Oh and I noticed my steps, so far 275988 -
Stretch-I was given that stretch to do (off to the side a bit) for my IT band. I like it because I can do it anywhere. Of course, it is easy to skip if something isn't hurting-I have to remind myself to do them to keep things from hurting. For performis specifically I lay on mat, use strap under thigh, put one ankle on top of knee and pull up under thigh and hold for around 30 secs.
Cold is still fairly miserable. Have laid around today-dozed off a few times. Just went to Dollar General and got some of my outshine fruit bars, no sugar added and some sugar free sprite and more muscinex. Running low grade temp off and on. Working on some paperwork stuff in between resting time (another cleanup project from work).
Do not have energy to get my 3 miles in today-will try to walk around house to get 20 active minutes. If I don't make it, oh well.
Have a good rest of the day all,

Debbie thanks for explaining how to do the stretches. I definitely need some relief.2

no class tonight because of the holiday but a friend from zumba is going to meet me at the park and we will walk for the hour. Only at the park because it is well lit. We both prefer the wetlands but no lights at all out there. We have used our flashlights on our phones a few times when it got dark faster than we expected and needed some light to get back to the cars. Looking forward to when we can be out there at 8 PM again.
Pork tenderloin and butternut squash for dinner tonight. Will have salad with mine I think.

Hello friends!
I did thirty minutes of yoga so I have a calorie deficit of 146, so about half my target, not bad for feeling ill. My belly has settled so if I didn't have my book group I could do my aerobic walking, but it's not going to happen.
I had to do that stretch too. I think it was for bursitis.

I’m back to mfp this month but first found it in 2014. It’s been a roller coaster and I’m working on different changes this time around. I got up to 302 and I’m 5’8 so a long ways to go. Im also 56 and working full time so Have to work around life
My goals that I write in my food notes daily are
Track food
Drink water
Take vitamins
No fast food
Eat at least 4 fruits and veggies
Walk 20 min 3x per week
The walking is my biggest challenge right now. I live on a country road in Ontario Canada so it’s a messy time of year here. Have to get rid of that excuse and I’m working on it
Hubby also is on board with me as he is also needing to lose a significant amount of weight. We tend to sabotage each other and need to work on this. We have different vices in regards to eating and I’m working to leave his for him and just deal with myself ( this is actually hard for me haha)
Anyhow enjoying reading thru posts and wanted to mention I’m also a Barb with a few who call me Barbie lol5 -
Welcome Barb from Canada!0

Did a Yoga for Inflexible People DVD yesterday. Found that you need a ball so I have to take that one back to NC and bring another one down here. Then went to the race. After the race we usually get dinner. The place we used to go to closed so we’d go to IHOP. Last year they had 2 waitresses, this year they only had 1 and 1 cook. Why they do that is beyond me. It’s not like it’s a surprise when the race will be held and people would want to come for dinner. There were quite a few people waiting to just get their names on the list. So we went to the car and sat while traffic started to go
Did Gilad Ultimate Body Sculpt DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Total Cardio Burn DVD
Went to Publix (they sell silken tofu!) and then WalMart then bought gas. Just doing laundry right now and then we’ll go to buy a dishwasher. First we’ll make a donation to the SPCA thrift shop
Debbie – we even took out the lower rack just in case there was something we missed. Nope. We looked for signs on the heating coil of something having melted. Nope. Well, the condos were built in the 70’s and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this is the original dishwasher. I know MIL never replaced it and we’ve owned the condo for about 15 years. So it’s probably time. On the bright side – when I remodel the kitchen, the cost of a new dishwasher won’t have to come out of my “landscape” fund!
Paula – welcome. Many of us (me included) aren’t tech savvy so don’t hesitate. Some (like M) are and are more than happy to help you. Like you, I do well all day, then come evening, I can easily munch my way over calories.
Bought a new dishwasher then went in the pool. Tonight I took a walk around the parking lot and stopped in at the clubhouse to sign us up for the pot luck. They were playing horseracing so I stopped to see what it was all about. They asked me to play even tho I didn’t bring any money. So I did. They did give me some of the change “for the next time you come”. I should probably go in two weeks. Not that I’m a fan of it.
I agree with so much on here. By the time I get a chance to say things, someone else has. Oh well….the sentiments are here
Tracey – the post office knows that we don’t get mail here, so I don’t know what they would do. Maybe keep it in their dead letter place???? I am glad, too, that I’m not raising kids today.
Allie – HUGS
kylia – there was this blind guy at the Daytona. I’m sure he felt the roar of the engine, felt the crowd. I do hope your hubby goes to the race with you. Yea for your scan! Good luck with the echo
Barb – welcome! How great your hubby is with you
Sorry for anyone I missed. Had to do some skimming.

