Beth—I like the hummingbird feeders from Perky Pet that uses a suction cup to hold the feeder on my window. It works very well for me and is easy.

I have seen other hummingbird feeders mounted on a sturdy post in the ground with plenty of capacity for the sugar water. There is one in a lovely garden area near where I live.

In the beginning I had a glass feeder that dangled from an upper deck. The location was windy and the sugar water spilled in the wind.

I like the the window feeder best. 😊

Today I looked at VRBO rentals for a possible get away. I am not sure I can afford to get away. I have a wedding in MA next September (2024) that I plan to attend. This will involve air fare and car rentals and so forth. Yet I feel confined thinking I need to wait over 12 months for a get away. Anyway I enjoy looking at VRBO's and Air Bnb's so even though I wasn't productive, I had a good day.

    Best,
    Rosemarie from Georgia

We try to go somewhere about every 6 weeks or couple months. But not far away. No air fares, car rentals etc.

We just drive about 200-225 km away (125-140 miles) to stay in an inexpensive (~$140/night) place for a long weekend.

We do that so we can cycle in a nice area. Where we live isn't particularly good for cycling, unfortunately.

Why not check out something relatively local ... be a local tourist. :)

It is humid beyond anything I’ve experienced before. I don’t like it. Skies are gray & I wonder if this is connected to Canadian fires. I hope our Canadian friends are okay.

On a happier note, I’ve seen a hummingbird at my feeder this morning. 💖

Katla ... thank you! I will look into the Perky Pet feeders. My mom is only allowed feeders with window suction cups.

Lanette ~ Yes, thinking about a new/used car can really be a big decision. I think your idea of making a pros/cons lists will help you.

Heather ~ Love the wild flowers and your geraniums. Welcome home.

Lisa ~ I too love your stories about some of the unusual people you knew growing up. Shirley must have been a hoot! :)

    1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
    2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
    3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
    4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
    5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
    6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
    7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy.
    8. Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today.
    9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture.
    10. Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them.
    11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation.
    12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”.
    13. Challenge negative thoughts. Find an alternative interpretation.
    14. Get outside and move to help clear your head.
    15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step.
    16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts.
    17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today.
    18. Let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that matter.
    19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.
    20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself.
    21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life.
    22. Find 3 things you feel hopeful about and write them down.
    23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time.
    24. Choose to see something good about what has gone wrong.
    25. Notice when you are being judge mental and be kind instead.
    26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath.
    27. Write down 3 things you are grateful for (even if today was hard).
    28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem.
    29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right.,
    30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support.
    31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

:)Lanette list making is a good way to address the car question. Pros and cons about keeping your car or replacing it. Then if you want to replace it, you can address what you want in the next car. Looking at what financial resources you have is the next step. We did this with our car shopping before we started looking online for a car that fit our wants and our assets. We found our current Subaru online before going to the dealer and we've been looking online for the electric car we want now. There was no wandering in a car lot with an eager salesperson. Best wishes to you on your journey
