Good evening ladies!
Pip I hope Lucy gets well soon.
Debbie what a lovely greenhouse!
Barbara we are trying to train my dad to take his phone with him. Mixed results so far. But I think he's got some time to go before he gets lost.
Today I ate 1104 calories Yay! And I had a deficit of 475. Yay! It was a good day. I stayed on the plan even when my aunt came over to visit. I skipped the cookies, and did my mango shake and fish filet after she left. Yay!
My aunt had a bad day. She is 88 and she is a full-time caretaker for my uncle who is 95 and needs a lot of help. There are some helpers that come to the house, and my cousin lives there too, but my aunt does all the laundry and cooking and more. There will come a day when she can't do it anymore, and that will be very tough.

But then you read the contract and the small print, those with underlying conditions etc and seniors are discouraged .. so thats out. And I already did the bus ride through. Maybe I'll stay on the ship .thats when its nice and quiet anyway lol.3

Katla – how wonderful that you’re making your new home like your last. Adding the hummingbird feeders is wonderful! I’m sure the birds will find the feeders in no time at all
I try to have a breakfast before I go to work, usually something with protein. This morning I had steel cut oats that I had soaking overnight in a protein drink and some cold cereal. Right now I am not hungry at all. I’m thinking I’ll have that tomorrow but also add in some chicken breast.
Lisa – happy birthday!
Barbara – it’s not a done deal that we are going to Bristol. But I think it will happen. The guy to do the excavating should be here tomorrow. It’ll be a multi-day project and barring any unforeseen expenses, I think we’ll go. Will keep you all informed. I was in shorts yesterday but not today (boo) Tomorrow probably
I can’t remember the last time we went out for dinner for my birthday, or any holiday, for that matter. The restaurants are usually really packed for the holiday and, like Lisa, I just can’t justify the money for a restaurant meal when I can make something just as good (if not better)
Just found out that Jess isn’t oncall Easter, so it looks like I’ll be making Easter dinner. Tomorrow while the guy is here doing the excavating I’ll probably make up the menu and shopping list.
Went to ceramics tonight. The gal who runs it is getting a divorce so she gave me her wedding dress to give to the Green Room. Honestly, I don’t know that they want it but maybe they can use the material. She just doesn’t want the reminder.

Yes you are probably right. Husband just dreams like I do, that we could be in a situation where we could walk to pick Athena for school, or be there for them if they wanted to go out to dinner. Plus they could have a bigger house with a yard etc.

Ginny looking back I wonder what prompted Joe to take that solo vacation. Communication has never been our strong suit. It never came up in our counseling. I’m just grateful for how things worked out.
Terri reprieve, yay, but that’s a heck of a birthday present :{
Margaret we got snow again this morning. Unheard of in April here on the Oregon Coast. Fortunately only a couple of inches and gone already, good think as we left the snow shovel in Idaho.
Michele “shorts” I am soooo envious. So glad you and Vince talked it out and you’re going to Bristol.
Tracey your mug and coaster are beautiful, you really have the gift. Michaela’s telling stories with her drawings. Another gift.
Annie that sounds so scary. Is there any way you could slip a tracker/phone into your dad’s pocket?
Rita I’m envious of your Italian herb garden, but practically we have neither the sun nor the warmth. Best I can do is lettuce, snow peas, radishes and carrots, soon as its pleasant enough to get out there.
Rebecca would you remind me what your middle son is studying and when he’s scheduled to graduate?
Mary how much bone broth how often?
Katla I’m overjoyed to read you bought hummingbird feeders and hope the season and hummers come soon!
Like Rosemarie and Kylia my energy nosedives around 1pm. Yesterday was able to drag my nap-wanting body outside to walk the dogs toward the neighbor’s and down to the powerline meadow. Perked me up enough to finish the matzoh roca (yum), and bake a couple batches of Passover chocolate chip cookies. Let my attention wander and burned the last tray. Won’t be making them again, the texture is gritty and the matzoh flavor pronounced. Hope my goddaughter feels free to trash ‘em if the hubby and kids don’t like them.
Lanette I have tea with sugar around seven, breakfast (yoghurt or cottage cheese with fruit) in the 10:30-11 range, and biggest meal around four pm. If I have wine with that meal, I end up overdoing. Weight has been stable at 25 pounds over goal but started inching down this year. Like Machka and Debbie, starting the day with carb heavy breakfast makes me feel like I’m have to eat everything that isn’t nailed down.
2. Spend as much time as possible outdoors (yesterday. Path to neighbor’s and dogs to powerline.
3. Listen to your body and be grateful for what it can do. Got it, time for PT04/01: Move: dogs to powerline steps, 2 sets PT w/D. steps:4228
Fuel: plants running count for week so far: 8 lettuce-spring mix, maple syrup, onion soup, peanut sauce, soy breakfast patty, tangerine, tea, wheat-sourdough, CI =1631
Live: Joe, readings, BP, Tumble dematting, pesach choc chip batter, mise en place matzoh roca. Wt: 133.6
04/02: Move: dogs to neighbor path and powerline meadow steps:4217
Fuel: plants running count for week so far: 8+6= apple, beans-garbanzo, beets, cucumber, lettuce-spring mix, maple syrup, onion soup, peanut sauce, radish, romaine, soy breakfast patty, tangerine, tea, wheat-sourdough, CI =1259
Live: Joe, readings, BP, church, baked half the choc chip cookies, finished the matzoh roca. Wt:135.1
Lighter, lovelies!

