Was it Debbie who mentioned doing piriformis stretches in the shower? Thank you so much, whoever it was. I have had dramatic improvement in flexibility, back/sciatic pain, sitting posture, and stride after just 2 weeks! Wow!

Sometimes I'll even "yell" at them in my head if I get thinking about someone or what someone did a bit too much.
"What are you doing in my head ... Get Out!" And I'll think of something else like my cat or bees or the dry stream I'm creating. Or I'll start singing to myself.

Morning, y'all,
Asked Corey to wake me before he left - I have to go to the gastroenterologist office this morning, and wanted time for the pills to do their work before I go... Today is just to discuss the medications they have me on, and whether to continue on the same course or change. Next colonoscopy scheduled in July.
The family is all still asleep, so I have a couple hours before the chaos begins. They'll be up before I head into my appointment, and may or may not be gone when I get back. My daughter wants to go with me to my appointment, but I don't know if she can even be at the appointment with me - hospitals are still rules-ridden from the pandemic, and keep people traffic to a minimum, I know. I told her she might be sitting in the car for an hour in the parking lot, but she may go anyway. Stubborn like her daddy, that one. Plus, we both want to spend every possible minute together before they go, as they'll be in Hawaii by this time next month. May not see her and her husband and my grands for a long time. Not thinking about that because I can't change it.
Karen - I'm so pleased you found your way to the assessment that you needed to accept your son's gesture for what it was and let him savor his emotional accomplishment.
Heather - Same with your DH. You were wise to step back from your needs as a couple and let your DH engage with his individual needs for now. It's hard--I can't get Corey to discuss end-of-life issues at all, but have decided that I have to get those settled in the next few months. Your inspiration just reminded me to reach out to an attorney's office nearby that gets great reviews and deals with estate planning and wills. No more procrastination!
OK, the daughter is up, either we or I will have to leave in an hour or so, best get in the shower quick and get ungrubby.
Love y'all,

I've found my download of the Advanced Directive, so need to get that printed out, written, signed and witnessed. Then I need to order a card to keep in my wallet. Baby steps.
I also revised my new poem, A Quiet Day, and filed it in Word, 'New Poetry'.
I did my 5k this morning. A dull day, but the breeze wasn't too bad.
Cleaner this afternoon. Our window cleaner didn't come last week when he was due. He comes every two months. No news about why.

Good morning ladies!
Pip - where did you get that dog grooming kit? Looks ideal.
Kylia - does your brother live in Indiana? It would be a lot of fun to attend the Indy 500. I never went but my college friends used to head down there and party - I went to Ball State in Muncie for a few years. Rowdy infield crowd in the early 1970's, lol.
Karen - thank you for the update on Griffin. Griffin and Jilli are developing into pretty tough and resilient kids - would they be this way if they hadn't had to contend with their dad? Makes a person wonder. Adversity can make us stronger I think. You were and are source of strength, love, and stability for them.
And it's heartening to understand that your son is working through forgiveness in his own way.
I agree. The ladies in this group are so wise. It's a good place to be. We are so lucky to have each other.
Saturday, my neighbor across the street, Roger, asked if I wanted to sell him the old moss-covered John Deere mower that had been sitting in the back yard for the past 6 years. I said sure, and he towed it across the street to spiff it up. He's one of those crafty guys who can fix anything and soon I heard it trying to sputter back to life.
I told him I was thinking about getting chickens, I found a coop I liked at Tractor Supply, and I thought it needed another window and/or ventilation. He said he could do that for me and I'm meeting him at TS this morning to look at the floor model! Plus I wanted his opinion on the quality and whether it was worth the money.
If I do get a few hens, there's still a lot of work to be done to prepare the spot. He lived on a farm in S. Dakota as a kid, so I'd have a built-in chicken minder if I had to go out of town.
Roger is 78 and likes to keep busy, and his wife says he needs projects - it makes him antsy to stay in the house. Sounds like my DH, my dad and my brother.
I'm heading out to the shop to see what else I can uncover he can tinker with, lol.
Make it a great week, ladies.

