Hi Gals,
So the freezer dilemma stories got me thinking about what I have done for while my Mom is staying here and for what a number of friends do – especially for garage freezers A list on the front of the freezer (for the very organized by shelf) for the rest of us just a list. So I have a list with what and how many… and because I live alone every thing is done is servings of one or two. If I have company I can always pull out extra.. So right now the shelf for mom has
pizza crust – 1
pizza sauce ½ jar
enchiladas 2 (each has 2 servings)
salmon 3 packages of 2 filets
bacon bits 3 snack bags
1 bag breakfast sausage links
Brownies – ½ batch
Sloppy Sams filling 3 packages of 2 servings each (vegan sloppy joe)
I just cross off stuff and add stuff as I grow veggies or there is a sale, and every so often I just take it off and redo it so it is not so crazy to read.
It had a lot more but this is after 21 days…. Then there’s a list for the rest of the freezer… it really helps with menu planning, and the days that I have zero ideas.
My best girl friend came over today – it was so nice to spend time together, she lives 2 hours each way away so it is hard to get together, We worked on a project I have wanted to get done pre-summer which was to rescreen 2 window screens, both had developed tears in the screens I am so pleased to have time with her and to have this project complete.

Heather - thank you for the compliment on my writing. It reminds me I need to get at writing the book I want to write for my girls.
My daughter has learned a lot about ADHD in girls/women. One the traits-symptoms? in young girls is voraciously reading. We couldn’t keep out daughter in books. We also couldn’t get her to keep her room clean. Looking back, after learning about it, is that I was teaching her and setting up organization techniques based on my way, when in actuality it is the opposite of what her ADHD needs. She is still struggling with that skill. It hurts my heart. As they get older anxiety and depression are traits. A lot of women are flying under the radar until they are done school. The structure is what has helped them and when they don’t have it
everything blows up on them.
A beautiful photo of you. I don’t talk to my nieces and nephews often, never on the phone. Just a text here and there.
Karen - I think you have done well making friends in your new community. It hasn’t been a year yet has it?
I need to learn not to share too much about myself and to keep my thoughts to myself when I am upset at work. I do not have a poker face, so if someone asks me what’s wrong I just spill all.
Kelly - I agree with you on your conversation with DH.
No matter how old our kids are we still worry. I wouldn’t be sleeping either.
Ginny - I agree that a lot of us are on a spectrum. Every time my daughter tells me a new trait, I tell her that I just thought that was how my brain worked. I’m sure I have ADHD as does my husband. My nephew is on the Autism spectrum.
Lisa - the prism is how I picture people on the spectrum.
Margaret- I love the painting. I may attempt that one for my granddaughter
Allie - I think one of the problems of being alone and not having a schedule is you think “I’ll do it later” and later never comes. I understand. My cleaning has really gone down hill with DH working shift work because “I’ll be alone the next night too”.
Interestingly, this is also a ADHD thing. I think it’s the executive disfunction. You know what needs to be done but don’t know where to start so sit and think about it so long you don’t have time to do it. 🙋♀️. Me it’s me!
At age 50 here they do a baseline bone density test. The year I turned 50 I had another appointment scheduled for the day before my birthday at the same place. They weren’t allowed to do it for me as I wouldn’t be 50 so it wouldn’t be covered. I ended up getting both appointments the day after my birthday.
Carla - I can’t imagine. We have health privacy laws too, but not as strict as the US.
Mary - do you drink the bone broth? Or rub it in?
Michaela and her Mom visited today while Jonah and DH went to the movie. We went to a couple of thrift stores, Michaela found her dream dress, dream couch and dream skirt. The dress was a wedding dress. 😂 she did buy another dream dress that was sequins on the bodice and a taffeta skirt. She ended up with 4 outfits for $20. She also found a little sewing machine, we bought it then of course has to get some material. There aren’t any fabric stores local to us so we bought two bandanas and she made a pillow. We have decided to teach her how to use the real sewing machine. It will be much easier.
Here she is proudly showing off her project.

Welcome @Pfradenburg01! The best of luck, but planning is more reliable for me ;]

Rosemarie love your music festival plans.
Allie thanks for the pics of Miles learning to mow but most especially the BUBBLES!
Tracey, love what the young’uns in your family come up with. Speaking their truth early on!
Karen “…it really isn’t nice to tell someone else to be nice” Truth this. Also yours about living in a retirement community is something I’m learning about living in a small rural community. Discretion is NOT my strong suit. I envy the good about your new residence and wish it were part of a national chain…
KJ sure it wasn’t funny to you and him but your answer made me laugh. I’ve long felt testosterone poisoning was at the root of so much of humanity’s troubles.

