    10. Bring joy to others by doing something kind for them. Minutes blank to R.
    11. Eat good food that makes you happy and really savor it. General Tso’s chicken with snap peas, brown rice and AF beer.
Joe told me the nice checkout lady cautioned against grapefruit since he’s on heart medicine and suggested the Keto diet. My gratitude is somewhat tainted by resentment that he never accepts my food choice suggestions. “grass fed meat in moderation, pasture raised eggs, organic everything possible, less prepared foods” :naughty: That’s not true, he does thank me for the fresh vegetables, fruits and salads I prep for him. So just be thankful, Barbara, that he’s now reading nutrition labels and rejecting everything with added sugar. I AM thankful. Honest!
Welcome @bethaboo2409 ! What kind of dog is Lulu?
    Katla hooray for robins!
Welcome home pip! Fingers X’d for Kirby’s MRI.
Kim great insights and suggestions for Annnie,
Tracey yours to Debbie. Glad for your great day with the grands.
Karen, wow, lunch with Dr. Fierro!
Michele ow! Painful as they can be, if a root canal can save the tooth that would be my choice.
Annie could you leave a sticky note where the ladder is saying something like “neighbor needed to borrow ladder, will return later”? Understand how frustrating it is that he accepts no input. What Machka said about a medical professional advising your Dad. Sometimes men will not listen to a trusted female but will to a respected male. You are in a very very hard place.
Rebecca your sister IS too nice. If the kids wanted some of the stuff they should have helped with the work. Just my two cents.
Rita stopped at Mars on the way? I quit using check registers after I’d kept a spreadsheet for a couple of months. Have two, one for reconciling checks with banks, and one for tracking ALL expenses whether check, credit card or cash.
Lisa ((hugs)) Only 51. Must have been a shock.
Sue Worms?!? :noway:  Oh h@[[ no!!!

Headphones while walking/exercising: Have not found any ear pieces I can tolerate in my ears, and my only headphones are corded.

That “ahh I’m home” feeling. And then there was the birdsong. 6-cool still day perfect for burnbarreling the fernwhackings.7-Pomegranate/kombucha soothing my sore throat, thanks Lanette! 8-Zicam minimizing cold symptoms. 9-Joe volunteering to pick me up something from Freddie’s-Minestrone! 10-Jeopardy walking for the first time since got this cold. 11- vimeo-ed church but felt well enough to take dogs to powerline and play with plants on this gorgeous day.

Regarding balancing chequebooks etc. ... I think I've said this before ... :)

The last time I balanced a chequebook was in my early 20s. I'm pretty sure I haven't done it sine 1990 ... 33 years.

The last time used a cheque was likely late 2008 or early 2009 ... 14-ish years. And it was such a big relief to never have to do that again!!

Co-incidentally, this article was published on June 7 ... I actually thought they'd already been phased out!

Cheques will be phased out by 2030 as mobile wallet use sky-rockets
    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-07/australian-government-to-phase-out-cheques-by-2030/102449560

    Why phase out cheques?
Because cheques only account for only 0.2 per cent of all payments, according to figures from an Australian Banking Association (ABA) report.

Cheque payments are also more expensive to process compared to other payment types — and it's been that way for some time.

    ...

You'll notice a decline in cash and cheque use. But there was an increase in all other payment types.

    auktcv4bumbg.png

Anyway, I have a spreadsheet with the following columns plus Item, Total and Comment for every expenditure, and in that way, I know what's coming up and whether a month will have a lot of expenses or not.

Machka - how do you get home when you have flats on a 50km ride?
    Tracey in Edmonton

My husband had his first flat at about 11 km into the ride ... he changed the tube and we carried on.

He had his second flat at about 35 km. He changed the tube ... but they were having trouble pumping it up and then realised, it was going flat.

So he put on a new tyre and tube which should have solved the problem ... but that tube went flat.

We were all out of tubes by that point, so the friend we were cycling with cycled to where we started and drove back to pick up my husband and his bicycle.

I stayed with my husband and we walked until the friend came back. Then I cycled the rest of the way in.

If it had been just the two of us, I would have cycled to the start and driven the van back.

Yes, apparently grapefruit and certain statins (such as the one my husband is on) don't play nicely.

