Challenges are on my todo list. I need to ship a package to my son & I don’t have transportation to get it done. Normally our daughter would do that but she & the family are at home sick. I hope things improve soon.

Lisa My trip like yours was when I was 18. Got married in September. He left for boot camp 5 days after wedding. I drove from Washington DC to Witchita Falls Texas in December to move with him at air force tech school. My family and friends were all greatly concerned. I had a blast! Another road trip is on my to do list. DH doesn't travel well so will stay on list for now.
Much love,
Kylia
Reminds me of my trip halfway across Canada, driving a moving van which was the largest vehicle I had ever driven, with all my worldly possessions and 2 cats!!

I am frustrated. I need to ship a package to my son but I am unable to go to the post office to send it. Added to that, my glasses frame broke. I’m getting by with an older pair that doesn’t have the correct prescription. The lenses are fine. I need a new frame.
End of whine for now.

Flea--Pray you are feeling better. Glad to hear DH's first day went better than expected. Hoping that is a good sign.·
Tracey--I don't understand the freeze either. They say to just buck it up and get thought it. I do have a meeting this afternoon with my direct boss so will see if he has any insight on how to deal with this mess.
Katla--Is there someone at the place you live to help you get the package mailed and get your glasses fixed?
Got some rain last evening and sounds like we could get some today. We really need it.

Good morning ladies!
I'm proud of myself. I went through my box of old "soft" pants, and put many of them in a bag for goodwill. I didn't even try on the ones that lacked pockets. I just gave myself permission to get rid of the ones I didn't like, no matter the reason. Yay!
I have several pairs of shorts with drawstring waist and pockets for summer. So I'm all set!

Rebecca: Hope youngest son will reach out once he's in your time zone. Your sister is lucky to have your help with the purge.
Kim: Lordy! You are really being tested. My hat is off to you for your devotion and love. So sorry it isn't returned by the family into which you were born. I can relate. Add me to the many here who love you to pieces.
Carol: I hope your brother is finding more comfort every day.
Kylia: (hugs)
Terri: Hope all goes well and you have a quick recovery.
Karen: Nothing beats live music. What a lovely get-together you hosted. Brava!
Mary: I really like Las Cruces. Any chance your travels will bring you to Colorado?
Hugs and waves of energy to all who need them.
Is it too late to list my 10?
1. Age: 67
2. Live: Denver, Colorado
3. Work: Retired in 2018. after 30 years as a non-profit fundraiser and consultant. Now I work part-time for a company that supplies the ushers, security, crowd management and parking personnel for every major sports and entertainment venue in Denver. I get to pick the events I want to work.
4. Family: Widowed in 2021. Lost my DH and my younger brother 66 days apart after being their caregiver for 2+ years. With exception of one niece, the rest of my family is spread between Seattle and Panama.
5. Sports: Yes! I am a huge sports fan and am passionate about my local NBA team, the Nuggets. I am not an athlete, but can swim long distances in pool or open water.
6. Hobbies: Meditation, Reiki, Gym workouts, traveling, walking my 12 year old cat who loves to go out on a leash.
7. Season: All seasons. Each has its beauty and charm.
8. Music: Salsa/merengue, classic rock, symphony pop
9. Pets: Mars, a light tan tabby who thinks he's a dog
10. Food: Seafood, and any homemade meal prepared with love.
Work has been fun. Ushered two symphony concerts this weekend. Joshua Bell (violin) and his wife Larisa Martinez (opera soprano) performed some specially arranged pieces which they present as "Violin and Voice". Tremendous talent. The next night we had the symphony, a rock band and lead singer perform the music of Pink Floyd. Awesome! Forgot how many great songs they have. I stopped by the box office and bought tickets for four more concerts. I enjoy treating friends to a good show and generating support for the arts. So many of my friends have out-dated impressions of a symphony experience. And, because the concert hall is downtown, many don't want to deal with the drive at night. So, I make it easy for them. Yeah, it sometimes seems I work events so I can buy tickets to more events. LOL.
Okay friends. Stay well. WE ARE FAMILY. We can do this.

