So we changed the battery in the smoke alarm an now instead of chirping every three hours it's chirping every two minutes. Teddy is still shaking and panting and my dad says it's only a tiny chirp. That's because his hearing is so bad. Mr Google says something about holding down the test button to reset it. Dad says just wait a few hours. What a mess.

I would just try it, you don’t need your Dad to do it.

I put the dog outside and tried the test button, but it's still chirping. Very frustrating. Thank you Tracey for encouraging me. My dad always took care of these things, but he is getting older.

Did the KettleWorx Arms and Shoulders DVD and then the Hips and Butt DVD, then took the walk around the block. Then went to CVS to exchange an item and get another item for free. Only in the exchange, they didn’t give me the coupon plus the manager kept telling me that the coupon that I had that said “on any one purchase” was only good on certain items. So...I called CVS and finally got this guy to put the $6 back on my card. If it’s not on my card in a few days, I’ll call him back and really complain

Lanette – so sorry you fell. I guess you were lucky in that the weedwacker didn’t cut you. Get better fast. Good to hear about your knee

Tracey – I’m not really unhappy at BK. I just can’t get over the stupidity of some people. You would expect that a manager would put the customer first, and I can’t understand why they don’t. I plan to just do my job to the best of my ability. And if their “labor is down”, it’s probably their own fault so I’m thru worrying about it or worrying that they don’t have enough product for the customer. Not my store. As long as I can look myself in the mirror at the end of the day, to me that’s what matters.. I never thought of having the stake for Porky Pig’s sign fired with the sign, but that’s a good idea. Wonder if I’d have to have the stake specially made or if they have a mold of a stake.

Making a meatloaf right now for next week (and the freezer). Vince went to Lowe’s Hardware and then I’ll go in the pool

Heather – what a wonderful trip you’re having! I so love reading all about it

Betsy – have a great trip. We’ll be looking forward to hearing all about it

Going to get dinner ready while the meatloaf is baking. The in the pool!

    Annie,

Take out the new battery, then (with no battery in the alarm) press the reset or test button for 30 seconds. Then put the new battery in. I hope that works for you.

    1. Decide to look for what’s good every day this month. Started with friendly people.
    2. Say positive things in your conversations with others. I will try, but people annoy me.
    3. Re-frame a worry and try to find a helpful way to think about it. This will be about my son. Not sure how to re-frame it but will find a way today. I must realize he is a full grown man and in charge of his own life.
    4. Take a photo of something that brings you joy and share it.
    5. Think of 3 things you’re grateful for and write them down. 1. My family, 2. A roof over my head, 3. Enough food to eat.
    6. Get out into green space and feel the joy that nature brings. every day!
    7. Do something healthy that makes you feel good. 2 walks so far. And therapist today.
    8. Find joy in music: sing, play, dance, listen or share. To be accomplished.
    9. Ask a friend what made them happy recently. Did this on my trip to Lubbock to get my car back finally. Was a great day!
    10. Bring joy to others by doing something kind for them. Will report on this later! Gave a family some Little Debbie cookies.
    11. Eat good food that makes you happy and really savor it. Will do! Yesterday had a salad made from lettuce, onion, peppers, and tomato from my garden. The dressing was homemade too! Mmmmmm
    12. Write a gratitude letter to thank someone. To be done! Sent my GS a thank you note for being my grandchild!
    13. Take a light-hearted approach. Choose to see the funny side. Already happening after a very stressful day yesterday.
    14. Share a happy memory with someone who means a lot to you. Will do.
    15. Look for something to be thankful for where you least expect it. This will be fun to find things. How about turtle eggs on the beach that have to be moved to not be crushed.
    16. Speak to others in a warm and friendly manner. I will try.
    17. Take time to notice things that you find beautiful. Will do! Watched people enjoying the lake on a beautiful Saturday!
    18. Look for something good in a difficult situation. My son is getting help from a social worker who is including me.
    19. Get outside and find the joy in being active.Too hot today, 105 degrees at 1;45 pm!
    20. Rediscover and enjoy a fun childhood activity. Going to color! Didn’t do this. I must make time to do this.
    21. Send a positive note to a friend who needs encouragement. Forgot to do this
    22. Watch something funny and enjoy how it feels to laugh. There is a funny tv show called “The Neighbors” about humans living next door to aliens that makes me laugh. Will watch that today.
    23. Create a playlist of uplifting songs to listen to. I have one already!
    24. Bring to mind a favorite memory you feel grateful for. Boating on the Cumberland River in TN. So peaceful!
    25. Show your appreciation to people who are helping others. Will do if i have the opportunity.
    26. Make time to do something playful just for the fun of it.
    27. Be kind to you. Do something that brings you joy.
    28. Notice how positive emotions are contagious among people.
    29. Share a friendly smile with people you see today.
    30. Make a list of the joys in your life and keep adding to it.

Annie - how maddening. A couple possible things.

First, is it a "wired in" smoke detector? I had one that had 4 total detectors on the circuit. One by one they wouldn't shut up even with new batteries. I ended up removing all of them. And it seems they kept beeping even without any batteries in them. I remember I posted about it on this thread and others experienced the same thing...it just would't die! :p I was ready to run over it with the car or take a hammer and smash it to smithereens. There was something in the "wired in" part that went haywire. It will take an electrician to put in the new circuitry. It's on the list.

Second, last year, I kept hearing a chirp in the kitchen I thought was the smoke detector. Changed the battery and it seemed good for a day or two but I'd hear a chirp now and then. I finally figured out the chirp was coming from a little radio controlled weather station I had on the dining room table about 6' from the smoke detector which picks up temperature from a sensor on the outside of the house. I changed the battery in it and all was fine.

So the problem never was the smoke detector, just a fluke that when I changed the battery, the weather station didn't chirp for a day.

    Good luck!!

Karen I tried that. Thanks, but it didn't work. The smoke alarm is wired together with the others. Hmmm.
