This morning I started formatting my new book, NOW I AM. It basically consists of putting my rough Word document into the KPC 'Fixit' format for my size paperback. Sounds easy enough, doesn't it, but nothing ever goes smoothly. It scares me every time, because I have never worked in an office, or had to produce documents for my job. However, I get there in the end. I am happy it goes slowly, because I use it as a close editing process, rethinking and rewriting.
At some point in the near future I will have to work on a cover design. No inspiration at the moment, but I'm sure it'll come. Something to play with. I use their templates, but I provide my own design.
So, a good start.
Painting this afternoon. I'm going to try a different style. Ink and paint.
Yesterday I got a heat gun for drying our watercolours. It's always frustrating when you can't get on with something because it's wet. Haven't tried it yet, but I hope it's better than using my hairdryer!

Heather: Love the heat gun idea. I wonder if this will work?
Machka: I love the second dress as well! It is interesting that your office dresses up. I thought most offices had gone business casual. I don't own a dress or skirt at present. I use to wear them all the time in my thirties and forties.
I am up and about. Plan to have lunch with a friend today and go to the gym. I will see what else the day brings!
Best,
Rosemarie

So no music. No exercise videos. There goes the sister challenge. And my three year Spanish streak in Duolingo is in jeopardy. I'm cranky.

It's really OK, Annie - We love you even when you're cranky. You've done well on the challenge, and you will continue to if you choose to do so. As my sis wants told me (I hate it when she's right! ) This changes your plan, it didn't change your life. Make a new plan to get where you want to go.

Annie - I do Duolingo on my phone on the app . If you have any data, it's no problem.
I've given up with streaks. What a pain to be hassled.
I've also given up with tracking, and hardly ever weigh myself. I feel that I know what feels right and good for me. I used to be meticulous. Nowdays life is too short. However, I am in favour of whatever works for you, and I know some people enjoy facts and figures and charts. I am not a detail person and I'm learning to go with the flow.

Australia is more formal than North America ... in some ways. We dress for office work, for going to the movies (which took me by surprise), and often when we're out and about.
Most Australian children wear uniforms to school for 12 or 13 years. Then many jobs, including office jobs, have uniforms. Thank goodness my office doesn't require a uniform but we do dress up in business attire. Except for Fridays. We can go a bit more casual on Fridays.
That said, the bogans will insist on wearing pyjamas or thin leggings and short tops when they are shuffling round the shops.
I love skirts and dresses. So much more comfortable than dress pants. I wear some length of leggings under them ... mid-thigh leggings ("bicycle shorts") in summer, knee length in spring and autumn, and long in winter.

Annie I didn't understand why people needed data for their smart phones until we were without internet. Then I realized that I could access almost everything on my phone without using wireless access. It sure is tough being without all the services we've grown to count on from our computers.
Lanette, Great chicken photos and stories. They bring us all a lot of joy.
We voted yesterday/ Voted at home and drove the ballots to a drop off box in town. The election was for school board and the current board made some decisions I thought were poor so we were glad to participate in possibly making some changes.
This weekend is the Lavender Festival which will bring 30,000 visitors to town. We'll stay at home where it's quiet. We've enjoyed the lavender farms and activities many times but will stay away this year. WE have lavender growing in our yard. That's enough.

As there are a few of us riding bicycles here, I thought I'd post a quick and basic bicycle fit diagram.
You and the bicycle are a machine and in order for the machine to work properly, it needs to be set up properly.
In the first image ... make sure your saddle is high enough that your heel can rest on the pedal at the bottom of the pedal stroke, with a very, very slight bend in your knee. Your leg should not be fully straight with knee locked.
In the second image ... we ride with the ball of our feet on the pedals. By doing the above setup, you will be able to place the ball of your foot on the pedal and pedal comfortably with enough of a bend in your knees to prevent (or reduce) knee issues.
If you start doing long rides, you may want to adjust the saddle height with more precision than that. The above suggestion is a decent starting point.
Next, a comment about cadence.
If you're watching the Tour de France, you'll hear that riders are pedalling at over 100 rpm (rotations per minute). Racers do that and a few other people will as well.
Long distance cyclists (like me) tend to prefer a somewhat slower cadence. Mine is about 85 rpm.
In the beginning, your cadence might be fairly slow, and that's OK, but do try to gradually speed up the rotations over time. Ideally, you don't want something slower than about 70 rpm for the sake of your knees. If you find you're pedalling slower than 70 rpm, shift the gears (or make some sort of adjustment to your stationary bicycle) so you can pedal at a faster cadence.
You can count your cadence by looking at the time on your phone or watch and then counting the number of times your right foot goes around in a minute.
A really slow cadence, especially a slow cadence where you're pushing to get the pedals around, can result in Quadriceps tendonitis.
Happy riding!!

