Today’s gratitude: rain clearing the air, softening the earth, replenishing our cistern and I hope quenching the fires.
Ginny yours about hurtful words. Sad truth. Katla is struggling with mfp and misses all her mfp friends.
Barbie great memes, especially “giving thanks for unknown blessings already on their way.”
Carol I don’t have details on Katla’s family health issues yet, perhaps they will become clearer as we chat more often.
Oh Allie, I am so sorry you got scammed. ((hugs))
Michele Ouch! I’d never heard of vibrantreader’s toothpaste for mosquito bites, and had forgotten about baking soda (thanks Ginny!) and ammonia.
Lisa Was that frost on your beautiful lawn? Amazing Watchman device. ((hugs)) Really admire your philosophical and “I’ll be happier tomorrow” attitude. ((hugs))
Kylia your grits story reminds me of the one time Mama said if I didn’t eat “X” she’d send me to bed without supper. Stood right up and went to bed. Back in those days I’d always rather sleep than eat.
Margaret admire your wholesome approach, bentonite clay/vinegar poultice good call!
Machka congrats on the beautiful honey!
Heather ‘spider therapy’?
Chair yoga tomorrow will make my legs feel better, then possible lunch with T to belatedly celebrate her birthday. Caught myself giving her “helpful advice” and apologized for being so bossy/telling her what to do. This is going to be harder than I thought ;{10/9: Move: 2 sets PT w/x&a, line dance class, dogs to powerline, Jeopardy walking. Steps:8242
Fuel: sugar in vs mfp=34 CI<CO net=719 vits=1

Rebecca-mercurachrome and rubbing alcohol seemed to cure everything when I was young!
Last night not an overly good sleep night. Of course, I knocked out early so probably did get 55-6 solid hours-just work up early and dozed off and on.
Drive to Columbus for meeting today. Don't know if I will then go to physical office over there for a 2:30 or will be able to make it back home for virtual. Hoping for virtual because will avoid end of day traffic.
Wonder how Penny is? And Karen?
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio3 -
Ginny- I was wondering the same thing..
Busy day today.. have to go to the bank, contact Social security,IRS and change my pin # on everything and stop at the police station to report it,I screenshot the text with # maybe they can dig deeper3 -
Good morning!
It was 34 degrees this morning. I am thankful for my house, heat, long johns, and heated seats in truck. I reckon also thankful for hot tub to warm me up to the core.
10. Reflect on things you have accomplished recently....I got my pile of paper dealt with properly, caught up on emails, bills, and bank accounts. I have friend's gifts ordered and shipped ahead of the date! (Yes I am that person scrambling at the last hour). I have made significant progress with work backlog. I can breath a little easier because of these things.
Thinking of Penny and her beloved country.
Sending healing thoughts to Katla too.
Make today a good day with the best choices you can make,
Loves,

I texted Penny just now and got a message back to say she is fine - just getting older with the same huge amount of work.
She hopes to have time to log in , but sends her love.
Gradually getting things together. Sorting liquids, meds etc.

Lisa - wow, that Watchman looks neat! And what a good option. Like that it's a minimally invasive procedure to get it placed. Amazing what they can do these days. Crossing fingers it all gets set up fine for you to get it and it helps you.
Machka - that honey is gorgeous. How long will it take you and your DH to consume it?
Barbara - thank you for checking on Katla. I wonder if they were able to sell their Oregon home, as I recall, they had someone lined up and it fell through. But that was a while ago. And last I heard, her husband was good enough that they were able to walk together. So grateful the kids got them moved where their daughter can keep a better eye on them.
Rebecca - I love hearing the updates on your Navy guys. As kids, it's amazing we survived mertholiate, then iodine painted on our skinned knees. Vicks rubbed on our chests to help with coughs and colds (I still do that!) We survived the flu and upset stomachs with a bottle of 7-up. We didn't drink pop at our house, it was used as medicine.
Allie - well shoot. It's so hard to avoid these scammers, they seem so real. Glad you were able to get through to the credit card company, hope all your notification calls today go smoothly.
Related to scammers - an acquaintance in CA is the executor of his girlfriend's estate after she passed from cancer several months ago. He said folks claiming to be creditors are coming out of the woodwork saying she owed them $$ and of course they don't have any paperwork or legitimate proof supporting their claims. But he still has to deal with it. Sign of the times I guess - the crooks are getting desperate.
I had a good visit with Dr. Matt yesterday. He confirmed my idea about antibiotics and even emotions/stress playing a part in environmental allergies and food intolerances. And how cutting down or eliminating sugar & processed foods can help. It's one of the reasons I'm doing better these days. Keep eating that yogurt, ladies. Fresh sauerkraut too if you can stand it, lol. Heather's stinky cheese. The more critters in our gut, the better.
Also, I should be getting around 80 grams of protein per day. But not to worry if I don't hit the mark all the time since our bodies have the amazing ability to pull in additional amino acids from all the foods we eat and make protein that doesn't register on the MFP diary.
Looks like rain and a stiff breeze arriving here today. I'll have a LOT of leaves to rake up next time the sun shines, but I don't mind. It's that physical activity my body craves. I just need to remember not to overdo it and break the tasks down into smaller chunks.
Have a great day.

