@TheMrWobbly I had to look up Eton Mess, but when I did, I realized it's also a thing here. Very delicious! After being totally and completely exhausted last night I woke up feeling great. Dare I say, normal?? So certainly no ill affects of overdoing. Today will be errands and agility! I haven't been to agility in 2 months. DH has been taking Hobbes so he can run with with one of the other people in class. Hope he will still want to run with me!
My only activity for the day was grocery shopping (which honestly is an endurance event at this point) and a date with my husband. We sat outside at the coffee/sandwich shop, and were in the shade, but maybe should've stayed in the air conditioning. It's not *that* bad (high of 32°C/90°F), but still. Feeling very dizzy and tired, which is normal for me, but it has its ups and downs. Maybe it will get a little better when jet lag wears off. The nap I took probably didn't help with that. But of course I'm staying hydrated (+electrolytes), taking the supplements, doing the light and pressure therapies, taking it easy. And connecting with you folks 😁 sending likes and hugs as appropriate.8 -
@martaindale YES! All of a sudden it was dark when I ran this morning. I enjoyed a nice sliver of moon and saw a huge deathstarish ball of red Sun coming up. I never understand how it changes so quickly. Will also have to find my lights today...
and tomorrow for my birthday a COLD FRONT is supposed to be light north wind and temps low 70;s. I ran 6.5 today to celebrate tomorrow being 65 birthday but maybe I should have waited? I just like to grab it while the grabbing is good because tomorrow I might feel crappy.5 -
@martaindale - I had the same thought on @tarun_yadavA's post about the BBQ. Only thing I could think of was chicken fried steak with country gravy and he thought it was BBQ or it was served along with BBQ? 😂 😂
@AlphaHowls - while 'normal' may be a stretch goal since I wasn't before, it is nice to not feel like I have been run over by a truck recently 😁
@polskagirl01 - so glad you got to have a date with your husband and sit outside a bit even though at 90 I would say that is hot. I am a firm believer that getting out in the sunshine, works wonders for jet lag and getting your body back into its circadian rhythm.
On all the food comments - I think we may need to have a recipe section... Molasses Ginger Cookies, Banana Macadamia Nut cake - yum! I also love lime bars! our neighbor has a very prolific lime tree, more than they or there family can use so lime bars! I also have a family and friend favorite that is requested all the time but one that isn't my favorite because it it way too sweet for me, Rocky Road Fudge Bars with brownie base, a baked in cream cheese nut middle, followed by melted chocolate chips and of course melted marshmallows and more chocolate on top.
It seems the Eton Mess is like what I would call a trifle here or even a berry shortcake.

Happy 65 @SummerSkier 🎉🎈🎂
Yes, getting a 'cold' front tonight. It finally dropped below 100F here today, but tonight it is still going to be 81F. BUT.. Wednesday morning supposed to be 73F! 🤯 So planning to run outside Wednesday morning.
Did 6 TM miles today. Dug the Kinvaras out of the closet and changed shoes halfway through. They felt quite a bit better than they did the first time I tried them. Will give them a try outside soon.

Yesterday was a long day. I got up earlier than usual in order to feed the neighbor's animals before going to church. I'm glad I decided to go before I got dressed in my Sunday best, because their rabbit had dug out from under it's pen. Fortunately, it was nearby and I was able to catch it fairly easily, but I had to carry it around until I could find something to plug the hole and put at the other corners so hopefully it won't try to dig out again. Got that done, and we went to church.
I came home and did a one mile walk on the treadmill. I hadn't slept much the night before and was really tired. I rested a few minutes, and then left to pick up mom and her two sisters and we went to a nearby town for my mom's great nephew's visitation and funeral. He passed from colon cancer and was only 48 year old. So sad. I was worn out by the time I got home, so didn't get on the computer to post about my day.
This morning, I got up early, fed the animals, and worked all day at the daycare. The class I was in had 10 2 - 3 year olds. They were really pretty good today, but you have to stay on your toes.
I did sleep better last night, but am still tired today, so I did a 2 mile walk on the treadmill after I got home.
Another reason I didn't run is that I am wanting to give my muscles another day to "rest" because I did a stupid thing yesterday on the treadmill. I felt like I was getting too close to the back of the treadmill, so sort of turned around to see how close I was getting as I walked. I must tell you, it isn't a very good idea to look behind you when the treadmill is going. I almost fell, but was thankfully holding onto the handrails. I twisted weird though. I feel okay when walking, but yesterday I felt a couple of twinges after sitting for a while. I figure another day of walking isn't going to hurt anything.7 -
@AlphaHowls You're normal certainly isn't my normal. I don't think any of us are "normal," but we have "our normal".
@polskagirl01 Sounds like a nice day. I hope you start feeling better soon.
Great running @SummerSkier ! Happy Birthday tomorrow. Hey, nothing says you can't do two birthday runs. Right?
Great running @Scott6255 ! Glad you are going to have some cooler mornings coming up.5 -
Many happy returns @SummerSkier , have a great day!
Breaking in a pair of shoes today, about time as they are two years old! A bit monochrome but there we are.
Half way through the month though not half way through the target!