Well, I deliberately chose just about my most difficult photo to try and paint. I knew it would be very hard. I haven't managed to capture the sun on the top of the bow in its brilliance, but I had a go. It is a view from our cabin.
I didn't have the courage to use much pen, but I have emphasised the important bits.

Debbie - good plan with the loan dependent on Ezie's care. How are the plans for MIL's move coming along? Great job on the long walk, by the way.
Barbara and Rita -I don't always take the time to read your spoilers, but when I do, I am always impressed with your progress and goals. Great reminders for me when setting my own goals.
Annie - hope the router gets fixed today. During my DH's final years, he'd make me nervous trying to "fix" things. The light went out in the fridge and he was going to take it apart to fix it. Could he have done it? Maybe, but I didn't want to risk it. Same thing with cleaning the garbage disposal. At our previous house, the little rubber "fingers" were removable. In this house, it is well attached. He insisted on trying to yank it out and I was able to distract him. I think he was just trying to find ways to be useful. I would often give him something to do that didn't involve electrical appliances that I could have easily done myself, asking him if he had a minute to help or I'd fake weakness or forgetfulness to let him shine. I learned this by trial and error, by the way.
Heather - I admire your progressive painting skills - thanks for showing us through your latest creations. Yesterday my dental hygienist was excited to tell me SHE has now taken up painting and calligraphy. Learning it all from videos, and she's planning to display some of it in her little room. Another hidden talent suddenly surfaces. She's in her mid-late 50's.
Habits & Goals - I've made an excel spreadsheet listing the "habits" I need to be aware of toward my health and weight/fitness plan. I discovered in just writing them down, I already have a lot of good habits - I know I need to concentrate on sticking to them and adding a few to reach my goals. I actually started to do this the beginning of the year, then lost steam.
I also read something yesterday - this might be a James Clear suggestion - break the day down into parts, the article suggested 4. So if, let's say, I mess up with breakfast by grabbing a donut instead of something nutritious, I wouldn't let it ruin my day. That water is under the bridge and now I can concentrate on my noon meal and activity. I thought that was a neat way to look at it.
OK, going out to work in the shop. The dandelions need to be mowed but they are only a day or two away from fluff. So I'm not sure if it's worth getting out the mower. I might weed eat the ditch so the neighbors don't think I'm a total slob, lol.
Make it a wonderful Friday, ladies!

Worked then went to Big Lots hoping their summer things were on sale but they weren’t. But did get one tablecloth for our next pool party. Got this Rice Krispie thing you decorate to take to PJ, some Skittles for Denise, PopTarts for us to take with us for Vince. Plus...I had a $10 off coupon. Then went to Beals Outlet to see if they have any summer things, but all they had was one tablecloth which I wasn’t crazy about. I did get this flamingo ice cube mold for a friend of mine down in FL, she really likes flamingos. Home, got dinner ready and will go in the pool in a few

Flat Fire now over 15,000 acres with mandatory “Leave Now” evacuations in place for the Oak Flat area 4 miles south/southeast of Agness. Not heavily populated but perhaps 40 structures in the area. Smoke not as bad today. Progress made clearing old breaks but zero percent contained after 5 days.
Debbie I had the same thought when I saw Allie’s pic of Miles’ rainy day play Not selling your MIL’s house until she’s truly settled in wherever she wants to go is very wise. Thankful your DH took your advice and that there is hope he may be relieved of some of the stress she puts him through.
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
2023: Be of good cheer. July: Move more, fuel better (less sugar), live NOW.
We are not planning on selling MIL's house unless we have to- The plan is to keep the house and rent it to son and then it will end up being his when the time is right. Not going to just give it to him outright right now but won't be charging him going rate for rent around here either. He lives at home still because the rent prices are so high.
She is back to being ok where she is and not yelling at dh every day. He never knows what he is walking into. We wish we could hire someone to do stuff for her and give dh a break but that didn't go over well the last time.
For each month she stays in her home, that saves $5000-8,000 or more.
I am just ready for all the drama to be over. There is enough drama to deal with with dh without adding her into the mess.

