August Goal: 125 Miles
8/1: 6.26 miles
8/2: 5.57 miles
8/3: 5.12 miles
8/6: 11.26 miles
8/8: 6.26 miles
34.47/125 miles completed for August
I shouldn't have complained about 84°F the other day. This morning I left the house at 5:38 am and it was 90°F, feels like 92°. And there were 14 mph winds, which didn't really cool things down, it just made it difficult to run into the wind. I ran for a little over an hour and when I got home the temperature had dropped to 89°F, but it still felt like 92°. I missed the sprinklers at the courthouse, but it was just as well because when I ran by there I saw a skunk waddling around. He was probably enjoying the cool wet grass from the sprinklers that had just turned off. But I was able to run through a sprinkler. It was the same yard from last week and since the lady there told me the other day that she didn't mind, I actually stopped for a second or two and got nice and soaked before heading on. That really helped a lot. So even though the weather sucked, the run was ok and I ended up running 6.25 miles.
@quilteryoyo Your nieces are adorable! Looks like you and mom had a great time. I'm glad you and @teresa502 are both safe from the storms.

@yirara Great running today. I normally have the opposite problem, can't run fast enough, not matter how hard I try.
Thanks @kgirlhart ! You did great with that run. Glad you had at least one sprinkler to cool you down.3 -
That's brutal @kgirlhart! You are a beast to go out in that weather!
@quilteryoyo @Teresa502 glad y'all are ok from those storms. My brother that is just south of Atlanta didn't fair so well. Large tree fell on his house 😒 They were downstairs and it hit the top floor so no one was hurt, but they have 2 big holes in the roof.
Meanwhile just hot and dry here. No measurable rain for over 2 months.
Did 7 TM miles.

August 7: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill
August 8: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill, mowed, and sawed wood
23.40/80 mile goal
This morning, I was in waiting mode to see if I would need to pick up my neighbor from the car shop or not. So, I did a few things and then decided to do a 2 mile walk on the treadmill while I waited. No running so I wouldn't sweat too much. As soon as I finished, the neighbor let me know that he did NOT need me to come get him. But, by that time I was already done, so just left it at that.
Other activities today under the spoiler.A friend had loaned me her battery powered chain saw about 3 weeks ago so I could try it out to see if I liked it or not....I need something around here. It's time to give it back and hadn't had a chance to give it a whirl, so called mom and she said she could come up and be my helper. (I don't think it is safe to use a chainsaw alone.) I sawed up the pieces of a tree that had fallen across my driveway about 6 months ago. They were in my way when I mow. It took us about an hour. We got a Gator load of wood. I loved the saw, btw.
Funny thing happened when I let Tippy out later. I heard her barking the "there's something weird out here" bark, so went to check it out. She was in the driveway with her hackles up. I walked up to see if I could see what it was. This is it. HAHAHA At least she lets me know when something is amiss.
If you look closely, you'll see a lucky rabbit, sitting really still, beside the driveway. Once it saw that Tippy was otherwise occupied, it took off.
Once she checked it out, she was fine.
When I took mom home, she wanted to know if I wanted to go ahead and mow her lawn today...it seemed pretty dry and it's supposed to rain again later in the week. So, we came back up here to get the stuff I needed for that. When we were unloading the push mower at her house, a neighbor came by and said, "Do you want me to mow that for you?" Sure. So, he went home and got his big mower (he does a few lawns commercially) and did what he could with it. I did the push mowing and the weed eating. I had just a little left to do when it started sprinkling rain, so I came on home before I, and the equipment, got wet. What I missed isn't really going to be noticed and we can get it next time. (The neighbor that normally helps still has some back issues, so we didn't want to "make" him do it this week.) We are so blessed to have such good neighbors!7 -
Thanks @Scott6255 ! So sorry about your brother's house. Glad they were in the lower level and are okay.0
-
Yikes @Scott6255 - that is terrible! I hope they were able to get the tree off and the holes covered so everything doesn't get soaked and ruined! Does homeowners insurance cover damage like that? We don't worry too much about anything like that happening here with the biggest issue being earthquakes.
@quilteryoyo - I am so glad you were spared and able to get home ok! Hobbes will bark sometimes at things being out of place and new ones that he is not expecting. When a big palm frond falls he goes cautiously up to it to check it out like it might eat him but he doesn't bark. He won't go out at all when it is there if one of us don't go with him 😂 such silly dogs!3 -
Easy, cool after work run.
I'm traveling this weekend, it's going to affect my training plan. But not too much. I'm going up to wine county in northern California for a birthday party.
August Running Goal: 18 runs, 75 miles- Aug 1 - 3.00 miles
- Aug 2 - 3.85 miles
- Aug 4 - 3.27 miles
- Aug 6 - 6.00 miles

