we are 3D printing some things for a new local restaurant. (dh taught me how to use the printer so I am printing stuff now too with files he has on the sd card). It is a Cajun fish and chicken place called Sharky's. We are printing up small sharks(three different styles) for them to put in their kids meals.
We printed one of the styles a lot bigger- I LOVE this thing- it is totally moveable and the printer prints it that way-soooo cool.
The great thing is the owners are thrilled with them- we are trading food for sharks- Today when we dropped them off(30 small and one large) and got fried calamari, fish, fries, hushpuppies and soda for dh/water for me. We will be doing more for them. They want more of the larger ones.
I suggested(and he loved the idea) of having a punch card for the kids when they buy 5 or what ever number of kids meals, and get the little sharks, they can get a big one when the card is full.
This is the big one- I am printing one for me right now.
these are the small versions of them:
This is the big one I am printing now.
He ordered two more things of filament- red and black and then a rainbow- Dragons are next on the list.
Now that I know how to use the printer, I want to start looking for the files I want to try- hummingbirds, butterflies, dragonflies. We have done the flat butterflies and dragon flies that I painted and put magnets or hangers on- want to try some with this new filament and maybe not have to paint them, just embellish them some.

Rosemarie - good for you, glad you could get out while the weather is still nice and enjoy yourself. Now I'm hungry for mac n cheese. I treated myself to an 8" garlic alfredo chicken pizza from Sahara yesterday, at half yesterday and the other half today. Bought a spare and stuck it in the freezer which will save me a drive over to the next town in the future - the road I normally take that crosses I-5 is closed for repair so I have to take a longer route these days.
I'm saving money on gas so I can blow it on dog and cat and chicken treats. Sound familiar ladies?? My surrogate grandchildren.
Annie - so glad you got to go out for a nice meal with your friend Craig. How is your dad doing without your mom in the house? Is he able to drive to see her?
Pip - How did it feel hanging around with all those old people at the reunion? You and Kirby looked great as always.
Waiting for the heavy rain and wind to hit here. I did go to Home Depot this morning and got a couple sheets of 8 ft. plastic roofing and the nice employee cut them in half for me so they fit nicely in the Sube. Set one up as a rain barrier which should protect the chickie feeder from rain and keep their run drier. We'll see.
Have a great evening!

Quiet Sunday. Catching my breath a bit. Tried to watch church, but the feed died with about 10-15 minutes left to go. It never did come back on. Then made dinner. Rested a bit and watched some art videos on YouTube (Smarthistory -- love them!). Then hubby and I went grocery shopping. He is feeling a little funky because he got his covid booster this morning. He is still looking for a job. It has been incredibly frustrating. Just when we think he's getting close (after 5-6 interviews, teaching and/or coding demonstrations) they go with someone else. I am hoping something breaks for him. Really, it is all the same for me. He will be 65 in February, and I told him that there is nothing wrong with retiring. He's been working basically non-stop since he was about 18. So I think he is entitled. He's just not ready yet. And I get that. None of us want to stop because of choices outside our control. So I'll keep encouraging him in his search. But it really is more than full-time job, this searching, interviewing, prepping, presenting, etc. It is crazy.
Middle son is fighting the Anvil fire outside of Port Orford, since Tuesday. It got really crazy yesterday. They saw quite a few fire whirls and dust devils. He said the fire is like it is a live. He can feel it suck air into it and spew air back out, like it's breathing. I'll post one of the pictures he sent me a couple days ago. So proud of him. He is really struggling with his mental health, so I think this has been a good experience for him. Get himself outside of himself, doing something. He said he's feeling much better.
We have our first "college" visit for youngest son tomorrow night. They are coming to our town, so we just have to go to a local hotel to visit with them. He was really hot about this place (OIT) when we scheduled it, but lately he's been leaning toward Portland State, so we will see. It's just hard to believe we are really doing this. We also have a German exchange student coming in about three weeks to live with us for about 20 days. I cannot tell you how nervous I am about this, but I think it will be good for all of us. My son wants to go to Germany this summer, and in order to go on an exchange, you need to host, so we are doing it. When he goes, he'll be gone for about a month.
Oldest has settled into his paramedic job.
Oncology check up tomorrow morning. My last labs were good, so I am thinking this will be quick. I need to remember to ask her if I can get the covid booster. A few months ago, they told me to wait because of how many I've had. This one is supposed to be different, so I think I will be okay to do it. I've been masking in public again. Which I hate. But I work inside the prison on Tuesdays, and one of my students said that it was beginning to go through his housing unit. I've also had students on my main campus come down ill with fevers, so I felt like I had to do it.
So much I'd like to comment on, but my brain is complete mush on the weekends. So much is taxing me at work right now. It's very stressful, and not a lot of fun. I am hoping things settle down a bit, maybe in November. Certainly in December, after finals are over, I should be able to catch my breath better.
Take care all. Much love and many best wishes.