    1. Decide to look for what’s good every day this month.

I have been enjoying coding during the first 2 days of the month. That's been really good.
Also the 25 flights of stairs a day.
    2. Say positive things in your conversations with others.
Chatted with a work friend about our gardens first thing this morning.
Smiled and thanked people as usual.
BTW - thanking the bus driver at the end of a trip is a thing here. :)
    3. Re-frame a worry and try to find a helpful way to think about it.
Where do I even start? A single worry?
There are so many worries rumbling away in the background but I try not to think about them or dwell on them.
I try to focus on the good days or even good moments.
    4. Take a photo of something that brings you joy and share it.
    gyl9w79yjxhi.png

    5. Think of 3 things you’re grateful for and write them down.
    My job
    The place we live
    My husband
    Our cat
    Oops, that's 4.
    6. Get out into green space and feel the joy that nature brings.
    Every day!
But this week has been wintery so I haven't walked far at lunch.

    7. Do something healthy that makes you feel good.
Climb, climb, climb, climb! This week I have climbed 109 flights of 20 stairs.
    Plus walking.
    8. Find joy in music: sing, play, dance, listen or share.
I listen to ABC Classic at work ... classical and related music. This week, the 10 am - 1 pm program has been featuring George Gershwin and I have been loving it!

    9. Ask a friend what made them happy recently.

My husband and his bees and garden and bicycles.

    10. Bring joy to others by doing something kind for them.

Told a kid I liked his sunglasses?
Told a friend that he was welcome to come cycling with us.

    11. Eat good food that makes you happy and really savor it.

I was so hungry by the time we got back after the bicycle ride, just about any food would have made me happy. I started with popcorn.

    12. Write a gratitude letter to thank someone.

    I don't write letters.
    Emails ... but not letters.

They will turn off the ventilator today for a dear friend of mine, and even more dear to my birth family. He was so protective of my sister's daughters, and they adored him back. They've traveled down to West Texas to help where they can, and to be there for his wife and daughters. He and his wife were still so much in love--she always called him her "Superman." He suffered a massive stroke and they couldn't get him back. He was only 51.

Edit to add: While I was writing, he left us. My sis let me know by text.
    :'(

So very sorry, Lisa. Prayers and sympathy to the family. 😪

Lisa-sorry to hear of your loss. Such a young age.

Debbie-don't know if I would want to continue that job if I didn't have to.

If his store manager would get transferred, quit, retire, etc it isn't a bad place for him to work. He knows the job better than most that are there. It is only a 6 min drive from the house. Before the restrictions were put back in place , he was making his own schedule pretty much. She left him alone for the most part but for some reason this past week she started going after him again.

Debbie: Peanut Butter Fudge or cups would be my downfall! Nice you have such a great friendship with your ex!

    Best,
    Rosemarie from GA

The fudge is easy to make and is really good. I use both peanut butter powder and peanut butter mixed with the melted chocolate and sweetened condensed milk. I am good as long as I dont try the first piece. After that, I grab just one piece but do that when ever I see it if I leave it in the kitchen.
YES it is amazing to have the special friendship with former hubby. We had no contact for 20 yrs and now we talk daily. Sometimes they are serious conversations, some are just talking about old times(we met when I was in 7th grade and he in 9th-we were each other's first on everything just about), some times we talk about what we made for dinner, swap recipes and ideas, but always check in with each other. He talks with me, to me, a real two way conversation. DH tends to talk AT me but not really listen or let me have an opinion without him thinking I am starting an argument.
Our spouses know we talk to each other. They know this will not change. They just don't know how often we talk.

PS.. How many of you use check registers to keep track of your spending? I’ve been using one the bank gave me and ordered some bigger ones from Amazon. So far I like getting back to the old way. Keeps me closer to my budget and ensures the bills get paid!

    RVRita

I don't use the bank checkbook register except for writing down check numbers and amounts as they're used (which are very few) ... no running balance or anything. Instead I use an excel spreadsheet that my husband fabricated for me and I love it.

    Beth

    Yep, Excel. :)

And a bills account. Money for bills goes in there automatically. Bills are paid automatically.

    M in Oz

I use a spreadsheet as well for monthly budgeting, but I can’t log as I spend so am finding the ‘old fashioned’ way to be better for me. I keep a running total as well. Just digital and I tend to overspend because I don’t know exactly how much I have to spend.