Morning everyone!
Got in a 6K (09"03).
First off... Happy birthday @SummerSkier I hope you have a lovely day! 😊
@martaindale , @shanaber 🤷
White sauce is apparently their thing in AL.
Smothered on everything... Definitely the chicken 100%. (Had had about 6 at various breweries before rocking up there! Lol)
Think my favourite BBQ items are Ribs and the Jalapeno-cheddar sausage. Side: Coleslaw.
When I did my 48State Roadtrip... Had BBQ in 6 states... Thought NC was overrated and I love LOVE the late great Anthony Bourdain but his Kansas City tip didn't do it for me (maybe not a Burnt Ends person - so lost on me)
And yes everyone... Just like that... Dessert to BBQ lol6 -
Hmmm, I'm with @martaindale on this one. Have never heard of 'white sauce' on BBQ. Not sure what the base is, but just can't image it. Give me a spicy dry rub or sauce any day!
Did 8 miles this morning. It dipped below 80F, so HAD to go out and run😁
7 -
Cool shoes @TheMrWobbly . You're close to be half way to your goal. You can do it.
Great run @tarun_yadavA ! When did you do a 48 state BBQ tour? BBQ isn't my favorite food, so maybe I could do a 48 state Chicken Alfredo tour.
Nice run @Scott6255 !
Happy Happy Birthday @SummerSkier ! I hope you have a great day! For those who don't know, bON does, my mom's birthday is today too. She's 88 and going strong.4 -
@quilteryoyo happy 88th birthday to your mother! 😊
PS: it was a 48 State Roadtrip... Not specifically to eat just BBQ! Lol
I took a 3M sabbatical from work in 2021. Drove across Mexico for 2weeks and then a little over 8weeks doing all 48 in one go.
But did make it a point to hit up at least one of:
Bar / Brewery / Guy Fieri DDD episode in each state.7 -
Aug 2 – 4.77 miles
Aug 4 – 3.28 miles
Aug 5 – 4.34 miles
Aug 6 – 8.02 miles
Aug 8 – 4.01 miles
Aug 9 - 4.26 miles
Aug 14 – 4.01 miles
Aug 15 – 5.13 miles
I met a friend for 5 miles this morning. It was sprinkling rain but nothing major. We had some big storms roll through last night and were under tornado watches for a while. It was still pretty humid out there.
@quilteryoyo – I’m thinking keeping up with 10 2-3 year olds at day care was great training for rabbit capturing! I was working from home yesterday and my cat caught a chipmunk, brought it into the house, to the second floor where I was working and then let it go. Have you ever tried catching one of those in the house? About 30 minutes later, I finally captured it in a cat carrier and it stayed in it long enough for me to get it outside before squeezing through one of the holes in the carrier. Happy Birthday to your mom!
Happy Birthday @SummerSkier! Hope you have a great day celebrating!
Are those trail shoes @TheMrWobbly? Good looking tread on them.

At the present moment I'm living a spooky ghost story. I have a wifi scale at home. I jump on it, and it uploads the number to my app. It knows it's me because the weight is within +/- a small number since the last weigh in. If a tiny guest comes over and weighs, the app will message me "Unassigned weight? What would you like to do with this?"
I'm coming in at a svelte 240 nowadays. I just opened the app, and it said on Saturday morning at 1:30 a.m., there was an unassigned 209 lbs weigh in, what would I like to do with it?
I was asleep, ten feet away from the scale on Saturday night at 1:30 a.m.??????
Do ghost have mass?

@TheMrWobbly - thought this men was appropriate with your new shoes 😂

I didn't post yesterday, but I have decided to add a 5th day of running and run run at least one shorter run per week, so I ran 1.5 miles. It was a warm at 81°F. I saw a jackrabbit and some kids getting on the school bus, but otherwise it was uneventful.
But today it was GLORIOUS! It was 70°F. It actually felt cool. I got a little carried away and ran 7 miles. Honestly, I would have run more if I had had the time. I saw a little deer, and a skunk. I saw the cross country kids at the park, but they were loading up the bus by the time I got there. It was really dark starting out and for most of the run and the stars were really bright. It was just a beautiful, beautiful morning. It should be nice again tomorrow. We didn't hit 100 yesterday, and we are not supposed to get that hot today either. I know it won't last, but I am enjoying it while I can.
Happy Birthday @SummerSkier! I hope you enjoyed the wonderful weather! And Happy Birthday to your mom @quilteryoyo !
I had to google Eton mess, and I definitely think that is a dessert I would have to try. It looks delicious. I have never heard of Alabama white BBQ sauce, but I googled it too. I'm going to have to pass on that. Mayonaise on BBQ just sounds gross.
6 -
Thank you @tarun_yadavA ! That sounds like a great trip.
@Teresa502 . I'm glad you weathered the storms okay. I had actually gone to bed early and was awake until almost 3 because of all the storms rumbling through. No damage that I'm aware of, just lots of water. I would think catching a chipmunk would be hard. I'm glad you got it outside before it escaped the cage. Great running, BTW.
That's interesting @chris_in_cal . And a bit scary.

