WOOHOO Heather! So happy for you!
Heading into the last HUMPday. Wish me luck. Don't know if I've mentioned that I've had Hunter with me since Friday since his district ended and their childcare had a week off. Today is his last day. He's had a ball. 8-year-old in a middle school, hanging with a buncha BIG kids and doing some of their "things" on the last week of school. All of my hall-mates have been so wonderful. They've brought him into their classes when they have fun stuff going on. He's watch movies, shot off "bottle rockets", played outside with spanish class, even helped the custodian clean the halls!!! And he gets to eat lunch in the staff lunchroom. LOL. Certainly hasn't had time to be bored!

Here with Miles who didn't sleep well..so is a bit cranky..
Well you are right... you clean before they come to clean ,i was up until almost midnight tossing and turning and finally getting up and moving a few things..
Only thing I need to do is see if I can move my bed to my storage unit that has been sitting in the living room for 8 months.. i will only really need help with the head board. And then will take Alfie to Toms and go to Susans..3 -
Going to do my exercises now.

I wrote this as a response to one of the comments I read in Grow With Care today. It was quite the discussion about the use of pesticides and herbicides on lawns. I thought it important enough to repost it. When I taught I did an activity where I had the students mash up an oreo cookie in a bag to pretend it was soil. Then I gave them a gummy worm to put in their pretend soil. Next I took sprinkles and said we are going to pretend these are the chemicals we put on the yard to kill the weeds and grubs. Now pretend you are a bird who eats the worm. The sprinkles stick to the gummy worm. How are you as a bird going to get those chemicals off that will make you sick? They can't!!! We are the ones who need to protect the birds when they cannot. Do not use chemicals in the first place! I realize it was a sugary snack. The lesson I believe made it worth the sugar. I think about that activity, and it changed my habits for the better. One reason I eat organic fruits and veggies when I can. Still not perfect because of all the chemicals in our environment but they do contain less than non organic.7

We can learn your name in time. We respect your privacy. The reason I like to see a location is to be able to identify with weather and plants. I live pretty far north so when someone shares that they already have flowers or vegetables, I like to know how far south they are. When someone says that it's too hot to take a walk, I wonder where they live. I hope you'll share what you're comfortable with and ignore the rest.

I answer to Katiebug in only three places. Here, my living debt free message board, and to a few cousins who just won’t let it go. I try to stay unsearchable by my name on this board since I don’t share my weight loss struggles with many people, but anybody with minimal skills could find me. If they want to go to that much trouble, I wish them well. Because of the nature of my work, anyone with my real name can find my cell phone number and my email address with a few clicks. It is what it is. I have to be reachable by the people who need me.
I love your name, it is close to my very favorite nickname for my son. Jonabug. Still call him that and he is 25
Since I am older and wiser, I have come to love and appreciate the nickname. When I was a child I did not realize that adding bug to your name was pretty common as a sign of affection. All I knew was that my sister was “Vickie Doll” and I was “Katie Bug” i hated that my sister got to be a doll while I was a bug. Interestingly enough, in my father’s last months, he started calling me Katiebug again. He had not done so since I was a child. It was comforting.

Annie, I’m so sorry about your aunt. I hope the arrangements work out so that your father can go and your mother can be looked after.
Beth, prayers for your knees. I actually broke down and had mine evaluated yesterday. I was told that I will eventually need knee replacement, but we’re going to try shots first. I got cortisone shots in both yesterday, and the doctor is going to check with my insurance to see if it will pay for the rooster shots. He said they could be very helpful but he would not recommend paying out of pocket. I’m going back in a month. Meanwhile I continue with cutting back sugar and carbs and doing my calf raises and squats.
Katla, I’m so glad your new glasses are working out.
Re cleaning for the cleaner. As you all know, I love Dana K White. In her books and podcasts, she talks about the layers of a clean house. The first is decluttering until you have your house under control with a place for everything so that you can manage keeping it that way. Second is the dailies - dishes, laundry, quick pick-ups to put things away where they belong. Third is the actual cleaning - dusting, mopping, scrubbing toilets, etc. In my opinion. The only thing you should expect from a housecleaner is the 3rd one, especially if she is only coming a couple of times a month, or even weekly. My housecleaner comes every two weeks. Surfaces are clear of clutter and we pick up the throw rugs, wash or shake them and have them ready to go back down. We also scoop the litter box and empty our own trash. We take care of changing our own bedding, since we like that done weekly. As we get older and that gets harder, we will probably add it to her tasks.
7 -
Dr Katie - I agree. It's a waste of time and money to have the cleaner do daily stuff that you would do anyway. Ours comes every two weeks. Best money I ever spent.
I had five really interesting conversations today while I was going about getting my cast sorted. First one with the taxi driver, who broke his leg as a teenager and took over a year to heal
Second one with another patient who was having an operation on a finger. Turned out he was a builder in flint. He showed me beautiful pictures of his walls. I adore knapped flint walls.
Third one was with another patient who was a serious runner, doing Olympic type races. She had broken the bones in her hand in an important race.
Fourth one was with a mother on the bus home, whose 18 year old daughter was in the hospital with a benign brain tumour that had knocked out the adrenal glands.
Firth one was on the bus home from the shop, with a woman with a paralysed diaphragm.
All quite fascinating!
At the hospital I took the time to thank one of the nurse/porters for being so helpful to all of us, by regularly checking our names and telling us what was happening next and where we were in the queue. Marvellous! He was very happy to be thanked for his work.
Just about to start my second round of exercises. We have champagne in the fridge to celebrate my freedom.

