Debbie - that appears to be a good deal on an air fryer. I don't have one, not sure I'd use one but will start looking up recipes.
Your MIL's cabbage rolls sounded yummy. I'm a big fan of most (authentic) Asian food. When my DH started not eating what I cooked, my attitude was "more for me!" and I had more meals go in the freezer.
Good for you finding some joy in your activities you can do alone. Your beautiful long walks, Zumba, visiting your mom. Your DH may or may not be inclined to join in; I think a lot of couples are like that, especially as they get older and their interests are more diverse.
Thanks for the info about your mom's shading her chickens. I've had a tarp over most of the run, mainly to shelter it from the rain so it didn't turn into a mudhole this spring. Yesterday afternoon I found some shade cloth and attached it to the side of the run which gives the girls more shade in the afternoon, so I'm hoping this helps. I keep thinking the days are getting shorter, so even though it's hot, there's less sun in the daytime.
Walking - I just realized how many of us enjoy walking alone. Barbie, Debbie, Ginny, Michele, Heather, Rita, me.... and I know there are more of us.
Rori - thinking of you and your friends in Hawaii. Did any of them live in Maui in the path of the fire? What a heartbreak for those folks.
Heading into town early to get groceries and stop at the doc's for fasting blood draw. I want to get in a quick walk after I feed the chickies and cat, see if I can burn off some glucose from yesterday's supper. My FBS is normally a bit high in the mornings, even though my A1C is in the normal range. I've read coffee can affect the readings but my doc said go ahead and have it, no cream or sugar (I prefer it black anyhow.) So I'm on my 4th cup.
The chickies won't get their sunrise walk, since they wander and putter around and I have things to do.
Better get going. Make it a wonderful day!

Rebecca- good luck to Lee today.
Rori- hope your friends are ok ,the devastation and heartbreak is so horrible.1 -
Kylia - We live in a narrow side road, with cars parked on both sides. Hardly anyone comes down it unless they have to! No sirens either. My son has been living on the seafront for 8 months, which is the main road for ambulances and police cars! Plus partying groups in nearby apartments.
In the high summer, there is a very occasional garden party around here. Not for ages. Once a year or so the helicopter rescue lands in a nearby recreation ground. That wakes us up.
Otherwise, it's perfect peace, except in the fox mating season!
Made a fabulous 'celeri remoulade'. It used to be the first thing we bought on a drive through France, along with 'carrotte rapée', paté, camembert, baguette and peaches. We would stop the car in a lay-by and have a picnic. My version was pretty authentic, but I didn't have quite the right size grater for my food processor. It's a bit chunkier than the French version.
Lots left over, so my son can have some. I have left DH masses of washing up!
Guardian recipe. Felicity Cloake. I did blanch it. And added mayonnaise. Not slimming, but I am not eating carbs. Had it with pastrami.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -

If you had asked me three months ago how my computer skills were I would have told you, fairly good. After this week I feel the answer would be lacking.
The years of working in companies that did not embrace technology has left me feeling left in the dust.
The saving grace is that when I took my computer operator course all those years ago, I wasn’t taught just how to use a particular program. I was taught the “logistics” of how any program operates. I just need to have some time using them and I’ll be set.
We should have had a document or something telling us where to find things from the school’s online resources. File paths for submissions and what we do and do not have available to us.
Maybe my age is showing. 🥴

The university where I took my recent Master's degree had an area on their website where we logged in to access course materials and to submit our assignments.
You could contact someone in administration for details on your area like that.
I found the majority of courses in my Master's degree to be very disorganised.

Just got back from a week-long work conference in Brisbane. Great week but so tired now.
Lots of informative workshops and speakers. I have many things to follow-up on.
Great connections with people in the same area of work all over Australia.
Weather was wonderful! A bit of summer in the middle of winter. Brisbane is subtropical.
So much fantastic food - the catering was superb.
Host and entertainment at last night's dinner were Australian celebs. Kind of cool to see them in person.
And had a bit of fun riding Brisbane's huge Ferris wheel.
Very well organised event.
I enjoyed myself but I definitely couldn't keep up that pace any longer than I did! I am glad to be home where it is quiet.
However, I would have loved to bring the weather back with me!
Yes, this is the first time I have left my husband at home alone (mostly) since his accident in 2018, and actually since about this time in 2009. We don't spend much time apart. His son checked on him one day. Groceries arrived another day and he had a long chat with the delivery driver - he's getting to know them. Plus he knows a couple of the neighbours now. And we texted a lot plus zooming in the evenings.