@kgirlhart riiiighhhtttt!?
Hahaha... Don't shoot the (tourist) messenger!
Have a word with your southern state cousin for being 'weird' (I thought it tasted good but whatever [then again - I had had 6 beers and IPAs prior!] ).

It might be really good. It just seems odd. But I am all for tasting different foods.2 -
yall are the greatest.... This thread has me laughing so hard... I do like sour cream on my BBQ (think fajitas) but mayo.. probably not. Hmm. we do put mayo on hamburgers right?
I am still imagining Teresa's @Teresa502 cat thinking - "HA better you in the cage than me!"
Happy Birthday to your mom @quilteryoyo ! And thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. 💖💖 The dew point was WAY down this morning even though it wasn't cool so I guess that's why I ran so far and fast also. Of course it may have been the new Nikes and socks? Or more likely GPS was messed up with the north wind?
8 -
Happy birthday @SummerSkier!!
I came to the hill country this afternoon and the lows for the next few days looks amazing! I'm looking forward to some low 70's. It's been a while.
5 -
@tarun_yadavA - I love BBQ ribs but I also like burnt ends when done right. My DH has a smoker although he is supposed to be getting a new one and can't make up his mind what he wants. He makes wonderful ribs with dry rub and then just enough BBQ sauce to get caramelized - yum! Did you try any of the classic southern sides like greens or black eyed peas or even bbq beans?
I did laugh when I read what your 48 state tour included (bar, brewery, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives episode in each state!). My dh would love it! Most every state (not just in the South) has some version of their own BBQ to try now as well most have wineries too! We went to a winery in NJ and it was surprisingly good.
@quilteryoyo - Happy Birthday to your mom - she is amazing for 88!
@SummerSkier - besides getting your birthday run it did you do anything fun for your big day or eat something special? Hope it was great whatever it was!
@chris_in_cal - maybe you have a neighbor whose scale talked to yours? Or they stumbled drunk into your house, weighed themselves and realized they were in the wrong place and tiptoed quietly out? Whatever happened it is very strange!
@Teresa502 - so sweet that your cat brought you a present/buddy 😁 How on earth did you get it into the cat carrier? As a kid my brother had one he was keeping or planned to keep as a pet until our golden retriever puppy literally scared it to death. I don't think I have ever seen one in CA, maybe in Yosemite, maybe...
@kgirlhart - so happy you had a nice run! 70F sounds awesome after the heat y'all have been having!
No mayo on anything except maybe tuna salad for a sandwich or in potato salad. Some people do put it on French fries but I have never understood the attraction.
Agility update and pictures under the split...I made it to Agility Class with Hobbes and it was awesome to be there and see all my friends and their pups. Hobbes was beside himself, just plain stupid happy...He also ran SO well. I was slow but for the most part he stayed with me which is unusual for him. We made it through 5/6 runs and then I had, had enough. One of my friends volunteered to run him through his final run of the full course (see video below). We were both exhausted when we got home but I felt great then as well as all day today. Ok well a bit tired today...