Seeing the Gift in Challenging Times.
I go to a Monday morning meditation group.
Yesterday we listened to Sarah Raymond on "seeing the gift in challenging times".
It was so timely and helpful for me.
The gift I see with my son is that I have an opportunity to learn something about myself.
My son has been a lifelong series of gifts to me since he was born in 1977.
The current gifts he is giving me are more difficult for me to recognize as gifts because fully accepting them means letting go of the resentments I have nurtured for years; letting go of the judgments, the expectations, the “he should haves”.
In his presence, I feel defensive, wary, and apprehensive.
Meditating is helping me to see the gift in this challenge and begin to reshape my thoughts, learn something about myself, and experience positive emotions in my son’s presence. Experience healing.
I’m not there yet, but I’m on the way.
I have the power to see the gifts in my life.
My skills are a bit rusty, but that will change.
Every day is a gift.
You are gifts.
There are gifts everywhere if I choose to see them.

Glad they help. Just a simple stretch but boy does it make a difference. You can do them out of the shower which I do before Zumba class if I remember or during the day if my back is acting up but in the hot shower is so much better. Combination of the hot massaging water with the stretches works great.
Debbie
Could you re-explain how to do them in the shower?? I am also having that type of issue and would like some relief! I know about the ones that you do while you are laying down or sitting up but the shower one sounds like it would work well. What do you actually do?
The stretch I do in the shower is when you stand up, have your feet crossed and slowly bend and touch your toes, trade feet and do it again. Don't know the name of them, assumed that is the ones Karen was referring to.
Yes, these are the stretches I am referring to.
Be careful not to lose your balance!!!!
My shower has very good water pressure/temperature and is set on pulsating mode. I direct the water to hit my sacrum and mid-buttock and just surrender to the stretch while the hot water is hitting my piriformis area. I keep the front leg slightly relaxed and the rear leg straight. Then I switch my feet around and stretch the other side.
It’s a game changer.
Note: Water restrictors in shower heads will limit the force of the spray. It’s illegal to remove them in some states.

Heather,
I think it was a stroke of either luck or genius to have the discussion on end-of-life planning with someone else while your husband was present, difficult as it was for him. He clearly is spending a lot of his precious energy suppressing the topic.
Johnny is such a good man. He loves you so much, and he knows this is important. It sounds as if he nearly has a phobia about it, triggering anxiety and fight-or-flight. My heart goes out to him. And to you. It would be instructive if he was able to articulate the main trigger for this response. Is it the thought of you leaving him behind? I suspect it may be. I can’t blame the man for that. You are the love of his life. Maybe the Sarah Raymond meditations could help either or both of you? I think you are doing all you can to be there for him.

Terri, I am ecstatic about the results of the stretching exercise! Honestly, doing the piriformis stretches, plus range of motion neck exercises & shrugs/shoulder blade squeezes under the pulsating hot water spray makes for a very supple day. I know it is using precious water resources to stay in the shower that extra few minutes. I feel guilty about that, but it does me SO much good that I rationalize it by being extra cognizant of saving the planet the rest of the time. We are consistent recyclers and re-users.
Kim, We feel your presence here whether you post or not. Much love.

Karen - I really appreciate your input. And what a lovely thing to come out of the meditation group.
Yes, he was left in the nursing home, with his twin sister removed from him, for months, if not a year, before he was adopted by a young, totally inadequate family, with a severely bipolar mother. He fortunately had two later siblings born naturally. He knows that the time in that home alone must have had a huge effect on his psyche. He still is easily triggered by criticism, neglect, perceived rejection, etc. He tries his best to 'get over it', but our conscious mind can only do so much. The death phobia is a strange consequence of all this, and the long, painful, death of his partner through home hospice, only made it worse. It is my very private opinion that she should never have subjected him to that and gone into a real hospice. It almost destroyed him. And then his father died 4 days after her. He can hardly remember any of that time and his partner's mother moved in with him to look after him.
I am filling in my form for Advance Decision and will talk to my younger son today. My elder has already agreed. I will talk to DH on the way to pick up Bea and tell him that I want to spare him having to agree to the final medical decision. Which is actually taken by doctors. I will get one of my friends to witness it on Thursday.
How I'm going to get him to do a POA is another story!
My difficult friend's mother, 95, has had another fall in the nursing home and is receiving extra care. She says she is OK, but we are all holding our breath that our meeting goes ahead as planned. If not I'm sure the other two can still stay in the apartment, or B can come down to me. I have bought my ticket already, but insured it against cancellation. It wasn't expensive anyway as I got a Super Off Peak. It means I will have to leave the lunch at 3, but I might have had enough of my difficult friend by then anyway!!! Good excuse. I'm really only going to see B as I see G anyway.
Oouuff! Now must wash my hair.

