I am a social person. The pandemic nearly killed me. I was so used to always being on the go and with people. To suddenly not have that! I even cleaned the top of my freezer, I was so bored. Pulled EVERYTHING out of the closets, went thru a lot (I even had to take things to the recycling place I had so much). Thank goodness the Salvation Army was open so I could make donations and donations.
Cut the grass, then helped Vince with the garden hose hide-away that I got. We needed to put the new one on the side of the house (since it’s metal and the side of the house doesn’t get direct sunlight) and the one that was on the side of the house in the front, since that one is plastic and the front of the house gets a lot of sun. Was too tired to go for a walk after dinner.
Don't ask me to explain it, but it hurts on the right side of my chest when I breathe in. I'm wondering if I pulled a muscle. I don't want to say anything to Vince just yet because it'll make him feel bad that I was doing most of the lifting (like the gas can for the tractor, putting the lawn mower away, etc)
Think I’ll probably start to get to bed. I’m bushed.

I went shopping with my daughter and grandson today. I purchased two hummingbird feeders. They are quite different from those I’ve used before and I will see how they do.
I also bought sugar. Next step is to dissolve sugar in water and fill the feeders. I hope the birds will find my feeders and I will be able to watch them at my windows.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well here in Illinois, and I will enjoy watching the little birds. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

On the topic of cats. The ones at the shelter are feral and I have not attempted to pet them. They do not come up to me or try and interact with me. They certainly watch me. How do you think I should go about trying to touch one of them?
I have found that even with cooking dinner my hardest time of the day is between 5pm and 7pm. I get very depressed and tired during this time. I do play music sometimes which helps. Sometimes I nap. Usually I get a second wind and pull out of it.

softly talk to them. Don't push to try and touch them too soon, they will let you know when they are ready. They will slowly, or not so slowly come up to you.

Never made it outside. Did work paperwork all day-ugh! Feeling accomplished but not caught up yet. Dh even cleaned up dinner for me.
I always thought I was social, but work takes too much from me these days. I do miss the days of sitting in someone's living room or porch and just talking sometimes.
Eating....I am rarely hungry before 11 am. Then I snack lots if I don't eat well. I do eat dinner as DH is a dinner eater, but really would prefer 1 large meal earlier in the day. When on vacation we usually eat light brunch around 10ish, then dinner around 430. Perfect! I sleep better and don't gain weight. I have never been a good eater. My mom literally starts salivating about food, I just want it to look and taste good when I am hungry. I do have to watch low blood sugar though. Eating out doesn't help with weight for sure!
Lisa I agree. Caring for me is my biggest challenge.
Better get some sleep.

Just got home.
Nice to see mom and really enjoyed spending time with my aunt. She is dad's last surviving sibling out of the ten kids. She is 83 and has some health problems but is doing pretty good. I promised her to see her each time I go up to mom's.
Not one thing got planted in the green house and that is ok. We got it cleaned up, some of the flats filled, the hot boxes ready.
While I was gone, dh put together my new little greenhouse so we will pick up potting soil tomorrow(already ordered/payed for/ and ready for curbside pickup). If it doesn't rain tomorrow, I will get some planting started.
Had a great turnout at the church for the food bank food program. We served 190 families. Love helping but really not a fan of the super early hours. Mom's alarm went off at 3:15 and 3:30. Got into the church at 4:45. Got her part set up then sat around for the truck to deliver the rest of the stuff at 6 then the work really started. Back was hurting but felt good to see how they all appreciate it.
Mom took a long nap but I don't nap. That is when I went and started cleaning the greenhouse. I know not to do too much.
A friend messaged mom after I left, asking if he can come out and help plant- hope they get some stuff done. She said she is planning on planting the full front garden, which my nephew is coming from CO to work the ground for her at the end of the month.
Now I will have a cup of decaf tea and try and catch up on what all of you have been doing this weekend. 7 pages to catch up on

