@martaindale You are doing great! I know it is hard when you have to skip a couple of runs and running after work can be a challenge. Hang in there. Like you said, you are very consistent, so I'm sure you'll figure it out. I hope you had fun with your eclipse viewing party.
Glad you checked in @tarun_yadavA ! I hope you find a safe place for a run and those hours of work don't really sound like fun, even though it will give you time in the morning for sleeping in AND working out!2 -
2.5 mile walk/run this morning. A bit longer than the last one. Beautiful fall crisp, cool morning after a rainy Saturday.

Today I was channeling my inner Scott. LOL. It was a little chilly with a strong North wind and in the mid 50's but such a NICE change from all summer long with dew points in the 70's that I thought I would see what happened.
I put the puma's on and was really surprised to see my HR in the 116 range for almost the first 2 miles. Yeah I was slow but normally I am already in the 130's by mile 2 or higher. So I decided to see what sort of low cardio I could accomplish. Ended up with 8 miles and almost a record for me staying in zone 1 and 2. To put in perspective normally I am running in zone 4 and 5 the entire run. Guess that "training" in the summer helped.
I am at 97.19 for the month out of 100 goal. hmmm. Today I thought what about trying for 200 this month. esp with the extra day and great weather. The most I have ever done in a month is 241 back in early 2021 when I was working on running the run the year. I don't think I can top that.

Hi everyone, wow, 9 days away and more than 100 posts to read up on, way too many to comment on. Except to say @martaindale I laughed at your judgy Garmin too. I continue to confuse the heck out of Garmeen the drama queen, my turtle pace on technical trails generally keeps her from saying I'm overtraining but other than that she changes her opinion pretty much every day.
My time away... I ran a 25km trail race in the mountains to the north of Granada (not Sierra Nevada) on the 7th, then that afternoon we headed east and made our way up to Barcelona, stayed a couple of nights then drove back down via Zaragoza and Toledo. The race was awesome, the plan was to use it as a training run/practice race with aid stations. Although we didn't want to race it, there was a 5 and a half hour cutoff and we knew the second half was where it would hurt, so we went a little quicker than was comfortable for the first 12km to bank some time. That part had an elevation gain of 400 m, and the total was around 1200.I had told my husband it would take me around 5 hours. I finished in 4:22. One day I will be brave enough to make less conservative estimates of how long races will take me! That could be an issue for the upcoming relay. It takes about an hour to drive to the place I end and the next girl takes over. I really don't know how long it will take. If I get there before she does we waste precious time. If I make her get there early she loses precious sleep.
There was a really 'fun' almost vertical climb with ropes, tricky because I forgot my belt to store my poles so had to leave them hanging from my wrists and the ends kept catching on rocks. The photos don't do it justice.
Then came some steepish downhill stretches that I found hard but stayed upright. One guy came flying past us and fell soon afterwards, he didn't seem hurt but just sat on the floor with his head in his hands and didn't answer when we asked if anything hurt or anything. There were 7 of us with him so I carried on to the next aid station to get a medical crew sent out to him.
By that point it was hot and the toughest climb was almost at the end. Singletrack winding up a steep, bare mountain in the sun. Vertigo kicked in so I was focused on just not looking down, which is a shame because I saw the views later in photos and wow. Still, survival mode told me if I looked it would make my legs shake and they needed to keep going hahaha.
The best thing is this race was also the Spanish trail running championship for police and military, so it was very well organised. There were water stops at the bottom and the top of that climb but as it was hot they posted 4 teams with more water on the way up to pour over peoples' heads and refill bottles. I was actually ok, all the hill training I've been doing really paid off. Altogether that upward stretch was about 3km, I took the first 2 slow and steady then my friend said she was stopping for a break and told me not to wait. I looked up and could see the cross at the top and realised I was feeling strong and could pick up the pace a bit more! Over the top and it was a relatively easy trail back down to base. I probably should have gone slower but a lot of hikers were on that stretch (there was a 12km hike option as well as the trail race) and it was great fun passing them hahahaha.
We got home yesterday lunchtime, then a group of us met up at 7:30 pm for our last long training run. Nowhere near as many hills as I would have liked, but I got to see some new trails I'd not run before. It was 2:30 am by the time I got home. 4 by the time I'd had dinner and showered. Crazy, and I'm exhausted today of course. I only ran once during the week, but we walked and walked and walked. My feet hurt!
One more week of 'normal' training, then it's taper time. I really must get in some solid strength work and clean my diet up now, road trips was bad for both those things. So, it's gonna be a rough 3 weeks of discipline and nerves but we're almost there. SO excitified!

