH had a good job and good retirement. Corporate was probably very sad so see him go, sounds like he was a dedicated employee. Hope he gets things resolved with that manager. Once we're retired, our BS meters are on a hair trigger.
Rosemarie - Sorry to hear about your drapery string, and glad you have someone to help with it. A few months ago I went to pull open the insulated blind in the dining room and the whole thing released and fell down on me. It was a chore for one person to get it back up and attached to the "catches", but I did it.
Machka - thank you for sharing your "summer" photos! We're due for lows in the teens early next week, highs in the 30's. And here I thought spring was around the corner.
Kylia - your snow pictures keep me from complaining about the chilly temps here. So fun to think when I was a kid, all the cars were heavy, rear wheel drive, and would still punch through a foot of snow. There were really no ditches, just cornfields on either side of the road so if a person skidded, just turn the wheel and get back on the road, wherever that was, lol. No need for tow trucks.
I called the mower repair shop, and my Toro doesn't have any problems they can see so it will get the regular service and blade sharpening. Great time to have it in there, that's for sure. I told the service manager I'll have it back in time to mow snow (predicted here next week.)
Amazon - continues to deteriorate in my opinion. I read yesterday as of Feb. 20, they will no longer have the "smiles" program which was a great fundraiser. And, they pulled a fast one on me last weekend. I decided to finally try out Crocs, and found some evidently unpopular color at a great price so put them in my shopping cart. Got distracted, and when I went back a couple hours later to push the "purchase" button the price had gone up $3.00! That had never happened before. I'm seriously thinking of giving up the Prime - almost $150 a year now and start sourcing things locally. Even if I have to pay a dollar or two extra, I think it might be an overall savings. I see I can get Britbox and Acorn without going through Amazon. My Prime is due to renew in July. I'll check it out thoroughly before I decide - can I still get rewards if I don't have prime and so forth. I've heard they are having some financial issues and Jeff Bezos might come back.
Heather - love that photo of you, DH and family on the beach. Did your son take before pictures? Will be neat to see the house once it's all finished. Glad your DIL's wi fi is working so she can continue her sessions.
RE feet and shoes: I've started taping the pinkie toe I broke last year. The tendon on top the foot connected to that toe was retracting and pulling it up and crooked. So it's tethered down into the correct position and feels better. Same thing is happening, for some reason, to the toe next to the big toe so that one got a taping too, much improved. Hoping that keeping them taped for a few months will guide them back to where they need to be and I'm also doing so stretches (pushing toes down and under) a few times a day - thanks again Bob and Brad, lol. AND much gratitude for KT tape!
I'm seeing thoughts changing among Podiatrists and PT's about shoes - now going for flat soles, wide toe boxes. So Hoka's and New Balance with the 1" heels and lifted up toe box (so the foot "rolls" and takes pressure off the metatarsals) might not be so good for everyone. Going barefoot, my feet don't hurt and my balance is much improved. Crocs are recommended.
I'll need to go shoe shopping one of these days but I'm taking my time. Need to keep my feet happy.
Have a great day!

Good morning ladies! Thanks for the encouragement and smiles!
We have a storm due as well, and I can feel the barometer falling all over my achy body. Maybe another cup of tea will help me get going. I had thought about doing the two miles again, but I had better listen to my body or my knees will punish me!
I have to go back to the grocery store for some things I forgot. My list failed me, because I thought I was done and quit looking at it. First time that's happened. But it makes me question my abilities.
Have a marvelous day! If you make good diet and exercise choices now, you will be ready for summer!

Morning peeps- I see a few women counting their steps, I’ve never kept track of them and keep forgetting to log them. When I do notice, it’s usually over 15k each day, due to walking the 6 miles no doubt. Well .we take off this morning. Wish me luck , hoping I don’t f$&*k something else up12

I love living in a place with changing seasons. I have enjoyed the several months of walking for two hours in the dark each morning and now I'm enjoying the light beginning to shine at the end of my walk...a little more each day.
We have had excellent results with Amazon. There are many shows we watch on Amazon Prime and we order many items that are not available locally and they arrive quickly. After a long wait I was finally able to find my favorite New Balance shoes that been unavailable anywhere. They arrived in only a few days.
I've listened to several podcasts lately about happiness and common themes are having close relationships and being your own cheerleader even about simple accomplishments like getting out of bed and bathing.
We had a big cooking day yesterday. Jake made enough of his barbecue flavored chicken to put six meals in the freezer and I baked enough chicken (breast for me, thighs for him) to bag into the freezer for four meals.
In Gretchen Rubin's recent podcast, she shared a lot of ideas from people about how to be prepared to go outdoors every day no matter the weather. I am grateful for my collection of outdoor gear for any temperature and weather condition so I have the freedom to go outside.

So husband came home from gym, and sat and ate one of the mousse containers, made me happy! He needs more fat in his life! Plus he's lost 10 lbs in the last month, which worries me. But he's in good spirits, and his gym time is an hour away from me and out of the house. I get time in a completely quiet house, and that is good for me. He said it was really good.👍🏻 I had spooned it into leftover glass jars that my Yoplay French style yogurt had come in. What a mess that was! I was just pouring the mixture in from the bowl, so it was just going everywhere. It was like playing with mud pies, and I just winged it. Ended up wiping down each container with a wet dish rag but whatever. It still gave me 8 little cute cups worth. I saved a couple of chocolate chips to sprinkle on top.😜😁
Today's meal is a a ripe tomato that's been talking to me from the counter. So making a BLT sandwich.
Oh an a container of mousse'.

Heather ... happy looking flowers!
Pip ... I second that you stop beating yourself up. Did your husband get upset with you? Did he yell at you when the garage door broke? I'm thinking he didn't. So why are you doing those things? "*kitten*" happens.
So my husband has Covid. I wasn't feeling well late last week and over the weekend. Just a really bad headache and feeling off. Had chills on Sunday, but no fever. Awakened Monday and felt perfectly fine. Still, I tested (and was negative) because we had multiple appointments scheduled for my mom, which we took her to. Monday evening my husband had a sore throat. Tested yesterday morning and he has covid. I continue to feel fine. My son feels fine ... and pray he remains covid-free because he just started a new job on Monday and they've been told that more than one day of illness and they're fired!?! Not quite sure how they get away with that. My husband is holed up in the back bedroom and is pretty miserable and I wear a mask when I take his meals to him. Lots of sanitizing going on here. My mom's facility was made aware that she's been exposed and they'll watch her for 10 days for symptoms and test on day five.
See Pip ... "*kitten*" happens.