Annie - sounds like things are A-OK with the roofers. The fact that they don't require an up front deposit they can abscond with is a good sign they aren't scammers. One thing I like about FB is that on the local groups, if someone has a bad experience with a contractor, it gets posted. There are many things I don't like about FB but this is a plus.
I agree, that "Wendie" plan does sound a little like intermittent fasting.
About fasting & eating breakfast & three meals a day.....
I went down another fasting rabbit hole yesterday. Dr. Valter Longo, who was featured with Dr. Michael Mosley in the Eat, Fast and Live Longer BBC documentary, is saying in recent interviews that according to his research, a person should never skip breakfast. Folks who skip breakfast don't live as long as folks who skip dinner (supper) when fasting. (He does get kind of wiggly and says part of this may be due to genetics - some people are just programmed to live longer no matter how they eat.) Longo also advises seniors not to fast longer than 12 hours.
I ran across others who said similar, even Dr. Jason Fung, who admits skipping supper is not practical however, and he personally skips breakfast - doesn't eat until late morning. His push is for the insulin drop to mediate insulin resistance and healing by eating in a smaller window.
My parents and grandparents always ate breakfast. Three meals a day, hardly ever snacking as I recall.
Farmers needed energy to get going in the morning, and they were hungry when they first got up. As I've mentioned, females in my family gained weight around the middle as they aged, but it didn't seem detrimental as they lived into their late 80's - mid 90's. They ate a lot of dairy, meat and eggs since those foods were readily available = mega protein.
I had a pretty high protein supper yesterday, stopped eating at 4 and was fine - no hunger during the night. Got up at 4 this morning and by 5, I was hungry and ready for breakfast. So 13 hours "fasting". I managed about 20 gm of protein.
I'm curious - as a general rule, do you ladies eat breakfast? Three meals a day? Which meal is your biggest - lunch? supper? In whatever schedule you are using, are you dropping the weight you want to? Happily maintaining whatever weight you feel best at (or within that pesky 5 lbs?) If you are doing time restricted eating, do you find skipping breakfast or skipping supper works better?

I rarely eat breakfast and haven't for decades. The last time I remember eating breakfast regularly was probably in my late teens.
I have been slim and fit most of my life.
I had gained a bit of weight putting me into the overweight range by the end of 2014. In early 2015, I joined MFP and lost 25 kg that year ... and rarely ate breakfast as usual.
I kept the weight off till about mid-2018 after my husband's accident.
I am simply not at all hungry in the morning. It is very rare that I eat before 11 am and usually only when I have an early bicycle ride.
Also, on the occasions when I have eaten breakfast it's like a switch is turned on and I am starving hungry all day. I am significantly less hungry when I don't eat breakfast.
I eat 2 meals a day. Dinner is a bit larger than lunch.
M in Oz
A little more detail on my eating ...
When I go to work:
11:30 am - I have crackers and cheese (99 cal)
12:30 pm - I go out for a walk for an hour. Often I'm running errands or attending appointments, but sometimes I do the brisk walk thing and can cover almost 6 km.
2:00 pm - Lunch!
Rice, veggies, and either chicken or chickpeas (250 cal + 25 cal +87 cal = 362 cal) or (250 cal + 25 cal + 160 cal = 435 cal)
or
Between 3:30 and 5 pm - I'll have 1-3 snacks, depending on what exercise I've done at lunch and how hungry I am. These will be another one of the crackers and cheese (99 cal), or a low cal yogurt (60-70 cal), or fruit (50-100 cal)
SubTotal: about 700 cal.
Dinner is somewhere between 6:30 and 7:30 pm and is usually between about 500 and 700 cal.
SubTotal: 1200-1400 cal
And then we have ice cream in the evening, which I am going to have to reduce again because it is getting out of hand again.
When I was losing weight in 2015, I ate that, but instead of ice cream, I ate low-cal yogurt.
On the subject of losing weight, I gained weight at the beginning of March because we were on holiday and my eating plan went out the window.
Today, I am down 1 kg from where I was a couple weeks ago.

Regarding being social ...
Personally, I would like to work from home and spend most of my days well away from other people. I like to go outside - walking, cycling, etc. but prefer if there aren't people around. I am excited by online classes I can attend and learn things ... without the stress of having to go somewhere and be around people.
Of course, I can do the people thing if I have to, but it wears me out. So my work days wear me out because I'm surrounded by people from the moment I set foot on the bus until I return home ( about 9.5 hours). Evenings and weekends, I would happily see no one other than my husband. In fact, that's exactly what's happening this weekend. I have a 3-day weekend, thank goodness, and it is 3 days of no social activity.
However, my husband would like to be more social. He's more social than I am and he's at home alone all day. Rhody has helped to some extent and being busy in the garden helps, but he would like to be able to talk to more people.
So I am trying to figure out how to solve that problem.