I wanted to do something to "celebrate" mom's birthday. I wish I could say that I ran 8.8 miles, but quickly decided that wasn't going to happen. It would be nice if I was in good enough shape to run 9 miles on the spur of the moment. Maybe next year?
But, for today, I did a 3.5 mile wun (quarter mile intervals at 3.8/runs/3.8, etc. The runs were a ladder from 4.5 - 5.0 mph. It wasn't too hard. Just wanting to take it easy once again. My avg HR was 125 with a max of 1.50 miles. I ran a total of 1.50 miles and walked a total of 2.0 miles.
Why 3.5 miles? Answer in the spoiler, in case you want to try to figure it out before you get the answer. Also a non-related Tippy/weather story is included at no extra charge.Because of the year she was born - 1935.
I actually went to bed before 10pm last night, hoping for a good night's sleep. Well, when the storms kept rolling through every hour or so, that shot that. Tippy actually made me worry about the one that came through at around midnight. She doesn't sleep with me, but will sometimes come in and check on me (wake me up) to be petted and reassured that all is well. Then she may lay in the floor beside of the bed for a while or go back to the living room. When this storm was still pretty far away, she came in and made sure I was awake and knew about it. I needed to go the the bathroom, so went ahead and did that, in case the power went off. When I came back toward the bed, she was wanting to go into my walk-in closet. I opened the door and she ran in. I went back to bed and she came over and kept nudging my hand and wouldn't settle. I was beginning to worry that she knew that something bad was about to happen and we needed to take cover. I told her if it got bad, we'd get into the closet. Fortunately, we didn't have to. But, I was alert because I know animals can sense things we can't.7 -
Thanks @SummerSkier ! It was a great run, regardless.
Enjoy the hill country @martaindale !
@shanaber You and Hobbes both look so happy. No wonder you were tired if you did that 5 times! Glad you felt good today too! You are amazing. Thanks for the birthday wishes for mom.
3 -
Morning everyone!
Got in a 10K (09"14)
@SummerSkier hope you had a lovely day yesterday! What did you get upto? Partied hard on 6th?? Lol
PS: yes - mayo (or something mayo-based), minimum one side of the bun underneath the lettuce!
@quilteryoyo @shanaber thanks ladies! It was an awesome trip. Possibly best 10 weeks of my life exploring Mexico and the States! Yup... Hitting 40 and straight to midlife crisis lol.
Also- love Guy Fieri and those travel food programmes (everything from Bourdain down to those Man v Food eating challenges 🤣)7 -
Good morning All, if you receive a random request to allow Andrew W as a follower on Strava, that is me!
@Teresa502 yes, Asics Gel Sonoma trail shoes. Figured at my current weight best to have the extra stability, and I do tend to run through woods rather than stick to tarmac alone.
I wish my little pooch would look that satisfied @shanaber instead of staring at me as if I short-changed him after our walk.
Happy Wednesday everyone!
4 -
@shanaber so glad you are feeling up to running agility with Hobbes again. It shows that HE is happy too! He is like the Energizer bunny!
@quilteryoyo nice tribute run for your mom's birthday! Glad you and Tippy got through the storms. She is one smart doggie!
Woke up not feeling great. Kept thinking it would get better as I ate and got ready, but not so much. But surely after I started my warm up things would get better. They usually do. Nah. So reluctantly started the 3x1:00 intervals. Felt ok. Then came the 8x3:30 intervals. Struggled to average 7:30/mi. I honestly didn't think I would finish the last one, but after what felt like an hour, my watch buzzed telling me it was cool-down time. What a relief. Was so glad it was over. When I hit the stop button, I was at 8.8 miles. So I guess that was all meant to be @quilteryoyo. Tell mama yoyo happy birthday! 😁
7 -
Great run @tarun_yadavA ! I like food programs too, but not those with the really weird foods. They just make me gag.
Thanks @Scott6255 . I'm so sorry you struggled with your run and hope you are feeling better today. Thanks so much for running the 8.8 miles for mama yoyo! That made my morning.3 -
Hmmm, I'm with @martaindale on this one. Have never heard of 'white sauce' on BBQ. Not sure what the base is, but just can't image it. Give me a spicy dry rub or sauce any day!
Note to self: if ever at @chris_in_cal 's house, DO NOT step on his scale! 😆 I have no idea what happened with your mystery weigh-in, but wouldn't want to send my weight to someone's phone.
@Teresa502 seems to me we did have either a chipmunk or a squirrel come into the house when I was a kid. I'm thinking the open-all-doors and chase-out-with-broom method might be best.
I got home to find out there's a kitchen mouse... not cool. I've put a box of poison in place of it's nesting spot (my cleaning towels, uggh), but it's been spotted in the living room now... I opened the side door to give it a chance to exit, but in broad daylight, kinda doubt it will.
Walked to the parcel locker to pick up a package (supplements). I take things like creatine and BCAAs, which are geared towards athletes even though I just need the energy to live my life 😆8 -
@shanaber Hobbes looked like he was having a blast at agility class and he looks like a happy dog all knocked out on the chair afterwards!
@quilteryoyo Funny about tippy and the storm. Glad it turned out to be nothing major.

Aug total: 53.4/100 miles
8/1: 5.6 miles
8/2: 3.3 miles
8/5: 10 miles
8/7: 7 miles
8/10: 6 miles
8/11: 5.1 miles
8/12: 9.2 miles
8/14: 3.1 miles
8/16: 4.1 miles
Omg it felt so great this morning! 72F and only 50% humidity!! The highs are still over 100 here, but it cools down a bit more at night. And the lower humidity makes such a big difference.
I saw a jackrabbit and a buck group. Also saw a single doe that stood right by the road and watched me run by. She was probably five or six feet away. Some of the deer out here are a little too tame!6