I’ve been having fun rearranging my place. I have one more item to get and then I’ll be able get the hummingbird feeder ready to go. 😊 I hope it will work, and the birds will find the feeder.

Heather - The mugs and coasters are made using a sublimation process. The items are coated in a special coating and you use what is called infusible ink for the design. It is then heated and they combine. The ink is similar to glazes in pottery, you are never 100% sure what colour they will be.
My grandchildren have very sarcastic, funny, parents and they have encouraged them from birth to speak their truths in kind and respectful ways. Both kids are sarcastic, funny and so sweet and kind all at once.
I can’t wait to see what Edie and Johnny make. I bet it will be beautiful, and they will have so much fun learning together.
I glad you got to have a little visit with DH’s family. Like you, I like to be in control too and I get anxious when I’m not even included in the planning.
Lisa - My grandmother enjoyed hummingbirds too. It’s funny how we are drawn to things our loved ones loved. My Dad loved sunsets and rainbows. I hope you have a better week and no brain fog.
Your Egg sounds like the dog Jeb I am watching stubborn.
Lanette - I have never enjoyed eating when I first wake up. I love breakfast foods but at lunch or supper time. The paragraph about your parents grandparents explains mine as well. They were not farmers but all worked with their hands in one form or other. My maternal grandmother was a tiny lady, she weighed weekly and if she went over 110 she would eat grapefruit for breakfast that week and would have smaller meals. She lived to 95. My Dad’s side of the family the women all had thinker waists as they aged. They all dropped it before they passed. They lived into their 90’s as well.
My Mom has battled her weight all my life and is currently the largest I’ve ever seen her. She went into the nursing home in Dec 2017 weighing 160. She is currently 260, had been up to 289 at one point.
I worry about her, she has fallen four times because she is too heavy, her legs, ankles and butt are still very small.
Machka - I’m the same. When I eat breakfast I want to eat all day!
Carla - I am not the biggest dog fan, but I have never seen a more stubborn, frustrating dog in my life. My cousin had mules and I think he could teach them lessons. All the while he wants hugs and love too.
Rebecca - I bet you would love being closer to Athena and the new baby. I can’t imagine being further away from my Grands. It has allowed me to have a great relationship with them.
My eldest daughter has a dream of us all live on the same property. I grew up with my grandparents on the same property and I absolutely loved it. However, as an adult I can see where there were maybe some difficulties for the adults. They could never make a move without the other knowing about it.
I think I would like a block or two away at least.
I am trying to catch up, but for some reason the app isn’t allowing me to change pages.
I’ll get it eventually I’m sure.

Pip DrewB struggles with anemia. My vet told me the test to find out if it caused by an auto immune condition would cost $200 and even if the test comes back negative there is a 50% chance she could still have it. I chose not to do the test but to go about finding ways to help her as if she had it. This is when I found the Pet Summit where I learned about alternative diets, requesting a titer the next time she is due for a rabies shot, alternatives to Flea and Tick Meds and Heartguard.
Her diet has 10% raw liver everyday. No more than that to prevent too much Vit D. I also give her an ester Vit C supplement to help with absorption or iron. Dogs don't normally need extra Vit C but because of her condition she does. They do not take the same kind of Vit C we do. Her last vet visit her numbers were better but still not completely normal. She is due for a follow up soon. She is doing much better than she was a year ago.
I just did not want to go down the steroid and blood transfusion route that is typically prescribed for this condition.6 -