I still can’t stop saying “bless your heart” even though I know that to some people it means “well aren’t you just too stupid to be alive.”
Carol oh yes for the “in between”. Ditto. Recognize about a quarter of Machka’s list in myself.
Beth well said about life vs diets.
Margaret yours about HIPAA laws vs family working as team with medical. Frustrating and sad.
Heather video chat with your niece? Bravissima! Photo? Bellissima!
Ginny “…use “be nice" as a reason to not be honest. We don't want to hurt someone's feelings, …We end up doing more harm by not providing honest feedback.” True but sometimes so hard to do.
Annie Yay YOU!
Mary sorry but those chicken feet look just too creepy.

Bahahaha! I almost said to Karen in that post that the best return would be, "Well, bless your heart, is it hard for you to watch people disagree occasionally? We both know (gesturing to herself and spouse) that healthy relationships have disagreements. If we thought the same about everything that would be boring and stagnant!" I always try to return southern with southern, it's a very coded, but effective squelch.
So glad you're feeling better with your ginger and prunes...

I'm a wolf!
My wolfish circadian rhythm means that in an ideal world, I would go to sleep about 2 am, I would wake up about noon (10 hours sleep), I would spend the first couple hours easing into the day. About 2 pm, I would have a burst of energy which would keep going until about midnight, and then I'd wind down and go to sleep about 2 am.
And I have just described almost every weekend and holiday.
Unfortunately, work doesn't let me do that so my work days have the additional difficulty level of working against my natural wolfish circadian rhythm
According to this article: Circadian Rhythm ... I experience a Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder and my husband (with the traumatic brain injury), experiences an Irregular Sleep-Wake Rhythm Disorder.
https://www.sleepfoundation.org/circadian-rhythm
Advanced Sleep Phase Disorder: People with this type of disruption find that they get tired early in the evening and wake up very early in the morning. Even if they want to be up later at night or sleep later in the morning, people with an advanced sleep phase disorder usually cannot do so. This disorder is relatively rare, affecting around 1% of people in middle and older age, and occurs more frequently in older adults. In some cases, advanced sleep phase disorder may be related to an inherited genetic cause.
Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder: This type of circadian rhythm disruption is associated with “night owls” who stay up late at night and sleep in late in the morning. It is rare among the general population — affecting just 1 or 2 people out of every 1,000 — but impacts up to 16% of teens. The exact cause is unknown but may be related to genetics, underlying physical conditions, and a person’s behavior.
Irregular Sleep-Wake Rhythm Disorder: People with this rare disorder have no consistent pattern to their sleep and may have many naps or short sleeping periods throughout a 24-hour day. It is frequently connected to conditions that affect the brain, such as dementia or traumatic brain injury, that limit the proper functioning of the master clock in the hypothalamus.

Good Sunday!
I am a "Bear" according to the quiz, but "Wolf" tendencies also. My favorite work hours are 5am-2pm. I am NO good trouble shooting from 2-7pm. Maybe a nap would help that, but am at work. If I have lots to do then early morning or late night are best. When DH use to be gone on weekends, I would take a nap in afternoon when could, then get more things done.
I am doing okay. I woke up thinking about what I want/need to get done today. Wanted to check in first.

