46.53/125 miles completed for August
This morning when I left for my run at 5:45 it was 78°F feels like 82°, and when I got home an hour later, it was 77°F feels like 77°. Normally I wouldn't think that was cool, but after a couple of days of feels like 93° before dawn, it was nice. And it wasn't windy either. I ran the same 6 mile run today as I ran yesterday, but today it was actually a pretty pleasant run. I got out too late to hit the sprinklers at the courthouse, but I was able to hit the residential sprinkler that I have been hitting lately. The woman was coming out with her coffee right as I got there so I spoke to her and thanked her for letting me cool off. She was really nice and said "anytime". The only real downside to the run this morning was the grasshoppers. There have been tons of grasshoppers lately and today they kept hitting me and I stepped on a few which was really gross. There were several crickets too, but mostly grasshoppers.

@kgirlhart I really dislike grasshoppers. They are so big and jump in unpredictable ways. It feels like they are attacking. Always scare the scrap out of me!
@Scott6255 I feel for your brother. It seems like when storms like that roll through and cause a bunch of damage the construction crews get booked up so fast and it takes forever to get work done. I hope he has better luck than my neighbors. We still have houses on my street with tarps from fallen trees during that crazy storm we had last month!3 -
Aug total: 31.9/100 miles

8/2: 3.3 miles

This one was rough. The weather is the same. Hot, humid, gross. But today I threw legs that felt like absolute lead into the mix. I went to Pilates for the first time in about 6 weeks last night and it was such a hard workout! Though the DOMS has not set it in yet, my muscles are very fatigued and it was noticeable from the beginning of my run. Not to mention, despite eating my usual pre-run bar, my stomach was growling by the time I started running. So, I am hungry and my legs are tired and the weather sucks. There was very little to like about this run except that I got it done. Hopefully my legs will feel little bit better tomorrow. I made sure to take in some extra protein with a recovery shake this morning and do a little foam rolling before I came to work. Hopefully that will let them recover a little bit more today. Now I just have to make sure I get back to Pilates regularly for the next few weeks to build those muscles back up. It usually takes a few workouts before the soreness is not too bad.6 -
I’m training for a half-marathon in September and this is perfect to keep me motivated for this month. I’m doing 3 miles a day so far (walking, running, treadmill or outdoors depending on my mood) with a long run on the weekend so seeing all of you post your runs will give me a competitive boost 😁😁 today, I ran 3.5 miles this morning and the plan is to walk/run 1 mile on the treadmill in the evening (or more, if I find a good episode of Law and Order). Cheers!8

@nevermore6617 There's always Law and Order on somewhere! What race are you doing?0

I did a 2 mile driveway walk this afternoon. It was 77F (25C) and partly cloudy. But, it was 83% humidity, so I was still a pretty sweaty mess when I finished. AVG HR was 126 with a max of 143 bpm. I decided not to run because I am going to do my best to get up in the morning and get my run in early....hopefully 4 or 5 miles. We'll see.6 -
You are awesome @AlphaHowls ! I missed the "rabid racoon" until I saw @Teresa502 's comment. I'm glad you were speedy enough to outrun it.
@kgirlhart You are doing great with the runs this month. So many over 7 miles. Glad your run today was cooler. I'm glad the lady is happy for you to cool down in her sprinkler. The grasshoppers sound sort of apocalyptical.
@martaindale That sounds like a really tough run. Congrats on getting it done!
@nevermore6617 Welcome to this group. Sounds like you have a great plan for your HM.

@knotmel - take care of that achilles, they can be so hard to rehab. You might try a wrap with KT Tape or something similar for extra support when you do feel it might be ready. I found it helpful when I injured mine a while back. They're all kinds of videos on the KT site or on YouTube. This is one specific to achilles tendonitis
@AlphaHowls - so glad you got away from the rabid Rocky raccoon!
Well I am finally on the board for August with all of 1.68 miles! I felt good this morning so got out for our first walk since starting treatment on Monday. Cool low 70's and overcast with a chance of light rain.No haters please, we are going back to the heat next week. It did feel lovely just to be up and out!
I am continuing to live vicariously through all y'alls runs!8 -
Morning all
Got a 5 in (08"55).
@shanaber yayy for getting on the board!
@chris_in_cal nice pose!
Have a great weekend ... I'm not a big wine guy myself. (Beers/Breweries my jam... Whiskies/distilleries next).
Sideways... Not quite as raucous and toilet humour as Hangover or Road trip... But a great guys buddy movie. Very subtle and understated... And Paul Giamatti having a breakdown is awesome
Happy Friday all5 -