Morning from the pre-dawn light of the Arkansas Valley,
I slept well over eight hours last night, feeling quite a bit better this morning... woke up with my coffee and some legit research, and it's all quite a rosy outlook for the implantation of the Watchman device--it has a proven track record of diminishing stroke risk sharply, which makes me happy. Not taking blood thinners makes me happy, too. My mother's stroke wasn't repairable because of the blood thinners she was taking that kept her alive for the last 20 years of her life. Double-edged sword.
Allie - This only applies if you fall and hit your head, so DON'T DO THAT. So pleased you were using your cane to hang onto your balance while you were treading around the mud of the fair. Our vanity should always take second place to our safety and health.
Allie - I'm so sorry about the scam, darlin'! I literally just read an article yesterday about a woman who handed over her life savings of $661,000 to a man on the phone who said he was an employee of her bank. You are not stupid, and most importantly, you are not alone!
For any of us who's talking to someone, whether by text or email or phone who says they are from your bank, verify the information! If they don't have your information, like account numbers, etc., and say they want to verify it, they are lying. Either go into your bank or if like me, your bank isn't near you, call your bank directly, not to any number that you get from the person contacting you, to verify what you're hearing from anyone. Billions of dollars are lost by individuals to scammers each year.
Lanette - I'm so glad your Dr. Matt is happy with how you're doing, and that you are too. And oh my stars, exactly the same home remedies growing up. We got 7-Up when we were ill, there was no other soda at home, ever, they were a luxury. Mama put mercurochrome on minor wounds and iodine if they were more serious. Pepto-Bismol if your stomach was pooky, which mine was throughout 5th grade, when I didn't get along with the teacher, Miss Cariker. Vicks VapoRub on your chest and back if you had a cold or 'flu. I do keep it around still, but now I put it on my nose when it gets super dry from blowing it, or when one nostril completely closes. It's also helpful up your nose if you have to deal with really bad smells.
Barbara - Thank you for reaching out to Katla! We do worry about our friends when they are absent... Good for you on backing up on the unsolicited advice--I'm terrible about it, both here and in real life.
Machka - The difference in the color is absolutely fascinating between the two jars of honey - I love how bees adapt to their environments in that way.
Heather - Thank you so much for reaching out to Penny! I'm looking forward to pictures and stories from your trip.
Kylia - Thank you for telling me about your friend. Knowing the anecdotal stories is always helpful when you're dealing with these kinds of things, and the low-dose medicine I'm on is also a beta blocker, and that is apparently for life. My best friend's husband is also looking at having an ablation, as he has intermittent AFib, but they're trying him on some of the newer blood thinners first.
Ah... there goes the dryer. While it's still cold outside, time to get some laundry folded as I didn't get to it yesterday, then out to get Corey's tomatoes watered, and get a few other things done while I'm traipsing around out there.
Love y'all!

I'm on the bus to pick Bea up. Very slow in the traffic.
DH is walking.
I booked the taxi for the airport. With the early start it is much easier than the train, though not cheap!

Allie, so sorry to hear of the scamming. It is so easy to be taken in because we want to believe people are being honest. In the last month I've had two calls from people asserting they are from my bank and want to make my account safe from scammers. They sounded so legitimate but the bank said they didn't have anyone making the calls. It would have been easy to have given my information. Scary.
My sister and I came home late yesterday rather than staying near the cancer center. Her labs and CT scan were both done yesterday so we don't have appts until midday tomorrow. Both of us decided we'd sleep and eat better if we came home for two nights. We will go back tomorrow morning. The steroids are making my sister so tired and irritable because she can't get a good night sleep. I hope we get some answers with the labs and screenings.
Thank you for being here with support.