Lanette my dad is at loose ends. He doesn't hear well at all anymore, so his social life is contracting to church and my aunt and uncle, and his lunch friend. He usually does a lot of yard work, but it's been raining.
I have been doing all the driving for visiting mom. He does still drive, but not on highways. After riding with him at night last Sunday I am encouraging him not to drive at night either. I have told him that soon I would be doing all the driving.
It's sad because I see how lonely he is, but his hearing issues drive me crazy. I try to engage him in conversation, but I'm the introvert. We end up with long silences especially in the car.

Did Amy Dixon’s Breathless Body DVD then took a walk around the neighborhood, then went to WalMart, then worked moving rocks around the pool and hauling others up to the fence. Afterwards, went in the spa in the house. Haven’t done that in a long time.
Oh, boo hoo….I went to play mahjongg and I must have accidentally thrown out my card. See, I used to always keep my card in this pocket of my tablet. Well, the newspaper now only delivers three days/week, so we needed a bigger tablet to read the paper. However, the cover for the new tablet doesn’t have a pocket where I can keep the card. We finally found a clear envelope with a zipper on top to put it in. So I just ordered the card. The thing I’m most upset about is the envelope. I don’t know where I’m going to find another one like it. It was real nice, had a zipper on top and I could keep my card and a pen in it. Now it’s gone. Oh well…..
M – you’re doing so well on your weight. Congrats on the loss
Barbara – if I get an oil stain on a piece of clothing, I put baby powder on it. The powder soaks up the oil. So far, it’s worked for me every time
Lanette – I’m not looking forward to the time change, either. I hate it
katla – so glad the hummingbird feeder wasn’t broken. Guess the wind just knocked it down
Lisa – I’m so very sorry you were scammed. Thanks for letting us know about it.
Pip – fantastic pictures. Looks like a great time was had by all. You look fantastic. If my high school ever has a reunion, I don’t think I’d go. Those were not the greatest years to me. Now I did go to a reunion of our grade school (1-8) since I really enjoyed those years.
Meals: lately, I’ve wanted less and less meat. I usually give Vince 1-1/2 portions. But the veggies – now THAT’S another story
Rosemarie – sounds like a lovely day at the Gardens
Debbie – lovely sharks. While we don’t own a 3D printer, the library has one that you can use. Vince made the design of this holder for the batteries for the Christmas ornaments and they made it. It comes in quite handy. Keeps the batteries separate so they don’t short each other out.
Flea – a friend of ours was in the same position as your DH. Most companies didn’t want to hire him mainly because (but, of course, they can’t say this) they were afraid that they’d go to the expense of training someone and then they’d retire and the company would have to train someone else. I hope things work out for your dh.

Has your husband asked for feedback after the interviews? I've found that very helpful!

Yes. If he ever hears back from them at all. After spending 6-8 weeks jumping through all kinds of hoops, I have been shocked how many companies just ghost him. No response to emails. No "no thank you." Just silence. Other times, when he has received a "no thank you," and asked for feed back, they don't respond.
They can't legally say, "You're too old." Like Michele said, it's his age. There isn't any other reason. Some companies are interested in him on the phone, and then when they see him in a Teams or Zoom interview, they lose interest.
Advice to those of you still in your 50s with jobs. Don't quit, unless you've got something to go to. Getting hired after 60 is a horrible experience.

