I wish that were so easy. He is on a ship, not answering emails, no active phone number, nor is he on any social platform etc. His brothers can't contact him either. They don't really write letters anymore like I do sometimes. My last letter to him was in his Christmas box. I did send him a box in November as well with a long 9 page letter. All I can do is keep the door of communication open on my end.💖👍🏻

I have PTSD from growing up in a dysfunctional family. Many others have had other circumstances that have resulted in them having it as well. However, before I wax eloquently on that theme, I want you to encourage your daughter to participate in all the counseling the VA has to offer with or without her husband. I can’t tell you how much it helped me individually as well as us as a couple. If there are local veterans groups she may want to get involved with them as well. Sometimes it just helps to be able to tell someone “My husband acted like a nut last night.” PS, I think its great you know how to use a French Press!
Night Y'all!
Tere in Chester VA
Tere - All of us need to hear that truth from others in our lives, I think--we are all strong women, and the sharing and advice we give and get here supports that completely. I'm so glad you're back! I don't think I've ever looked at it as PTSD, but there is certainly an aspect of that which had me coping with my father's abuse by eating. A lot. Like a lot a lot. Part of my own self-administered therapy was simply talking about it, as well. I never hid that I was abused, or pushed it away and didn't deal with it. It always makes me laugh, though, that when I was in an Air Force technical school in Denver, I saw a psychiatrist for a bit, and she left me with one observation on my father's actions: "Normal people do not settle arguments with guns." Took me a lot of years to realize that bit of advice was from one person in the Air Force to another. By definition, the US Air Force has the biggest guns in the world, and that's how our country settles arguments. Irony to the nth degree, that.
Just info on my soldiers:My daughter and her husband are both active duty Army, she's a staff sergeant and her husband is, I think, a sergeant first class. When he transfers to Hawaii, he's moving into his new duty in the Inspector General's office. My daughter's job when she gets there is up in the air still, but she's been in hospital platoons all over the world, mostly in an administrative role. She also got her CNA last year, so has a wide range of possible positions she can fill. Just as an aside, I do not think the active duty Army addresses PTSD nearly as well as the VA does. They both have about five or six years left in an active capacity before retirement.
Rebecca, darlin', I'm so sorry that the stresses are simply escalating as your youngest son's ship comes closer to port. It may well be too late, don't know how close it is - but is it possible for you and your husband to meet his ship? I wish I had good advice for you, but all I have is many, many hugs. You are loved, my dear.
Apparently there was a tornado warning about midnight last night - I didn't hear my phone going off with the alert, but the wind noise woke me up. I just pushed Corey out of bed to close the window, as rain was coming in. We both went right back to sleep. My daughter called me at 7 a.m. to find out if we had any damage, and the alert showed on my phone when I picked it up. That's the first I knew of it... Did some searching, and there were a few homes damaged in Oklahoma, but nothing near us that I could find.
I need to de-clutter my office/craft room today. There will be people in the house tomorrow to remove the old shower and put the tub and shower combo in. I am always uncomfortable when anyone is in my house other than my family, but hopefully, it will be reasonably quick. Not looking forward to that at all, but looking forward to Corey being able to take a bath when he chooses. I'm not a bath person - I do take them occasionally, but I end up having to shower afterward in order to feel clean. Baths kinda seem like people soup to me... Urk.
Hope everyone has a good week!
Love y'all,
Later,
Lisa in AR
No its not possible financially. Its a long drive down from Whidbey to San Diego Ca. Plus with snow and stuff its not doable in our little car. Then there's hotel if we went. If we flew down, there's rental car plus hotel. Just not doable.

Katla ~ Hand your phone to one of the young nurses at the facility and they will know how to turn it off. At our age, it's hard to know how to work things. I have to ask for help all the time.

I have had this bad knee for so long it might be time to get more serious about working on it. Would the bike work okay on carpet with cement underneath? It might settle into a dent in the carpet and stabilize that way.

I put a mat under mine so it doesn't slip around on my wood floors, but mine seems sturdy enough and I'm not pedaling too fast. It's fairly small (my 6'5" mister cannot use it). Fits me just fine. I suspect it'll work on carpet. It folds up and you can stash it in a corner if needed.

Thank you Tina. I measured and it will fit in the basement, although it would be better if I cleaned out some things down there. I have it in my cart on Amazon. I'm very close to buying it!

This is not a Peloton-type bike. It's very basic just to keep the knee joints healthy, so adjust your expectations accordingly.0 -

I immediately hand mine to my son if I have a problem. I am trying a little more on my own before handing it over to him but still would rather just have him do it.2 -
The handyman is still working on bathroom, and hole in ceiling kitchen. He has put the caulking stuff on and let it dry over the weekend. Today its sanding day. I will be glad when this is all over and we have a functioning bathroom. The plumber still has to come and finish up the shower.

