August 1: Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 1.50 miles
2.50/80 mile goal
I went down for a treadmill session before work. I had meant to get in at least 3 miles, but I got up late and was slow getting going and then I fell down the social media rabbit hole a bit, so by the time I started, I only had 30-45 min.
I decided to run 15 ish and walk 15 ish. I did a run walk of 3 x (4/1 min at 5.5/3.8 mph), 5.5 mph for 2:31 min. That was 1.50 miles and a mile walk total for warm up and cool down. My avg pace for the run was 11:41 min/mile. Avg HR was 131 with a max of 145. Not a horrible start to August.4 -
Because of some illness I shifted the runs at the end of last month and I ran three times in a row. Now my plan has me starting August with two in a row. If my calculations are correct that'll be running five straight days. A Streak!
August Running Goal: 18 runs, 75 miles- Aug 1 - 3.00 miles

I am not setting any kind of goal. I won't be running for a while but I am hoping to at least get some walks in if I feel up to it. I will be mostly lurking and living vicariously through all of your running experiences.
I am also so over the summer heat, especially since it means I can't get out for a walk because I can't get sweaty. I did go shopping today and spent a long while walking around and around Target.
@martaindale - I would love to do that race in PA. I love that area. When my daughter was in school in Baltimore we would drive there for a day or sometimes for the weekend.
I would highly recommend a Subaru for the everyday vehicle - we have an Outlook, daughter has a Forrester and we have friends with Outbacks and towing a small camper trailer is very doable. You could even consider renting the trailer. Around here there are lots of commercial places to rent from but even better there are individuals who will rent more reasonably and their trailers tend to be clean and in great shape.
Welcome @knotmel - This is a crazy but very supportive group of runners. Some of our discussions are about running and other times they are very off topic, just jump right in though!
@AlphaHowls - My biggest time waster, blackhole, is reading online newspapers and magazines (local papers, National Geographic, etc.). The printed versions probably wouldn't take so much time (read an article and move on) but I tend to start clicking on all the ancillary links to related stories...
I was also surprised by the early school start date but then I looked and ours starts on August 10th.

@kgirlhart I also decided to start the month off with a 10k. Again, I left late but was able to drink from two! water fountains while running through the university campus. I also have learned where to find a bit of shade and try to split up the full on sun vs. partially shaded sections.
@yirara I’m always not sure German uncertain weather is worse than constant sunshine like in Southern California. They both can definitely be challenging. I hate being under/over dressed so in Germany I am constantly checking the weather app. Here, I’m checking whether I will melt if I go outside or not .
So today, I ran by this building and I swore it looked so familiar. And it looked familiar to me yesterday when I ran by too, so I took a picture and showed my mother after I got back. It was the kindergarten I went to, as we used to live in this area and moved when I was 6. Crazy, I recognised it. That, and the water fountains were the most memorable parts of my run .

Morning everyone!
Got in another 4 (09"02).
Getting back into a routine here...
Have a nice Wednesday!10 -
Oh yeah, 86F @ 4:52am this morning! It just keeps getting better and better 🥵
7 miles this morning.

August 2 - 4.77 miles
I met friends for a track workout this morning. Don't hate on me, but it was 63F when I ran at 5:00 am. (It was 59F when I left my house at 4:00 am but I live in the country and at a higher elevation than the city where we ran.)
@AlphaHowls - Question of the month. My current time waster is watching YouTube vlogs of Appalachian trail thru-hikers. I've been following a few people since they started their journeys months ago. Two of them have summitted Mt. Khatadin and I miss their daily updates!6 -
You're a math genius @chris_in_cal ! Great job on the streak. If you decide to continue, do take it easier on some days. Most of us need the "break." @AlphaHowls seems to be the exception.
@shanaber Walking around Target is a great way to get in some exercise without sweating. When I was in OH, my husband and I were mall walkers. They opened them early just for walkers. That was sort of fun. Do you have malls near you who do that? I hope things go well. Glad you are lurking and commenting to keep us informed of how you are doing.
Great run @Laurz9191 . So fun that you recognized the building where you went to Kindergarten.
Nice on all points @tarun_yadavA !
Wow. That's awful @Scott6255 ! Did it get any cooler toward sunrise?
Nice run @Teresa502 ! I love the cooler mornings we are having.
The thing that I waste a lot more time than I should on is games on my phone. Right now it's Wordscape. I try to tell myself it's healthy for my brain, but I know it's not when I do that instead of going to bed when I should.5 -

Photo Justice! I learned a new setting on my phone and it helped me with my moon shot!