I prefer walking alone because I can go where I want to go, stop and take photos if I want, and motor along at about 5-6 km/h.
So many people prefer strolling at about 3 km/h and it's actually not easy to walk slowly like that. My hips don't like it.

I am so Thankful today is Friday and I only work until noon. Not sure what I will do this afternoon. A nap sounds good.
My foot is still swelled and saw the employee nurse this morning. He thinks it might be the start of CHF since it is my right foot. I explained I saw the hearth doctor last week and he said all is stable. Just keep it elavated as much as possible until I see the foot doctor.

Good news, bad news, good news, bad news, and in the end, good news!
First good news: Got through all the accumulated fabric of the years past last night and got it stashed in the cabinet or into the trash. I had slept just a few hours, back up at midnight and then worked straight through to 4 a.m., but accomplished half of my overall task. Two garbage bags full of things I will never use went with Corey to the dumpster at work, so more weight gone on that side. All that's left now is two more massive bins of art supplies... easy peasy.
Bad news: New phone came in yesterday, and the instructions (of course) were confusing to be able to switch from old to new. I have never had an issue getting a new phone working, so kept at it. Got the phone to work for a little while yesterday, but the text was still off line. Now the phone is offline, as well. Good news: After I got those two massive bins of fabric sorted, placed, or pitched, I fell asleep after Corey left and slept for four hours straight for the first time in weeks. Woke up feeling as if I'd been asleep for years...
Bad news: The coffee maker quit working on Corey when he was headed for work, kept saying it needed water, even though the tank was full. Staggered around the internet manuals to find that none of them had this particular troubleshooting issue covered... cleaned it, still didn't work.
Good news: Finally pulled the water tank off for the third time, and instead of gently placing it, I dropped it back in to see if a jolt would make it work. Ha! Minor violence as appliance repair. Am about halfway through my cup of coffee now and the brain fog is finally lifting.

Hi Gals,
Thinking about all the discussion on relationships with hubbies… I have nothing to contribute on the husband front, but relationships and change works across all relationships married or not. I have worked hard on changing my response in certain relationships – not so much from this current round of counseling but from some a few years ago. I have been amazed at how much things can change by just changing my response. At one point a friend would say awful things on the phone to me, and I learned to say “we need to change the subject, and if you again say hurtful things to me I will need to hang up” He would continue and I would say (even talking over him) that was hurtful I am hanging up now. and then hang up. It took probably 3 conversations that I hung up and he never did it again. In time I realized there was nothing in that friendship and I let it go. But I remember my counselor saying to find something simple reasonable and that you can do and then tell the person if ________________ continues, I will do _____________. And Do It. I have used this technique many times and it has helped tremendously.
Might not work for everyone, but did and continues to work for me.
Tracey – fingers crossed that the money comes in for a computer shopping trip. Last time I shopped for a computer I did a bunch of research and then went to a few brick and mortar shops and found the IRL shops were able to give me a better deal than online.