Feb 27 Send or leave a handwritten thank you note to someone. Maybe to PP?
Feb 26 Think about the upcoming work week. How can you apply teamwork? So grateful to be retired! Monday will ask R and S to help with the binders/reorganization/roster.
Feb 25 Express gratitude today by thanking someone. Joe, frequently, every day.
Welcome @lih2 you joined by posting. Bookmark this thread to come back easily and watch for Barbiecat’s link to the new month late Tuesday night.
Welcome @Bellatrix8989 ! Love your goals. Some form of movement (walking, dancing, stretching) always helps to lift my mood from the mirror/scale/coworkers/weather/self flagellating blues. It gets way easier after the first step.
Barbie after reading A Complaint Free World it decided to try by putting a coin in my pocket. Chose a Susan B Anthony dollar. Promptly lost it after a few transfers. Oops. Ordered the bracelet and started over 7:54 yesterday with a rubber band. Lost count how many times I've switched but haven't broken the band... yet
Annie I’m a big fan of PT for knees, have you had any? A good PT could recommend daily exercises and stretches to strengthen it. You are worth the investment and the exercises s/he gives you, can be done for free for the rest of your life, with or without a bike.
Belinda the corgi birthday wishes. Would love to see pics of the real ones and the kitten. Exploding vacuum bag Yikes! Our double coated dogs (Tumble the Skye, and Shadow the GSD/Flatcoat/??) keep our Roomba busy. How long did yours live? We bought the extended warranty…
Karen that Easter Island stars pic. Wow. Just WOW!
Heather “An Elusive Woman” is on order at our library. Put a hold on it so when it comes in I’ll get it. Thanks!
Teri your poetic response to mirror ball sunshine scattering
Ginny, your stinky dog story made me smile and remember Dixie our Wheaten. Clean, warm water was anathema to her, you’d’ve thought it burned. But cold, mucky, algae choked ponds were her heaven. Also yours about the effort and work to keep up. Truth.
Kylia expectations and frustrations with in-laws-as-coworkers. ((hugs)) It would make me crazy. Do you feel able to talk about DH’s eye injury?
Machka so delighted to hear of your relaxing Sunday. If I could I'd give you a month of such.
Lanette would you share the link to the portable generator and solar panel backup?
Rita thanks for the Mindful March. Will do!
Beth :brokenheart:(hugs)
Rebecca (hugs)
Margaret yours to Beth and right back atcha ((hugs))
Lisa that Air Force psychiatrist had a killing wit, though it wasn’t funny in the context. Oh duh, it was your wit that saw the irony.
Karen brilliant question to Katla
Machka I don’t see the Logout button on my phone beneath the Sync. But if I tap Community then my profile, Sign Out is the bottom option.
Pip, thanks ! I didn’t know you could Sign Out from mfp’s settings, One step saved!
@katla49 to do list: Hand this to your daughter or a nurse. Perhaps they can print it somehow? So hard to follow lists on your phone when you have to use your phone to do the “to do”s
1 logout from mfp
–if you’re in the community pages tap the circle with your picture (at top right corner), then tap Sign out.
OR
-If you’re on a page that looks like pip’s, tap settings, then tap sign out at the bottom.

If not, tap “forgot password” and follow mfp instructions for resetting it.
5. I prefer not to let apps “remember password”. I think it is unsafe and leads to trouble so I uncheck the "remember password" option whenever I see it. BUT it means I have to remember the password(s) myself and type them in every time I login ;}
Greatest good luck to you. We love you no matter where you are or what mfp calls you!