ACTIVE APRIL
1.Commit to being more active this month starting today. I commit to this by adding the exercises from the 6 minute book for over 60’s.18. Try a new online exercise, activity or dance class. Not sure if I will have time today. Did not have time today.
2. Spend as much time as possible outdoors today. Easy! LOL
3. Listen to your body and be grateful for what it can do. I do this during walking meditations every day.
4. Eat healthy and natural food today and drinks lots of water. Yogurt and raspberries for breakfast with 17 oz water bottle and coffee, more to come.
5. Turn a regular activity into a playful game today. Not sure. Joked with hairdresser while getting hair cut. Everyone was laughing and joining in.
6. Do a body-scan meditation and really notice how your body feels. I do this often in my meditations.
7. Get natural light early in the day. Dim the lights in the evening. Morning done. Will do in evening.
8. give your body a boost by laughing or making someone laugh. I will as soon as I can! Did this with friends.
9. Turn your housework or chores into a fun form of exercise. Hmmmm tbd
10. Have a day with less screen time and more movement. I’ll try.
11. Set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge. Already have goals: Yoga 10 mins 3 times a week, Walk 7,000 every day, 6 min HIIT -2x a day, Arm weights twice a week
12. Move as much as possible, even if you’re stuck inside. I will do. Vet this morning then normal day, so will be able to do this.
13. Make sleep a priority and go to bed in good time. Easy Peasy!
14. Relax your body & mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation. I will meditate and try to find time for yoga too. I did all I wanted to do.
15. Get active by singing today (even if you think you can’t sing). I can’t sing but will sing along with music anyway. Sang “When the ants go marching in” during my walk.
16. Go exploring around your local area and notice new things. OOOH, this sounds like fun.
17. Be active outside. Dig up weeds or plant some seeds. I will tend my container garden. I have watered it but need to remove dead leaves from tomato plants.
19. Spend less time sitting today. Get up and move more often. After the last 2 days, this is a welcome change!20. Focus on eating ‘a rainbow of multi-colored vegetables today.
21. Regularly pause to stretch and breathe during the day.
22. Enjoy moving to your favorite music. Really go for it.
23. Go out and do an errand for a loved one or neighbor.
24. Get active in nature. Feed the birds or go wild-life spotting.
25. Have a ‘no screens’ night and take time to recharge yourself.
26. Take an extra break in your day and walk outside for 15 minutes
27. Find a fun exercise to do while waiting for the kettle to boil (or pan of water.)
28. Meet a friend outside for a walk and a chat.
29. Become an activist for a cause you really believe in
30. Make time to run, swim, dance, cycle or stretch today

Rebecca - I thought of you when I saw it again. Rear Admiral Grace Hopper definitely said it, or something very like it, but she was quoting an older saying, I believe. I've loved this sentiment for a long time. And she was one of my heroes.2

Or for so many things - can you image garlic bread made from a cheesy bap?
Kim - There were a number of British sandwiches that I loved, and a few that I was um, not that fond of, like a cheese and pickle sandwich. The pickle was actually a chutney, and not something my little Texas tastebuds thought was yummy... made me wary for quite a while of not knowing what was inside those rolls until it was too late! Loved the food there, and that was decades before London became a foodie destination. Memories of pub food can still make me smile with the memories...4 -
I had the most amazing spinach and walnut lasagna ever in a pup in the Lake District, I begged for the recipe to no avail... and have made many a spinach and walnut lasagna over the years with nothing that even measures up.

