Salad greens
https://www.everydayhealth.com/diet-nutrition-pictures/best-salad-greens-for-your-health.aspx
We find spinach, beet greens, swiss chard and mustard greens fairly easy to grow, so we eat quite a lot of those.
As far as lettuce goes, we like Cos lettuce (also known as Romaine). We grow it through the summer and autumn, and buy it when our garden isn't producing.

We also missed most of the evening ones because of rain, but they were able to get their faces painted and have glitter tattoos. They were given slap bracelets, flags and a beach ball each.
We came back to the house for a bit to wait for the fireworks. We went to the parking lot we always go to to watch them, the kids played with their beach balls. Then I have them each a Canadian Flag glow stick. Michaela cracked hers like normal, but when she went to shake it it sprayed all over her face. We took her straight to emergency after rinsing it with the little water we had with us. She said it was burning and hurt. Only one parent was allowed to go in the room with her and she chose Daddy. It was late and poor Jonah was exhausted, I brought him back to my place and put him to bed then went back to wait with Lauryn. She couldn’t drive because she had taken Robaxacet. When I got back to the hospital Michaela came running down the stairs to me. She said she had “cool” drops out in her eye.
Lauryn said they rinsed it and also did the orange dye so they could make sure there was no more glitter in her eye from the face painting. They also checked for scratches. She’s all good now.
After all of that excitement I am struggling to get to sleep and it is now almost 2am.

Tracey - So glad Michaela didn't have a worse injury. How scary! The face painting is fabulous !
Allie - Love the lake place and so pleased you are having a good time
We are at Åndalsnes, having travelled through the fjords to get here. It's more of a working town, with big schools, cultural centre, etc. It seems to be a very important centre for serious mountaineering and hiking. I mean serious.
We had a stroll through the town and came across this outdoor church.
The mountains around are big and very lumpy bumpy. It was hard to get a decent picture because of houses in the way, but I have cropped them.
There is a very popular cable car up the Romsdal mountain, but I am terrified of heights and it is around £30 each.
DH has picked up a stomach bug and is not happy. I have had a sore ish throat for a few days and I think a general malaise, but it hasn't developed into anything. My legs ache very easily.
We did go to the gym this morning and our walk was about 75 minutes. Still doing all the stairs unless I'm already walked out.
So the rest of the day for me will be quiet. DH was hoping to go out for another walk this pm, but that may not happen now. I have to admit to sneakily feeling a bit relieved when he is under the weather, because he normally puts me to shame with his fitness 😕.
Love you all. Heather xxxxxxxx

Good morning ladies!
I'm not big on lettuce or salads in general. The ones I like are high calorie, laden with goat cheese, bacon and avocado. But I eat half a cup of raw spinach daily in a smoothie.
I have some old sports bras that are very tight. They might work for jogging. But last time I got one on, I had trouble getting it off. Amazon has some that zip up the front. I should try what I have in the back of my drawer first. If you don't hear from me, I am trapped in Lycra!
My dad's fitness watch quit working. The darn thing has no buttons; I can't even turn it on. I ought to buy him a new one for his birthday. Hmm. Time for a little research.

Sunday --
Got a bit of exercise in.
After a very hectic June, I did some cleaning and catching up today.
Laundry
Bathroom
Dressing Room
Bedroom
And the area around my chair in the main room.
It was a cool but sunny and windy day, so I had my laundry on the line for a while this afternoon. In winter, we have fewer opportunities to do that, so it's great when we can take advantage of even an hour or two of nature's drying ability.
I feel a bit more on top of things now.

Last night we had thunder & lightning that provided quite a show. This morning there are a few raindrops & the humming bird has visited the feeder. Air quality seems a bit better today than yesterday, although skies in the distance are gray & a bit smoky. I wonder whether the Canadian fires are still burning. I hope things are improving there & air quality improves for all of us.