Heather- your trips look lovely, the one im going on.I have been on the ship before
Its one of there older ships but they refurbished some of it in 2018.
They rake you over the coals for everything extra..Im not a big drinker so I will bring my Yeti, and drink whatever is free. I might break down and get a fru fru drink or 2,but they are charging 102.00 a day for the deluxe drink package so alcoholic drinks, soda, specialty coffees and teas fall into that category. Really who wants to spend over 700.00 to drink
Sheesh
We can bring on a 12 pack of soda which we will do
And we don't do the fancy dining room,we just do the buffet
when we go on our cruises we do not buy the drink package either. I drink seltzer or tea. The guys did buy one of the coffee cards for 15 specialty coffees.
We would eat breakfast and lunch at the buffet but dinners in the dining room(the one that was included, not the specialty/extra cost one). I loved the menu of amazing food that was also very healthy. I enjoyed some kind of seafood every single nights. The guys did get some specialty drinks at the bar a few times and we did try a lemoncello at dinner one night that was made on the ship(or so they said)-not my thing, smelled like lemon Pledge.
We did take sodas, a bottle of wine and some of the flavored water powders.
I am so looking forward to our next one.2 -
Question for you all ...
When you were young (under 20), what did you want to be when you grew up?
M in Oz
I was going to be a nurse at first, like my mother. But then I decided to be a teacher, like my father.
Although I do have a teaching degree (which I got in my early 40s), I work in data and enjoy that.
M in Oz
The only thing I wanted to be when I was in my teens/twenties/thirties- was a wife and mom. I truly didn't not want to do anything else. I went to college and got my degree to teach preschool which I did for many year(teaching in a school or doing daycare in my home). I did become a wife at 21 but didn't become a mom until I was 36 and that took a LOT of work/medical procedures/and finally adoption.

That is a great temporary solution. But water is not rich in collagen like bone broth is!

Is it possible for your husband to get a part time job where he can get out and be around people during the day. My sister in law has an adult foster care home and a few of her clients with different disabilities get picked up daily by a van from Adult and Social Services. They get to work for different businesses. When done they get picked back up and dropped off. They love going to work and feeling useful. They get paid for their work as well.

Feeling a bit stiff and tired today. Think it's because on our late afternoon dog walk yesterday, DD noticed what at first she thought were Deer in the field near where we walk. She said I could swear they were horses, looks like Dotty and Sweetie. Didn't think anymore about it until on the way back she said - it is Dotty and Sweetie what they doing out of their stables! To cut a (very) long story short, somehow two horses had escaped, Heather phoned L their owner and then spent the next two and a half hours chasing the silly horses around the woods and farm area. They were finally caught in a neighbours field and walked back to their stables. I was hanging around with Leah, keeping out of the way so we wouldn't scare the horses. I was so glad to get home, I was tired just waiting about walking up and down in the woods, poor Heather and L were exhausted trying to catch them. They are quite new horses to the farm and don't know the area that well yet which made it more difficult. I'm sure if it had been two of the other horses they would have been easier to catch.
Slept okay, but feel stiff and tired, well I am a year older now
Going to do my exercises before I talk myself out of it.
Before I go Machka I normally eat breakfast but the last few weeks I've not really been hungry (but eaten it anyway) so I am trying now to wait until I feel hungry which is usually around 10am 10:30am. I'm also experimenting with having a late lunch/dinner and then only having a snack around tea time. I never have supper. One of the things I don't like about eating out with friends on an evening is that I hate to go to bed on a full stomach, I'd much rather go out for lunch then not eat anything for the rest of the day. I'm still trying to work this out and listen to my body rather than go by the clock.
Take care and love to all

Well started the morning off with Cranky Carmine coping attitude at mom.
I told him I would pick him off the bus for our hair appt ,and he snapped at his mom..he has the opportunity to stay after for extra help on Tuesdays and Fridays ,since he is failing all his classes.
So he will be staying after Friday..so after that Tracy took the phone away for the day as he just has a nasty attitude.3 -

