Aug total: 18.9/100 miles
8/1: 5.6 miles
8/2: 3.3 miles
8/5: 10 miles
It was brutal this morning. 81F feels like 88F at sunrise. I decided to do the first 6+ outside then finished off 10 miles on the treadmill. After the suffocating heat and humidity, the AC and fans felt amazing! It was a a good call and the recovery should be easier than if I had forced the full run outdoors.6 -
8/1 17.4 miles, Running Partner A
8/2 17.61 miles, 1920 days on the run, 1102 days HM+ Streak

Getting ready to save my document and realize I did not put mileage in today.*sighs* I really do not like headaches/jaw pain.4 -
Lol! My garmin is confused!
You’re doing too much!!!
You need to do more high aerobic exercises!!!
All because I’m not fit anymore and my hr is higher than usual when exercising.

03.08 Thu 19°C 5.2km 47min 8:57/km

This went quite well. Again dummy intervals (running and walking) and of that about 3/5 running. Wasn't quite so relaxed today. I dug out an old footpod because my Garmin has some problems in some part of town and distance and pace suddenly drops. So I tried to compensate. And overcompensated big time. (all data above mobile phone, which is more reliable). Next time I'll have to be a bit more careful. Maybe I'll find the sweet calibration factor spot. So basically, I looked onto my watch and phone far too often during this run and changed settings in panic. But hey, I moved for 50 minutes. So not too shabby. Now on to increasing the running and deceasing the walking intervals.7 -

Since my streak month is over, I am back to just running 4 days per week. So I took yesterday and today off. Yesterday I really missed my run before work, but I have to admit that today it was nice to have a day off. I am considering adding one ir two more days during the week. But we'll see. I am hoping to get up early enough tomorrow to run before the sun is up. It will probably be at least 85°F no matter how early I get out.
Welcome to the newcomers to the group. Everyone is off to a great start.
Happy Birthday @quilteryoyo!7 -
August 1: Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 1.50 miles
August 2: Wun 3.00 miles - driveway after mowing my lawn - yellow jacket stings
August 3: Walk 1.50 miles - Ran 1.00 mile - treadmill
August 4: Walk 1.00 mile - Ran 6.40 miles - treadmill (birthday run)
August 5: Walk 2.00 miles - treadmill
17.40/80 mile goal
The plans I had for today didn't pan out. They rarely do. I was supposed to play tennis at noon, so was going to get in a quick wun before heading out. But one of the ladies hurt her back last night and couldn't play, so we had to cancel. When I found that out this morning, I decided to clean a little house and run on the treadmill later in the day. But, I talked to mom and she was working in the corn today. I talked her into letting me come down to help. We wound up doing all that she could find that was ready today - 162 ears! It's a lot of work, but is so good. I was tired when I got home and we hadn't stopped for lunch, so I had a spoon of peanut butter to tide me over, and went down for a treadmill walk. I did 2 miles at 3.8 mph. My avg HR was 104, with a max of 117 bpm. I probably needed a day to recover from yesterday's long run anyway.
Question: I am having problems getting the charging cable for my Garmin Forerunner 745 to stay in place and charge my watch. It had started a couple weeks ago needing to be fiddled with and left in the "right" place in order to connect well. Today, I can't get it to charge at all - it's too loose. Has anyone else had this issue? I think I am going to buy a replacement cable from Amazon. Has anyone gotten one of those either? Just curious. When I looked on line, it appears this is a common issue.

@Scott6255 You did great to get in a HM in that heat!
@AlphaHowls That's a huge difference in the photo's. So cool. What kind of phone/camera do you have? I hope E has a healthy baby. I hope the mouth guard helps your jaw pain.
I'm impressed that you haven't been stung by anything flying @martaindale ! I think I must be related to your brother because everything seems to find me too. I hope you never have to find out if you are allergic either. Great way to break up your long run!
Hahaha @yirara . You're doing great, regardless of what Garmin says.
You too @TheMrWobbly ! I've been wondering about you lately.
Thanks @kgirlhart !3 -

3 (very slow) miles + 2 hour nap today.
Glad that garmin put me back in "maintaining" status after catapulting myself in "overreaching" last weekend after pushing much harder than I should have to keep up with old running friends.
10 miles tomorrow and the plan is to keep them EASY.
@martaindale For recovery I try to prioritize sleep but I'm not always good at executing what I know I should do. I am naturally a night owl and completely suck at getting up early, so having to run very early everyday before I go to work sets me up to struggle most days. I stay up too late even though I know I need to go to bed and then can't get up in the morning because I need the extra sleep. It's a hard habit to break but I am determined to get there. I also schedule naps for myself on the weekends. If I am too busy to get them in then the following week is usually a training disaster because I have not recovered enough going into the week 😩.
@quilteryoyo I have a Garmin forerunner 945 and have had that happen to my chargers several times.... I think I'm on my 3rd or 4th now. Over time they seem to "loosen" and can't get them to connect securely enough to charge. I have gotten mine from Amazon and have not had issue with them other than I seem to need to get a new one every year or so.4 -
Morning all
Hope everyone's having a nice Sunday!
Got in a pacier-than-usual 8Miler... Ran with a Running Club today.

@quilteryoyo - when's your birthday?