Regarding Intervals ...
For years (decades?) before I signed up with Zwift, I would do "commercial intervals" when I was on my bicycle inside training for racing or ultra-distance cycling events.
Commercial intervals are when I would turn on a show with commercials (on TV). During the show, I would ride relatively easy, but when the commercial would come on, I would ride as hard as I could for the length of the commercial. And repeat for anywhere from 30-60 minutes.
In Zwift, I ride courses with sprints and I love doing those sprints ... they're kind of like the commercial intervals.
When I'm on the treadmill, even if I'm using Zwift, I still do commercial intervals. I'll walk briskly during the show and run during the commercials. As I increase my running, I'll run during a commercial and then keep it going through the show and next commercial. Then I'll go back to brisk walking for the next bit of the show and then run again through commercial, show and commercial. Eventually, I get so that I walk for the first 5 minutes and then run.
Regarding Steps Throughout the Day ...
Much like commercial intervals above, I will often get up when the commercials come on and do something. Clean the bathroom, put away laundry, use the toilet, get my backpack ready for work, etc. etc.
So I'm up and down all evening.
Here's my bicycle on the trainer.
This bicycle has been used on the road but is now a dedicated trainer bicycle.
This setup is now downstairs, not in the lounge room anymore, but it gives you an idea of what I ride when I ride inside.

Morning, afternoon and evening all,
Heather - keep the pictures coming, love them all!
Katla - So glad the new hummingbird feeders have attracted the little beauties. They always make me pause by the kitchen windows to see them get a drink of nectar.
Machka - Love the link to the word art program, thank you! It has turned into an unexpected thought exercise in figuring out how I actually do prioritize the people and elements in my life, so I'm still playing with mine.
Tracey - So very pleased you've decided not to go back to that place, and that you have time to breathe over the next few months. Loved the pictures and the face-painting! Sorry the celebration became so traumatic, but really glad your granddaughter was OK.
Annie - One thing that always worked for me when jogging was wearing two bras, a sports bra and then a regular bra for support. They have different ways that they support, so wearing two meant that things pretty well stayed where I wanted them. Helped a lot.
Karen - Different to so many of his, just love your brother's work. Have you thought of trying your hand at it yourself?
Barbara - Pics of the mulberry, as requested:Here's the tiny thing still in the pot, with a bamboo stake to keep it stable the first year, while Corey is finishing taking the dirt out of the hole to replace with garden soil and compost. It's about a year old, I think. Below it is a picture of the fruit, and then of a full-grown tree. They're supposed to get to 15 feet tall and ten feet wide. If you can save the berries from the birds (who love them) they're lightly sweet and very tasty. They're self-pollinating, so don't need a second tree. I mentioned that I had been talking to my sis about the mulberry tree that was right outside our bedroom window growing up, which is why he bought it for our anniversary.
Quiet Sunday morning here, time to take that man some coffee and get the laundry folded...

We shop weekly for basic groceries. We use the app for the QFC grocery store and fill our "cart" with what we want for the week. Sunday morning at 8 AM we go to the store to have our groceries brought to our car. While there, I carry in several bags of plastic bags and wrappers to put in the plastic bag recycling bin. We buy chicken, fish, TP, laundry and dis soap from Costco. We shop there bi monthly. We make sure to get there the minute the store opens the doors and have shopped and gotten back to the car in under 30 minutes. Anything we can't find locally, we buy online primarily from Amazon. Staying healthy is our top priority so sometimes we have to compromise on items or cost to assure that we're not prowling around stores. We don't eat as much fresh produce as many of you, so this has worked for us. We eat simple meals and enjoy the repetition so ordering groceries and supplies is very simple.
Allie, this appears to be the birthday celebration that was meant for you. Best wishes.
Lisa, Happy Anniversary, It appears to me that both you and Corey hit the jackpot when you found each other.
Heather, The pictures are great. Keep them coming.
Flea, I'm enjoying hearing about and seeing your vacation.
Rosemary, Glad the WW meeting was useful to you.
Annie, I use the term "planned exception" because "cheat day" feels too negative and not helpful. Congrats on your continued success in the sister challenge.

DH did go out for his walk, and discovered the start of the path up the cable car mountain, but he was reluctant to test himself in case nature called. He got back to the ship ok. I had a lovely nap and washed my hair.
At lunch I talked to the couple who go dancing. The man has been my partner for the tango and the pasa doble. He said, when the children had grown, they both got involved in competitive dancing, to the point of obsession! He is very old, but still has style on the dance floor.
Still trying. Still game.
Now going to blow-dry my hair.

