@polskagirl01 - You and I are both hanging out for the friendship and encouragement and I think there are others who are too but just not posting. It is just such a great community!
@polskagirl01 .... I'm still here for the friendship, as some of us have been in this group for several years and counting. And maybe I still have a sliver of hope. Plenty of people have randomly recovered. Others haven't. No one really knows.
@AlphaHowls - those night shots are amazing! So clear with that setting that you found! I am wondering if there is anything similar on the iPhone - will have to do some research. Also I hope you are safe from the flooding! That looks pretty intense. Are the elephants all safe from it? [/quote]
We build support in our lives, the threads of our lives are now intertwined. You do not untie yourself just because your path changed. Grow where you are planted.
HAHAHA! The elephants think this is the greatest thing ever! They do not have to wait for me to pull hoses out to bathe them! Kermit, Robin and Gizmo were also out there singing. Robin left me some babies that I have been watching. I love watching the little tadpoles grow!

Yeah for your walks @shanaber ! I hope the kitchen renovations get done quickly and correctly this time.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Try to not overdo too much at your mom's. I think you need a lock for her refrigerator and freezer. (One you don't have a key to.)
Nice run @Scott6255 !
I love that you split up your runs @martaindale. Happy Birthday to your husband. Most birthday's don't bother me either, but I did run my first 10K when I turned 50, I think to prove to myself that I wasn't really old. LOL
@polskagirl01 Glad to see your walk. Your husband did a great job! Those flowers are beautiful!
@AlphaHowls The camera setting made such a huge difference! Great running. We've had some flooding like that this past week. I hope it wasn't too bad and drains soon. Love your back yard, btw!
@shanaber Laughed at hoping your new orchid will encourage to old one to bloom. I hope it works though.4 -
August 1: Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 1.50 miles

August 4: Walk 1.00 mile - Ran 6.40 miles - treadmill (birthday run)
August 5: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill
August 6: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill
August 7: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill
August 8: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill, mowed, and sawed wood
August 9: Walk 1.50 miles - Ran 1.50 miles - driveway laps after tennis
August 10: Walk 2.00 miles - driveway laps
August 11: Walk 1.50 miles - Ran 4.00 miles - treadmill - Also weed eat for 50 min later
August 12: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill - played 2h26m25s of singles tennis (traversed 1.90 miles)
35.90/80 mile goal
I played tennis singles this morning for nearly 2.5 hours. Garmin said it was 73F (22.8C) but also 89% humidity, so it got pretty miserable pretty fast. I lost the first set 2-6, but lots of duce games in there. The second set got tied at 5-5 and we decided the next game would be the winner. We were both done. I won that one.
Rested when I got home, did some errands, and then did a 2 mile walk on the treadmill. I just didn't have the energy for a run.
Since we're doing differences in camera settings, below are a couple from my birthday dinner last night...two of which will show the magic of magic erase on the Pixel 8 phone.
A picture of the dam at Amis Mill.
Same picture after Magic eraser and a minor cropping.

Morning all.
Got in another 5Miler (08"59).
@Scott6255 thanks for the kind words. I'm trying not to get carried away... Though think I should regulate longer distance/speed ones with some slower ones. Sat out the running club this weekend.
@quilteryoyo haha! The carnage wasn't too bad. There was a cinnamon roll after lunch. I knew that was coming so I just had one piece of toast with my eggs instead of two (doesn't cancel out but lessens blow). There was mint choc chip ice cream in the freezer so had that after dinner. Don't know about anyone else... But once I've had mint (and dark choc mint at that), I struggle to eat/enjoy anything sweet after that. Like you can't go from dark choc mint to say, a white twix? Right?? (Or it's just me lol)
Happy Sunday!
PS: *one of my Top5 desserts... Has to be that Cinnamon Swirl Cinnabon Cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory! 🤤7 -

@tarun_yadavA Don't hate, but I am not a mint person, so would pass on the dark chocolate mint. White twix sounds good though.0
-
@quilteryoyo no nothing to hate on! 😊
I love white chocolate... Not a lot of desserts I dislike TBH
Just saying once you got that minty flavour in your mouth, it's hard to switch to something else2 -
Asked no one...
My Top5 desserts if I was on death row.
(Leave it upto the Warden to pick)
(In no particular order)
5. Cinnamon Swirl Cinnabon Cheesecake;
4. Haagen Dasz Pralines n Cream;
3. (Sticking with ice-cream types) Pistachio Gelato;
2. 🇲🇽 Tres Leches 🍰
1. Anything almond-y... Almond croissant 🥐, Bakewell, marzipan
Fight me. lol

