Katla- I am sorry you are having to sell the house. You know what you have to do but that doesn't make it any easier.
Lisa- that is perfect. Shared it on FB
Kim- what town did you go to? I was born and raised in Sonoma County(mom still lives there). Love it there. I am guessing you were over by Cazadero or did you go further north?
I almost talked myself out of walking today because of the wind. It was a good workout- 15-20mph around the wetlands. Only a short area was the wind behind me. The rest was in my face or from the side. Fitbit app says I did
12,750 steps/31floors/5.8miles /1457 cals.
One thing I don't understand is the cals.
Yesterday my numbers were:
11,274/5floors/5.06 miles /1899cals.
Both days all of my exercise was walking. Today, I am guessing because of the wind, it says I walked 31 floors (even though it was all flat ground)

Vicki- yes he has another 5 yrs of alimony to pay.. now if he wants to be a real *kitten* he will contact his lawyer and haul me back to court to lower the alimony..Im hoping he has the decency to remember all of the times i helped him with Homer, and years and years of taking care of his parents and him before he does anything foolish.
I didnt get Tracys text the therapist wanted them to make dinner together and me not to get him McDonald's. And I didn't get the text..I feel bad..because I got him McDonald's..
Before I left I had an hour to kill and wanted to dry my clothes but ,darn it all the dryers were full.. so now I have it in the dryer now.. Oh well..I guess I shouldn't be to grumpy lol2 -
Lisa— Thank you for your kind words. I miss my home and my dear friends in Oregon. We are near our daughter in Illinois & we have made new friends here.
Debbie— You are right about selling the house. I am sad to let it go. Stairs in that house are difficult and dangerous for DH. We will need a one level home. Our son and daughter are planning to move our Persian rugs and other loved furniture. They will be safely stored until we find the right home.5 -
Feb 21 when you recognize someone is struggling offer words of support. (then shush and listen to T during FaceTime today without trying to fix).
Welcome back @jeepbarbie Ontario Barb, from one of the other two “Barbara”s on this thread. When I don’t want to walk outside, I walk in the living room while watching Jeopardy
Barbie, finished “A Complaint Free World” this morning, much food for thought. Tried the “move a coin from pocket to pocket” approach and promptly lost the coin  Bit the bullet and ordered the bracelet(s). Thanks!
Well done, pip!
Ginny “…remind myself to do (stretches/pt exercises) to keep things from hurting.” Amen, sister, amen!
Allie good for switching Alfie to kibble. Soft food is h3!! on terrier teeth and gums. Whooshing hopeful energy to Tracy/Kyle/therapist and Carmine today.
Karen you are a gift to us all. I googled Sarah Raymond Gift Challenging and stumbled into this which resonated with me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anyAYfk81W8 It wasn’t til I watched nearly to the end that I learned the speaker is Sara’s husband. Will make time to squeeze them in to my daily routines. What you said about grudges. There are some situations where I wonder at people’s ability to let go if not forgive. Miraculous.
Lanette, hold out for a ride on that John Deere before the son drives it away. Your wind made it down to us today and is forecast to stick around until Thursday. It’s brought alternating sun/rain/sun/hail/sun/rain and even a dusting of snow so far… Joe took Shadow to the mailbox this morning but Tumble and I stayed home and play trained…
Joe just finished reading a biography of the hippy dippy weatherman
Margaret I had to scroll back up to see who’d posted, was sure it was Allie’s Miles.
Katla words fail ((hugs)) :brokenheart: Grateful your neighbor is buying your home, you’ll know it will be well cared for. ((hugs held extra long))
Lisa yours to jeepbarbie253 about self sabotage. Needed to hear them this morning. Thanks! Choked my tea on “…choose what to wear. Every. Day.”
Carol While I eat veggies, beans, fruits, whole grains I cannot come close to recommended fiber without taking Psyllium Husk capsules. I had one doctor recommend I eat an entire head of iceberg lettuce every day (smh). Far prefer the more nutritious romaine but can’t manage more than 100 grams
Carla ((hugs)) also to you and yours for having to say goodbye to the lake home.
Kim look forward to learning more about the Save the Redwoods park in Sonoma County. Wonder if its near Debbie?
Debbie you must be so proud of your son being able to buy a car financing only half. Well done.

