Heather - Sorry the rain set in just in time for your DH's birthday, but it is October... Not sure when you head home, but it appears there's rain for the next few days as well. Kind of fun checking the weather in France. Loved the birthday videos! And the picture of Johnnie and his daughter is absolutely wonderful. So pleased you took the trip, and it sounds like your French club meetings have paid off, as well. Lots of stories to tell on your return.
I've got my feet up, trying to get the pain to resolve somewhat. Haven't done much today, not sure what triggered it--possibly the hard chair (even with chair cushions) that I'm sitting on while I work on the piece I'm doing now. I might actually have to take a warm bath and try to get to feeling better. I don't take baths much, it makes me think I'm sitting in people soup. The pain is just annoying, but I've learned better than to "push through the pain." It doesn't work, just escalates. I do have my noon meds taken, hopefully they'll cut in soon.
Had such a hard time going to sleep last night, had an idea in hand for the glass vase that I'm working on doing some 3D work with polymer clay. The vividness of my own images was keeping me awake! Did, in the end, sleep nearly nine hours, which is has become a frequent miracle, but I still marvel. This morning, I've gotten a long way toward making the images from my head real. Should be interesting if it works. Then we'll have to see if it will actually bake onto the glass vase. It's at a stage now where I can start taking pictures, and I will.
Later, my dears,
Love y'all!

This is where you may need to step in and take charge. He may be smart and an adult, but if he is heading into dementia, his brain may not be operating the way it once did, and you'll need to be his brain.
In this case, the soap he uses probably doesn't matter but ...
You may have to show him what to use. You may need to hide the dishwashing soap and make the laundry detergent really visible. You may need to start labelling things.
That said, when I've been on long cycling tours, I would bring a small bottle of dish soap and use it for my dishes, laundry and sometimes me as well. Soap is soap.

On walking ...
This site has been around for a while and measures (to some degree) the walkability score of places in several countries. In other words, if you put your address in, it will tell you how good your area is for walking.
https://www.walkscore.com/
My place has a walk score of 53 out of 100, meaning that some things can be accomplished by walking.
Hobart, where I work, has a walk score of 92 our of 100!!
They've also ranked US and Canadian cities by their walkability ... with a walk score, transit score, and bike score.
https://www.walkscore.com/cities-and-neighborhoods/
So, I walk to the bus and home again from the bus every day. That's 0.8 km.
Then, at lunch, I walk around Hobart. Walking is probably the most efficient way to run errands in the city. Plus I can walk further if I'm out for a recreational walk.
Strava (app that tracks exercise) has a monthly challenge to walk 50 km/month ... and I aim to do that.

The rash all over my face neck and upper chest is easing. I'm still very lumpy but not so red.

Machka ... my home has a walk score of zero!! This undoubtedly contributes to my weight issues. When I was growing up, I lived in a neighborhood where we walked to school and to a small grocery store or to the bus stop. I used to walk a couple of miles to work with no problem. I was skinny then.
Lisa ... "people soup" ...
Heather ... Happy Birthday to Johnnie!

Good evening, ladies.
Just got on here and reading through the many posts.
Tracey so sorry to read about your cousin’s family. Hopefully everyone makes a full recovery. Every year there seem to be accidents with atv and side by sides. We each have an atv but just ride them on our property mainly for farm purposes but occasionally for enjoyment. Hope you find out what is causing your vertigo. I experienced that condition a few years ago and it ended up being from a cholesterol lowering drug. Stopped the drug and vertigo went away. I take synthroid for hashimoto’s and if I am on the correct dosage, my cholesterol levels are fine.
Allie dismantling Carmine’s bedroom is just so sad.
Heather enjoying your pics. Looks like a wonderful holiday.
Well, the floor sanding is now complete. Lots of sanding….lots of dust. DH and I worked very well together. Picked up the sander on Monday and started sanding at about 12:30 and finished at 6:00 in the evening. We took turns on the machine. Had a shop vac in the living room so one was sanding and one was vacuuming. Took the machine back this morning and we hand sanded all the areas close to the walls that we couldn’t get with the sander. Tomorrow morning I’m going to damp mop the floor and run a damp cloth over all the baseboards before applying the polyurethane. Hopefully will be able to get two coats on and then the last coat on Thursday. Have to wait 3 days until we can move the furniture back in….so probably Sunday.
This was a big project and I will be glad when it is done. I think I will like the end result with the oak boards left unstained and just with the clear coat. Next week will be wall washing time!

Walking-Great topic of the day Lanette! When I was going for physical therapy after my second hop replacement the therapist asked my goal. I told him I wanted to get back to being able to do and hour long walk. He looked at me and said "Why would anyone want to do that?" I looked at him and said "Why would you not want to?" I figure I can't do many of the things I did when younger, but walking is free and overall good exercise. My neighborhood has a walk score of 46, but I am not surprised since it is basically a 1950s suburb. While it is a 12 minute drive to work and there aren't a lot of stores nearby-there are lots of sidewalks so I can walk all I want. I have 2, 3, 4, and 5 mile walks mapped out and can change them up.
Annie-I think it's great your Dad is trying to do laundry. Maybe just gently let him know that the new detergent you have does a bit better job. Maybe tell him it's what mom always told you to use and she likes the other for dishes.
Heather-what a beautiful picture of Johnnie and daughter. And the three of you look do happy at dinner. Glad you were able to take the trip for his birthday. And I couldn't figure out the picture of the candles. No offense meant-but you don't strike me as the overly religious person but then the St. Rita explanation made so much sense and was so nice.
Allie-hugs to you. So sad to take a room apart.
Trusting doctors-I have trusted a good many doctors, but I do know my own body and when something is wrong. If one doesn't listen to me I will look for new one.
The good news is the gentleman came and my tv has been repaired and seems to be better than new. I did help him a bit with lifting and moving. With the size of the tv it was a bit awkward for him (he was fairly short-probably not even 5'. But he was polite, efficient but not rushed. Am doing his ratings and will score him highly.
Get hair cut tomorrow and may stop and get some bloodwork done after an early afternoon meeting. I have to time this particular blood test in between taking two of my thyroid doses and the lab is just a few minutes from meeting location and on my way home so I will finish work up at home tomorrow.
Take care all,