Do you get dessert on death row or just that final main meal? I never thought about it. I did think about if I was given only so long to live if I would just go crazy and eat all the things or what I would do. It seems like I might but then I remember how crappy that makes me feel and think do I want my remaining time to be crappy?
Sorry I have not checked in too much this month but I have been following because I feel like we are all family to some extent. And even when we are ill and injured posting updates is definitely a good thing! I did join Strava (free version I think) and it seems like it's a huge community all on it's own.
I did not publish a goal for this month but I did complete Run the Year and our team also completed double the miles so far (me, Kgirl and Quilter). I probably should up the team to 3x but it's nice to have reached the goal even tho it's early. In reality with intentional miles I am not finished yet tho. 😊😂🥹😳
I am enjoying all the stories and photos tho so keep them coming. Altho not sure a raccoon turning and running toward me would is a fun one. I don't like my heart rate going up that fast when a dog jumps out at me or there are monsters. thankyouverymush.

Attempted to run a bit more relative to walking. Result? I ran too fast and had to give up. Ho hum. Big meh of the day: the battery of my external HR sensor was empty the moment I started running. No problem, watch has onboard hr. Still slightly annoying. Very nice weather today: While still somewhat warm the air is currently rather dry and has a fresh quality to it, compared to yesterday where humidity felt like a very soft drizzle. No running yesterday thus. Could not be bothered.7 -
@AlphaHowls thank you for your kind words 🥰
Friendly Fire Incident!!! The Squash Army has suffered losses as a result of a pre-teen who "Didn't know that was the Squash Army😲!" and mowed down the part of it that was reaching out into the yard. I was too sad to take a picture and didn't want to overemphasize what was truly a mistake... Anyway, there's still a lot left, including flowers, so all is not lost. A new recruit has also signed on, after being discovered doing training exercises alone in a nearby flower pot.
No workout for me today. Took a 2-hour nap though! I'm thankful for good sleep.12 -

@tarun_yadavA - I love dark chocolate and mint. When I traveled to Montreal for work a few times I was delighted to discover dark chocolate mint KitKats! I bought as many as they had and stuffed my bags with them. I still have not seen them here.
I love how you got a few runs in while on vacation and now have jumped right back into your training. I do think it is a good idea to mix up your runs in distance and speed, some longer, some shorter, some really easy and definitely a bit of speed work.
@quilteryoyo - you amaze me with all you do, tennis, yard work and running! Those pictures are great and that erase feature is pretty nice!
I did find out that the iPhone (the later models) adjusts automatically for low light and you can also adjust it manually.
@SummerSkier - you are another one, running so much and in the heat and also playing tennis, amazing me! Is your back feeling better?
Congratulations on completing Run the Year so early - 🤩 WoW! 🤩
@polskagirl01 - oh no on the squash army! I wonder if the mowed ones may reroot and grow anew? If not this year they may surprise you next year?? Glad you have a new recruit!
Desserts and general food discussion... I am not a huge dessert fan, occasionally pie, esp during the holidays or a homemade cookie. Re: being able to eat as much and/or what would you eat and would you... I am sort of in that spot. I need to eat, need to not lose anymore weight and was told by the dietician to just eat whatever sounds good. The problem is something may sound good but I can't eat much (and I feel crappy) or nothing sounds good, even things that in the past might have been at the top of my list for a last meal. I'm trying but today I am down another 3 lbs.
Got in a longer walk today - 2.7mi. It was a lovely morning so Hobbes and I headed out for what was ostensibly going to be a short walk depending on how I was feeling. Went out and around a bit to avoid dealing with a rambunctious puppy and ended up going up the overpass hill. Can tell I have lost muscle and strength cause my glutes and legs were feeling it just on that little hill. I didn't feel well yesterday so my plans for walking and strength training went out the window but I am happy to have felt so good today. Hoping not to overdo things tomorrow so I can take Hobbes to agility class tomorrow evening.8 -

@AlphaHowls I like your creeper, and your dessert list (except the banana pudding, I'll leave that one for you). I especially tend towards dark chocolatey sweets myself. Especially good quality chocolate. Caramel and peanut butter may also be added.