Miles appears to be learning well, Allie!
Glad you're on the road to recovery, Terri.
HIPAA was a royal pita when our daughters were still living at home and passed the age of 16, but we were still covering their insurance (and all of their living expenses, of course) (16!!!) Lacy was deathly sick with flu one year, in bed, could barely move. I called the doctor to see if we could get a prescription for Tamiflu. The nurse said she wouldn't talk to me unless Lacy approved it. I put the phone up to her face and she coughed out, "YES D**NIT!!!" Nurse was NOT happy, but gave me the prescription. I get it, but seriously. They're my kids, I paid the insurance AND all the co-pays and bills over the co-pays. Give me a break! We finally got wise had them both assign us as part of their medical charts so the doctors and nurses had to speak to us whenever we called after that. smh. As you say, Margaret, it makes it very hard to work as a team in the best interest of the patient. Thankfully, my brother has power of attorney for Mom.
22. Enjoy moving to your favorite music. Really go for it. ALWAYS!
Love and Blessings, Carla, in MN
_______
Carla, it sounds as if that nurse was confused.
From the HHS.gov site: “…the provider or plan can share your information with family or friends if:
They are involved in your health care or payment for your health care,
You tell the provider or plan that it can do so,
You do not object to sharing of the information, or
If, using its professional judgment, a provider or plan believes that you do not object.”
Any one of these conditions are sufficient for a provider to share information and allow a parent to act on the behalf of a minor child.
From the Jackson LLP site jacksonllp.com:
"Generally, anyone under eighteen is considered a minor and cannot legally exercise their rights under HIPAA. Instead, HIPAA considers the minor’s parent or guardian to be their “personal representative.” The Privacy Rule authorizes a personal representative to exercise the minor’s HIPAA rights on their behalf. Thus, for the most part, parents have access to their minor children’s medical records, and turning over a minor’s confidential health information to a parent is generally not a violation of HIPAA laws."
If the health problem has to do with reproductive rights that a minor wishes to keep secret, there are different rules which vary from state to state, but for influenza, the nurse in your doctor’s office could certainly have interacted with you without bothering your daughter and without violating HIPAA.
It’s unfortunate that fear of HIPAA fines has caused many providers to overreact - it causes a lot of unnecessary grief where minors are involved.

I appreciate the translations of Southern Speak and boy, do they ring true!
I have one acquaintance here (Bobbi) who is the Mistress of Southern-Speak. (This is not my “Be Nice” friend, whose name is Santa). Bobbi gracefully & graciously launches verbal velvet harpoons on a daily basis; people don’t even realized they’ve been pierced until they look down and notice the tiny trickle of blood. She is something to behold. I have had past experience with velvet harpoonists, so recently when she made some Southern-Speak comments about my visiting friends who had apparently disrupted her floor’s jigsaw puzzling protocol ( ), I waited until she was all done, and then I made direct eye contact and I kindly said, “Bobbi, point made. It won’t happen again.” She got quite flustered that I was so kind and direct in addressing her true message. It was all I could do to keep from laughing. She brought rum cake and pimento cheese the next day, which just made me laugh even more. The other day she brought me a big container of cooked bacon which she got from the kitchen staff (who adore her because she bribes them with rum cake).
Update on Santa, my “Be Nice” friend:
Yesterday she knocked on the door, apologized for not calling first, and asked if she could rant about something (topic unimportant). Enid & I were both home and listened attentively while she ranted. Then she apologized for "not being nice."
It was a stellar moment - I told her being nice is way overrated, and she could always be her authentic self with us, and that we much preferred that she not be nice but rather honest. She was so grateful she teared up a little. She raised 8 children in a blended family, so she probably did say “be nice” to her kids a
lot. But I bet she won’t say it to me again.
If she does, I’ll just say, “No”.
Karen in Virginia
p.s. Yesterday I left breakfast early, went to and left watercolor painting after a few minutes, and did not go to the theater to see the Saturday movie, all because of Heather’s post on being nice. I realized I was in no mood to make small talk, be insulted by the watercolor instructor, or sit in a theater before and after a movie being nice to other people. So I stayed home, read, took the dogs for walks, listened to my music, cleaned the kitchen, had my moment with Santa, and all in all had a lovely day.