August Goal: 125 Miles
8/1: 6.26 miles
8/2: 5.57 miles
11.83/125 miles completed for AugustOh yeah, 86F @ 4:52am this morning! It just keeps getting better and better 🥵

@Laurz9191 It always kind of surprises me how much finding some shade really helps.
@AlphaHowls Lovely photos! I need to learn how to take better pictures!

Well here we go for August. I am not sure but yesterday I was really irritable and then tired and I woke up really tired today. Like fatique but it wasn't like I had actually done anything intense over the weekend. hmmm. I think it is almost cyclical once or twice a year even tho I am way past that particular cycle.
Perhaps it is just the heat and the stress of wondering when (not if) the AC will crash?
The full moon was beautiful this morning but I decided not to go back to get a photo since I probably would have just walked. Nice shots @AlphaHowls what setting did you find?
Yes those on the injured/reserve PLEASE keep checking in....
My time waster seems to be running shoe shopping. I actually bought a second pair of the ON running shoes different style and it is absolutely CRAZY how much more comfy they are and easier to get on. I decided to use the first pair (Ghost style) for tennis and they are very nice that way - supportive but bouncy. This second pair doesn't run as fast as my nikes but I like them. Cloud GO style. It makes me realize when folks get stuck on a particular brand or hating a particular brand that it's probably because they haven't looked at all the styles.6 -
Hello everyone! My goal this morning was to keep my pulse down. It’s been quite high due to the heat and Garmin has been giving me a hard time about it since summer started . My daughter has been asking to come with me, so I took her for a loop around the neighbourhood first, then went on to do the rest of the run on my own. I will try to do that more often if she wants to. Other than that the run was uneventful. Tomorrow I will try to keep the same slower pace . To me that is more challenging than running at a faster pace.
@AlphaHowls My big time waster is scrolling Facebook. I think I was initially embarrassed to admit it, but there it is. It wastes time, I don’t learn anything from it, and I guess I wish I didn’t do it so much/at all .
Today I ran 7.2km, so 17.4/150km for August.8 -
Next year we need to rename this the "2024 August Sit in a Cool Pool Challenge"8

On my phone, when I tried to take the photo, it asked me if I wanted to take a night shot. Then instructs me to keep still while it processed (seconds)

August 1: Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 1.50 miles
August 2: Wun 3.00 miles - driveway after mowing my lawn - yellow jacket stings
5.50/80 mile goal
The grass was dry this morning, which rarely happens, so I was able to get out and mow before it got horribly hot (even though our high today is lower than TX lows these days). I mowed my daisy patch for the first time this year (they are all gone) and got stung by a yellow jacket. It got me on the ankle, where the Achilles is. I swished it off, but it decided it wasn't through with me yet, so flew up and got me on the back too. It's painful. Every step hurts, but then just sitting hurts too. It has been 3 hours and it still hurts like the dickens in both spots! Anyway, I did finish with the mowing. I put a baking soda paste on the spots, but it didn't help much.
Since I was hot and sweaty already, I decided to go ahead and get in my miles for the streak, so did a wun on the driveway. I didn't have the energy for a run, but did do a 3 mile wun. Avg pace was 14:48 min/mile. Avg HR was 128 with a max of 148 bpm.
I'm going to try to put some ice on the stings and see if that helps. I've had yellow jacket stings before, but they didn't hurt like this, that I recall, or last this long. Crazy! If you have any suggestions, I'll take them.7 -
@chris_in_cal wrote: »Next year we need to rename this the "2024 August Sit in a Cool Pool Challenge"
As long as it is not the pool (ice lakes) @polskagirl01. I have a fear heart stopping shock!0 -
Hahahaha @AlphaHowls ! Lovely shots of the moon!
@kgirlhart Nice run and glad the lady didn't mind you running through her sprinkler. I don't know how you and @Scott6255 run in those temps....and anyone else in TX or where it is super hot.
I hope you feel better soon @SummerSkier ! It's hard to get out and run when you feel fatigued just getting out of bed.
@Laurz9191 That's great that your daughter is wanting to run with you. How old is she? Great running. I think they need a Facebook anonymous. LOL I limit my FB time, but do try to keep up with family that is scattered across the country.