Morning everyone!
Got in a 10K today (09"11).
@Scott6255 - yikes! 😱 Hope the Home+Contents Insurance process isn't a ballache for your brother!
@quilteryoyo - correct! London is one of the world's biggest Metro cities... Attracting people from allover the world... And precisely none of them move here for the weather! 🤣5 -
Hahaha @shanaber about Hobbes and the palm fronds. Tippy became more brave when I went out with her. I never thought about not having severe storms when I lived in CA, but now that you mention it, I don't recall any. So weird. To be honest though, I'd rather deal with storms than earthquakes. At least with them you have a warning that they are coming.
Nice running @chris_in_cal . Enjoy your weekend.
Hahaha @tarun_yadavA ! I had to look up ballache. That is not I word I have ever heard before.1 -
Some nice British terminology for you Americans! 😂
ball-ache
/ˈbɔːleɪk/
noun VULGAR SLANG•BRITISH
noun: ballache
an annoying or tedious person or thing.

Aug 2 – 4.77 miles
Aug 4 – 3.28 miles
Aug 5 – 4.34 miles
Aug 6 – 8.02 miles
Aug 8 – 4.01 miles
Aug 9 - 4.26 miles
Yesterday morning I did my cross training workout and it was leg day so I waited to run until after work. It was around 80F but there was a bit of a breeze blowing. I ran 4.01 miles and walked 1 mile to cool down before heading to our track club meeting. This morning, it was 63F and I ran 4.26 miles. Beautiful sunrise but it’s a big foggy in the valleys.
Oh my goodness @Scott6255! I’m so glad your brother and his family weren’t injured by the tree hitting their house. I have a lot of large trees around me and that’s always my fear.
Happy Belated Birthday @quilteryoyo! Working up corn is hard work! And somehow the flies seem to just love it. Love the new shoes and the family pictures. Glad the storm wasn’t too bad. We just had some thunder and rain – no major winds. Smart rabbit!
@tarun_yadavA – I think you are a thrill seeker! I can just imagine you being one of those storm chasers that I see on tv! Our mountains typically protect us from tornadic activity but every now and then something will touch down in a valley area and do some damage.
Wander over Yonder is so cute @AlphaHowls! I love how he and the cat are getting along so well.
Welcome @Leigh_b and @md_long27! @Leigh_b I was registered to run the Marine Corps Marathon in 2020 when it was cancelled. A few friends and I ran it virtually and had friends who made it special for us but I will enjoy hearing about your experience with the real thing!
Happy (belated) Anniversary @Mari33a!
A birthday party in wine country sounds like fun @chris_in_cal. Hope you enjoy!
These two young deer have been hanging out in the woods next to my backyard. They both have babies hidden in the woods. Both of the babies (probably at least a month old by now) were in the yard when I got home last night. So cute!6 -

It was 90° F feels like 93° when I got up this morning. When I left to run the temp had dropped to 88°F, but still felt like 93°. It seems like there is no end in sight for this heat wave. I ran 6 miles this morning. It was decent, just hot and windy.
@scott6255 That is terrible for your brother. I'm glad no one was hurt.
@quilteryoyo That is funny about Tippy. My min pin sometimes barks at me if I come in carrying groceries or wearing a hat. I guess they don't like when things aren't "usual".
@Teresa502 Those deer are so pretty.