Morning all! Surprise second post of the week/weekend!
Yesterday morning, as I was on my way to do the grocery shop, I hit a turkey! I was traveling at about 45 mph (the speed limit on that particular road) and this turkey just "flew" in front of me. Stupid bird! Anyway, he made quite the impact in my front bumper of my car. We have a $500 deductible then the insurance will pay for it. Thank God, bc it will cost well over $1000 to repair. Who knew a bird could cause that much damage!? Thank God there are no ostriches around here! The turkey didn't make it, by the way. My DH (who I expected to be in a bad mood) got in a good joke out of it. He sent me a text that said, "Here is your proof that you aren't a red-neck. A red-neck would have brought the dead turkey home and fixed it for dinner!"
Tracey- It never even occurred to me that ADHD symptoms would be different for females/males! I have long wondered if I had undiagnosed ADHD as a child. I had issues with forming connections/relationships, I was horribly disorganized/messy but it didn't feel disorganized to me, I was not a good student, I had problems with authority, as a teen, I was social for a while then would just shut down, and I read. I read a lot and all of the time. As an adult, I make a concerted effort to NOT get books that I want to read. I could read (and will do so if I have the books) to the detriment of everything else. I get to a place where I CAN NOT begin any other activity until I finish this book. I am this way with series on streaming services. (So I try really hard not to start any new series when I have things that need to get done) If I am watching a series, I HAVE to finish it before I can begin any other chore. While I was out shopping yesterday, I stopped in the book section of the store just to "look-see" at what was out and looked good. So many books I would have loved to have been reading. Good thing books are quite pricey; I didn't get any of them, though they all looked interesting to me.
Lisa- Your description of the prism as it pertains to people/people on the spectrum brought me up short! I love prisms and use them with the kids quite a bit; but never made that type of connection. I think you could compare it to people in general. The prism being life. We all enter as the light. What we become coming out the other side of life/the prism, can be very different than the person next to us. And the multitude of differences are there, though some differences might be unseen (for now); but we all begin as light. Perfect.
Freezers, food/supply hoarding I have long wanted a chest freezer, or extra fridge and freezer for my childcare business. I am sure I will get one either this year or next. Just the one in the kitchen will hold only one weeks worth of food for my childcare kiddos and my family. If I have extra family around or there is a family function we are attending, there is no room to hold "extra" food that needs to be made or kept. Regarding the hoarding...or as I like to call it; stockpiling. My hubby began doing this during covid. I have to admit, stockpiling some items really came in handy then, as I was still working and feeding/caring for other people. The extra tp, kleenex, cleaning products got used up quickly. HOWEVER, I still have cans of soup, fruit, veg in my basement that DH bought in his moments of panic. I do keep an eye on the expiration dates, though and will rotate things out of the basement and into the pantry to be used. Recently, DH is beginning to panic at the thought of the economy tanking and has begun to prepare for the end of the world again. Good thing I know how to kill turkeys. We will never starve!
Heather I saw the IG post! The pic is lovely and you are an inspiration to many with how you care for yourself through your hobbies and daily activities!
Well, I better get busy! I have a bit of paperwork to do and the sun is shining, so I really want to get some yard work done. I don't want to do too much, bc I don't want to be too sore to lift babies tomorrow. Tomorrow is a four baby day. I find it odd that I have to pace myself, now. Just five years ago, I could spend the weekend doing and going full tilt and be just a little achy on Monday. Just recently, this year, my joints seem to be rebelling against this type of energy/movement. Sucks. ttfn xoxoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

"The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials."---Lin Yutang
This wise saying might be part of the reason that my freezer is organized (I serve simple meals and buy intentionally for what I always prepare). I don't have annoying friends because I don't waste my time with people who complain, tell me how to live my life, or annoy me in other ways. It's not a recipe for everyone, but living intentionally has avoided clutter in a lot of areas of my life both physically and emotionally.
I am extra delighted that I got outside to work yesterday because today it is cloudy and drizzly and will be fine for walking but not yard work.

KJ - Good grief, woman, I'm glad the turkey wasn't "flying" at windshield height! Glad you've got insurance, too, I'm sure the damage was relatively extensive. On the subject of prisms and the spectrum, colors tend to trigger my own sense of order, which I don't think rises to the heighth of ADHD, but is very specific--colors have to be in order in my quilts, ROYGBIV. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Also in my pillboxes - I painted the little plastic boxes of days of the week with markers to match the spectrum, as well. Things like that make me happy, and are discomforting if out of order. This is an image of my "crystal ball." It's just faceted glass, but when I keep it in my kitchen window, the morning sun casts rainbows all over the kitchen. I dragged this thing all over the world, I've had it for more than 40 years! I have a very few things that made all the different places I've lived feel like home to me, and my crystal ball is one of them. Light is so important to me in so many ways. Thinking about it in terms of people and the light we bring also makes me happy.