After church this morning, mom and I took lunch to my cousin in assisted living to celebrate his birthday. He's 78 today, 10 years younger than mom. We had a really nice visit. Then, we stopped by my niece's house and visited with them a bit. Another great visit.
When I got home, I was tired, so went down for a two mile treadmill walk. I didn't turn on my Garmin, to save power until I can get a new charging cable. I always use the treadmill's distance and time anyway. I just use the Garmin for calories which doesn't really matter today cuz I ain't logging calories when I had Zaxby's chicken dinner and carrot cake for lunch.
A couple of pictures from my day are under the spoiler, if you are interested. Not running related.
Me, mom, and my cousin Gary.
The girls gave mom "sticker pox." lol
I got new running shoes for my birthday. Mom was going to buy them for me, but I told her it would be too much, so she said she would buy one of them. She's so funny. Shoe porn under the spoiler.
They're a little lighter color than I expected, but I like the way they look - almost like a cloud. I haven't tried them yet. I want to wait until I'm actually planning to run.
Here's a couple of shoe porn out takes. Tippy photo bombs.10 -
August Goal: 125 Miles
8/1: 6.26 miles
8/2: 5.57 miles
8/3: 5.12 miles
8/6: 11.26 miles
28.21/125 miles completed for August
I managed to get up pretty early and got out the door about 6:50 am. So I was able to run during the coolest part of the day. Unfortunately, that was only about 84° F. But there was some light cloud cover and a little more shade at that time if the morning. So it was a pretty pleasant run and I ran 11.2 miles. I saw another runner and a few walkers. I was able to run through a sprinkler about 7 miles in, and that helped. I saw a few loose dogs, but none of them bothered me.
Love the shoes @quilteryoyo. Looks like Tippy isn't too sure about them.

Hahahaha @tarun_yadavA . My birthday was on Friday, the 4th. It's okay. Thanks for the belated wishes. You did great with your speedier run!
Beautiful picture @AlphaHowls ! That's about right with the discipline.

Still doing dummy intervals (run/walk) but I'm getting faster in my running intervals. Also still experimenting with the footpod and still have not found the sweetspot calibration factor, thus posting phone data here again. Look at how much faster I got all of a sudden! My running intervals are getting a bit longer, but also faster. Tomorrow I might try to just run and see how far I get. Probably not very far, and probably very slow, but doesn't matter.7 -
@quilteryoyo - Hope you and your family/friends are ok. We are under a tornado warning and I know you are under a tornado watch and a rotation was just spotted in your area. Hope you are sheltered in a safe place.4

@quilteryoyo Your shoes are really pretty! I love the color!
@chris_in_cal Yep, that's how you do it. Make changes you can stick with.1 -
Aug total: 25.9/100 miles
8/1: 5.6 miles
8/2: 3.3 miles
8/5: 10 miles
8/7: 7 miles
Yep, hot. Found some sprinklers and remembered my salt tabs. Got it done and it wasn't too bad.5 -
Happy belated birthday @quilteryoyo! I love how your mom said she would buy by ONE shoe!
Needed some recovery after that brutal HM on Saturday, so did a 7 mile TM run INDOORS. Looking at the extended forecast, we are in for this same extreme heat for AT LEAST 2 more weeks! (that's as far as the extended forecast went out)

Today, mom and I had the pleasure of spending the day playing with her great-granddaughters while their parents were at work.
Non-running stuff under the spoiler. It was a great day, except for the fact that we had to be at their house before 7 am and they live an hour away! Early morning. But, we all had fun and no one had a breakdown - child or adult. LOL
We did some early morning coloring.
Mom getting a makeover.
They played nicely together, for the most part.
Mom and the girls.
It did come another huge storm while we were up there. Coming home was an adventure with water crossing the road in several places, torrential downfalls for a few minutes on and off, and a tree across the road that we had to figure out how to get around to get home without having to go all the way back to town - the tree was about a tenth of a mile from my driveway.
Tree across the road.
Then, my neighbor had wanted us to call him when we got home. He came down and gave me a cheesecake he had bought me for my birthday. We had to try it, of course. It is delicious! I was glad that no trees had fallen across my driveway.
I got home at 5, and went down for a 2 mile walk on the treadmill. Again, I didn't turn on Garmin. I get my new charger cable on Wed. I hope everyone who was in the line of the storms today stayed safe.5 -
Thanks @kgirlhart . Great 11.2 miles in that heat!
Nice that you have a cool run by the beach @chris_in_cal !
Thanks @tarun_yadavA ! You are doing great. How is your knee holding up?
That's a great improvement @yirara !
Thanks @Teresa502 . We are fine. We were at my niece's house during the tornado watch, but I didn't hear that one was actually spotted. The area had flooding and downed trees and a little structural damage to roofs, but that is all I know about.....except for my neighbor's driveway that got washed out for the second time in 4 days! I hope you are safe and didn't get any damage.
Thanks @martaindale! You do so good running in the heat!
Great recovery run @Scott6255 ! I hope the forecast is wrong and it cools down some for you. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Mom is a hoot and doesn't even try to be!

Morning all
Got in a 4.5 (09"03 pace)
@quilteryoyo - nice pics! 😊 Knee is fine, thank you! Hope you and @Teresa502 totally unaffected and not inconvenienced by tornadoes!
(Sounds so exotic from out here in London!
Occasional snowfall in winters and the odd freakish heat wave for a few days in the summer is about all that happens here... Otherwise we're very much a Seattle-lite. Nowhere near as much rainfall, but 9/12M a year - always cloudy, overcast. 'will it rain?', 'do I need a jacket?' 'do I need an umbrella?' etc etc)8 -
Thanks @chris_in_cal !
Thank you @tarun_yadavA ! Great running. I'm glad your knee is fine. Except for having to re-route on my way home, I had nothing else to deal with from the storms. I always picture London as foggy/rainy and sort of dreary. I'm not sure I could stand it being cloudy that much, but I guess if you grow up there, you are used to it.1 -

Today I didn't do quick successions of run/walk intervals but instead ran 1km, then walked 200m, and then the same 2 more times. Thus I ran 3km. Ran far too fast today and every attempt at trying to slow down resulted in going even faster thereafter. Too restless I guess Btw, if anyone wonders about the temperatures: yeah, it's the height of summer here. And it's ridiculously cold.6
