ACTIVE APRIL1. Commit to being more active this month starting today. Yes!
2. Spend as much time as possible outdoors today. Yes!
3. Listen to your body and be grateful for what it can do. Yes! I can garden, which requires all sorts of body motion, and cycle.
4. Eat healthy and natural food today and drinks lots of water. Yes! Ate my usual food and drank lots of water up till about 8 pm. We won't talk about what happened after that.
5. Turn a regular activity into a playful game today. Hmmm ... Walking around the shops? Climbing stairs?
6. Do a body-scan meditation and really notice how your body feels. Achy.
7. Get natural light early in the day. Dim the lights in the evening.
There isn't much light early in the day here. Plus I was sleeping then. Plus it was cloudy, drizzly and rainy all day.
But I do dim the lights in the evening. It's one of many steps I take to wind down in the evenings to prepare myself for the night.
8. give your body a boost by laughing or making someone laugh
I rarely laugh. Most things don't strike me funny.
Lots of things amuse me, but not enough for laughter.
9. Turn your housework or chores into a fun form of exercise
I often do, but as today's work involved sitting at 2 computers, I walked on the treadmill during a break instead.
10. Have a day with less screen time and more movement
Unfortunately, today was another day sitting at 2 computers.
But I did go downstairs to row and lift weights.
Hoping the rain will let up soon!!! It's been 4 days already!
11. Set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge
One of my more favourite areas!!
We aim to cycle at least one 50 km ride each month and have been doing that for a while. At our AGM at the end of March, we got a bag full of these each.
We will have to see when we can fit our April ride in ... the 5 days off over Easter would have been good but it rained and rained and was cold and windy. Snow at higher elevations.
Maybe next weekend ... we'll see.
AND ... one of the bigger running events moved their event to September which is fantastic for me. Originally, it was this month, but I was nowhere near ready to even sign up for the 5K. Now I've got the winter to get in shape.
Also, now that I'm working back in the same building I was in about 16 months ago, with many of the same people, we've started our stair climbing challenge again. We are easing into it this month because of Easter and ANZAC Day but we'll be ready to be much more consistent in May.
The stair climbing challenge is exciting because when I'm busy climbing 20+ flights of 20 stairs each day I am at work, I lose weight.
12. Move as much as possible, even if you’re stuck inside
Absolutely! I climbed stairs.
13. Make sleep a priority and go to bed in good time
I do when I have to work the next day ... make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep.
But I am not keen on that. I'm a night owl and like to get things done late at night. Having to be in bed by 11:45 pm is a bit uncomfortably early.
14. Relax your body & mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation.
Gardening ... will gardening do?
15. Get active by singing today (even if you think you can’t sing)
I sing every day. My husband is very polite about it.
16. Go exploring around your local area and notice new things
I've spent 5 years on our island.
I've done a lot of local exploring!
I think exploring locally is a great idea and some people don't do enough of it. However, I'm getting more and more restless to go somewhere else as the weeks go by.
17. Be active outside. Dig up weeds or plant some seeds
I usually do this on the weekend when there's daylight.
However, I occasionally do some weeding in the pitch dark when I walk Rhody right after work.
18. Try a new online exercise, activity or dance class.
Hmmmmmmm ... not that keen on online exercise, aside from Zwift.
However, I have started a stair climbing challenge at work, and we keep track of it on an Excel spreadsheet.
19. Spend less time sitting today. Get up and move more often.
Walking in the morning and evening as part of my commute.
Walking at lunch.
Climbing stairs.
Walking back and forth to the kitchen and toilet.
Walking with Rhody after work.
20. Focus on eating ‘a rainbow of multi-colored vegetables today.
As always.24. Regularly pause to stretch and breathe during the day.
40. Enjoy moving to your favorite music. Really go for it.
41. Go out and do an errand for a loved one or neighbor.
42. Get active in nature. Feed the birds or go wild-life spotting.
43. Have a ‘no screens’ night and take time to recharge yourself.
44. Take an extra break in your day and walk outside for 15 minutes
45. Find a fun exercise to do while waiting for the kettle to boil (or pan of water.)
46. Meet a friend outside for a walk and a chat.
47. Become an activist for a cause you really believe in
48. Make time to run, swim, dance, cycle or stretch today

Been a long week and it is only Tuesday. One of my staff had her mom fall and break her hip yesterday and when they did the xray found she has advanced cancer. So she is gone for who knows how long. So I am work 6a-6p Monday-Friday until further notice. And they have put a freeze on hiring until at least July. One day at a time.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE
I don't know how you do it!
I do hope you're getting a massive amount of overtime pay.