Had good visit with Step son and family. GS came in second at wrestling-he shows some real potential. We enjoyed a dinner together.
Came home and got a walk in. Cold started feeling worse. Right now I am pretty miserable with it. Tested negative for covid (hoping it stays that way). Tomorrow is a scheduled work from home day and I may take advantage of it. Supposed to do lunch with friend from high school but believe I will pass. While pretty sure it is just a cold I do have a low grade temp and she doesn't need to take it home to her partner.
Going to stretch out and rest a bit.

Got it on OfferUp from an individual who was selling it. I found it on amazon for $160 so I got it for a steal. Was still in the ox, never been used.4 -
Welcome newbies! (((hugs))) to those who need them.
Never heard of OfferUp, Pip, but well done on the grab! Looks like a super deal on the grooming kit. Your pups should be the pride of the neighborhood. As if they weren't already!
Awe, Debbie, Destiny looks so happy there with her chinchilla... hmmmm. Okay... Whatever floats your boat. Our niece is into sugar gliders.
Karen, isn't it quite AMAZING how the world changes when we realize that autism is it's own little world and once WE accept THAT, we are the ones that can live there more easily? I worked with Asperger's students most of my first 10 years of teaching and OMG... some days. And then, it was like a light bulb one day. Truly I felt like it was almost a flick of a switch. Almost like when you said Griffin realized that he had to accept that he had no choice but to "get through school and do the work", I (sort of obviously) became an expert on autism as well, but really dove into "it's not them, it's us". We have to let them be them. WE have to allow them to just be, because they are NOT going to change just because we will it to happen. Once we accept that, life gets a whole lot easier. It sounds like you've even come around some with your older son in 24 hours. I'm really happy for you and wish you more peace.
How great that you have a Roger to help out with stuff like that, Lanette!
20-Compliment someone today. Will try.

Reading a book by Krista Tippet The current chapter is about making a meaningful connection to your body and how your body remembers trauma even if you do not remember it consciously. I would like to end in some cases it creates triggers for you when something similar happens if it is a negative experience. It makes sense because your body wants to protect you.
It is a good fit with the Body Block Therapy I am trying. I have done the practice for the past two days. My take on the practice thus far is it guides me to address the pains that come up in my body. When I combine the practice with Krista Tippet's book as memories come up I can put the memories in perspective. As per M's quote memories no longer have to take up space in my body if they no longer serve. NO MORE FREE RENT. Time to heal. Block Therapy is a type of yoga meditation I am guiding my mind to observe and not react to those monkey thoughts that come rushing into my space rather I aim towards creating a sacred space for myself that allows me to connect into my body and my spirit through breath. I like the thought that I am a spiritual body in a physical body.
In Krista's book she gave the example of the person who helped her the most during her depression was the one who just showed up and gave her a foot massage. The friend spoke very little and only to give her feedback as to how her body was responding to her touch. This gentle kindness helped her get back in touch with her body and in turn helped her see her way out of her darkness. Her friend helped her find her sacred space.
Working towards just showing up.

Hi Gals,
Karen – So glad you were able to have a talk with your son that fulfilled his needs even if not yours. Some times 50% is enough to make the jump and it looks like he felt heard enough to take the next step. And a hip hip hooray for you to be ready to accept what he is offering. I wonder how he would respond to a once a month gather for just the two of you, over meal or just a beverage, or even better a short walk. The walk and talk format works best for me when needing to have a more serious talk, as there are less listening ears around and you are not expected to have eye contact at all times, and while trying to put thoughts into words I am not always good at eye contact…
piriformis stretches- I had to look this up, didn’t know what a piriformis was, but am now curious about a couple of things – first I wonder if this is what I have that no one has been able to diagnose. On just my right leg where it meets my butt, it is painful sometimes a stronger pain some times not but always there. And so when I looked at the stretches listed on the web page they were all sitting or laying down…. Seems kinda a weird thing to do in the shower… What am I missing.
I’m feeling like a disconnected friend, I continue to read along, but have been too busy with everything to make notes and comment much. I do think of you all and wish you well, send hugs, and think of you regularly even if I do not comment much.