Good morning! Preparing for Bea's visit today. Don't know if she'll want to do painting, paper play, or sewing. Or maybe just playing board games with DH. Her favourite thing at the moment is playing Swashbuckle on my tablet. I have some ideas for line drawings I found on Instagram.
Later this afternoon I have Zoom with my girlfriends. P's son got married last weekend with a big, smart, fanfare. (She was over forty when she had him) I expect we will hear about that.
Of course, I have just had to relax about not writing this week and treat it as a holiday. I'm a little anxious about the Easter Egg Hunt that my son wants us to host, as DH has got to think of the clues and he is going to be at cricket from Thursday, when I'm going out for lunch with Max. DH is giving up his cricket on Easter Sunday for the kids.
I'm sure it will all work out perfectly. Bea still believes in the Easter Bunny.
Rebecca - no reason you shouldn't be a bit nearer them. I know you are stretched financially, but a small house might be OK. Our distance is fine. About 30 mins walk. It's important that they have their complete independence without their parents breathing down their neck. When we were looking at houses here, my son said, "Not too near. I don't want to run across you by accident in the local bakery!" We are very careful not to interfere with their lives.
I really ought to make the trip up to see my elder son. I haven't seen him in person for 2 years! I see and hear him all the time on the media, but we rarely speak. A text is as far as it goes. It's all fine, but I'm beginning to think I ought to get myself up to Nottingham. I normally stay at a city centre hotel for one night near the station, and visit their house in the outskirts by tram for aperitif and go out for dinner. Then I fall in a taxi!
DDIL has a new book coming out in the next couple of months. She is having a launch party in May at one of my son's previous venues. It's a Tuesday, so I don't know if we will be taking Bea with us on the bus. I have to admit here that I am a little bit envious. The subject she is writing about, recovery after trauma, is very similar to my new one, though with a very different slant.
I can hear the glass bottles being collected outside, so time to make a cup of tea.

I rarely eat breakfast. I have my tea( at least 2 cups) when I get up but don't usually feel hungry and I had been waiting until I got home from my walk and picking up my daycare girl from school at 1;10 to have my first meal.
I talked to the nutritionist and she said I am not loosing any weight because my metabolism is too low. I need to eat a little in the morning to break the fast and get it going. It needs to be a protein and fiber, like a piece of cheese and some whole wheat crackers. She is not telling me a calorie number to stay at (I stay at 1000-1100 most days)
My problem is that if I do eat first thing in the morning, I am hungry all day and snack/eat too much.
One thing I know I can not do is have any kind of sweets in the morning. I start feeling sick just minutes after if I do. My body telling me I shouldn't be eating it-(pre-diabetic).
_____
The nutritionist’s advice is good for people without insulin resistance.
I am insulin resistant, and if you are, too, your insulin resistance is highest in the morning like mine is. Your experience with sweets in the morning certainly seems consistent with insulin resistance.
In that case, walking and drinking tea (black) and waiting to break your fast is a better idea than crackers and cheese first thing in the morning.
Maybe you are already at a good weight for your height, Debbie. Could that be possible? Do you feel comfortable sharing more specific information about your height & weight?
Using a food scale can be very enlightening. A tablespoon of olive oil should weigh 13.3 grams, for example.
Also, packages of processed food have to contain at least the weight listed on a box. This means that a single serve package may well contain more food (and more calories) than one would think.
Finally, take tree nuts for example. Equating an ounce of nuts with a number of nuts (23 almonds per ounce) is an estimate. Nuts vary in size, some more than others (Brazil nuts, e.g.)
I had a client whose weight was consistent his entire adult life. He rarely snacked. He broke his fast at 10:30 am and had his second meal at 4:30 pm. He was physically active and chose happiness. He cherished his wife. A true role model.

Question for you all ...
When you were young (under 20), what did you want to be when you grew up? M in Oz- Debt free! My mother lived her life ‘on tick’ despite my father earning a good wage. He was very miserly to everyone but himself. I was determined that I wouldn’t have the struggles she had.
- Happily married. I kissed a few frogs before finally finding my prince. We will celebrate our 57 wedding anniversary in July.
- Self-supporting: (see #1 above). I wanted to be an ice skater for a while in my early teens, but realised that it wasn’t a good way to earn a living. I wanted to follow my brother into grammar school, but didn’t have parental support for that as I was a girl. I was good at maths and business studies at school, so I eventually settled on office work. After I was married, my ambitions were encouraged by my in-laws, and I decided to go to college and become a teacher. Best decision I ever made.