Debbie, just saw your news, so pleased, and so glad he's got family to care for him!
Allie - So pleased that Carmine is wrapped up in the swirl of prom, no matter what's worn--it's a lovely thing.
One of those lovely, overcast mornings where the scent of the rain that's coming later fills the air, a soft, gray day... the birds are chattering back and forth, and a rooster, far in the distance, confused by the lack of sun, still crowing to announce the morning. Everything's green again.
Quiet day ahead, it looks like.
Love y'all,

I need to ship a package to my son. I had the wrong address on it. Thank goodness I found out my mistake before it was sent to the wrong address. 😳
Katla in IL9 -
Good morning, all. Haven't posted for a few days but I have been reading along.
Debbie, wonderful news about Nick. I felt so sad for everyone who was a part of his life when I read that he was missing. Going forward, I hope he will get the help and support that is so needed.
Been busy getting everything organised for my trip to Ireland and I think everything is done. Going out to the airport the day before as it is an early Sunday morning flight to Toronto then direct to Dublin. Meeting up with my friends at the gate in Toronto and so looking forward to this trip. It has been awhile since I have taken an escorted bus tour and excited about it.
Snow is finally gone and have been getting out for nice long walks with my dog.

I'm both a lion and a bear. I really work best doing what I've always thought of as farmers hours - up just before dawn to be out when the sun rises and morning is my get it done time, after 1 or 2 pm is all the routine tasks, and to bed earlyish... by 9 pm if I have my choice.1
-
I am a Lion! Even in college, I wanted to go to bed instead of staying up to study. Grew up in a large family where we had to go to sleep early and get up early. Boys had to do farm chores and mom and dad were work-a-holics.
Carol in GA2 -
Vicki - As Machka said, I don't know how you do it, either... 60 hours a week wasn't beyond me at 25 or 30 years old, but now? I'd be laid out in a hospital bed inside of two weeks.
Tracey - I think of you, and look for your posts, and I know the days are hard.
Kim - Same for you, too. The days are hard, I know, but with care, and a little luck, not unending. You'll be able to get your life back soon.
Joy - The trip sounds lovely.
Outside stuff: Got out in the yard and got the fig tree pruned down to the ground. That's apparently what this variety does - everything above ground dies off and it restarts at the base. The little baby leaves are already showing up at the base. I learn something every season.
While my little birthday redbud tree made it through last year's droughts and this winter's freezes, and even put out a few little flowers at the right time, the mini-magnolias Corey got me the year before are doing their best impressions of large, dead sticks. They couldn't handle the extremes, I guess. I'll go out and take them down tomorrow. Pretty sure the hydrangeas that were here when we got here also gave up the ghost over the winter, I'll check on them as well.
A couple of the crazy big Christmas-time amaryllis made it through. I just shoved a couple of those bulbs in the ground the first spring we were here, because I couldn't bring myself to throw them away. They're still hanging in there, so we'll see a flower or two from them later on. You really never know what's going to make it here... I had to prune two feet of growth off the top of the eight privet hedges that Corey rescued from work that got too spindly for the landscapers. We weren't sure they were going to make it through the drought, they got a little but they thrived.
The hematologist's office just called for intake questions for an 11:30 phone appt that I wasn't aware I had, so I'll be talking to her in a minute. At least it's a phone appt, since they're an hour's drive away!
Later y'all,
Love,

Thank you all for the sweet comments about Nick.
He is in the hospital on psych hold/evaluation until Sunday.
His dad reached out to dh and asked him to go over and see him Monday and hug him for him(dad is still in the Philippines). He also asked that dh not tell Nick's wife/family that the two have been talking.
His dad said mom is NOT coming back home with out their son.
Nick's mom sent dh a picture of him. He is on meds so looks a bit loopy but smiling.
He really is where he needs to be.
Dh is very glad he bit his tongue and didn't tell Nick's wife everything Nick had told him in confidence.
He told them a tiny bit of what he knew but kept the rest to himself.
Nick needs to get the help he needs but the family also needs to see what them pushing him so hard for so long has done and take some of the responsibility for it.5 -
Debbie, so delighted to hear about Nick, this world needs all the good news it can get. Hope the family learns something about not abusing the one the depend on.
Lisa - hydrangeas here go completely dormant and look dead if we get to much cold, but suddenly come late may or june (after the nights are above 50 or so) the darn things leaf out (and or send up shoots) and are back to being beautiful.
Kim4 -
Debbie: Wonderful news about Nick! I hope he goes home with his Mom!
Grandmallie: Great that Tracey and Carmine are working together on the prom outfit!
Joy: Have a good time in Ireland!
Katla: Sorry about your glasses and needing to get to the post office.
Rori: Glad you got to listen to some Pink Floy music!
Rebecca: Good going helping your sister with 2 storage units
Mary: The pork chop from Boudro's looks terrific!
Ginny: I hope you can pull back on some of the hours you are putting in.
Beth: I hope Spring comes your way and stays!
Lisa: I am also working on Trust/Will/ Estate stuff!
Michele: Glad the landscaping work is getting done!
Tracey: I hope you find a job that you like
Kylia: My DIL has trouble with migraines. So disruptive. Shame on the insurance company for refusing the MRI.
Tracey: I hope you find a job that you like!
Kim: Did you ever read Anne River Siddon's book Up Island? It is a light read but has stayed with me all these years. It is about creating your own family where you are planted.
Heather: An artisan beer and Persian meal sounds good to me!
Vicki: Wow! You are putting in some long days!
Flea: I hope you are feeling better.
I am sitting in my dining room which has nice light and nice long windows with a view of the front yard. I am basically content, though I cry every day. Tomorrow I plan to look into an exercise class that meets on Mondays. I have also begun doing weights again. Sometimes I can "feel" my husband's presence now. This is new and I am enjoying this development. The weather has been beautiful the past couple of days!
Best,