The DOMS has set in. Wow, I haven’t been this sore in a while. As rough as basic things like standing up, sitting down, and walking stairs are right now, running isn’t terrible. It took the good part of the first mile for my legs to start moving normally and my stride to feel right, but the running seems to help work out some of the soreness. Part of my warm-up are these skips. It was hilarious trying to do those this morning. My feet were barely leaving the ground. Absolutely no power in those muscles. Conditions were still gross this morning, but with my legs feeling less terrible and a bit of cloud cover, this run was better. My HR still crept up higher than I would have liked but overall lower than yesterday and I didn’t need walk breaks to keep it down.4 -
@shanaber Great walk and glad you had a cool-ish day for it. I hope you continue to feel well until your next treatment.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA !
Great run @martaindale ! Glad your legs loosened up after you got going. Funny that you can run, but can't walk or stand up. LOL I've had weird things like that happen too - sometimes my knees will hurt when I'm doing my warm up walk, but as soon as I start running, they feel great.1 -

I did not have time the other day to explain rabid raccoon. So here it is. I had just left the house, not even 50 yards. I see something cross the road in front of me, maybe 30 feet. My brain runs through pictures of what it was not and my mouth engaged (as usual). I tend to 'talk' to things I see. Now, this varmint is running away from me and I state, "I see you running!" That little monster immediately turned around and started for me. He was growling! He came running at me, no bigger than a volley ball! I saw that masked face, every hair on my body was standing out! I started telling him to "git" and back peddling. I did not dare turn my back on him. At about 3 feet of me, I could hear him snarling and I am still yelling at him. He suddenly turned and ran down the driveway I had just passed. I am now posthaste putting distance between us, but every hair on my body is standing and I am completely freaked out. I told two people later in the day, they both burst out laughing.9 -
Sorry I haven't been interacting. Not enough energy/"spoons"/anything. Short version of the story is I had enough of this summer and came home early. Time to regroup, try to rest my way back to my baseline (which I define as feeling "OK, as long as I don't do anything") and then reevaluate and decide what to do next. I suspect it's something like accepting my illness and figuring out how to make my best life with what I've got. What that looks like in practice... I'm not sure yet.
Squash Army Update!
I'm still not sure what it is. Butternut squash and pumpkin look very similar to me at this stage. The flowers are encouraging. I eliminated a few enemy slugs that were hanging around their base. So far, so good.10 -

4 miles! Well, still run/walk intervals. I probably ran for about 5km in total, mostly 300-400m running, and 150m walking. Until just over 5km where the strenuous physio (strength training) earlier this afternoon and the unexpected heat got the better of me. But my running intervals are getting longer.6 -
@polskagirl01 your yellow flowering looks awfully like the pumpkins I have (or should say had) growing in my backyard before these 2 months of 108F, no rain days.
Got in 6 TM miles today.