Liver is a rich source of 4 fat soluble vitamins: A, D, E, and K; A & D are the most potentially toxic. There are tales of Antarctic explorers who got sick or died after eating polar bear liver.1 -

I would not like living with either my family or my husband's family. I wouldn't mind being a bit closer to my parents but I'm not sure I would even want to live in their immediate neighbourhood.
One thing to keep in mind is that your son, with his family, is a different person from your son growing up with you.
I did move back in with my parents when I was in my late 30s, while I was getting my Bachelor of Education, and we struggled with that. For a while, my parents assumed I was the same person I was when I left home in my early 20s.
I'm actually slightly apprehensive about the possibility of visiting my parents in Canada again at some point in the next few years. It's been so long and so much has happened.

Thank you so much for the kind good wishes. I jumped at the chance of finally having the surgery. It’s a very simple procedure, but waiting lists are years long, so I am very grateful for the early slot, despite the fact that it’s on my birthday.
Lisa: Belated Happy birthday
Tracey: 😍 the mugs/coaster combo
Lanette: I eat a light breakfast between 9 and 11 am plus lunch and dinner. I have an afternoon coffee break with fruit. I track my food on MFP and keep CI<CO. I do about 60 minutes daily intentional exercise, usually in short bursts throughout the day. I’ve been maintaining for about 3 years.

Im here at Tracy's and she is getting ready for work..
Miles didn't sleep well so when she went to take Carmine to bus stop ,Miles walked over to me wanted me to pick him up and he laid his head on my shoulder and wanted to go to sleep..
Tracy got back and said he didn't sleep well,so I see an early nap in his future.3 -
Bea having a wonderful time! In the photo she is playing a board game that the kids devised. It involves a lot of physical actions, including hugging granny when you land on that square!
Every so often she gives us a tune on the piano. I had no idea she could play so well! She's only been doing it a short while, with the violin longer. They are in DH'S study.
It's great for me because I get loads of hugs, plus I got time to prepare tonight's cauliflower cheese and our lunches. So no rush after the Zoom.
Lunch time now.

I did not accomplish my goals for March really. I had hoped to be lighter at the end of the month, but what I really wanted to do was lose the extra 7 pounds gained in February ... I only lost 1. April goals will to be lighter at the end of the month than I am today.
Beth near Buffalo
Beth - This has stayed with me since I read it eight pages ago. It stuck because you tried to diminish your stress by taking a page out of my playbook, having your goal as "Be lighter," for March. And you WERE lighter. But you feel you failed because what you "really wanted to do was lose the extra 7 pounds." And that, my dear is exactly why I yanked myself off of that hamster wheel of losing specific amounts. You achieved your goal, and you were lighter at the end than the beginning! But somehow, you've found a way to beat yourself up for not losing enough anyway.
Stop that.
OK, back down off my soapbox. I've just been thinking about that for days. Hope you take it as it's meant, out of love for you and a hope for less stress and more serenity.
Love,
Lisa in AR

Good Tuesday!
Best part of yesterday.....my massage! It had been 6 weeks which is the longest I have been in many years. It felt so good! We were also busy at work so the day went quickly.
New ac/furnace install at the end of month.
Electrical heart doctor tomorrow morning. We will see what he has to say. I need to start walking again now that the weather is warmer and it is daylight after dinner. Have to wait for approval though. grumble....It isn't like I don't run my butt off at work, but DH is adamant about no exercise (strenous-haha) until I see Dr. Shah.
Better get my day going. Leave for work in 20 mins and still in robe.
Have a great day! Stay safe!

Allie when I went on my cruise, I only went on one port tour. In Columbia I went to the aviary because I love watching birds. At other port stops I often stayed on the ship and enjoyed the less commotion and quieter times. I even went in the pool and hot tubs because they weren't crowded with so many people off the ship.
Katla I'm guessing the hummingbirds will find your feeders with no problem. I love to watch the hummingbirds at my feeders. It's often more entertaining than the television.
Mary How much pickle juice do you drink to prevent leg and foot cramps? I love bone broth and use it for the base of all my soups and enjoy drinking it instead of water during the day...AND know you will enjoy Florida...enjoy the beach for all of us.