Lisa--Great news on the lab reports. The go on demand is one I have problems with. I have to go a lot and seems once I get in the lab all the sudden it dries up. The joys of getting older.
Debbie--So glad they found Nick and he is getting the help he needs.
Mary--Glad you made it home. Thanks for sharing the BBQ pictures. It sure looked good.
I am the dolphin. But working on going to bed the around the same time everynight. Just once I go to bed my mind takes off.
Machka--Yes I get overtime, but there comes a time when they take more out for taxes than it is worth and I end up with less. It's a fine line. I did talk to the girl today and she will be back next week, so happy about that. My meeting with my direct boss yesterday he is going to the higher up and see if I can hire one person to cover for vacations and sick time. Sure hope they agree and soon.
Lisa--I am very lucky that DH takes good care of me. I can get off and go home and get to bed at a good time and then he makes my lunch in the morning so all I have to do is get dressed. I am Blessed.
Rosemarie--HUGS!
Day 4--I went on overtime at 1030 this morning and work until 6p then 12 hours tomorrow. Thanks for all your support it means so much.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE9 -
Happy Thursday ladies!
I've been skimming, probably missed lots. But here goes...
Debbie - great news about Nick. Glad he's in a medical facility and also that your DH was such a good and trusted friend for him.
Rosemarie - sounds like you are keeping busy, I am envious of your sunshine! Neat to feel your husband's presence. I feel mine around too sometimes.
Carol - sending prayers and good thoughts for your brother.
Kim - glad the PT is on your side and helping keep your mom toeing the line. Hope she's progessing well and can return to her home and independence before long. Is your brother living at her house?
Karen - I was thrilled hearing about the impromptu music treat you had when the gal with the Viola came to visit. Were you able to record/film any of it?
Mary - I've been following your travels and those great meals! Guy Fieri stopped in our small community a few years ago and he featured three restaurants .... they were all great choices and make the best food.
Lisa - sounds like you are feeling lots better, I had missed your chatty posts. Going tinkle on demand (command) is great for puppy dogs too, lol.
Tracey - crossing fingers you find a better job soon OR your current nasty boss gets promoted and moved 200 miles away! Who can you write a letter of recommendation to for her? I'm thinking outside the box here, lol. Trying to get rid of her w/o bring on bad karma!
Kylia - gosh what a deal with those meds. I'd be having a "conversation" with that doc about HER mental health for sure. Seriously, docs must be getting real burned out by now after the covid mess, more docs retiring or moving due to employer policies that make THEM nuts! My DH was on a lot of meds by the time he passed away, and in my heart I think they contributed to his poor health and eventual death. Several of them were to counteract the side effects of the others. He was trusting and didn't question other than saying he hated taking a handful of pills each night.
Katla - glad you caught your son's address being incorrect. Hope your glasses get repaired soon and your daughter's family is on the mend.
Ginny - so sorry to hear about your DH's death being caused by meds. Hope your thyroid cancer continues down the "maintain" path and that you can enjoy a long and healthy retirement, whenever that is.
Heather and all of you who have had luck with purchased Basil plants - I got one at Walmart last week and so far haven't killed it. I repotted it yesterday. I need to pinch off the older stuff and toss it in some olive oil for the time being.
I decided today was the last day for a fire the woodstove so have been cleaning up around it, stashing kindling and fire starters. I do have a small woodbox I filled with a couple day's worth of firewood but hope to not have to use it.
I played Ms. Fixit with my laptop this morning - I had a malware "browser hijacker" - Yahoo was replacing Chrome. Followed a guide for fixing it and I backed up and just rebooted this thing and all seems OK, I think I got rid of it for good. If not I'll take it into Staples where I bought it and their tech can figure it out. It always makes me a little nervous.... but slowing down and reading directions helps, lol.
I've been potting up little tomatoes, have a dozen more but want them to grow a little more so they are a couple days away. Will be glad to get that dirt out of the laundry room - spreading newspapers over the washer and dryer makes a great place for repotting and the garage/grow lights are just through the door there.
Make it a fabulous day!