You are doing great @daria0919 !
@Mari33a Great running. Weather can be such a motivator.
Great running @SummerSkier !. Almost a hundred miles already!!! Great HR for todays run and love the picture.
You are amazing @eleanorhawkins ! I can't even imagine that race. I hope the guy who fell wasn't hurt. I hope you can figure out your timing okay on the relay face in a few weeks. How far is each leg of the race? I have forgotten.
Great run today @mnsmov15 !

It was 46°F when I started my run this morning. I wore shorts and a t-shirt, and I added my sleeves. I did take them off after 3 miles, but I was glad to have them. I ran 12 miles and it was 56°F by the time I got home, but that was still pretty nice.
Great race report @eleanorhawkins !
Great running @SummerSkier !
I don't know how you do it @quilteryoyo !

@quilteryoyo they just changed the stages slightly due to the date coinciding with some festival in the village we were due to do the changeover so my stage is now slightly shorter than initially planned. According to the maps, it will be 39km with 2300m of elevation gain, then the final stage we do together is another 10km with 500m gain. Forecasts change a lot here, but we seem to have some rain coming (at last!) which may really throw a spanner in the works. I like running in the rain, but what it will mean in terms of slippy ground and mud and the amount of water in the river we cross multiple times, all combined with running through the night, could make things even more interesting!
Re not keeping up with your training plan, you are so consistent with your exercise that I really don't think it's the end of the world if you don't exactly follow what someone wrote on a piece of paper (or computer screen). The amount of activity you get in on a day-to-day basis is amazing.5 -
Morning all.
Got in a 6K (09"52).
Found a little route around the apartment complex. Didn't fancy going to a gym.
Try and detox a touch... Laying off the alcohol this week... But OMG. The food. Sooo good. Not a particularly healthy cuisine either.
@quilteryoyo thank you 😊
@SummerSkier you can totally do 200! 💪
@eleanorhawkins well done on your race!8 -
@eleanorhawkins Thanks for the race report. You blew your prediction out of the water! It's got to feel good to know all those hilly workouts are paying off. Great work!
@SummerSkier That's quite a difference in your heart rate! It's amazing how much of an effect the temps can have.
I didn't have time to squeeze a run in before we left the hill country yesterday but the weather is actually pretty nice in Houston this week too. This weather is my favorite. Cool and crisp as the humidity tends to back off a little. ❤️6 -
@eleanorhawkins very nice job on your race! You killed it!
@SummerSkier great progress for the halfway point of the month. Don't kill yourself, but I'm sure you can reach 200 miles by the end of the month. I agree, those hot summer runs are paying off.
It was 48F this morning with 8 mph wind. Honestly thought it would feel much colder than it did, but it felt nice, except for my hands. Wore light gloves and glad that I did. Also thought I was cutting 2 miles off of my regular route, so when I stopped my watch at the end of the run I was really surprised to see 6.2 miles. Was intending on just doing 5.

Great running @kgirlhart ! It seemed to have gone from hot to cold overnight. I'm glad you had good weather today for your run.
@eleanorhawkins That sounds like a brutal race. I hope it isn't too muddy/slippery, esp for the night time segments. Thanks for your words of wisdom too. I think as long as I do what I can on a day to day basis, I'll be okay. I do need to try a bit harder to get in some long runs on the weekends, if I am going to continue to try to run 10 mile + races.
Nice safer run @tarun_yadavA ! Detox is a good idea. The food...well, I say eat it while you are there and then get back to your routine once back home. You always seem to do so well at that.
Great run @Scott6255 . I don't know that I have ever accidently ran a mile longer than intended. I'm more likely to look at my watch and find I'm only half the distance I was sure that I had run already. Glad the weather was good for you.
Nice running @Mari33a !
Another nice run @AlphaHowls ! Those helicopters that low are loud too.5 -