Hello all. I found another way to burn a few more calories. I bought myself a manual hand reel lawn mower. I used it on our tiny front yard and it works nicely for that for the time being. It doesn't look great, but it'll do. We are planning to dig all of it up soon anyway and re-landscape. For the gap, it is great. It's kind of fun to push around too. Takes longer to rake up the grass clippings than cut the grass. I got tired of paying a ton of money for someone to come twice a month to mow what little grass there is. Typically, they cut it so low they're just mowing the dirt.
New haircut today. I really liked it when I walked out of there. I wonder how I'll feel tomorrow. It will require a bit more styling, which I typically stray from. I really don't like messing with my hair.
I woke up with a really strange headache today. I was super hot too. It felt like my BP was really high. I checked it and it was fine, but I really felt like I was going to pass out a couple of times. I had to cut my workout a bit short. I'm not sure what that was about. I still don't feel great, but I'm better.
Katla-So sorry you're having to sell your place. It's good that you realize it's for the best for your DH.
Debbie-It's good that you got your walk in, despite the wind. It's super windy here too and I am in no mood to go outside.
I haven't been in the mood to cook lately. So food has been "meh." I just throw things together and it's rather dull. But, I'm also eating less because I lack desire to make effort. I'm in quite a funk.
I have to say that I'm perplexed about why so much fiber is recommended. Is there a reason so many of you are being told to get more of it in? I seem to be missing something. I know there are reasons to increase it, but if there is no specific reason, why? Bathroom breaks are so disruptive to me and more fiber means more bathroom visits.
Machka-I love the bee photos! I am fascinated with bees. Insects generally, but bees and ants are really amazing.
Hugs to those in need!
Tina in CA where we are about to blow away in the wind.

Yes, very proud of my son. It took a lot longer than expected to do everything today. They had to come back to town(car is in Fairfield) because the bank didn't fill the cashier's check out correctly, needed two signatures and only had one. The app to figure out the payments was wrong- he will be paying $50 more a month and insurance is quite a bit more than he was paying. With car payment and insurance he will be paying $500 a month(and that is after putting $15,000 down on the car.)

Heather facial recognition is great! All you have to do is hold it up to his face to unlock. The same with cell phones with facial recognition. I have seen police officers on tv shows doing that to gain access to a locked phone. Easier to get into than trying to figure out a password!4

Hi Gals,
Tina – for me the extra fiber makes me feel full and less likely to snack. Also because I only do extra fiber from food not supplements it means that calories are used for nutritionally dense foods. And when I first started adding water/herbal tea and lot of veggies (fiber) it did create extra bathroom breaks but my system has adjusted.

This may work if they don’t have it configured to “require attention,” which they should. I know that is available on iPhone and if not yet on Android, it soon will be. We wrote our accounts and passwords down and have them “hidden” somewhere in the house. I told my friend where they are in case they are needed. I have his, but I won’t look unless needed.
Also, for those with Facebook, you can designate someone to take over your account should something happen to you. They have to be on FB too and there is an option in your settings to designate someone.
This allows us to keep our privacy, but still allows the other to take care of things if needed.

Well haven't you all been chatty! No chance I will respond to all!
Katla-sorry for the selling of your home. Given it is one of your neighbors, I am sure they will treat it with love. So good of your children to take care of the big work for you so you can focus on helping DH improve.
Lisa-glad you got to spend extra time with family before they ship out. This cold started on Saturday-in December I got one heck of a sinus infection.
Allie-hope therapy session helped.
Heather-my goodness Johnnie seems to have had a difficult start and that is tragic regarding his partner's passing. You two will work through this-you seem to know how to reach him.
Kylia-we have had a moderate winter-and I am happy to say I missed the Christmas deepfreeze!
Debbie- I was very excited when sons got their car loans on their own. Neither one of them needed a cosigner.
Worked from home and was fairly productive. Head is still full of junk but I did go out and walk my three miles after work. I think the cold helps clear head out some. Didn't feel up to it yesterday but I did walk a mile and a half in the house.
Going in to clean up kitchen. Going to watch "Curse of Oak Island." I love that show for some reason!
Take care all,

Katla, Life threw you a curve ball. I wish selling your home and boat could be on your terms. With the imminent sale of your home, leaving your friends and neighbors becomes a reality, compounding the grief you must be feeling. I’m so sorry your circumstances prevented you from disposing of your belongings and property yourselves. It’s super hard to give up control to your kids; I really think you are handling it with grace. Your children are doing their very best to help you.