August Goal: 125 Miles
8/1: 6.26 miles
8/2: 5.57 miles
8/3: 5.12 miles
8/6: 11.26 miles
8/8: 6.26 miles
8/9: 6.02 miles
8/10: 6.04 miles
8/13: 10.26 miles
56.79/125 miles completed for August
I ran 10.25 miles this morning. I tried to get up early, but I didn't get out the door until about 7:15. It was still the coolest part of the day at 84° F feels like 89°, and it was 90° F feels like 95° at the end. We're at 107° now. I am ready for some fall temperatures. The run was ok though. I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. I did have another encounter with the mean dog near my house. I wasn't even running in front of his yard, I was a block over at the school. He ran at me and it really scared me. I got away, but I did call the police department and reported him. They said they would let animal control know in the morning. I just hope he doesn't attack anyone at the school. It is a pre-K thru 2nd grade elementary school.
@alphahowls That racoon sounds even scarier than my terrier.
I definitely consider all of you in this group to be friends. Sometimes I forget that I don't actually know any if you in real life. I am not always good about commenting, but I always read and like and hug.
I have a definite sweet tooth. I'm not sure I could narrow my favorites down to 5, but here goes, in no particular order.
1. Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs
2. Chocolate Cake (just about any kind, but especially my mother-in-law's chocolate sheath cake)
3. Strawberry Cake
4. My sister's mother-in-law makes a chocolate mousse dessert. She brings it to all the family gatherings and it is awesome. We just call it Treta's Mousse. I have had similar desserts, but no one else makes it as good as she does.
5. Key Lime Pie
The list really goes on. I like most desserts as long as they don't have coconut or raisins. I do find that I don't feel good if I eat too much in one sitting.
I feel like I need to add brownies to the list. And also ice cream. 😊
@polskagirl01 I am sorry about the squash army. They are pretty resilient though so there is hope yet.
@shanaber I am glad you are starting to feel better. I hope you and Hobbes are able to go to agility tomorrow.

My top 5 desserts
1. Eton Mess
2. Eton Mess
3. Eton Mess...
I am not a fan of chocolate which rules a lot of things out.
Seeing you guys running in that heat, I can't decide if you are amazing or bonkers! I would guess a good mix

Morning all
Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
I got in a 6.5M run (09"09).
@summerskier well aren't you the budget cutting party pooper lol
(I think you're right... I could be wrong but I think most states that have the death penalty did away with the final meal thing)
@shanaber thanks for the kind words! I like to 'Run see' ... Get those steps in, get a sweat on and take a few selfies of significant landmarks all in one go!
We did have Mint KitKats here as a limited edition... Was it the big chunky one or the smaller two finger/four finger ones? I'll keep an eye out
@AlphaHowls molasses cookies sound interesting. Like a caramel-y sugar cookie? Is it chewy or crunchy?
Banana pudding... Southern style... yes Ma'am! Had in Birmingham Alabama whilst on my Roadtrip. Went down a treat after copious beers then BBQ smothered in white sauce! 😊
@kgirlhart key lime pie! Yesss!
(Though I do love coconut!) Love Bounty chocolate bars here (I think you guys have it branded as Almond joy !)
@themrwobbly had a limited edition Eton Mess Magnum Ice-cream bar? Does that count lol4 -
@tarun_yadavA wrote: »@AlphaHowls molasses cookies sound interesting. Like a caramel-y sugar cookie? Is it chewy or crunchy?
Chewy Ginger Molasses Cookies