Good morning ladies!
Lost power for an hour last night, many in my county did and still have outages. I didn't think it was that windy, but apparently a substation had problems. Very glad it's back on so I could get my coffee and check in here. Barbie and Rebecca and Sue probably got a more powerful wind than me.
Ginny - hope you are feeling better today. Some of this crud seems to hang on for a long time.
Lisa - I was wondering if the family had moved to Hawaii yet. Good to hear of their last minute visit. Hope the doc visit went well for you.
Heather - I'm sure it's a relief to get your POA out of the way. Peace of mind for you and your loved ones with this in place. I need to redo my will but still undecided on a few things. In the meantime, getting a beneficiary listed on my accounts will take care of. It bypasses the estate so any $$ I have left when I'm dead will automatically go to who I choose without the government grabbing some and having a say-so from what I understand. The tax man got grabby enough this year.
Piriformis stretch - I appreciate the reminder from you gals about this. I used to do it or something similar faithfully but like Ginny says, unless we're hurting, we tend to forget about it.
Roger and chicken coops - we spent over an hour looking at the "floor models". He was great, pointing out the benefits and possible problems with several of them and offering solutions. We measured, walked in them, the whole nine yards. My DH would have NEVER been that patient! Now I need to get someone in to "prep" the site when the weather gets warmer. Was going to do this anyhow, chickens or not. If I get chickens, I'm getting enough to also supply eggs for Roger and his wife.
I'm realizing that before my DH became so fragile, he was the helpful "Roger" to many folks in the neighborhood. At the time, I thought "that's nice" but now I realize how much that was appreciated by the recipients. In a sense, he paid it forward and I'm getting the benefits. Very, very grateful. Like Roger, he loved being busy using his carpentry and mechanical skills.
Barbara - Roger's son is getting the John Deere mower. By the way, I didn't realize Joe was doing some biking. Good for him! And love hearing about your walks to the mailbox and back. Hope you didn't blow away.
Michele - how long are you staying in Florida?
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get a new dishwasher, possibly new garbage disposal. I have a leak under the sink. Started to smell something musty when I'd open the cabinet doors, and last night finally yanked everything out. Luckily, I keep things stored in large plastic tubs. Sure enough, one had water in it and a few things will go into the garbage can. No big loss = decluttering, lol.
I can't figure out where the leak is. I ran the garbage disposal, and the sprayer, nothing. I replaced the tub with an empty one and will keep an eye on it. Grateful I caught the drip and it didn't get the bottom of the cupboard or the floor wet. Whew.
Haven't used the dishwasher for several years, it sprung a leak and I preferred to do dishes in the sink anyhow=warm water was great for the arthritis in my hands. Since I got the new water heater, it takes forever to get hot water to the kitchen sink, and in cold weather I just carry the dishpan to the laundry sink. That's my weight lifting routine, lol. Dishwashers have the capability to pre-heat the water so that's what I'll need.
Back into town this morning for the big grocery shop before the big freeze starting tomorrow. Nighttime temps into the teens on Thursday night and remaining in the 30's with snow for the week after if the Hippy Dippy Weatherman is right.
OK ladies, wrapping it up (finally).
Make it a super day!

Grudges
There is a huge difference between holding a grudge and feeling a resentful. A grudge implies vindictiveness, a belief that one will feel better when one shows the other person how angry one is, and a desire to pay the offender back.
A person may feel resentment or hurt but not hold a grudge. Alternative responses are: forgiving the other person, having a respectful discussion, or letting go of the resentment and/or hurt without addressing it with the other person.
Or...the hurt person might hold a grudge. But not necessarily.

Lanette - it isn't the POA I'm doing right now it's the Advance Directions to Refuse Treatment. Sort of living will if I'm not able to make my own decisions and not expected to recover. I have no interest in lingering on. They just will not give me CPR etc. POA is another matter. I really need one for DH as he keeps his money very private. I know what savings accounts he has, but no means of accessing them if he needs care and is incapacitated. I don't know his passwords and his computer has facial recognition. 😳 I have minimal income and not huge savings.
I will try again. And again.
My friend B is on the train from Glasgow and is drinking wine.
I have booked my DSIL's birthday lunch in London for July 14th. Hooray!

Our son and daughter are in the process of emptying our home in Oregon. A neighbor there is purchasing our home. I know that DH needs a one story home, but losing my loved home is heartbreaking. 💔19

Heather - I knew what you meant. In Washington State, we have a "Medical Power of Attorney" which seems to be the same thing as your Advance Directions. It stipulates if I'm unable to make my own decisions about medical treatment, that a doctor and my Medical POA designee can make whatever decisions are appropriate according to my wishes. It came in handy when DH was in the hospital. It was obvious he wasn't going to get better, so the doc and I decided to put him on "Comfort Care" which basically kept him comfortable with morphine as his body shut down. It was what he wanted.

I’m on vacation this week and looking forward to some relaxing time at home and some meal planning.
Sounds like everyone has so much going on! I think I’m going to try the shower stretch you all seem to be talking about. I do a couple stretches each morning that have been a game changer for my lower back. I sit on the ottoman and lift one leg up to cross my other and sit for 90 seconds then do the other. This was recommended by my chiropractor when I had a lower back issue and I do daily to keep the issue at bay. Hoping that losing lbs will help as well !
Have a good day everyone !