Kay ~ I think you are very right about following Dana White's ways to keep your house tidy. Unfortunately, if you live in a household where the other partner loves to leave their mess all around, that is not an easy method to carry through. My husband has managed to strew his stuff all over every room in the house. Sometimes I want to cry over it but it is what it is and after 54 yrs of marriage I just give up.

me too- seems his stuff is taking over almost every room in the house. Little by little, more boxes and stuff are filling up the space. I have moved stuff just because it was really bugging me, just to have him fill it back up within days.1 -

In his defense, my husband is pretty tidy, but this is what I do. I bought him a nice oblong wooden bowl for the top of his dresser to dump his wallet, keys, etc, a pretty jar for his coins, and a nice mug for his pens and scissors. I installed a peg rack by the back door for his coats because the hall coat closet wasn’t working for him. I have baskets in strategic other places to collect his junk. When he leaves stuff other places, I pick it up and put it away, saying a quick prayer of thanks for the things I do love about him. Now if he could just do the same for me when he thinks I’ve left clutter that needs tidying. But no! Nagging works for him. Bless his heart. It’s interesting how the other person’s clutter bothers us, but we don’t see my own.

Hi Machka.
Sorry for the delayed response as I was away this weekend. You can call me DC for short. Weekend fun always means a slight weight gain but I'm back on track with exercise and eating healthy. I really need to watch for my salt intake It's amazing how much salt is added to just random items like pancake mix, salsa, taco packets. Anyway, my menopausal symptoms have slightly diminished and have the occasional hotflash 1-3x a week. I think if I keep up the weight training and cardio, maybe my hormones can balance themselves out. Crossing fingers.

Hi all. Just curious....where is everyone from? I'm from Washington, DC, living in the heart of downtown with my 2 furry felines and the hubby of almost 20 years.
Living on southern Vancouver Island, Canada with hubby. We just celebrated 42 years of wedded bliss (or something like that! lol) Petless by choice now.
Took them to an off leash dog park so they can roam free Instead, they are all laying down around my feet.
lol, silly pups! Clearly their affection is for you! Glad to hear that Lucy and Yogi are feeling better!
Debbie, those chocolates look really tasty! I could definitely find myself face down in that box!
Heather, YAY! Happy for you that you don't have to deal with the cast anymore!
Katla, happy for you for new glasses!
Allie, could you sell the bed/headboard rather than store it? Keeping Tracy and her family in my thoughts. So very happy that Kyle didn't throw out the slide!
Took our granddaughter down to the pond near our place to see the ducks. We did see some adults, but also these ducklings! As you can see, we could get quite close, or rather, they got quite close to us. The adults did also. Pretty neat for her to see them. Hoping to take grandson there this week and that the "family" will be there again.
Hugs for those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Carol thank you for mentioning Dana White. Had never heard about her but looked her up and watched a few of her videos which I found very interesting. I need to de-clutter my house and think I will start with my clothing. Not going to tackle too much right now as busy with outside work and garden right now but I can start with my closet and then work through from there. This will be an excellent project for me through the long winter months.

Did a spinning workout then cut the grass. Afterwards went to Aldi. Drizzling here so looks like I won’t get my walk in (boo)
Made chocolate bran muffins for me and then some rice in the IP. Love it in there
hmmm...now that eggs are less than $2, maybe I’ll hard boil some. Haven’t had hard boiled eggs in a long time.
Drkatie – I feel the same way you do, if someone has the time and inclination to find out something about me – they can go for it. That doesn’t impress me at all. They could just try asking me, but that may be too logical for some people. I just don’t have the time to be bothered looking things up about people. I take them for what I see.
Heather – good thoughts for the cast coming off Update: Yippee!!!! Kindness never goes out of style
DC – I’m sure that exercise is helping my hot flashes. I used to exercise every day. Then I broke a bone in my foot and couldn’t exercise. Was I ever having hot flashes!! Sweat would pour off me. As soon as I was able to get back to exercise, the hot flashes became fewer and less intense. Oh, I still have them. But sweat isn’t pouring off me. I was born and lived in northern NJ, then moved to the Poconos then southern PA, now in NC, down to only one cat now who has a seizure disorder, an anxiety disorder, and cancer. When he passes, we’ll probably get more cats. But right now isn’t the time. Not with his anxiety. The only kid in this house is dh