Did the body pump DVD. I haven’t done one in a few weeks now (because of the landscaper, he was supposed to be here one week but he only came for about 20 minutes, the next time was because he was here with the guys and got the job done). Vince goes for his MRI tomorrow on his back.
Went to the landfill to put an old TV there then habitat for humanity to donate the pool railings, then Lowe’s hardware to get more of the landscape blocks and a sprinkler. Now home for lunch and then we’ll probably go outside and put down the blocks. Vince is having problems with the salt water generator. It’s saying that we don’t have any salt (I just dumped 3 bags in). He’s suspecting that maybe we got a defective generator
Rebecca – great news about your son! I’m sure you are ecstatic
Rori – I know what you man about perceptions. I love TSO (TransSiberian Orchestra). When I mention them, so many people think of a stuffy orchestra. They are anything but that.
Annie – I need to look for a new pair of work shorts. Guess I’ll probably go to the Salvation Army for that.
Maybe I’ll have some lunch and then go work outside.

Kim, this brought such a swirl of food-bound memories...Plaice and chips at a pub in Mildenhall, near the RAFB there, absolute perfection in its own way... Then there was the Chinese takeaway just down the road from RAFB Greenham Common base housing, near Reading. Best shrimp and fried rice I've ever had before or since. A house-made ale in Newquay that I actually loved the taste of and I generally despise all forms of beer. Fish and chips in paper in London, anywhere, it was all amazing, totally different. The American versions never live up to it, and a big part of that was the amazing North Sea cod they used. I worked in a hospital dining hall on base, and the British ladies from Lakenheath area who worked with us made Yorkshire pudding along with a baron of beef every Sunday. Military folks would come in from home to have dinner at the dining hall, it was that good.
Visiting friends in Germany, and my first taste of calamari. My friend Fred wouldn't tell me what it was until I ate a few and fell in love with them. Every conceivable kind of schnitzel, never got a bad one there. Christmas stollen, almost exactly as tasty as American fruitcake, but dry. (You can't win them all!) Germany was my introduction to horseradish mustard, which I still love. It was also my introduction to wine. We did a wine tasting tour on the Mosel, and I found I only liked the light, sweet wines. I don't drink it at all now.
Sorry if I just gave anyone cravings! One of the things I learned there when I lost 80 pounds in a year was to eat what I chose, but eat small amounts. It was all about keeping serving sizes under control and moving. I was younger then, too, but the tenet still stands. If I denied myself something, I would eat too much of other things trying to resolve the cravings...
Good memories.
Oh - and not to put a pin in the romance balloon, but the filled bread buns were just OK for a couple weeks. He's back to leftovers and regular sandwiches. He makes his own pickles to take with him, plus various fresh veggies and an apple. I have learned to sleep in and let him make his own... he's happier that way, all things considered. And... ahem... don't tell him, but so am I. Touching food in the morning makes me urpy-licious.6 -