Did you give them your Social Security number?
Keeping your credit reports frozen if you don't need to access your credit is a wise idea. Mine have been frozen for years and I only temporarily unfreeze it if needed. That's only been one time in the past 10 years and it was only one bureau. It was accessible for 2 hours and automatically froze again. I love that we can do that now.

1.Write down three things you can look forward to this month. 1. Another month of sobriety 2. Cooler weather 3. Decorating for Halloween8. Make some progress on a project or task you’ve been avoiding. I need to clean the cabinets out. I am planning to start today. Didn’t happen.
2. Find something to be optimistic about (even if it’s a difficult time). I am optimistic about cooler weather.
3. Take a small step to a goal that really matters to you. I need to call my uncle.
4. Start the day with the most important thing on your to-do-list. Updating this list and My Fitness Pal.
5. Be a realistic optimist. See life as it is but focus on what’s good. I usually hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I think this counts!
6. Remind yourself that things can change for the better. No matter how bad you think it is, it can always get worse. So enjoy life no matter where you are, or what you are doing, or your circumstances.
7. Look for the good in people around you today. I can do this if I try. This was not difficult to do with visitors. Employees were a different matter!
9. Share an important goal with someone you trust.
10. Take time to reflect on what you have accomplished recently. I have accomplished coloring pages, making doctor appointments, calming my nerves by taking some actions I never tried before, and more.11. Avoid blaming yourself or others. Find a helpful way forward.
12. Look out for positive news and reasons to be cheerful today.
13. Ask for help to overcome an obstacle you are facing.
14. Do something constructive to improve a difficult situation
15. Thank yourself for achieving the things you often take for granted.
16. Put down your to-list and do something fun or uplifting.
17. Take a small step toward a positive change you want to see in society.
18. Set hopeful, but realistic goals for the days ahead.
19. Identify one of your positive qualities that will be helpful in the future.
20. Find joy in tackling a task you’ve put off for some time.
21. Let go of the expectations of others and focus on what matters to you.
22. Share a hopeful quote, picture, or video with a friend or colleague
23. Recognize that you have a choice of what to prioritize.
24. Write down three specific things that have gone well recently.
25. You can’t do everything! What are three priorities right now?
26. Find a new prospective on a problem you face.
27. Be kind to yourself today. Remember progress takes time.
28. Ask yourself ‘will this still matter a year from now?’
29. Plan a fun or exciting activity to look forward to.
30. Identify three things that give you hope for the future.
31. Set a goal that brings a sense of purpose for the coming month.]/spoiler]

Vibrantreader – these aren’t mosquito bites, they’re red ants. The most effective thing I’ve found is aiming your blowdryer at the itch and holding it there as long as you can possibly stand it. This temporarily relieves the itch. The reason it does is because the heat breaks up the histamines that cause the itching.
M – oh, breathing is fine. Urgent Care really can’t do anything. It’ll go away. The ice I put on it earlier really didn’t help, guess it’s been too long since I got the bites. Thanks for your concern. Actually, the heat from the blowdryer works faster than an antihistamine. The antihistamine has to go thru your system first, the hot air works immediately
Margaret – benodyte clay and vinegar? Never heard of it, but that makes sense. I know when we went camping, we used this stuff called “After Bite” which I think was basically either vinegar or ammonia. I remember it worked really well.
Lisa – so glad you won’t have open heart surgery.
put my toucan in to be fired at ceramics. Now working on this fish placque.
Off to watch some TV and then bed.

When I got multiple mosquito bites and wanted relief quick- I jumped in a hot shower- took care of them all at once
got my arm, thigh, calf, etc- all done at one time and quick. Plus, beings it was in the middle of the night- it was quieter.
I am so thankful we don't have fire ants here. I dealt with them when I lived in Mobile. Had never seen them before that. Had them and those darn "no-see-ums".
During the day when hubby was on base, me and the little 3 yr old neighbor boy would go around and pour boiling water on all the red ant hills in my lawn(it was a HUGE lawn). Hated mowing that thing(took 3 long electrical cords to reach the front) and running over the ant hills.
Loved walking down the long dirt road to check the mail-I was super home sick so mail was a treat-and watching out for the hills and trying not to get bit too many times.

Bea went on Sunday for 'spider therapy ' as she was phobic with spiders. She really enjoyed it and said she's not scared any more. They had a go with different sized spiders. Here is the tarantula!!!
I have a video of her playing with a house spider.