I have always liked wearing dresses. Stopped wearing them for a while but have a lot now that I am going to the church I am. Very conservative. Women only wear dresses to church. I think I have seen two women from the whole church ever wear pants to any of the services.
I like dresses but they have to be comfy. I wear my soft leggings under them instead of slips. Flannel ones during the winter to help stay warm and capri ones under shorter dresses during the rest of the year.
Have a few dresses I really hope I can fit back into again.3 -

1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy. I really need to do this today. Did not do this. Had a bad day all around yesterday.
8. Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today. I will try.
9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture. Trying to see my son’s decisions through his eyes.
10. Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them. I did not do this.
11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation. My son is bonding with his uncle and grandmother.
12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”. I will try to remember to do this. Write them in my journal.
13. Challenge negative thoughts. Find an alternative interpretation. I worked on this. I also learned a breathing technique to help.
14. Get outside and move to help clear your head. I do this every day, but the triple digit heat is preventing it.
15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step. I have to think about this.
16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts. Controlled breathing helped here.
17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today. I use tenacity often so expect to use it here.
19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. I need to really remember this!
20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself. I will definitely try.
21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life. Therapy, someone to talk to, long walks alone all help me through tough times, medication as well.22. Find 3 things you feel hopeful about and write them down.
23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time.
24. Choose to see something good about what has gone wrong.
25. Notice when you are being judge mental and be kind instead.
26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath.
27. Write down 3 things you are grateful for (even if today was hard).
28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem.
29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right.,
30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support.
31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

On a good note, my son is getting job offers and trying real hard to get back on the right track. I hope it continues. He doesn’t handle idleness very well.
On a bad note, I’ve developed a kidney infection. On some really strong antibiotics.
On another note, I have good days and bad days. But hanging in there. The list I post every day helps me to get focused for the day. This thread is one of the good things.

Rita good news about your son! And sorry about the kidney infection. Hope it clears up soon!
I got the router fixed this morning, then went to pick up my Dad's new computer. We got it all plugged in, but the monitor isn't getting any signal. So more work to do.
Meanwhile, I need to get back on my bike, and weigh myself for Friday. Ever onward!

Kids pooped after another 6mile walk today. Yogi’s abscess on his noggin has healed up pretty nicely, he just needs to grow that fur back

I weigh 162.3, same as last week. So the chances of 159 by Monday are pretty slim. Unless I weighed high from extra food yesterday. Who knows, maybe the scale will bless me with a random downswing. Anyway, I got back on my bike, Yay!

Getting ready for my mom's 92nd birthday tomorrow. She will spend the day with us and I've been preparing the things she wants to eat: Split Pea Soup with Ham for lunch and Stuffed Peppers for dinner. Cheesecake for her birthday dessert!

Rita-hope kidney infection responds to meds quickly. Happy to hear son seems to be leveling out. And Rita-we all have good days and bad days!
Debbie-you certainly have a lot going on! Hope you can find balance during all of this.
Annie-you will figure out the rest of the computer. More important than scale-can you notice a difference in the look and feel of clothes?
Lanette-I like the parts of day concept. I also follow that a day is 24 hours and I can restart counting first hour whenever I chose! Typically a whole day isn't horrible but we focus on the part that was.
Barbara-hate hearing fires are still going.
Allie-it's a hard thing for a kid to not get some of the junk that is out there. They will face it at school and other places. I think if parents try to set a good foundation they can balance it out. My grandchildren are making some pretty smart choices with a bit of junk sprinkled in.
I wear dresses to work (not all of the time) but for big meetings I usually do. On hot days they are also very comfortable. I either wear pantyhose or go bare legs-never done leggings.
Latest health faux pas:So worked at food pantry last night and the heat and humidity got to me. Was standing there helping, sweating profusely and started feeling strange-kind of weak and woozy. Went and sat down, felt like I might pass out so I laid on bench. They wanted to call squad and I tried to explain I have had it before with my thyroid stuff and to give it a few minutes. Tried to get up to walk inside-nope-laid on grown fro a few before I fell. They brought me cold water and towels and after a few I could make it inside (with assistance). After sitting for a bit I was ok to drive home. There is a nurse in the group and she kept an eye on me and let them know I was responding well and no need for squad. Biggest effect is the spells wear me out-couldn't take off work today so I am dragging tonight! I didn't pay attention to the temperature or the humidity and take some of the steps I usually take (ice scarf, etc.). I am going to go in and watch tv in bed pretty soon and just rest.
Off to relax. Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Ginny your spell sounds scary! Glad you were able to handle it with good sense and avoid falling down. And yes my clothes are looser! I will measure again on Monday, but I know I lost an inch each in my hips and waist. Yay!
I never wear dresses. I like to wear my joggers so I can exercise without changing clothes. But it's getting tougher because I sweat on the bike.