For anyone who is interested in that sort of thing, I have snapped a relief map to show where we are.
Geiranger at the bottom is where we were yesterday. Today we have wound our way north a bit to Åndalsnes. Our first port on this cruise was Kristiansund, on the coast. On a previous cruise we went to Molde, the town of roses.

I did watch, A man called Otto with Jean yesterday afternoon.. it was poignant and sad. but a lovely movie..
Well ,a nap is in order...6 -
Tracey, glad that Michaela is ok. Love the face paintings!
You can grow lettuce in containers. I would pick a leaf variety though as they can grow closer together. It"s not too late to simply plant from seed. Just make sure your container has drainage holes as lettuce needs consistent watering when in containers but roots don't like to sit in water. Give it a try. Fresh homegrown lettuce is so much better than what you buy in the stores.
Heather, enjoying your pics. Absolutely gorgeous scenery.

Good Sunday!
After a good Wednesday, my Thursday ended badly. DH was ready to call a friend to take me to the ER. About an hour after eating dinner, my belly just exploded. I barely made it in the door and to the first bathroom. Cramping was worse than my labor pains, nausea, and of course the diarrhea. I was breathing super fast just to try to tame the pain and not pass out. DH was so worried! I finally made it to the bed. My BP was 93/52. Way too low even for me. Managed to fall asleep with immodium, heated bear, and cold rag on neck (again). Went to doctor on Friday morning. She believes I just got my gut bacteria out of wack. Got put back on liquid/cracker diet for a day, followed by simple soup yesterday, start adding foods today that are easy and mild. She did prescribe stronger imodium med if needed and also Flagyl to take only if not better in a couple more days. No sore spots in intestines nor inflammation in lymph nodes, so that is good. I am not allowed any lactose or pork. The two really bad episodes have been after eating pork. Two things I just learned....allergies to cats and pork generally go together. Also gelatin is made of pork. The second explains why jello upsets my stomach. It is amazing how many things have milk in them. Belly didn't like Ramen noodles yesterday, not sure what is in them that upset it, but won't be eating more. So far the oatmeal this morning is doing okay. Needless to say, my trip to MD got cancelled. I am sorely disappointed, but couldn't risk a repeat of Thursday night while driving. Then yesterday, my DH got stung twice in the face by yellow jackets. Took him to the ER as his face and throat were so swollen. One shot of steroid, more benadryl, and prednisone started today and he is better. Life changes so quickly!
Heather, Allie, and Flea Love the vacation pictures! So beautiful!
Annie You are doing well on your challenge. I had to laugh at the bra comment. I count myself lucky that I don't have that issue. Once upon a time I wanted implants, but am now glad that didn't happen.
Margaret Thank you for the breathing tips. I will try practicing them.
Katla I too love my hummingbirds. I have one feeder outside of my bedroom window that they really like. They don't care for the other two, but are enjoying my flowers.
Tracey I too am glad you finally got the paper needed. I hope you continue to find the breathing space you deserve.
Vicki I hope the new hire works well for you.
Welcome to all the new ladies! This is a wonderful group of ladies.
I better get some work done. Since I am home until Wednesday, I ought to get caught up.
The good part of being on a limited diet is my blood work ought to be good on Monday;)

Barbara was it you who mentioned jogging with arms crossed? It worked for me! Thanks! I got past the two steps and closer to fifty. And my knee is okay so far! Progress is a marvelous thing.
Kylia and Lisa, you have such fortitude. I would be knocked flat by the digestive episodes you describe. I used to have a lot more issues but now I rarely have even the mildest upset. I wish I could tell you what healed me, but I don't know. Maybe more fiber and less red pepper. Such an individual thing. Anyway, hope you have better days.