Sounds like ground nesting hornet, as called complete a$ $holes.
Ban roll on deodorant, always keep handy
I have used apple cider vinegar to take sting out
I was attacked by 10 of them a few years back. Or same one 10 times. I ended up on benadryl and steroids

August Goal: 125 Miles
A little bragging for our challenge-mate. I was in a July garmin challenge with 149 participants, our @kgirlhart came in 1st.

The weather is a carbon copy of misery for the next 10-12 days so I will likely start splitting my runs.
Oh gosh, this is how I would describe the weather here. But it's cold (some mornings I feel like turning the heating on because it's just 18C inside), stormy, randomly starts raining or hailing several times per day with the occasional thunder inbetween. Want to swap?
Yes! 18C sounds amazing! We always want what we don't have I guess.3 -
Aug total: 8.9/100 miles
8/1: 5.6 miles
8/2: 3.3 miles
Treadmill run after work today. I was barely sweating afterwards, which is a new feeling after the dripping wet runs the last few months. I did an ifit run through a trail in Japan. It was beautiful. It's hard for me to motivate myself to run after work but the ifit workouts help. It gives me something to pay attention to and I like seeing new places.6 -

Good times, my plan today was for some intervals...I googled the nearest high school and went and snuck on the track.
It's been years, it was fun.

Morning all
Got in a 10K this morning (08"58).
Same - total Facebook and Strava stalker. (LinkedIn leaves a 'footprint' - PersonX viewed your profile - so learnt the hard way not to look up an ex girlfriend on that platform! Lol). Not on the 'gram tho ... Lol
Have a great day all.8 -
congrats @kgirlhart1

Thanks for all the welcomes! I don't know how you all keep up with this thread--I'm going to need a process for remembering everything I want to say.
@quilteryoyo That sounds awful--no advice, but lots of well wishes! I can't believe you did a wun after that!
@Laurz9191 I'm so glad your daughter was interested in running with you. My 6 year old has asked to join the run club at school this year--I wonder if he'd like to do a little running with me as well. The problem is, he tends to sprint like crazy until he has to stop to catch his breath then do it all over again. I can't keep up with him!
W1D2 in the books--only 77 degrees! Woo! On this run I was thinking about how different it is to do a C25K style ramp up when aerobically fit than it was the first time I started running (or all the other times I've returned to running after a long lay-off). The one-minute intervals feel so short to me this time, like I'm just getting my stride worked out and all of the sudden it's time to walk! I actually accidentally did 1.5 minutes of running during the cool down because I wasn't paying attention and figured it was another run interval. That never would have happened to me before!
(Also, I was remembering that the first time I started running, I did it with a stop watch for the intervals, recorded the run on paper, and held a walkman in my hands the whole time! I had to make a strap to put around the walkman so I wouldn't accidentally drop it and pull the headphones painfully off of my ears. (It had a belt clip, but was way too heavy to wear that way.) So different!)

First run for the month yesterday. It took me a few days to decide if I was going to go for 50 miles again this month or not because we have an 9 day trip to France from next Wednesday and there won't be any running because we are driving somewhere different almost every day. But why not, I may not make it but will give it my best shot. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. It feels strangle and exciting
02/08 3.65 miles
3.65/50 miles
Monthly Question: I think I waste most of my time WhatsApping my sisters or googling stuff that comes into my head

August Goal: 125 Miles
8/1: 6.26 miles
8/2: 5.57 miles
8/3: 5.12 miles
16.95/125 miles completed for August
Thanks @chris_in_cal , @Scott6255 and @tarun_yadavA ! 😊
Happy Anniversary @Mari33a !
Today I got out for another hot morning run. I ran 5 miles today. I got out a little late and missed all the sprinklers. It wasn't a bad run, just hot and otherwise uneventful. I almost had negative splits, but I slowed down on the last mile.
@quilteryoyo I am not naturally a morning person. But the only way I have found to deal with the heat is to get up early and run before the sun is up. I hope you are feeling better after the hornet stings.
@SummerSkier I hope you are feeling better today and aren't coming down with something.
As for the monthly question: My biggest time wasting activity is probably just scrolling on my phone. I'll think of something that I want to look up and the next thing I know I have spent an hour going down rabbit holes looking up all kinds of stuff.