When I don't feel like cooking for me, I make grilled cheese sandwiches with dill pickles on the side.
My hip, where I had one skin cancer removed, is healing nicely. It's a long scar but that's OK.
My nose, where I had the other skin cancer removed, is not healing fast enough for me. Patience. The wound is closed but the scar is still quite visible to me and the tip of my nose is numb.
Glad your MIL was nice today.

the tip of my nose feels like plastic where they put the skin graft, also a bit discolored and raised around the edges. Not bad but I can see it. The one on my neck is still raised and gets a bit itchy and little pin pricks along it some times.
Like you, trying to be patient4 -

Glad they help. Just a simple stretch but boy does it make a difference. You can do them out of the shower which I do before Zumba class if I remember or during the day if my back is acting up but in the hot shower is so much better. Combination of the hot massaging water with the stretches works great.

Managed to print out my Advance Directions and texted my elder son to be one if my 'carers'. He was quite happy with that and said he'd do the same. I will mention it to my younger son tomorrow. I'm not putting DH in it as he would find the whole thing traumatising. His adoption has very much caused him abandonment issues. I don't think he can really accept that we are all going to die, and his previous partner's death was a trauma. I will just tell him I've done it. He could never make the decision to switch me off.
I printed out all my recent poems. So, in general, a good day. A little bit unsettling, but I'm fine now. I also finished Happy Valley on iplayer. Somewhat of an emotional roller coaster, but excellent. I wouldn't watch it until I knew the ending! I love spoilers! Hate surprises. Especially when I am invested in the characters.

Could you re-explain how to do them in the shower?? I am also having that type of issue and would like some relief! I know about the ones that you do while you are laying down or sitting up but the shower one sounds like it would work well. What do you actually do?3 -
Good afternoon ladies!
I ate 1052 calories, so I'm under my 1100 limit. I should do 300 calories of exercise, but my belly is unhappy so I might not do it today. I don't know whether to push myself or rest. One more hour of resting, then I will decide.

I had to look the stretches up after I saw your post.
The stretch I do in the shower is when you stand up, have your feet crossed and slowly bend and touch your toes, trade feet and do it again. Don't know the name of them, assumed that is the ones Karen was referring to.2 -

Pg. 51 done reading. Had appointment today. Will catch up later.
Word of the year: APPRECIATE; today I appreciate quiet trips to town.#2 Practice fairness today by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes: I did this with a camper who I received complaints about. I put myself in his shoes when speaking with him. He was a very lonely man who only had his dogs (one barking, one loose) and the people he meets at campgrounds. Made me more compassionate when talking to him about the dogs.#19. Show sincere appreciation when someone serves you food or drink. Did this today. DH made me pancakes and served me coffee this morning.
#3 Watch a movie that reminds you of kindness. I watched the Adam Project.
#4 Take a picture of 3 things that make you happy. Send them to a friend. Done!
#5 Be kind to yourself. Self-compassion is equally important. Will do today.
#6 Start a conversation with someone new. I do this every day with the campers!
#7 Consider a current struggle. Write down 2 thoughts that give you comfort. My dog Brownie’s heart trouble. Her spells are getting worse and there is nothing the vet can do. Comforting thoughts—She lived a good life with us. She brought us many days of comfort and enjoyment with her loving attitude.
#8. Consider and celebrate diversity today. I am a white girl living among darker Mexicans and native Americans. Campers come from around the world and love to hear the accents and learn about the different cultures i come into contact with. Do this every day!
#9. Identify a role model who embodies perseverance. Can you find two ways to emulate them? My 30 year old autistic nephew. He never gives up no matter what health challenge he faces. I can emulate him by not complaining about every little ache and pain, and by doing what needs to be done to get through any health issues that may come up.
#10. Check an item off your to-do list this weekend. Working on my taxes.
#11. Make twice as much for dinner and either invite guests or deliver the meal to a friend. We give food to people all the time. My DH cooks and we give food to different campers and workers here at the park almost every day!
#12. Make a list for the week ahead so you stay focused. Done
#13. Consider a recent disagreement. Did you extend forgiveness? After I bough myself a Sonic blast to ‘cool down’.
#14. Express creativity by making art or cooking a new meal. I write in a journal that has writing prompts I have to make up stories for. Yesterday I wrote a short story about a dog leash!
#15. If you are waiting in line today, let someone get in front of you. May not be today, but i did do it on Sunday!
#16. The next time someone does something you appreciate, be sure to let them know. Will do! Didn’t have the opportunity but will watch for a chance today!
17. Offer a helping hand to someone, such as holding a door for a stranger. I may have a chance today.
#18. Share about a recent book you read and what you learned. I just finished reading ‘Everything You Are’ by Kerry Anne King. It dealt with alcoholism, recovery, death, and grieving. I learned that no matter where you are in life, never give up and find a way to celebrate life.
#20. Complement someone today. Ideas include recognizing a great smile or earrings. Did this to a lady who looked angry and tired at Walmart today. Made her happy and smile.#21. When you recognize someone is struggling, offer words of support.
#22. Ask for help. That’s a simple way to express bravery.
#23. Encourage your teammates to utilize their unique strengths.
#24. Reflect on the steps you have taken to achieve your past goals.
#25. Express gratitude today by thanking someone.
#26. Think about the upcoming work week. How can you apply teamwork?
#27. Send or leave a handwritten thank you note to someone.
#28. Giving constructive feedback is one way to ignite honesty.