Machka no antenna here, just cable. If lightning did destroy the TV could it extend harm those watching it? “Stubborn and persistent” are how I made all the computer systems wherever I worked do what I wanted them to
Tracey was thinking about your interview struggles and remembered that the very best and most brilliant tech assistant I ever hired gave the worst interview. Stiff, cold, humorless, in retrospect I realize he must have been terrified and desperate for the job. But when I took him to the server and asked him to do some basic tasks, he relaxed and shone far above anyone before or since, and soon shared a delightful dry wit. Hope this perspective from a hirer helps.
Lisa, ditto what you said about this group. Thanks for the coax surge protector tip, just ordered two, one for each TV. Here’s to all the plucky women here, both little and bigger.
Kim ((hugs)) what Lisa said about grieving for that mother who died with your father. You have made a family by being such a good godmother and aunt. You can make as much family as you want by choosing members who are as loving and loyal as you are. Fooey to the rest ((hugs))
Vicki ((hugs)) Please take care of yourself, that sounds like a killer workload.
Flea ((hugs)) Hope you’re feeling better immediately. Glad your DH is finding new job not as bad as anticipated.
Rosemarie watched Under the Tuscan Sun yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it Thanks to you and all who mentioned it.
Terri love the “I am … “ meme, and what you said about the strength and resilience of those struggling. Wishing you peaceful rest tonight, successful surgery and quick/easy recovery. Would your DH update us if you can’t?
Debbie, swans in the Napa River? Wow. In all the years we drove up to visit Mama we never saw swans.
Ginny, even though “wait and see” is a kind of good news, it can be so wearing. ((hugs))
Mary I look forward to some pics of real TX bbq brisket!
Kylia Please pursue an appeal, your wellbeing is important to us. Fight for it! And I’d consider a second cardiologist’s opinion. The one you have now might be trying to cover his *kitten* because of the reaction to his rX.
Michele Brava for being Vince’s motivator! Prayers the MRI shoes his back issue is something non-threatening and easily remedied.
Rebecca video chat with stepson and step daughter from the storage unit? Brava! And relieving your sister of the burden to pack and send their choices? BRILLIANT!
Tracey, thanks, I think, for pointing out Joe was right. I should have walked away from the TV during that lightning storm. From https://www.weather.gov/safety/lightning-myths “Myth: If you are in a house, you are 100% safe from lightning. Fact: A house is a safe place to be during a thunderstorm as long as you avoid anything that conducts electricity. This means staying off corded phones, electrical appliances, wires, TV cables, computers, plumbing, metal doors and windows. . . .”
Rori “…treating friends to a good show and generating support for the arts.” So you!
Heather “cheese baps” with bacon? My mouth is watering.
Katla how frustrating! Hope you can get the frame repaired or the lenses re-framed quickly! Know how important reading is to you.
Kim I am so with you on the cheesy baps. Yes, the bap recipe made me think of the sandwich rolls Lisa bakes for Corey. Garlic cheesy baps? Oh my dear you are on to something GREAT!
Tina what you said about the cheesy baps, in spades!
It enrages me that insurance companies can refuse to cover doctor-ordered tests and even surgery. One of the dog group leader had a vein in her leg “erupt” enough to send her to the ER twice. She’s finally agreed to the recommended surgery but no, Medicare says she has to wear compression socks for three months and revisit before the surgery can be approved. I’m pushing her to appeal and/or approach the Medicare Beneficiary Ombudsman, but it’s an uphill slog.

Good evening....someone said rhis has been the longest week and it is only Tuesday.....I agree!
My heart doctor called yesterday. Her response was to contact my primary doctor about my mental health! My mental health was fine before the medicine they put me on. Grumbling....I need to make another appointment to see what's next.....Will keep you posted. Lisa I am trying to take a page from your book to keep being brave and trying for the right medicine, but am really not excited for more side effects. My insurance company refused the mri request from neurologist. I really want to know why people with no medical license get to undermine those with medical licenses. DH says I need to call around and see prices of just getting it done without insurance. Woke up this morning with anxiety high. Started back on that medicine tonight. It was helping prior to the carvedilol.
DH's sister had a tia at work Friday.
Love,

Kylia, my darlin', Regarding the first thing lit up in red up there, the cardiologist would have had me sitting in her office when she got in the next morning asking what HER major malfunction was. It is not crazy to stop taking a medication when it is making you miserable and ill, she needs to read the patient's bill of rights again. Number five or thereabouts: "The patient has the right to make decisions about [their] care before and during the course of treatment and to refuse a recommended treatment." You have the right to stop taking a medication, and you notified her as soon as possible.
As far as me being brave, I've just seen too many doctors to think they're god-like. I tend to see this as more like, "next!" Each thing has worked somewhat, has gotten me a little bit further back to my life. Now it's just a matter of finding the one that can actually get me across the finish line. And all of them have had side effects. Like this last one, I'm able to shift to taking them at night so I'm not nauseated all day. I did not ask the doctor if I could, but I did read the info on Rinvoq to find out if there was a time of day I was supposed to be taking it, and there was not. The change worked, by the way. If it hadn't, I'd have been in her office saying, "OK, what's next?" because I couldn't operate being urky all day long. The first medication they put me on landed me in the emergency room two days running--I had a horrible reaction to doxycycline, so the ER guy put me on something else and the VA gastro kept me on the one the ER guy suggested. His reaction, by the way was, "Well, I'm glad I waited to talk to you until the fuss was over." I fired him, in the end, and am working with one here in the community. You have the right to doctors who treat you with respect.
What I did finally realize after a boatload of research is that they honestly don't really know what's going to work for you. They have a list of their go-to meds that have worked for others, so they start with the ones they know... but they genuinely have little idea WHY they worked, so they don't know if they're going to work for you. There are exceptions, but when you dig into the research and read the small print in the packets, there is often a line somewhere that says, in effect, "We don't know why it works, but we have lots of research that says it does." Medicine is a game of statistics developed from groups of people, which is then played with individual lives. You are the one who knows your body best, Kylia. You had a right to stop being in that kind of pain. I hope they find something that helps soon without making you miserable.
Oh - and I'm sorry about your SIL's TIA. My mother began having them about six months before the big stroke that killed her. Not to say they were connected, though... we never found out whether she fell and hit her head and had the stroke or the stroke knocked her to the ground, receiving the injury to her head when she fell. Either way, I saw her go through one, and TIAs are scary as all get out.
Much love, dear heart, thinking about you,
Lisa in AR10 -
Barbara update on beef brisket! We will be going through El Paso right around suppertime! We found a barbecue place called Desert Oak BBQ. It was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives! I’ll take pictures and let you know how it is!