It will be a while before our son & daughter are able to pack things in our Oregon home and bring them here. Meanwhile the home is safe. The couple who want to buy it are watching it until the title can be transferred. I hope all goes well. ⭐️ ❤️ ⭐️9

Good evening ladies!
I did thirty reps of my dumbbells Yay!
I also had a little more chocolate. I can usually afford a daily portion, but I forgot and ate it twice. It's amazing how my mind works when it wants chocolate! Oh well I still have a calorie deficit of 233 for today. Yay!

Hello lovely friends. I missed reading for a few days, so just spent the past 75 minutes catching up.
Katla: Ditto what others have said. Hard to leave your beautiful home. I will always remember having lunch with you and DH on the deck overlooking the water. And I am sure you carry many, many memories of good times spent there. May those thoughts help you smile through the tears. Bless you for the enormous sacrifice done in best interests of your DH. Glad you are near to your daughter, grands and making new friends in a good place for healing.
Lisa: I hope that every day, in every way, your health gets better and better so that a trip to visit family in Hawaii is feasible. Never say never....
Heather: Glad you are getting your directives done and your sons are on board. I remember having that delicate convo with my niece and it was a HUGE relief to get everything sorted, signed and delivered. I even made provisions for my cat and social media accounts.
Karen and Debbie: Thanks for the stretching tips. I do that stretch a few times a week, but had never thought of using hot shower to further loosen tight muscles.
Kylia: Going to see the Indy 500 in person is on my bucket list. You go and have a fantastic time.
Lanette: That is so sweet of your neighbor to help you select a chicken coop. Back a few weeks ago you were going to try to find some barefoot shoes. Any luck? I'm still enjoying mine.
My workload at the basketball games is light right now because the league is on a break, and then my boys are playing out of town. Today I took a friend to our closest mineral hot springs and vapor caves. We had a very relaxing time, followed by a delicious pizza on the best cauliflower crust I've ever found. When I got home, my housemate declared he had 50 little neck clams boiling on the stove. Was I interested? Are you kidding??? Such a sweet surprise. He recently transferred from bakery to seafood department of Whole Foods, so I had him give me the rundown of every type of seafood they carry in his store. I foresee more evenings where "I buy, he cooks".
My corner of Colorado is supposed to get a couple inches of snow after midnight. After reading about how so many of you have knocked out your taxes, I'm inspired to get my stuff in Turbo Tax beginning manana.
Stay well. We can do this.

I’m going to have to try this stretching exercise. I don’t shower though, I take baths in the evenings. I’m sure I can make it in some kind of routine.
Katla - I’m very sorry that you are having to sell your home.
Heather - you are very wise to have that living will taken care of. Here we call it a care plan or personal directive. My FIL did not have one and because he didn’t there were some things done that he probably wouldn’t have wanted. It also left my MIL having to make a tough decision. I truly believe it was for the best as does my DH, however, my SIL is angry about it. It would have been easier if he had made that decision on his own.
I do hope that Johnny listens to you soon. He is leaving both of you in a precarious position.
Annie - my Aunt started putting “soiled” laundry back in the dresser. My cousin had to search daily to make sure she hadn’t. She also, before she moved in with my cousin, stored oranges in a safe in her bedroom, put chicken nuggets in the cupboard. These were the things that were found when the apartment was being cleaned out. I feel for you, memory loss is such a miserable disease
Lanette - my dishwasher died in early 2020. I did dishes by hand for 4 days and told hubby I was buying a new one. I don’t mind the work of it. It caused me so much pain in my hips and back. I could barely move.
There was a small cafe in the building I used to work in that made breakfast wraps. They were delicious and I would usually have one for breakfast at my 10am coffee break. I used to make them here too, but haven’t in a long time. I’ll have to remember them again.
Katla - I understand your grief. I also understand your adult children. It is not easy on children trying to help parents either. I’ve been the child in my grandparents and parents situations and it is terrible. I fear we are faxing it again now with my dear sweet MIL. It makes me sad because I know there will be difficult conversations and decisions and it’s hard on everyone involved. I’m sure your children have only the best interest of you and your husband at heart. Hugs it is a difficult time for you .
Carla and Kim - walking and driving talks are my favourite kind. DH and I used to do it when we needed to and I don’t think I would have survived the girls without it. I used to love being the parent that drove a bunch around, the things I would learn when they forgot Mom was driving!
I still am a part of almost all of Kaitlyn’s friends lives.
Her best friend even joined us in NB and brought this cutie with her.
(The baby, not my hubby 😂)
When I was just home in NB was the first time I have been “home” since my parents house has been torn down. I hadn’t got used to Grammie’s being gone and I still miss the 7 maple trees that lined the driveway. They were cut around 2000. I think the saying is true “you can never go home again”.
Lisa - I agree about making something beloved a task wears. I used to take my Grands at least once a month for a night. As they’ve gotten older and argue more (as siblings do) I fine it easier to have one at a time which then either takes up a whole weekend or two weekends a month. I don’t take them as often now and I miss it, but I’m tired.
I saw the Grands and our eldest daughter for about 1/2 an hour this evening. They came to get the pink shirts I made for them to wear to school tomorrow. I have a pink shirt ready for myself. I didn’t put any writing on mine though.