Feb 20 Compliment someone today-at line dance class.
@pmileader2 in AL, like Machka said, you posted just fine. Posting is the way we respond to each other. If you want to call a specific someone’s attention to your post, put an “at” sign before their id like this: @auntiebk . Most of us share our first names as we get to know the others. Welcome again!
Heather what a loving, listening gift. Being truly heard can be healing. Hard to risk hurting Johnny’s feeling by naming your sons. Understand he wouldn’t be able to, or be terribly hurt by, following your final directions. Tough choices.
Pip Score!
Beth precious picture time with your mom. Wish I’d done that with Mama when I had the chance.
Debbie glad your MIL was able to be nice to you for a pleasant change.
Kylia dusting vs barn cleaning? That would be my choice too
Karen Seeing Griffin when you look into your son’s eyes, yes this.
Luck, Viv! Both with today’s training and your walking meetup suggestion to your friends.
Machka thanks for the meme but most especially for the steps you take to evict
Lanette, hope Roger lets you ride/drive the tractor sometimes once he gets it running. Lately I’ve been wanting to rent a “mule” to see if I could drive it and use it to spread gravel.
Carla had to google “sugar gliders”
Margaret “…just showing up” isn’t that just the key?
Kim whooshing connectedness to you. You are an integral part of this group, we’d be diminished without you.
Allie Miles.
Whoops, time got away from me again. Joe’s back from his bike ride (Yay Joe!) so I’ve no more excuses to postpone going to line dance class02/19: Move: 2 sets PT with dumbbells, dogs to powerline, Jeopardy walking. active mins:256 steps:7837

Today is national pet day.. so my crazy dog is running around like a spaz as usual all is normal..
End of life stuff ,im all set I think.. will done, cremation paid for, advance directives with copy of will in my lock box and with lawyer,my daughter is my go to.. only thing I have to do is set her up as POA and have her sign paperwork POD paperwork ( payable on death ) so things can be taken care of.
I don't want them to have to worry about any of that stuff..my parents never planned anything, nor my grandparents either.. IMHO I think that just stinks

(((Machka)))— Good news that the skin cancer on your hip is healing nicely. I hope your nose will heal quickly and you will be happy with the final outcome. ❤️
Kim—Would a waterproof stool or bench in the shower help you while you are stretching? ⭐️
Rita— Cudos for helping a woman at Walmart by complimenting her earrings. Her happy smile shows her pleasure from your kindness. 😊

That's a stretch I used to do quite often in the middle of long distance bicycle rides. We'd stop for a break and I'd do that stretch.
You can do it straight down as you describe or off to one side or the other until you're stretching exactly what's tight.