Lisa one of our friend's had the watchman installed a few months ago. He wanted off the eliquis. He has had no issues with it. He too has afib. He has had 2 ablation that didn't work. I am thankful that the ablation for my DH worked and he is no longer on blood thinner. He is however still on a low dose beta blocker.
Michele Fireant bites are the worst! I was trying to remember what my mother used when we lived in Alabama. I was thinking baking soda paste, but could be wrong.

Lanette -what fond memories of your grandmother.
The doctor didn’t suggest ice, probably because I told him I had tried heat and ice.
I don’t know what it was, but it’s almost completely better today. No pain or swelling, just tender if I move it the wrong way.
Your deck looks lovely. That was a project we wanted to get done this year and didn’t.
Ginny - I don’t know what they tested. He said that the bloodwork showed an inflammation. DH raised his eyebrows too. It was 2am and I had been awake since 6am so didn’t think to ask.
I hope that they listen to your SIL.
Terri - I love your response about the B word.
Barbara - I say I live in Edmonton, but actually live in a city about 20 minutes outside of Edmonton. We have our own hospital. The city of Edmonton has 4 big hospitals and several acute care facilities that can handle broken bones, stitches and most common illnesses, they don’t have surgeries or specialists. There are also several walk in clinics.
AHS (the governing body) has an alert system that advises every hospital what status the others are in. The public can also look at wait times for the different hospital emergency departments.
When the hospital reaches a red level they close until they have it under control, it’s called Red Alert, this is also communicated to ambulances so they know where to take patients.
When I was there Friday evening all of the city hospitals were on red alert so people and ambulances were diverted to our little hospital which made for the long wait. It’s a system, a broken one, but a system just the same.
Another contributing factor is that all of the family doctors and walk in clinics are losing doctors and aren’t able to find new ones so they only have doctors for limited hours and can only see a certain number of patients in a day. So some people, myself included, that would normally just go to a walk in clinic has to use emergency because there is no other choice.
We do have a system we can call to speak to a nurse to see if we need to see a doctor. There is a telehealth thing through one of our communication companies but it’s not part of our free healthcare as far as I know.
Rita - I like that quote.
My grandson bought a pogo stick last summer at a yard sale. My daughter was so excited, she was showing him how to do it and fell. She broke her glasses and bruised herself for weeks.
My granddaughter bought a skipping rope this summer.
Thanks for the info, I think my problem is Coke, the drink. I haven’t had chips for a week now. I need to keep that up.
Rebecca - your sister’s work is beautiful. I love that style of painting.
Kim - that sounds like a great idea to make a meal a week. The food was a nice surprise. Enjoy!
Kelly - Sorry to hear about your sister, but it sounds positive. The little boys are cute.
Michele - My MIL and Mom used to come watch our girls at our house because it was easier for the girls. They were in their own beds, had their toys and everything.
I truly understand your hurt about them not coming to NC though. I get a bit hurt when my daughter comes to town and doesn’t stop for a visit.
I’m going to post them and then go read another 4 pages.
I got behind.

The laundry's done, but then my gut went a little sideways, more so than in a while, so I've been sticking close. Hard to settle to something when you don't feel well. Stress-filled days like yesterday have a tendency to ripple into the next, unfortunately, but it will pass.
Just trying to treat myself well for the rest of the day and let my body rest. Might even be able to do that if my mind stops yammering at me for a few minutes. It may be running 100 miles an hour, but my body is not today. It's like the crickets, grasshoppers and monkey minds all got together and then they see a squirrel.
I loved that movie...
Onward and upward, kids, at the pace of your choosing and no one else's...