Michele, oh yeah I sure do remember baking “special” brownies in the ‘70s and late ‘60s. They don't call me an Ageing Hippie for nuthin' One friend got the munchies, ate too many, and turned the color of split pea soup. Had to leave the A's baseball game in the 7th inning. Oregano might not be too tasty, could you frost them and put rainbow sprinkles and some kind of “Magic Brownies” sign instead? Would the soup kitchen take the leftover desserts?
Allie you are naughty! Would sure make the music bingo hilarious.
Vicki fingers X’d for Thursday’s foot dr. appointment. Glad you did that, back in the day your regular Dr. would have given you a referral but nowadays we all have to take charge of our own healthcare.
Flea your “life of Brian” reference made me snort my tea. :laugh: “These are hard decisions for all of us. Sometimes it takes courage to leave and sometimes it takes courage to stay.” Truth this. And no one outside truly understands what’s going on inside a relationship, or really another person. Sorry you’re drowning in work. Hard price to pay for your vacation.;{
Katla hooray for hummingbirds in Illinois!
Debbie so glad you have found activities that give you happiness and peace to balance out DH’s negativity. That is a true survival skill. Well done.
Tracey I so admire your new endeavor. The first week is always exhausting, worse if your stuck sitting in one place for hours and hours. Can you march in place while watching videos? Your plan to make sure your foundation is strong is great. You’ve got this!
Kylia your Bronco joy shines out! Have fun!!!
Heather “they are coming for the experience, and the best part of that experience is my calm and centered presence and a warm welcome. I am the gift to them. The host being frazzled and distracted is not what anyone needs.” Brilliant this.
Lanette 4th cup?!?
Heather had to google carrottes rapees. Yum. Your French roadside picnic=yum YUM but what, no wine? Remoulade with pastrami sounds yummy too.
Machka so relieved your DH survived your week long absence so well. And that you were able to have some fun on the trip.
Lisa your learn by training others tip. Truth this. Four hours straight? Con VERY gratulations. Likewise the occasional minor violence appliance repair does seem to work…
Kim your “find something simple reasonable and that you can do…” and then do it, is key in so many situations. Relationships, work, dog training…
Time for PT. Too late for “before breakfast” Joe brought home French Toast Sticks from Burger King. I relished every bite but gave the last one to the dogs…
Today’s (8/11) gratitude: Mama’s wooden toothpick trick to help screws grab hold in furniture.08/10: Move: 2 sets PT w/d, dogs to powerline. Steps:5028Later, lighter, lovelies!
Fuel: sugar in vs mfp=1 CI=1551 CO=302

Flea, drowning in work
Willamette Valley OR
Flea - Such a graceful way to say a home truth--one we've all felt. Sorry the work is overwhelming.
Debbie - Thank you for understanding that none of us are trying to push anything on you, just sharing our experiences for what help they may be. Mostly I think, we just hope you find the happiness you deserve, dear heart.
Got lots done today... and am finally to the point where the workroom (was craft room/office) is the last room that needs doing. Everything that's in that room will be stored there, discarded or donated. One last big push!
Time to go snag the laundry from the line, get it put away, and settle down to an evening of gently burping pizza and watching the British population sharply diminished by yet another unlikely killer.
Later, my lovelies,
Lisa in AR
Thanks again Lisa- I do understand what everyone is saying and I do really appreciate the insight.
I too want to find a little happiness. I am working on doing things for me.
When I had to go to MIL's every day, on the drive over I would say this prayer:
" God, please do not let her bitterness get into my head and my heart" Once I started doing that, it really helped. I was thinking about that this morning on my walk. I need to start saying this again daily but referring to dh now. I still need to remember when dealing with MIL but that is only once a week at most now.
Today will be about less complaining and more about being thankful for the good parts.

Well....
Our new Bronco is home finally! Has been built since June 20th! She is everything we wanted. SIL just shook her head. DH said it may hold its value better than the money in the bank. All I know is I could drive a different vehicle every day of the week. Of course now we need a bigger garage! I may never get my bathroom redone. There is a Bronco Stampede going on in Pigeon Forge next weekend....guess where we will be? Lol! Going down after work on Friday, back home on Sunday. 5 hour drive. We will be staying on the strip in a motel. Then head back down two weeks later to our cabin. I am happy DH is wanting to go down for stampede. I keep trying to get more weekend travels.
Annie You are in a rough position with parents. Hugs. I hope puppy feels better tomorrow. Remember you are a strong woman with great perseverance.
Lannette I thought of you this morning. I saw a post with chickens running around in wired "hamster balls"! They could still pluck at ground and move around but weren't in much danger from predators. It was on FB, so may not be real, but what a great idea!
Allie I got my mom assistance at the airport 15 yrs ago, not due to physical health issues, but because she easily panics. It made her trip better. Do what needs to be done so that you can enjoy yourself!
I learn so much from all of you!
Kylia in Ohio
Hope you have a great time at the stampede- nice to get away for a few days I am sure.
Wow-lots of cars. My first thought was- lots of insurance!! (we have 4 so know what we pay.)

Ginny - Wise words to Debbie. I was in that situation for about 12 years. I’m sure depression was a huge part of his problems so I too was worried about leaving him.
Things started changing when I started showing more love.
I had this on my phone and looked at it daily sometimes much more than daily.