I played doubles tennis for about 1h 20m this morning. After I got home I did an interval run on the driveway. Don't hate...it was only 76F (24.4C) at 11:20 am. I thought it still felt pretty hot, even in the shade. I don't know how you guys in TX do it!
I walked 0.35 miles for warm up, then did 4 x (0.30 mile run/0.15 walk). I was having a hard time breathing, so walked 0.45 miles and then ran another 0.3 and walked 0.25 for cool down. Total was 43:37 min and 3 miles. Avg HR was 136 with a max of 151 bpm. I ran 1.50 miles in 18:15 min total, for an avg pace of 12:10 min/mile (4.9 mph). I was actually surprised that it was that fast. I didn't feel like I was running fast. Maybe that's why I was out of breath.8 -
Thanks @Teresa502 ! You are so consistent with your running! Sweet about the deer. Their babies are really cute.
Great running in that heat @kgirlhart ! As I said before, I don't know how you do it. I guess dogs like the status quo.

For once I'm pasting the data from my Garmin, which is exactly the same as my phone. Finally managed to get the footpod well calibrated. Oh, on that note: I think I'm on a roll!7 -

Aww, thanks a lot chris! Looks like I left the summer Scotland temperature and am moving slowly southwards I think the weather is getting towards summer-ish from the coming weekend Seriously, there were a few morning where I was close to turning the heating on.3 -
Well, my run of . . . running lasted two runs. My achilles hurt too much to run on Sunday, so I took a few days off. It feels so much better now that I’m tempted to try to run again, but know it probably isn’t really healed, just back to baseline after the running. I think I’ll give it a rest for the month and re-start in September. Maybe the mornings won’t be so hot then, as a bonus! Good luck to everyone! Off to do some more heel raises.6

Thank you, @scott6255!0

Tonight was a sort of hybrid intervals "superset?" I'd never heard of it.
I have been trying to log my foods. I like doing it, it always helps, and it always feels a bit persnickety. I am going to go ahead and keep doing it for now.

Morning all
Ran 5 this morning (09"06).
@Teresa502 ha! Swimming with sharks ✅, creepy crawlies and wild animals in the jungle ✅ ... Driving into tornadoes - nah! Probably not. Not now in my 40s anyway lol
@chris_in_cal enjoy your wine tasting weekend.
Btw. Anyone seen that movie Sideways?! Great great movie6 -
Nice run @tarun_yadavA. Yes I saw the Sideways movie about 20 years ago. Don't remember much about it. Might have to re-watch it.
Speed intervals this morning. 88F feels like 96F at 4am. Unreal.
1mi WU, then 4x1min speed w/1min recovery. Then 7x3.5min speed w/3.5min recovery, then 1mi CD. That was a tough one. Seems like every time a speed interval hit, I was starting on an uphill 😫
All that ended up being 8.3 miles.

I was supposed to meet at friend at 5:00 am for a run but it's been raining and storming since I woke at 4:00 am so I'm taking today as a rest day. Headed out in the morning for a hiking/camping trip. We want to cover at least 18 miles tomorrow so a rest day today will be good.
I really don't know how you Texans are getting outdoors and running in those temperatures. You're willpower and strength is amazing!8 -
You're doing great @yirara !
Oh no @knotmel . Sorry to hear this. I hope taking the extra time off will allow it to completely heal.
Great TM running @Scott6255 ! Awesome run this morning in that heat. Yes, if I try to do speed intervals outdoors, the speed always ends up on the hills and it becomes more of a hill repeat session. LOL
You're doing great @chris_in_cal !
Great run @tarun_yadavA . I have not seen that movie.
Enjoy your hike @Teresa502. Hopefully all of this rain hasn't toppled too many trees in your path and the streams won't be flooded, if you have to cross them.4 -
@Teresa502 have a great hiking trip!
@Scott6255 great movie... @chris_in_cal mentioned wine weekend - so my thoughts immediately went to that movie Sideways. Those two guys each with their car crash lives 🫣😂
@quilteryoyo - worth a watch!4 -

I define it as peaceful. It is something I have complete control over and gives me a sense of order in the world of chaos.

Seems like every time a speed interval hit, I was starting on an uphill 😫
Fact! Why is that?
"Sideways" was a kind of local movie, it was shot in and around where I attended Uni, around Paso Robles. I'll drink wine, and often enjoy it, but it's not my go to...two or three times a year is my average.
I'll be flying up to Sonoma County this weekend (next door to the more famous Napa County.) up above San Francisco.7