Flea - My husband retired at 59 and I retired (from part time work) at 55, when we got married. These have been by far the best years of our lives. If you can possibly afford it, do it. I have no income, but I did have some savings, which are rapidly getting spent on cruises. Life goes by in a flash, the older you get. The song I want played at my funeral is, 'Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!' My ex husband retired at 60.
It sounds like your sons are finding their feet.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Pip - I always feel like a stranger wherever I go. That is because I am strange. I love being strange. You are a wonderful, unique, individual.
Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Machka - can I please eat potato chips and call it a meal? I didn’t know they had any good qualities.
Congratulations on the loss. Your yard looks so relaxing.
Heather - Would your DH use a basket? I have a little basket on the end tables that gather pens and cords, in my case some eye glass cleaner stuff and a nail file.
I personally haven’t used the laundry sheets, but my friend that camps uses them and won’t use anything else now. She has very sensitive skin.
One of my dear friends and I just had a discussion on aging. Her Dad had a heart attack and had quadruple bypass surgery this week. I asked how old he was and he’s only 75. She is older than me so I thought he must be older as my Dad would have been 81 this year.
I need to get my weight in check so that I can live longer and healthier.
Annie - I’m glad your Mom is in a place that can help her rebuild her strength.
I hope your Dad stops driving soon.
Beth - I love a Sunday roast too. Today I had nachos at the theatre and DH is having chicken wings. I’ll probably have some cereal later this evening. I purposely did not buy chips today for my evening snack.
Lanette - I have to sift through my baskets fairly regularly as well.
Lisa - you did a great job not cussing. There probably would have been some *kitten* (plural)thrown in with mine.
I had an incident with money today too. I ran to McDonald’s this morning. I just threw my debit card and phone in my hoodie pocket. About 4 hours later I left the house to go meet the girls and my friend for the movie. I stopped at Costco to get the cheap tickets and realized my bank card wasn’t in my wallet. I didn’t think a lot of it, assuming it was in my hoodie at home.
I went to the movie and came home to get my card so I could grab a couple things at the grocery store and couldn’t find it. I grabbed Rodger’s card and ran to the store. On my drive to the store I thought I better call and report my card lost. When I went to my app to get the number I saw someone had spent all but 38.00 of my money at Walmart and Winners in separate transactions. I will have the money sent back in about 2 business days. The only explanation is that I dropped it in our driveway and a neighbour walking by saw it. We have a couple that we’ve been told to watch, never had a problem with them ourselves, but maybe we have now.
People are desperate, all of my years working in security I know that it’s times like these that people come out of the woodwork. The security industry thrives during recessions and such.
Pip - you look wonderful!
Carol - I didn’t graduate because I disliked school so much. It was the social aspect that ruined it for me. Well, that and I just wanted to be grown up. Was I ever delusional. 😂
Rosemarie - you have a way with words. I felt I was there with you.
Debbie - the more I see about 3D printers the more I think I need to buy one for DH. He has wanted one for years. Problem is, he would also need a new laptop to run it.
Flea - I understand your husband’s frustration, you look and look, try and try without a response or positive outcome, but go into public all you hear is “no one wants to work, we are so short staffed”. It’s a strange world right now.
I went to see Barbie with my girls and friend. I enjoyed the movie even more this time than when I took Michaela. She had found it a bit boring, the dialogue was advanced for her.
My girls liked it.
This evening I finished my friends card.

I'm 56 and still attempting to work my way up the ladder.
My official retirement age is 67 here in Australia and I don't imagine I will retire before then.
But fortunately I "retired" twice already. 😀
Twice I have quit my job, packed everything into storage or gave it away, and hit the road with my bicycle.
Once was for 3 months in 2004, and once was for 8 months in 2012.
Meanwhile now ...
In 15 days I will reach 10 years of employment with the State Service, and will be able to access 3 months of long service leave in addition to my annual leave, purchased leave and stat leave. 😀
That's almost like a mini retirement!
As I've been saying, I've been thinking about new beginnings lately.
M in Oz5 -
Good morning dear friends. I had a relaxing weekend, and am ready for another week. Can’t believe how quickly September has flown by. Skyped with family yesterday afternoon. I love that we can all chat together even though we aren’t able to meet in person.
I have my Monday Painters after lunch. I will be workshopping with my beginners again. I do love seeing them progress.
Tomorrow morning I’m going to Craft group. I have finished the squares for my gilet and am starting to piece them together.
Wednesday, we have appointments for our boosters late morning, after our weekly shopping trip.
Monthly Meeting is on Thursday afternoon, and Latin Study is on Friday morning.
Flea: DH was in the same boat when he was made redundant in his late 40s. His self esteem suffered, with all the knock backs he received. Meanwhile, he had started volunteering to work with learning disabled adults, which he enjoyed greatly, and that lead to him working part-time in that field. Not as well paid as his previous career, but much more satisfying for him.
Tracey: I hope they didn’t get too much money. It’s good that you are getting it refunded.
Debbie: The sharks are so cool. ElderGS has a 3D printer and it’s fascinating to watch.

Given the ages my grandparents and great grandparents lived, I could keep going for another 40 years.
If I were to retire now, I would be hunting for a nice cardboard box in which to live in 20 years' time!