Hello all! Happy Monday!
Machka's question: What did I want to be when I was young (under 20)?
From the time I was 12 years old and learned a few words of French; I wanted to be an interpreter with the UN. So much so, that I began formal french lessons, took french classes in school, then also took Spanish (3 years) and German (2 years). Senior year, I was told to apply for the foreign language scholarship (4 years paid tuition at a private college), but I was so burned out from school and angry that I would also have to take classes that I despised, like math and science. So, I didn't apply. The boy who got the scholarship (4 years of spanish and 1 yr of French), went on and has used his language talents his whole life for his career in business. So, it all worked out.
Cats- I have never considered myself a cat person. I was terrified of them as a kid. My sister always had a cat and I never liked them due to the fact that they were wildly unpredictable and would attack my feet and legs all of the time. That said, when I went to visit my sister in FL a few years back, I pretty much ignored her older cats and they ignored me, except early in the mornings, when I would be the first one up. I would fix myself a cup of coffee, put some food in their dish and fill their water, then go out and sit on the lanai. The cats would come out of their "nest" and one would plop down on my feet as I sat, and the other would creep onto my lap. Both purring and content while I sipped my coffee. It was quite nice. Maybe I am an older cat person. Both cats passed within two years after that visit and I have to say I was quite sad.
Lanette- Great video on the starches! I eat a lot of acidic foods and I tend to put lime or lemon on my rice/pasta. Mmmm. My DH doesn't like acidic foods. He likes fresh tomato slices on sandwiches, but doesn't care for citrus, pickled anything, vinegar-y sauces or dressings, yogurt, buttermilk, he is even weird about honey, if it has a "tang" to it. His gut health is HORRIBLE. A lot of digestive issues and sugar/insulin issues.
I will have to wait to reply to the others that I wanted to chat with. DH just interrupted this post with a 15 minute monologue on the "state of the nation". I now have kids arriving. *sigh* ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
Have a GREAT day!0 -
Lanette, I usually eat a light breakfast with some kind of protein around 10am. Lunch is salad and sandwich around 2pm. Early supper at about 5:30. If I snack it is usually an apple with peanut butter or popcorn. My weight is stable .. if I begin to gain, I cut back on portions and drop the gain. On the cruise I gained 2.5 lbs but when I came home and went back to my eating routine, I dropped the gain. I need to include protein with every meal... cheese, sardines, peanut butter, greek yogurt, chicken, nuts... and I try to stay away from sugar and empty carbs. Dinners are often soups.

Happy Birthday Lisa :flowerforyou:
Kelly our guts do influence what we like to eat. It does not surprise me that your DH has the health issues he has with his food preferences. Perhaps he needs to think of food as medicine to get his gut working better. A few years ago I mentioned the book Eating on the Wild Side. One of the author's points was that our veggies are being bred to appeal to our love of a sweet taste. Unfortunately the more bitter a vegetable tastes it is often better for us because of the nutrients it contains. If it is sweeter you know it will contain more sugars.
I like my bitter veggies like Brussel sprouts. I like to add apple cider vinegar to my recipe for bone broth give it a tang and Mary it helps draw out the calcium and our goodies the bones have in them. I make my own broth too Mary. I Make it for DrewB and me. I also like Kombucha that has a vinegary tang. I have introduced it to some friends who have been on antibiotics and it is too bitter for them. I really wish my friend who was just diagnosed with lung cancer after that first gave her a round of antibiotics because they wanted to rule out an infection first liked Kombucha. She didn't. Unfortunately her first choice is something sweet. I had to bite my tongue when I learned antibiotics were given to someone with cancer with no follow up to help her gut recover. She has enough to process with her diagnosis and all the medical procedures that have followed.
Carla We lost power for two hours in the night so it didn't affect us very much. No big branches fortunately only small ones. A couple trees fell into a street nearby from the woods that are down the street from us. Hopefully we are done with snow! The 50 had yesterday felt wonderful!4 -
Promise, that's the last pic of DH and his nephew.
When they went to the pizza restaurant, DH dropped his keys and cap in the toilets. Someone handed in the keys, but kept the hat!!!! That's the second cap he has had stolen!
We had Edie today. Usual chaos! But we had a great time. She decided DH should make her a rabbit, and she made the cover and pillow. She also sewed Max's flamingo back together.
Edie is stuffing the rabbit.
I made a snowman for the Christmas tree. 🎄
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA!!! 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊
Exhausted now. Just have to gear up for Bea tomorrow!