Word of the year: APPRECIATE; today I appreciate my new mattress toppers.#2 Practice fairness today by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes: I did this with a camper who I received complaints about. I put myself in his shoes when speaking with him. He was a very lonely man who only had his dogs (one barking, one loose) and the people he meets at campgrounds. Made me more comp#26. Think about the upcoming work week. How can you apply teamwork? I can apply teamwork by helping out the paid employees and the other volunteers. I also need to put together the agenda for Tuesday night’s Friends Group meeting.
#3 Watch a movie that reminds you of kindness. I watched the Adam Project.
#4 Take a picture of 3 things that make you happy. Send them to a friend. Done!
#5 Be kind to yourself. Self-compassion is equally important. Will do today.
#6 Start a conversation with someone new. I do this every day with the campers!
#7 Consider a current struggle. Write down 2 thoughts that give you comfort. My dog Brownie’s heart trouble. Her spells are getting worse and there is nothing the vet can do. Comforting thoughts—She lived a good life with us. She brought us many days of comfort and enjoyment with her loving attitude.
#8. Consider and celebrate diversity today. I am a white girl living among darker Mexicans and native Americans. Campers come from around the world and love to hear the accents and learn about the different cultures i come into contact with. Do this every day!
#9. Identify a role model who embodies perseverance. Can you find two ways to emulate them? My 30 year old autistic nephew. He never gives up no matter what health challenge he faces. I can emulate him by not complaining about every little ache and pain, and by doing what needs to be done to get through any health issues that may come up.
#10. Check an item off your to-do list this weekend. Working on my taxes.
#11. Make twice as much for dinner and either invite guests or deliver the meal to a friend. We give food to people all the time. My DH cooks and we give food to different campers and workers here at the park almost every day!
#12. Make a list for the week ahead so you stay focused. Done
#13. Consider a recent disagreement. Did you extend forgiveness? After I bough myself a Sonic blast to ‘cool down’.
#14. Express creativity by making art or cooking a new meal. I write in a journal that has writing prompts I have to make up stories for. Yesterday I wrote a short story about a dog leash!
#15. If you are waiting in line today, let someone get in front of you. May not be today, but i did do it on Sunday!
#16. The next time someone does something you appreciate, be sure to let them know. Will do! Didn’t have the opportunity but will watch for a chance today!
17. Offer a helping hand to someone, such as holding a door for a stranger. I may have a chance today.
#18. Share about a recent book you read and what you learned. I just finished reading ‘Everything You Are’ by Kerry Anne King. It dealt with alcoholism, recovery, death, and grieving. I learned that no matter where you are in life, never give up and find a way to celebrate life.
#19. Show sincere appreciation when someone serves you food or drink. Did this today. DH made me pancakes and served me coffee this morning.
#20. Complement someone today. Ideas include recognizing a great smile or earrings. Did this to a lady who looked angry and tired at Walmart today. Made her happy and smile.
#21. When you recognize someone is struggling, offer words of support. I did that yesterday!
#22. Ask for help. That’s a simple way to express bravery. Sometime today.
#23. Encourage your teammates to utilize their unique strengths. Do this with my co-hosts every day. I thank them and tell them they have done a good job, and really are working too hard.
#24. Reflect on the steps you have taken to achieve your past goals. I looked at past lists to see if I had achieved my goals.
#25. Express gratitude today by thanking someone. Thanked my DH for making coffee.
#27. Send or leave a handwritten thank you note to someone. To be completed.
#28. Giving constructive feedback is one way to ignite honesty.

Annie, one more thought. A good PT will observe, evaluate and build a routine designed specifically for your knees not a generic good for all. Every body is different. Good luck!4
-
Annie - Barbara is right. A good PT will provide you with a personalized exercise program that is just like a prescription. They will also provide you with ways to progress that program.
Rebecca - so sorry youngest son is still not communicating. I know this is really hard for you but hang in there. Maybe he will get some leave and just turn up on your doorstep. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Not much going on here today, waiting to hear on my truck. Need to make a run to Walmart and work on some things around the house.

Sorry, I have not posted in a bit. I hope you all are well and I will read through the posts over the next few days.
My husband passed this morning at an inpatient hospice. A lovely facility that gave us excellent care. My son and daughter in law were with me. The passing was peaceful and we are thankful for this. I look forward to reading your posts and hearing about your lives as I accept the changes in my life.
Best,

Debbie--Sure hope you are feeling better.
Belinda--My DH had lots of issues with the Covid shots and we went to every kind of doctor and the one that was the most help was Rheumatoglist . He is getting better, but it is slow and every so often it feels like he is going backwards. One day at at time. I always thought short hair dogs would not shed and then we got Jake a pug. Even cleaning the floors everyday there seem to be hair every where. Now that he is gone I sure do miss the hair, and him.
Katla--HUGS!! I agree we know who you are and it doesn't matter what MFP says your name it.
Rebecca--Sending hugs and prayers that DYS contacts you when he is stateside.
The weekend just flew by. Saturday I did not get into the basement, but got things done for the new month. Then yesterday we went to church. In the afternoon we planned to go to the movie (Jesus Revolution). We were in line and they sold out just in front of us. So some of our group got to go and they rest of us brought tickets for the next one early evening. Glad we did as they sold out also. It was a very good movie and a true story. They showed the actual people and an update at the end.

Rosemarie - A few things you'd said made me think your husband did not have long to live... so glad you were able to give him a peaceful passing, and that you have family support with you. I know it has been a long, hard journey to get this far, and as I'm sure you've seen, you will have support from all of us here. Many hugs flying your way... Don't forget, we will get a link tomorrow for the March thread from Barbie. Keep us posted as and when you can.

Rosemarie I am so sorry to hear that your husband passed, may he rest in peace. You were a wonderful caregiver until the very end. Take care of yourself, remember to eat and drink when you can, and remember the good times as you grieve.
About my knee, I injured it about 2000 and had a botched surgery on it. I've had PT and reiki and lots of braces and ups and downs over the years. It doesn't hurt these days, it just pinches some by the time I get to the top of the stairs. I'm going to see what I can do on my own, and keep the PT as the next step. Thanks for reminding me that PT is a good option.
My knee and ankle are a little crooked. My toes point about fifteen degrees off from my knee, and my shin has a little bend in it. I may never get beyond about a three mile walk. But I can get back to that goal. And I will!