Aug 2 – 4.77 miles
Aug 4 – 3.28 miles
Aug 5 – 4.34 miles
Aug 6 – 8.02 miles
Aug 8 – 4.01 miles
Aug 9 - 4.26 miles
Aug 14 – 4.01 miles
Good Monday afternoon! Hope everyone had a great weekend. I took a vacation day on Friday and hiked 20 miles with 4,455 feet of elevation gain on the Appalachian Trail, camped overnight, and hiked another 17 miles with 2,324 feet of elevation gain on Saturday. I took Sunday as a rest day unless you count washing my car and cleaning inside also which I’m counting because I was a sweaty mess when I finished! This morning, I did my cross training workout and then ran 4 miles.
Welcome @nevermore6617!
I hope your treatments are going well @shanaber. Glad you felt like getting a walk in and I hope that you continue to feel strong and can find something that appeals to your taste buds.
@polskagirl01 – Traveling and changing time zones is so hard on the body. I hope today finds you feeling more “normal.” What a beautiful orchid! Hope the squash army can regroup and continue forward!
@quilteryoyo – Amis Mill is a beautiful setting for a restaurant. Have you ever run the Amis Mill 10K? It starts and ends at the restaurant (including breakfast afterwards)
Congrats on completing/not completing Run the Year @SummerSkier!
As for the dessert talk, yes...I love every single thing mentioned! I once played a pass-the-time game where you are asked if you could only have one food for the rest of your life what would it be. One person said salmon. Another said baked potato. I said cake.
8 -
That is true @tarun_yadavA .
You are doing great @SummerSkier ! Congratulations to us. 😝
It's a learning process @yirara . You're doing great.
@polskagirl01 Sorry about the squash army. Sounds like they lost a battle with the lawnmower, but they haven't lost the war. With new recruits, I hope you still have plenty. 😜
@AlphaHowls That is a little creepy. I'm with you on the Southern style banana pudding.
@shanaber You are doing great! I hope you can find something that you can eat. That must be hard. Do you like peanut butter? I can eat that often when nothing else sounds good, but I've never been in your situation either.
@kgirlhart I don't know how you run so much in those temperatures! I love this group so much. Great friends.
Speaking of which, do any of you who have been here a while know anything about the lady who lives in Hawaii that used to post all the time. Is she anywhere near the fire?
You can do it @TheMrWobbly . I have no advice though.
I was recently asked what my favorite dessert was for my birthday. New York style cheesecake, plain, is my favorite. A real close second is carrot cake, moist and without raisins. After that, I'm not sure. My husband and I used to make a dump cake that was amazing and I've had this thing called Death By Chocolate that is fantastic, even though chocolate is not my favorite thing to eat. I also love Southern style banana pudding and a good German chocolate cake. I love my mom's apple cake without any icing though. She thinks I'm weird. 🤣6 -
@tarun_yadavA - it was the smaller two finger/four finger bars. If you like dark chocolate with coconut the bar in the US is a Mounds - also one I love.
@TheMrWobbly - going to have to look up Eton Mess... have no idea what that is.
@kgirlhart - Thanks - I love PB and make my own because I like it fresh with just peanuts and nothing else. I like to have a toasted waffle with PB and honey or toast with PB and a banana sliced on top. I just have to be careful about all the fat but my body seems to be slowly adjusting to it.
After being totally and completely exhausted last night I woke up feeling great. Dare I say, normal?? So certainly no ill affects of overdoing. Today will be errands and agility! I haven't been to agility in 2 months. DH has been taking Hobbes so he can run with with one of the other people in class. Hope he will still want to run with me!8 -
tarun_yadavA wrote: »Had in Birmingham Alabama whilst on my Roadtrip. Went down a treat after copious beers then BBQ smothered in white sauce! 😊
What the what?!? I have to assume you mean gravy. But BBQ is not served with gravy. Sometimes with a bbq sauce that is a dark red-brown color, a little smoky, maybe spicy. I have no idea what you ate but the idea of bbq w gravy made me 🤢.
Desserts. I love dessert in general so I have to used very broad categories here.
1. Ice cream. Sometimes fruity, sometimes rich chocolate stuff.
2. Brownies. No frosting.
3. My mom's coconut cream pie.
4. Anything citrus. Lemon bars, key lime pie. Mmmm.
5. This banana macadamia nut cake that I make once a year for my FIL. It's my favorite cake of all time.5 -

Decided to do some kind of C25K, decreasing walking and increasing running. Today was 350m running and 150m walking all the way through. Obviously I was running too fast again. Too restless. Seems to be a common theme at the moment.7 -
@Teresa502 I have not run that race. It would probably be fun though. Do you know when it is? Not that I can't look it up. 🤣. Haha about the one food for the rest of your life.
@shanaber So glad you are feeling good, almost normal today. I hope you and Hobbes both enjoy agility class tonight!
Nice run @martaindale !
You'll get there @yirara .4 -