Rebecca – isn't it amazing some of the things we did/had done to us as a child and we’re still living to talk about it. In a way, it’s a shame that kids today are in such a bubble.
Heather – thanks so much for that link. How many times I think of Penny! Hope she’s doing well
Lanette – I echo what you said about katla. Somehow we survived drinking water out of the hose, no car seats, going outside by ourselves, etc.
Lisa – I wonder what would happen if a scammer called to verify your account number and you told him the number he had wasn’t your account number, but you gave him a bogus number? Boy, would he be in for a surprise!
Right before we moved my wallet was stolen. So I had my credit frozen. Well, when we went to buy this house, I had to provide my SS number. Our realtor (who had been a realtor for quite some time) said she’d never heard of this. I know it was because my accounts were frozen and they wanted to verify that it was me who was making this large investment.
Off to put more blocks in around the pool. I’m going to wear gloves just in case. My hand is still itching. I’ve been taking a blow dryer to work with me for the last few days and have been using it. I know this is going to go away. Our bodies are amazing at healing themselves. I also know that if I go to a doctor, all he’ll say is “yup, you’re having a reaction to a bug bite” I can’t help remembering one time a while ago I had this rash around my waist. It was summertime and I kept telling the MD that it was a heat rash from exercising. She insisted it was a food allergy. So she put me on prednisone. The next day we went on vacation further north where it was cooler. The rash went away. I stopped the prednisone, only I didn’t know that you had to wean yourself off it. But, fortunately, I hadn’t taken much. I tell you, I firmly believe that we know our bodies better than the MD.
Deb – hot shower or blowdryer...same thing. A friend of ours runs his hand under hot water. Does the same thing, breaks up the histamines.
Just got back from walking to the dollar store. Needed an anniversary card for Denise and paper plates for tomorrow. Found two more dishtowels that I’ll put the topper on
Tracey – did your MIL and Mom live in the same town as you?
Finished all the blocks we could do. Tomorrow a.m. we'll probably buy the last 20. Vince says we need 18, but I say get an extra two and you can always return one. It would be terrible to get to the end and need just one more.
Jess may be down this weekend. I'd like for her (and Colby if he comes here) to help bring in the ceramics. Maybe it'll only be a one day thing rather than a 2 day affair.
Vince is going shooting with the Newcomers and I’ll probably go to ceramics tonight.
The plan is to do some HIIT tomorrow. Have my BDT tomorrow late morning.

Tracey--I agree there is good in the world. The man with the pizza was an example.
Lanette--Thanks for sharing the chicken facts. I learned something. Your deck looks very nice.
Barbie--When I read that about Jake telling his friends and love one lock your doors and be safe reminds me I say that to my kids all the time. It is my way of saying love you .
KJ--Prayers and hugs.
Michele--Maybe they want at their house as he would be more comfortable around his stuff with mom and dad gone. Just a thought. Like our house is not child proof so I would like it better as then I can relax and enjoy my time with the baby.
Up to page 21, had meeting all afternoon.

Regarding getting calls from scammers ...
I don't answer my phone.
Occasionally, I will answer it if I know exactly who it is (like my husband), but 9.5 times out of 10, I'll let it go to voice mail even if I suspect I know who it might be.
If it is something important, they'll leave a message.
When it comes to calls from a bank ... a bank would never call you and then ask you to provide personal information.

We've got 6 jars so far - 3 of the light, 3 of the dark, with more dark on the way.
We're most of the way through one of the light ones.
So the 6 jars might last 6 months or so.
Jars about that size of raw honey here go for at least $12 ... so at least $72 worth of honey so far.

The discussion made me think deeply about how I respond to language that affects me negatively. I try to meet it with love the best I can. I am sometimes more successful than others. Sometimes forgiveness is where I need to start.
One example I gave showed how a group in charge of a funeral met a family and friends grieving suffering a horrible loss who used raw language in the pain or their loss with love and compassion rather than asking them to stop.
The other example I used was when I was teaching and a student would make bad choices in their language I would tell them they were too good looking to use that kind of language rather than scold them.
Thank you my friends... I feel so fortunate to have all of you with all your love and your wisdom. I appreciate all the support given to me here.

I like the idea of saying .. you too good looking for that. I might use that? More for behavior than bad words. Wedgie pulling 😊
Thank you Margaret.. your one of the reasons I’m going to give this ago again. ❤️
@vibrantreader Glad you decided to stay. This really is a great bunch of gals. Even if we do blow our tops once in a while, we know we won’t be judged harshly. I’ve tried toothpaste in the past for bites, and had mixed results.
Lisa: It’s good to know that you have had a workable solution.
Went to craft this morning. I’m crocheting these little pumpkins to embellish my flower arrangement on Thursday. Grocery shopping early tomorrow.

Machka - For you, from a book called "Master of Change: How to Excel When Everything Is Changing, Including You," by Brad Stulberg. Trying to also follow, but stumble, on occasion.
Next time you are faced with uncertainty or change, follow the four 4P’s:
- Pause and collect yourself.
- Process by naming your emotion.
- Plan by assessing your skills, capabilities, and resources.
- Proceed, treating your next steps as experiments and adjusting as you go.