Kylia- hope you continue to feel better.
I have been super lazy the past two weeks- not walking because Ezie is out of school so not over at the wetlands 4 days a week like I was. I really miss it. Lazy on tracking my food and skipped weighing myself for the past three Sunday's.
Got on the scale this morning and up 3lbs. Need to get this under control. Too many little snacks. Got some really great rice crackers-black pepper or spicy. Open a bag(they are small bags thankfully) and before the day is over, I have eaten the whole bag full. They are just 10cal each but not supposed to eat the whole bag full.
Mom's birthday party was last Sunday- she had a great time but so much stress on all of us, mostly due to the room mate. Mom did stay late with a friend(the only person that stayed to help mom, sister and I clean up) and the friend knows how we feel about the room mate so gently talked to mom about how it is affecting all of us. She stayed so late(sister and I drove home at 9:15 to lock up the chickens, take the dogs out and put all the food from the party away in mom's fridges) we almost went looking for her. She lives 10miles from town. She got home at 11:15, said she had a great talk with Pat.
Got to see an old friend that lived two houses from us-first time in 43 yrs. That was great. He told us that he had stopped by to see mom, she wasn't there but the room mate was. She wouldn't give him mom's contact info(cell number/home number) after he asked her 5 different times. We made sure he has it now and he will be going out to visit mom more. I have asked many friends to do this. The room mate is isolating mom by being so toxic(that is how our friend put it).
I will be going up more often. It is crazy that I was there three nights and the room mate never said a word to me, made a snide comment of the food I was making for the party right as she walked by but that was it.
Fitbit acted up- wouldn't sinc. Dh had to uninstall then reinstall it. Now I can't figure out which email/password he used and need to sinc my watch because the time is off. Glad I looked at my computer. Would have been 20 min. late to church if I used my watch.
Will have him look at it when I get back.

Kylia - So very sorry about the gut issues, dear heart. They're painful in the extreme, and I'm glad the doctor is treating it seriously. I just finished 14 days of flagyl and cipro, and am having a couple days where my body is recovering - the antibiotics tend to kill off the good bacteria as well, and it takes them a bit to gear up to work correctly. Hope you start feeling so much better.
Annie - If the last couple years have taught me anything, it's that I haven't died from pain that I thought would kill me, or embarrassment that I thought would kill me, or humilitiation because I could not control my bodily functions. I am still absorbing this knowledge of myself, but had you told me five years ago, I would have said the same thing you did, that I wasn't strong enough to deal with these things.
I was wrong.
I think it's quite possible that we all (including you) are stronger than we know. Until we are tested (and hopefully, we will NOT be, I might add) we doubt ourselves, with or without reason. Still trying to figure all this out. But I genuinely think it's in all of us.

Klondike fluffy power waffle with peanutbutter, banana and syrup today for breakfast. So yummy. I am good until a snack for dinner.
Husband needed to go to Mt Vernon to make copies at Staples today. Its a 45 min trip to the mainland, but I decided to stay home. After all my travels in June its just nice to stay put.🤗
Texted with eldest sailor son and he put in his last 5 requests for next duty station choices.
2 commands here on Whidbey
1 in Japan
2 commands in San Diego
If he does get San Diego, being that he won't get an overseas allotment in his pay, he can use this place as his storage unit, essentially moving back in. Then either have a room situation, and one of his scooters can fit in his van. But moving wouldn't be needed. Its only $150 more for each of us, which is quite doable. I don't have that unsettling feeling anymore, or have the need to "sell stuff for $" which I tend to do.
My sisters are feuding. There is a family book that each of my aunts and mom received during the 1970's. It has a page where we are listed, and the genealogy back to 1600's. It was in Norwegian though. So my eldest sister wanted to find our family's copy, and texted my middle sister about it. The fact that my middle sister lives in the basement, and its quite messy, my eldest sister said that it could be stashed somewhere. My middle sister took offense saying she wasn't keeping things from her. It went downhill from there... My eldest sister called me and vented. I suggested she state to our middle sister to only call, that way nothing is misinterpreted. Texts can be fuzzy. But the texts to state that quickly escalated to "never communicating again" nonsense. My middle sister called and vented. I really hate to be in the middle. I listen to both sides, try to emphasize, but really I hate when both say "don't tell your sister this or that". I am not in charge or responsible for their happiness. Its interesting that both have so much ill history that any current issues, all that past just gets dug up too. Anyways, my eldest sister wanted the book because she is planning a trip to Norway sometime next year.
Thanks for letting me vent.🙃🙄🤗

this reminds me so much of me, years ago, when I first started dealing with infertility. I said there was no way I would go through the shots. I was terrified of needles, seeing blood made me black out.
I ended up doing I think it was five tries. Up to 36 shots in one week, daily blood tests just to try to get pregnant- I would do anything for it. I would have tried more times but Kaiser said no more unless we wanted to spend $$$$$$ for IVF which we didn't have.
It is amazing what we will actually do that we didn't think we could.