Speed work this morning. 6 x 800m. I hit every repeat within a few seconds! I felt a lot stronger this week too. Even though these were done at the same pace, this longer interval felt easier than last week’s 600m. The weather gets most of the credit. It was 50F, 80% humidity - lovely. I am probably also seeing some adaptation to the faster pace but mostly, it’s a good example of the effect weather conditions can have.5 -

My plan had been to do a tempo run before work today. I did get up early enough to do the planned run, but had forgotten I needed to feed the neighbor's animals. I also needed to go see mom for a few minutes and when I got back, Tippy ran into a plant and knocked it over, so I had to clean that up. By then, I only had 1.5 hours left before needing to leave for work/errands and I hadn't eaten my normal breakfast yet. So, I punted and shortened the run. I counted my warm up and cool down walks as the Zone one part of the work out. I then ran 5/12/3:05 min at 4.5/5.0/4.5 mph pace. Was supposed to do 5/5/15/5/5 min at 4.2/4.5/5.0/4.5/4.2. As it was, I finished at just the right time and didn't have to rush too much to get a shower, eat, and leave. I was pleased with what I did.7 -
Morning everyone!
Got in another 6K (09"18).
Gonna use this week to try and get some kind of routine and health-IER eating (from a very low bar!)... Before wife+kids turn up on Sat7 -
Was yet out of the running due to reflux from hell. Not a good idea to exercise when there's the risk of getting stomach acid into your airways. Meh!

You're doing much better with the exercise than you thought you would @tarun_yadavA .
@yirara Sorry you are having stomach issues. I've had serious acid reflux before and it can be so painful. I hope it gets better soon. Are you taking anything for it?

Thanks a lot @quilteryoyo I only ever feel reflux around my vocal chords, throat, mouth and nose. And in my airways if I exercise or speak a lot. Not much helps, really. PPI and antacids do next to nothing. Thus I have to be very careful, not exercise, not speak too much. I think I'm fine again2 -

It was cold this morning at 42°F. At least that is cold for me. I wore a t-shirt with my sleeves and capri length pants and gloves. I usually wear shorts unless it is below 45°F, and even then I often wear shorts. If it had been sunny I probably would have, but since it was dark I wore the pants and I was pretty comfortable. My gloves are actually mittens that open up to fingerless gloves. I did open and close them several times, but I kept my sleeves on the whole time. Other than being the first real cold run of the year, the run was pretty uneventful. It was a pretty morning and the stars were bright so I enjoyed running and got 6.25 miles done before I had to go home and get ready for work.

@tarun_yadavA that's absolutely terrific that you found a place around the compound which you could get some miles in. I am especially thrilled to see you reining back some of the outrageous food and drink which seems to happen when you travel. You struggled SO much this year to get back to exactly where you wanted to be and it would be nice if when you get home you don't have to be a monk again. However I can see you are an all or nothing type. 🤷♀️🙃😳🤣💖 We each have a method to our madness maybe
@kgirlhart it was chilly this am but not as much as yesterday since the wind had died down. Mid 40's here and the only thing I contemplated a little bit was perhaps I should have opened a hand warmer into my gloves or worn mittens as my fingers did get a little chilled.
Yesterday I ran in my oldest pair of Nikes which so far had been holding the line as far as shin splints. Maybe it was the colder weather which effected the cushion or maybe they just hit their expiration but sometime early yesterday afternoon my shin splint reared up ugly. 🥹😳 So I had to trash them. 😞 I hate that and need to find a younger twin to donate these 6.5 women shoes to because they really still look perfectly wonderful.
This morning I wasn't sure if I would have pain or not but I put on one of my newest pairs of shoes and altho it hurt to start it did not seem to be getting worse and I ended up running a 10K. Perhaps I should take it as a sign I need another pair of shoes... (not really) The Puma shoes were fun and I think I am going to wait for Nike to refresh some of their racing styles again before going back there.
I am at 107 out of 100 goal and currently avg about 10k per day which is a lot for me. I don't think I will make 200 miles for the month but it will be probably my best one month of the year.
Looked at the forecast for the weekend and it seems like it might be warming back up again. Not going to be great for racing in that respect.
@quilteryoyo you are actually doing really well and I think your mileage is almost double that of last year. Sometimes you have to punt and pivot to the plan. It's sort of why I never really HAVE a plan until I start out. Mostly I am just glad to get out the door and past the first mile without giving up.