That's a lot of calories for a flat walk!
I figure I burn about 200 calories per hour when I walk. Maybe 300 if I choose a really hilly route.
I walk between 5 and 6 km/h or 3-4 mph.
Or is that your whole day's calories?

The typical American diet is not known for its fibre content.
Nor are the keto or similar diets.
Fibre keeps the intestines happy and helps prevent bowel cancer.

LisaInArkansas wrote: »Morning again, y'all,
I'm starting on my second cup of tea, so I am a little more verbal. Also near complete on the morning chores. Three loads of laundry to play catchup after three days of visitors is a small price to pay.
Missing my daughter and the grands already, and by mid-March, they should all be in Hawaii or about to be. Trying not to think about how long it may be before I see them again. I'm not usually maudlin, but I've been wearing the cardigan I lent her over the weekend because it smells like her hair shampoo. It's comforting.
Kels took me to my gastro appointment yesterday. Nothing changed, just told to keep doing what I'm doing until the colonoscopy in July unless things get worse. Not sure what I was hoping for... but that wasn't it. Ah well.
Talked to my best friend this morning, and we've decided that when we have something to share, we'll call, to yank us out of the habit of talking to each other daily. We developed that during the pandemic lockdowns, and it was a lifeline for us both, I think, as my own illness worsened during that time as well. We had a lot of fears and apprehensions to talk through. Now that everything has settled down a bit, we can go back to our old habit of once or twice a week when we had something we wanted to share. Making even the most beloved action into a task can be wearing.
Confidentially, I was about a microsecond from saying, "I really don't care what you're wearing," as our conversations had devolved to getting her clothing decisions told to me blow-by-blow every morning. I don't talk about mine, because my decisions are the same every day. A t-shirt, hopefully one without a stain, and soft leggings/sweatpants, all of which are black. I did throw a large men's shirt over that concoction yesterday to go to the doctors. This woman has been my friend since 1983, no joke. I never knew that it takes her 20 to 30 minutes to choose what to wear. Every. Day.
Katla, dear heart - I spent nearly 30 years moving from one place to another due to the military life, and another decade of it during my current marriage. Throughout those military years, it was never the place that I missed... it was the people. I asked my daughter this weekend if she thinks of this place as home, and she sounded surprised and said, "Of course!" She has never lived here, but her father and I are her home. You are with the family that you longed for while you lived in Oregon, and you can build a community where you are with your family and those who live around you. Not to say you can't grieve, but turning to the future might help you get through this. What Okie said was spot on, too. Thinking of you, dear.
Got to go--lots of laundry to fold!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR
One of my small joys in life is deciding what to wear to work the night before every work day.
If I know how an outfit is going to fit and look, choosing it might take about 5 minutes. If I am not sure, it could take 20 minutes while I try things on.
😀

Fiber keeps our microbiome happy, all those microbes munching away! A healthy microbiome is the key to everything; our mental state, our immune system, fighting cancer, heart health, weight control. It is our 2nd brain.
If you eat lots of veggies, fruit and whole grains, (not smoothies, eat the whole fruit), real coffee, beans, lentils, you should be fine.
Tim Spector and many others have written reams on what they are discovering about the microbiome.
I always tell mine they should be grateful I feed them so well. And I apologise when I drop some sugar down there. Oooops! It doesn't happen often.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Terri, Yay! I hope the stretches help you. I am so grateful to Debbie for reminding me. Now if I can start belly dancing again, I should be loose as a goose!
Tina, I hope your weird headache isn’t Covid. One of the few downsides to living in this senior community is the increased exposure - in the dining venues, at fitness classes, at activities of all kinds. There are a lot of people in independent living isolating in their apartments or cottages right now. The problem is, the day before the symptoms start, while still feeling perfectly fine, the infected person is highly contagious.