It’s such a tough position to be in.
Debbie - there are a lot of wise women in this group. Hugs to you. You’ll know what to do when the time is right. In the meantime be gentle with yourself.
I’m looking forward to this weekend. One I hope the money comes on for the loan so I can buy a computer and get it set up. Secondly, I want to spend my days reviewing this weeks course to help me be successful with the rest of it. Next week is when I start leaning to be an Education Assistant rather than a student. I want to have a better grasp on the technology and the style of the school.
Tracey in Edmonton
Thank you.
I saw that posted months ago and printed it up.It is on my computer desk door. It has gotten covered up. Need to see and follow it more. It is perfect. I know I will not get any kind of compassion/attention from him when I am not giving any to him. After so many years of not getting any, it is hard to show it to him, Know I need to though, if there will be any change at all.
Take your own advice and "be gentle with yourself" in regards to school. This is something you need to get back into.It has been a while. It will come back to you.
Enjoy your weekend as much as you can.
Debbie

Just waiting for my son to put in an appearance. DH has volunteered to drive him to the house with his luggage, so is putting off drinking much alcohol. I've texted, but no reply.
We are looking forward to settling down tonight, so we hope he hurries up so we can relax.
I've been reading his daughter’s bonkbuster. A lot of abusive sex(IMHO) and loads of drinking. I haven't finished it yet. I know she wrote it purely as a frivolous summer read, but I find it a bit sad. I imagine there will be a happier ending when the heroine learns her lesson.

Worked then the soup kitchen. Nothing special. They had chicken sandwiches so I brought some home, maybe the kids will want them. If not, I can throw them out which is what the soup kitchen would have done. They can’t keep them until Monday.
Heather – I like to have as much done ahead of time so that I can enjoy my company. And I’m sure you’re the same way. As a matter of fact, I know it
Kylia – PF is about 3 hours west of us. Seeing how so many of our members are on the west coast, to me that’s close by….lol. I’m not so worried about how the house looks. That can even be cleaned in advance!
M – welcome home!!!!
Lisa – yeaaaa for getting that coffee maker to work!!! Sometimes you just need to show it who’s boss
Barbara – I highly doubt the soup kitchen would take the leftover desserts. They need things that they can be sure haven’t been tainted. So if something comes in and it isn’t in a sealed container, they won’t serve it. I’m thinking the oregano just on the top, to give it the idea. So someone can even scrape it off.
Pip – I didn’t have any doubt that you would get your first place back. Good for you!
Vince told me Jess called this a.m. Seems she’d just spoken to Theresa and was asking about a sheet and towels. Anyway, Vince JUST NOW told me that they probably didn’t leave real early so he doesn’t think they’ll get here for about another hour or so. Had I known, I probably could have gone for a walk. Oh well….. Do hope they get here pretty soon so that the kids can go swimming. Looks like it’s starting to cloud up.

My son has been , I fed him, (he thought the celeri remoulade was fantastic) and gave him an AF beer and a gluten free caramel shortcake.
Then I chivvied him out because DH wants to settle in. We were half way through a Poirot!
I expect he will feel weird back in the house on his own. I told him to bring his laundry over if he needs some done. No electrical goods installed yet, so no fridge even. He's got our motion activated nightlight. Takes 4 AA batteries. Cleaned out my supply.
What a saga! I feel for the other grandparents!
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxx6 -
Survived Verizon, have a working phone (proved by immediate phone calls from husband and daughter in quick succession!) and the text is working as well. Also retrieved my text history and phone history. I had already transferred photos and apps, so these were the last pieces to have my communication world back in order... Ahhhhh...
Debating between continuing to get the workroom finished and getting on the big mower--the rains earlier in the week have the yard lush and green in back and front. Then there's the alternative - a nap. The napocalypse begins once more! Run for your lives! Or at least... stagger off to the bedroom and lay down...
Later, y'all,
Have a lovely weekend, and traveling grace to those who are a-travelin'.

Well today went well. Up at 3, left at 4:15 am. Then got to the hospital at 6:15, and the labs opened up at 6:30 am. Next stop was radiology where he had x rays, and a CT scan.. His doctor appointment was at 9:45 am and we were seen at 10;00 am. Doctor said his numbers looked good, kidneys working well. Better yet was that his liver oxygenation looked good, his veins to his liver running a good percentage. Overall a happy appt. Drove back to Mt Vernon and we stopped at our favorite Mexican place. So now I am full, tired, and have a grand stain of salsa on my shirt. Go figure!
Glad we're home though. I took half of my meal home.