Our friend B in Cyprus was able to join our Zoom for five minutes while she and her husband were arriving at a restaurant with WiFi. It looked lovely, on the beach. Her husband is 84 and very sprightly!
I've had an AF day today as I'm renewing my efforts to lose a few pounds before the cruise. It was surprisingly easy, but tomorrow is wine night.
I received my Amazon vouchers today, as a reward for taking part in an online Saga forum. I only did it for the vouchers and it wasn't too onerous. £100. Hooray!
All love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Lanette—Thanks for your kind words. I hope to get my broken glasses frame replaced. 🤞🏻Those lenses are perfect. The frame broke while I was wearing them. 😳.
The back up glasses are old & are not the correct lens prescription and cause eye strains.
I haven’t had the opportunity to get a new frame for the good lenses.

Good afternoon ladies!
I went horseback riding and I finally donated my saddle to the stable. It feels like the end of an era. The truth is that I only do indoor walk/trot lessons on older stable horses who have their own saddles, and I have no need for a saddle. I haven't used it in ten years or so. The fantasy was that someday I would be strong and quick and long-legged and be a fabulous rider, but that's not going to happen. So the saddle went to a new home where they will use it and take care of it.

Ginny - Thanks for the explanation on the PET scan, I was confused, too. I'm sorry the meds were implicated in your DH's death.
Rosemarie - Just many hugs, my dear.
Lanette - Thank you--I always figure people can skip over the wordier parts. How are the chickie babies doing?
The promised rain has moved in, and Egg is not too fond of the thunder boomers. She came in complaining and damp--she must have been well away from the house when it started and had to run. Love that smell of rain--all told, spent 12 years in various desert areas, and I missed the rain more than anything. When it came, there was always a violence to the rain in the desert, but here, the trees and the grass make it softer, somehow.
Talked to the hematologist (the doctor working on my anemia issues) this morning. She was quite pleased with the test results. My hemoglobin is one of her big flags, and it's gotten better--not quite yet up to normal, but very nearly. She is requesting a CT scan with contrast in order to check for other possible reasons for the previous blood loss and current weight loss. I'm down to 141, and the first time she saw me in November, I was at 165. She wasn't too happy with that.
Anyway, I'm fine with the scan, I'm all for anything that can illuminate all this and get me closer to recovering myself. Not sure I'll recognize me anymore if it goes on too much longer.
Corey will be calling soon to tell me he's on his way... The rain's already passed us by, just the music left of the water on the leaves sprinkle, splash, plop. The birds are already calling again.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Well I was going to do embroidery this summer, but a friend believes I would enjoy knitting. So I have signed up for a 3 hour knitting class on May 13, 2023. So between now and then I will have to get some needles and yarn and watch some u-tube videos to see if I can get the hang of this.

Awesome! It's great you've signed up for a class. I taught myself from a book many years ago - and I now knit left-handed even tho I'm right handed doing everything else.
Teachers can show you tricks and shortcuts. Hope you enjoy it!

Just finished defrosting the big freezer- what a chore!! Feels great to have it done and not have to deal with it again for at least a year or two. Don't want to ever let it get this bad. Stuff in the back was up to 5 yrs old- it is in the trash.
Everything is very organized and now when we get a deal, we have room for it. Like the shrimp we are getting tomorrow at Safeway at 2.99 a pound for 2lb bags. Limit is 4 bags and we will be getting 4.
Do need to be a lot more careful buying and do need to figure out what to make with a lot of blueberries- found at least 5 bags of them plus rashberries and a few black berries.
Next will be the freezer on the garage fridge- will be simple to do that now that I have the big one cleared out. May empty it and use that just for ds's things if he wants to. Then he can find his stuff easier. Just not happening today.
No weeding done but did get a few more seeds planted in the greenhouse to replace the ones the snails/slugs got. I need to go out at night to see if I can see where they are coming in. I have salt around it but think I may have missed a spot.
picked up Vietnamese rice paper shrimp rolls and grilled chicken ban mi sandwich for lunch/dinner.
Stayed busy so will be way under calories most likely.3 -
Rosemary those pork chops tasted better than they looked if that was possible! Have fun at your knitting class!
Lanette there were a lot of Triple D places in Oregon when we went there 6 years ago. I bet they made a trip up the West coast and hit your area as well. I love trying new foods and he’s a great resource.