Well, I've been just a Chatty Cathy today, haven't I! Remember those dolls? They creeped me out then and still do...
I was a big girl today and went to the lab and provided a urine sample without any problems. Who knew that being able to tinkle on demand would be a critical skill in later life? Pretty sure that wasn't in the brochure.
Regarding the rest of the tests - There were a number of improvements across the board. My thyroid test was perfect, and the anemia-related tests were better across the board. Some key ones actually got back up to normal. The combination of taking thyroid and iron off of the excuse list also is a wake-up call. It's plain that me running out of breath when I walk down to check the mail and walk back up isn't because I've got a medical issue, it's because I'm severely out of shape! Time to drop the excuses and get moving, I'm thinking.
Quiet day once I got back from town. Hope everyone's day has been awesome. Time to get some chicken going in the Instant Pot for chicken enchiladas later...
Love y'all,

Good afternoon ladies!
I had to look up a cheese bap too. Looks scrumptious, but too many calories for me! I mostly avoid butter and cheese and milk, except I can tolerate lactose free yogurt.
It's been a challenging week diet/exercise wise. I will be happy to maintain weight on Friday. I just got an arrangement of chocolate dipped fruit from a friend. Monday I didn't exercise because of the power outage, and yesterday I over ate out of anxiety over my parents. Some weeks are full of interruptions.
Wishing you all the best of health, and full success with your medicines!

Family: I am sometimes sad with the longing for the family that was not to be. Then I listen to my sister-in-law and am thankful to have been spared the drama.04/18: Move: 2 sets PT w/X, doges to powerline. steps:3912 :P

2023: Be of good cheer. April: Move more, fuel better, live NOW.
No I am helping eldest sister with her storage units. We have to video chat with her passed husbands (grown)children. Most is his stuff in storage. She had wanted them to come down from Spokane WA to their dads childhood home in Shedd Oregon to look at items. With technology these days, with both of us at the storage unit, one holding her phone, and another one unwrapping and hold items, we should make quick work of it. The most important thing is my sister only has to look at items once.

Love y'all,

Tinkle on command. *snorts* that phrase.....priceless. 💖😂. Great news on the positive improvements test wise! As my mom would say, "Good On Ya"!

Question for you all ...
When you were young (under 20), what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a nurse... Only problem is that I get queasy getting shots or getting blood taken. With that barrier, I started college as an education major, but with just 3 semesters left, I realized my heart wasn't in it. I changed my major to nursing. After 24 years of being an RN, I've never regretted it! It's in my soul. I still get queasy when needles are headed in my direction, but it makes me much more empathetic for my patients!10 -

Annie I am sensitive to some milks & cheeses. I love cottage cheese & can consume lactose free milk without trouble. I can also use 2% milk in cooking. Cheddar cheeses don’t bother me. There are plenty of other cheeses that I can’t eat. Everyone has different preferences and sensitivities. 😉