Flea-hope all goes well with oncology test/visit. I think it may be tough for older workers but we have hired several in the last few years. Our Agency has a jobs center where people can get experience in interviews etc. Sometimes people aren't aware of how they may portray themselves that is against them.
Pip-I have often felt like I am on the outside looking in. High school was strange for me due to moving so much. I have not gone to a reunion there. I have gotten together with college friends a couple of times.
Annie-I can't remember-any chance Dad will get hearing aids? They seem to be so much better these days than they once were and I think Medicare will help pay for them.
Lisa-I think I forgot to compliment you on your room redo-great job. Scams seem to be everywhere-at least you caught it quickly. Our real estate information is posted on the County Auditors website. To get the history you just pull up the property information and really don't have to put anything personal in.
Tracey-I am glad they didn't get any more from your account.
Machka-67 is now the official retirement age in the US-there is talk that it will expand to 70. That's why I don't feel so bad working as long as I have-I'm being a trend setter! But I am lining everything up. I will be fortunate in my retirement in that my income from the state system will be comfortable.
Terri-you have such a full schedule!
Had second negative Covid test this morning (actually my third). Am following the CDC guidelines and Saturday was end of isolation. With a negative test that day and a negative 48 hours later (this morning) I don't have to mask any more. Back in the office today.
Off to get stretches in and ready for work.
Take care all,

As I was lying in bed last night I was idly scrolling through semi-formal dresses on the M&S website. Found something in jade velvet that looked as if it might suit me! I paid for speedy shipping, so it's coming tomorrow. The good thing is, I can take it back on Wednesday, when I'm in town anyway, if I don't like it.
It will be a present for my birthday from DH.
I'm crossing fingers! It will style with boots, and I can use my cruise sparkly accessories. Wedding, here I come!

Later, lighter, lovelies!

I like shoes. I like boots better than shoes, but I like shoes. And I've got a lot of boots and shoes!
Usually I'm thinking about what I'm going to wear the next day. I set out some of it the night before but thinking about what shoes (or boots) I'm going to wear and my accessories can put me to sleep. I don't know if that's because what I wear is boring ... or that shoes and accessories make me happy and relaxed.

Ginny my dad already has hearing aids. But he still doesn't hear unless both of them are in, and he is right in front of you, looking at you. And the rest of the room is silent. He can't hear me when I'm driving because I don't face him. He reads lips somewhat. It's very isolating and very sad.
I have to help with his computer today. He has trouble with his passwords and getting passcodes.
That and visit Mom and make spaghetti for one, and do my bike and yoga. Hope to get back on track with my exercise this week.

Take care all,

Yeah, they're talking about upping it to 70 here too.
I would happily retire right now if I could, but reality is that it makes no sense at all to retire now when I'm still building my career and when I'm pretty sure we'll need income for 30 or 40 years.
By the time I do retire, my income from the state system might be all right too. We'll see.

Heather - Very nice dress and I bet it would be a great color for you.
Pip - I think it's normal that you felt like a stranger at that reunion. In a way, you were having been away from the area for so long. Many of the crowd I hung around with in school have passed away - and I wasn't in the "in" crowd. As time went on, those barriers have dropped and I keep in contact with a few folks on Facebook. Of course, I came from a small town and small classes which might have made a difference. We seem to still have that school spirit even though we've taken different paths.
Flea - how disappointing for your husband and it's a blow for sure. The last jobs my DH had were at the local college where he was hired part time as adjunct faculty teaching computers and electronics. He was in his 60's then, and it worked into a full time systems administrator position which gave him a small pension. He had to retire a few months before his 65th birthday for health reasons. Crossing fingers your DH finds something that is fulfilling.
Thank you for the catch up on your boys, they sure have grown up fast. Those fire photos are wild. We are finally getting measurable rain here this week and I hope Port Orford's area has gotten a good soak. Something needs to put an end to the fire worries for all of us.
Lisa - sorry to hear about the scam. Sounds like the scammers and hackers are going wild these days.
Tracey - and sorry as well to hear about your debit card charges. Glad you'll be getting reimbursement.
Debbie - that 3D printer is neat, I've never seen one in action. Nice that you have an arrangement with the restaurant. You are a master at "side jobs" with that and the grocery store marketing gigs.
Margaret - thank you for the reminder that even FB isn't safe.
Annie - so sorry about your dad's hearing loss. I've come to the conclusion we all become lip readers as we age so hopefully our vision sticks around even if our hearing goes south. That was one thing that made the mandated masking so hard for a lot of folks. That and missing seeing smiles - the human connection. Glad that so far it seems voluntary this round.
The weatherman says we'll see some big winds today. Glad I'm home to keep an eye on the chicken run situation and hoping nothing goes airborne.
I just made a little pot of rice for unstuffed cabbage roll casserole. It's a crockpot recipe but I didn't get everything ready yesterday so will put it in a casserole dish and pop it in the oven later today. Hoping the wind doesn't knock out power.
Have a wonderful week.