August 11: Walk 1.50 miles - Ran 4.00 miles - treadmill - Also weed eat for 50 min later
33.90/80 mile goal
I did a treadmill session today. I decided to do an easy, long run since I'm planning on tennis tomorrow and know I want get it done if I do. Plus, I'm going out for another birthday dinner tonight and I wanted to do something so I won't feel guilty about overeating. LOL
I did half a mile warm up walk and a mile cool down walk. The run was a run/walk of 10 min at 4.5 mph, 4 x (2/3 min at 3.8/4.5 mph), walk 5 min, 4 x (2/2 min at 4.5/3.8 mph), then 2/1/2:47 min at 4.5/3.8/4.5 mph. I was trying to keep my HR under 140 bpm. I did pretty good. My avg was 134 with a max of 147 bpm, but I was only over 140 about 5 min total. So 5.5 miles total....in exactly 1h 20m 30 s. I love when it comes up even numbers accidently.5 -
Wow @AlphaHowls ! So glad it turned before it got to you. That could have ended really badly!
@polskagirl01 I'm sorry to hear that it was too stressful for you to stay. Glad you made it back home safely and that your squash seems to be doing well.
You're doing great @yirara ! Nothing wrong with a wun (walk/run).
Great treadmill run @Scott6255 !5 -
@martaindale - hope the DOMs ease up soon!
@AlphaHowls - I would have been terrified of that raccoon too! I have heard that while cute they can be really vicious especially if they feel threatened or have babies nearby.
@polskagirl01 - the squash army looks like it is flourishing! I hope you get something yummy out of it! Sorry you had to cut your vacation short but it is so important to take care of you and your health!
It was warmer today and not as much cloud cover but I still got out for a solo walk and went a little further than yesterday. Lots of work on the house starting early today so Hobbes went daycare - win/win for everyone! Tomorrow I may get him out for another short walk while the cooler weather remains. I also want to get in a strength workout over the weekend, so may switch and do that tomorrow depending on how I feel. Want to get as much activity outside while I can and before the heat comes back.
Oh on wine movies, one of my favorites is Bottleshock which is based on a true story. It is about Chateau Montelena in Sonoma in the early 70's. The winery is still around, is a gorgeous place to visit, makes amazing wines and is stilled owned by the Barrett family portrayed in the movie. One of the other key players (Gustavo Brambia) in the movie is also a real person and has his own family run winery now as well.7 -
Morning all
Got in a 5Miler (08"42).
Staying at Mother's... Yup, Ice creams and cookies for the weekend (my chiropodist and physio are both in this area [my 6week later check up is today!] ).
Have a nice weekend all
@shanaber - will IMDB that movie Bottleshock.6 -
@tarun_yadavA based on your last few weeks of running, I'd say you are pretty much back to 100%. Good job on your recovery 👍
Got in 10 miles this morning. Nothing notable.

8/10: 6 miles
8/11: 5.1 miles
8/12: 9.2 miles
My legs are still a little stiff but feeling almost back to normal. Time to go back to Pilates!
I split my run again today. It was 83F, feels like 95F (90% humidity) at 7am this morning. For me that is crossing into pointless punishment territory. I see no point in running long in that. So, I did 4ish miles outside then came back and did a couple of ifit runs in Switzerland for the the rest of the mileage. I’m glad I didn’t push the outdoor segment. Those 4 miles felt like 8 and I ended up doing the treadmill runs very slowly. I was already so tired. These split long runs really make me appreciate a/c! It feels amazing to be all sweaty and come get on the treadmill with all the fans blowing on you. So cold!
My family is in the midst of birthday season. Between my immediate family and my in-laws we have 5 birthdays in 6 weeks so almost every weekend is occupied by someone’s bday celebration. This weekend is my husband’s, and he picked his favorite pizza place and I am making homemade double chocolate chip cookies for his “cake”. He’s turning 49. Wow, I just did that math and didn’t realize he was that old! He’s kind of weird about getting older so I wonder if he has really thought about that. Next year is the big 5-0. He looks much younger, but he hates the idea of being old. Idk, it doesn’t really bother me. It’s just something that happens to us, if we are lucky.7 -
@tarun_yadavA based on your last few weeks of running, I'd say you are pretty much back to 100%. Good job on your recovery 👍
Yes, overindulging and minor injuries seems to have found you back better, stronger, faster, remarkable!
Have a great weekend everyone.

@Scott6255 sorry about your pumpkin plants suffering in the heat. They do look very similar. But then I look up pictures of butternut squash plants, and they look similar to me, too. I'm pretty sure this is one or the other. Hopefully a good pumpkin. But the squash is pretty much the same thing as far as what I'd use it for.
I went for a short 15-minute walk with husband and daughter, and did a small amount of yardwork. Now laying down and waiting for husband to get back from the store and then we're doing a family campfire for dinner. I'm back to logging food, and only brought back one box of poptarts.
Speaking of plants, my husband did a good job of watering this one while I was gone!10 -

@polskagirl01 - You and I are both hanging out for the friendship and encouragement and I think there are others who are too but just not posting. It is just such a great community!
Love the orchids! Wow - I have a similar one that a friend recently gave me, same color flowers and another that my SIL gave me last year that had flowers, went dormant and hasn't gotten any new flowers. I set it next to the new one in hopes it would get encouragement to flower from it 😊
@AlphaHowls - those night shots are amazing! So clear with that setting that you found! I am wondering if there is anything similar on the iPhone - will have to do some research. Also I hope you are safe from the flooding! That looks pretty intense. Are the elephants all safe from it?4