KJ We had a chest freezer when our kids were in middle school. Our daughter was looking for something in the chest freezer and fell in. Luckily, I heard it. I got my daughter off to school on time. Then I dragged the beast to the driveway and put a “FREE” sign on it. It disappeared & I never bought another chest freezer. We replaced the beast with two upright freezers that we kept in the garage. I bought a refrigerator with a freezer in the bottom for the kitchen. No-one has ever fallen into a freezer at our place again. 😉

Edie is here. We have all painted ceramic heart dishes, and then DH and she tried some calligraphy. It was all going well until she spilt the ink. Luckily, we had a PVC covering over the table! After that I loaned her my italic felt tips.
Now they are playing Pictionary in the study.
My son is coming at 5 to take her to swimming classes, so I fed her at 4. Didn't want her to be swimming hungry!
I'm trying to draw/paint a picture of my son and DDIL, facing each other, inspired by this picture. I've done my son's half, but I need a profile pic of DDIL.
This is the inspiration pic.
The vase is by Lucy Rie, my favourite potter.
I've done quite a lot of clearing up today! But it's worth it.

Karen- my dad's "urn" is one of the bird houses that he built- He loved to build them and made MANY with a lot more that are cut that we will build and give away/put up around the property.
It is perfect for him. The great part is that the lady at the mortuary is the one that suggested it. She knew dad and asked mom if she had thought about that. It sits on her roll top desk for now.
MIL is now saying she wants to bury her other son(her favorite)'s ashes. He has been dead 11 yrs and his ashes sat on the filing cabinet, with flowers(was fresh and now silk) and for a LONG time a new glass of ice water every morning.
I told dh he needs to wait to bury him. She can't change her mind after it is done. She changes her mind about everything just about daily. He told her he plans on burying Albert when she dies- bury them together in the plot his dad is at. Sad but then the two people who treated Louis the worst will be buried right with him. I think we should make a trip back to Japan and bury them there- her and Albert were both born there.4 -

ACTIVE APRIL
1.Commit to being more active this month starting today. I commit to this by adding the exercises from the 6 minute book for over 60’s.22. Enjoy moving to your favorite music. Really go for it. Going to try to remember to do this. Forgot.
2. Spend as much time as possible outdoors today. Easy! LOL
3. Listen to your body and be grateful for what it can do. I do this during walking meditations every day.
4. Eat healthy and natural food today and drinks lots of water. Yogurt and raspberries for breakfast with 17 oz water bottle and coffee, more to come.
5. Turn a regular activity into a playful game today. Not sure. Joked with hairdresser while getting hair cut. Everyone was laughing and joining in.
6. Do a body-scan meditation and really notice how your body feels. I do this often in my meditations.
7. Get natural light early in the day. Dim the lights in the evening. Morning done. Will do in evening.
8. give your body a boost by laughing or making someone laugh. I will as soon as I can! Did this with friends.
9. Turn your housework or chores into a fun form of exercise. Hmmmm tbd
10. Have a day with less screen time and more movement. I’ll try.
11. Set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge. Already have goals: Yoga 10 mins 3 times a week, Walk 7,000 every day, 6 min HIIT -2x a day, Arm weights twice a week
12. Move as much as possible, even if you’re stuck inside. I will do. Vet this morning then normal day, so will be able to do this.
13. Make sleep a priority and go to bed in good time. Easy Peasy!
14. Relax your body & mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation. I will meditate and try to find time for yoga too. I did all I wanted to do.
15. Get active by singing today (even if you think you can’t sing). I can’t sing but will sing along with music anyway. Sang “When the ants go marching in” during my walk.
16. Go exploring around your local area and notice new things. OOOH, this sounds like fun.
17. Be active outside. Dig up weeds or plant some seeds. I will tend my container garden. I have watered it but need to remove dead leaves from tomato plants.
18. Try a new online exercise, activity or dance class. Not sure if I will have time today. Did not have time today.
19. Spend less time sitting today. Get up and move more often. After the last 2 days, this is a welcome change!
20. Focus on eating ‘a rainbow of multi-colored vegetables today. I did that on Tuesday but will try again today.
21. Regularly pause to stretch and breathe during the day. Ahhhhh. But forgot to do it.
23. Go out and do an errand for a loved one or neighbor. I do this every day in my hosting.24. Get active in nature. Feed the birds or go wild-life spotting.
25. Have a ‘no screens’ night and take time to recharge yourself.
26. Take an extra break in your day and walk outside for 15 minutes
27. Find a fun exercise to do while waiting for the kettle to boil (or pan of water.)

Today I'm 56 and have been a lil spoiled, well alot. It's so hard to have the motivation I need. Oh well, guess I can start another day.
Happy Birthday! I've had to change my mindset in regards to healthy eating. It's a way of life, not a diet. So, one day does not change my lifestyle... it's just part of my life. I would not reject the love offerings of my family for one day!
