I was gleefully splashed by Shamu as a child. We are savages. The heat got hot so they moved the shamus (they have eight) to exhibits, and no longer have them perform tricks.
I miss that pool. There are sections (all heated) where you can swim outside in the middle of winter, fun slides, nice recreational section, kiddie pool. Haven't found a comparable one in this area yet. Doesn't mean there isn't one; I just haven't looked much.
Recently I read a transcript of a talk from a professor in Germany who is proposing that Long-Covid patients can possibly avoid post-exertional malaise (PEM) by working out using very short intervals - like 10-30 seconds of exertion, followed by 30-60 seconds of rest. There's a long explanation of why, but I can't remember it all. So I tried it with exercises I could do while laying down, 30 seconds of leg lifts, bridges, etc, followed by just laying there for 30 seconds. I did this for about 10 minutes. Not having the greatest day, but also not my worst. I was able to cook a meal, do laundry, AND sit up for a few hours painting. I'm working on a picture of the mountains, and if it turns out ok, I'll share it here when it's done.11 -
I can't even imagine 1k miles on a pair of shoes. Maybe when I was younger and I wore them till the soles fell off. 😳🤣🤨
I was going to shoot for 120 for the month by doing a second run at lunch but it got too sunny and hot for a 2 per day so I did my 10 min strength training I am trying to commit to every other day. I will admit to continuing to watch the clock almost the entire time....
Was a nice run this morning with the full moon lighting the way and I got to watch it sink into a ghost at the horizon. And it was a little cooler but still pretty humid. I know that folks think Texans are crazy but most of us DO NOT RUN in the sun when it's over 100. We get up and run before the sun comes up and it's high 70's. It is still hard with the dew point sometimes mid 70s but it's not running when it is over 100 deg.
And the month is a wrap!

@polskagirl01 - is that pool by any chance used for diving competitions or training? We have one similar here where they can watch how a diver enters and completes their dive from underwater. My daughter also competed in water polo in a pool where some of the officials monitored from below to catch the foul play that can't really be seen from above. It is a really mean sport and amazing what goes on under the water.
That is interesting about the intervals - I hope it works!
Lots of great running for everyone, especially those managing with heat and storms! Even if you didn't make your goal you got out there and ran!
I was hoping to get out and get the last couple of miles to get me to 20 for the month but I haven't felt great the last few days so I did what was best and rested. On to September!
I took some pictures of the Super Blue Moon but they didn't turn out great. It was so incredibly bright though - wow! Entirely lit up our back yard like there was a spot light on.Saturn was supposedly visible near the moon so I am thinking the small white dot on the upper right may be it since it is in both my pictures even though taken at different times.

145/125 miles completed for August
I ran 7 miles again today to finish out August with 145 miles. It was another really pleasant morning. The moon was gorgeous and the temperature was really nice. It was about 70°F and just felt good. I made my goal and then some. I'll see you all over in the September thread. Thanks for setting it up for us @alphahowls.

7.3 miles this morning. Took my Kinvaras out to the road for more than a few miles for the first time. For whatever reason, they felt SO MUCH better than they have before. They felt light and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised 😁

@polskagirl01 well let's just say I'm doing the batsh!t crazy stuff for the two of us right now. Slowly, very slowly, but I'm doing it lol.
The functional strength training I'm doing atm kind of follws that sort of interval philosophy... it's 3 or 4 rounds of 7 or 8 exercises, usually 30-40 seconds of each. I thought it was ridiculous at first but hey, it works!9 -
This week I've been trying to decide which distance to run for my September 30th race. Initially I was going to register for the 27 mile, but was thinking it would be better to register for the 20 mile instead. I haven't trained enough for a 27 mile and by doing the 20 mile I could sleep 30 minutes longer due to the staggered start. It made all the sense in the world...20 miles it is!
But a funny thing happened on the way to check out....I noticed that the 27 mile and the 20 mile had the same registration fee of US$70....hmmm....so I looked at the cutoffs and the 27 mile race has a loose 9 hour limit....Yeah, I could do that, and if I end up hiking for the last half, that's great training for my next hundo....right? Oh, it will be painful, and I will regret this decision, but so be it...I'm in for 27 miles.
Now, having registered, I need to do some targeted training for the next...checks calendar...4 WEEKS! Oh crap...I won't even have time for a taper. I've averaged just 20 miles per week over the last four weeks, most of it on flat terrain. Time to cram in some elevation.
To that end, my final run of August was 4 miles of hill repeats on the local sledding hill. 30 times up and down for a total gain of 1750 feet. Since it was my first time hitting this hill since June I took it easy by doing slow runs down and deliberate hikes up. My average pace was 17:33/mile, but my GAP was 10:54
Here's a look from the top and bottom
I finished the month with 70 miles. See you in September!

@scott6255 I bought some Kinvara 12's for the first time last summer when I found them on sale for $60. When they arrived and I saw the minimal outsole and felt how light they were I didn't think they'd hold up.
They felt great from the start. So much so that I bought 3 more pair (for $45 per pair!). My concerns for not holding up were unwarranted. That first pair now has 360 miles on them and still going strong. My average road shoe gets just 324 miles and the most I've gotten out of a pair is 376 (Brooks Launch), so these will probably take the distance crown in a week or two.

Welcome @cath_loves_to_run !
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . I'm trying to find time to play with it a little. Maybe this weekend.
Ouch @Mari33a ! I hope the toe isn't too bad.
Amazing running @Teresa502 . You had such an active month.
@7lenny7 I'm glad the calf niggle resolved itself. Sorry to hear about your fall. I hope it is nothing serious. I would worry about a cracked rib, so be careful. A three beer day is not conducive to running.
@Laurz9191 You did great. I hope you have fun at your race tomorrow.
Nice running @kgirlhart.
@polskagirl01 I probably wouldn't swim in that pool unless I wanted to make people laugh at my non-existent form. You are doing great at doing what you can. I hope the short interval workouts work out for you.
@shanaber Smart to not push it too hard. You are doing great!
Love all the pictures of the super moon.
I was behind again, so didn't comment on everyone, but you all did amazing this month! See you in Sept thread.

Had a busy last couple of days. I wouldn't have run as much yesterday had I not needed it to make my goal. I guess that is why goal setting is important. I did take it easy though, since I was going to play tennis 2 hours later.
That's a wrap for August. Hard to believe it is September already!
Sometimes I feel bad that I'm not running more than I am, but I figured up my "other" activities for the month and spent 19h04m38s playing tennis and mowing the lawn, traversing 11.65+ miles.6 -

...and keeping this thread in check. From the outside your efforts seem remarkable. Ultimately if you are keeping healthy, and thriving, you are a winner.5 -