Happy Birthday Johnny
Went to ceramics. Vince got another antibiotic and isn't as achey, but now feels stuffed up. I think I'll probably finish my fish placque Monday and start on my turtle on the skateboard.

My neighborhood doesn't have a great walking score from the point of view of being able to walk to work or shops but the immediate neighborhood is more than two miles of flat streets with nearly no traffic especially in the early morning when I walk. Besides the streets there are paths and open green areas that add to the ambiance. I can walk for hours every day easily and safely and that's exactly what I do. I walk for the exercise, to be out in nature (we have tall trees everywhere and the Olympic Mountains to see in the distance), and to have the opportunity to listen to the books and podcasts that add to my life.

Temperature and Sleep
My husband and I attended a presentation by our neuropsychologist on brain injury related fatigue and sleep.
It was a really good presentation with lots of great information, but one thing she mentioned is that to improve the ability to fall asleep, it's good to work with our bodies and cool down before bed.
So, having a hot shower or bath before bed is good ... but only if it is done about 1.5 hours before bed to allow the body to cool down in preparation for bed.
That was something I hadn't heard before so I looked it up and found this:
Best Temperature for Sleep
https://www.sleepfoundation.org/bedroom-environment/best-temperature-for-sleep
How Does Temperature Affect Sleep?
Your core body temperature generally hovers around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius), but fluctuates by about 2 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the night. The drop in temperature starts about two hours before you go to sleep, coinciding with the release of the sleep hormone melatonin. During sleep, body temperature continues to fall, reaching a low point in the early morning and then gradually warming up as the morning progresses. Lowering the thermostat at night can work in tandem with these natural temperature fluctuations, signaling to the body that bedtime is approaching.
This is something I've done just naturally because I feel hot all the time. After my husband goes to bed, I'll often turn the heat down so that I'm almost chilly before I go to bed. Apparently, that's actually a good thing to do.
The article also says,
The temperature of your bedroom can make a significant difference to your sleep quality. The best room temperature for sleep is approximately 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18.3 degrees Celsius). This may vary by a few degrees from person to person, but most doctors recommend keeping the thermostat set between 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit (15.6 to 20 degrees Celsius) for the most comfortable sleep.
We keep the thermostat between about 15-16 Celsius at night.

Today’s gratitude: pink clouds at dawn. Good humor of fellow casserole cooks. How hips feel after chair yoga.
Belated welcome @danamacbellsouthnet403 and welcome back @Miss_Idelia in IA!
Whew, caught up.
No notes but some things come to mind.
Cleaning schedule? Hahahahahahaha Maybe if I had one our home would be in better shape. The Roomba gets run 3-4 days a week whenever Joe’s out in the garage or to town. That’s also when I do both our laundry. We each do our own cooking and dishes. Wastebaskets get emptied on Sunday for Monday’s trash pickup. Dusting? Mopping?? Windows??? Deep cleaning???? ROTFLMAO.
Carol (and Debbie, Tracie, Machka et al) Joe’s sleep pattern changed permanently when he worked night shift security. He wakes around midnight, breakfasts around 6, putters around (including taking dogs to powerline) from 7-10 ish, lunches, naps, putters some more then goes to bed around 4pm. I’m usually awake by 6am, finish morning routine (weigh-in, readings, Tummy Time, PT, putter) ‘til 10ish, breakfast, then line dance class (noon to two Mondays/Wednesdays) Chair Yoga (1:30-2:30 Tuesdays) laundry Thursday or Friday, Dog Group Saturday, Church Sunday, and otherwise grocery shop, play in the kitchen or in the dirt. “Linner” ?Dunch? 4-5 pm, then sleep til 10pm up to pee and Jeopardy walking if needed, check in here, then back to sleep around 2am. We don’t do much together, a little outside work on separate projects, a monthly ride to Gold Beach to have the dogs nails trimemed. This is why I choose to make the effort to sit with Joe for at least one cup of tea every morning in between wii and readings. ;} Like Barbie, I lived alone for a long time before Joe, as did he, so we’re both (too?) self-sufficient. But I share your longing to “do something” with DH, even though I don’t see it in the cards.10/17: Move: ZERO sets PT but Chair Yoga with sit to stands. Dogs to powerline. Steps:8065
Fuel: sugar in vs mfp=-11 CI<CO net=413 vits=1
Live: Joe, readings, BP, AD, AF, ptT, ptS, casserole-a-thon, Freddie’s. Wt:
Later, lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
October: Move more: chair yoga, line dance, dailyish PT, play with dogs.
Fuel better: less sugar, dailyish vitamins.
Live NOW: dailyish time with Joe, readings. Open heart and mind before mouth.
2023: Be of good cheer.

Feels good to be back home. My sisters medical tests are done and most of the results back. The scans and lab tests show no new cancer. The existing tumors are smaller. Today we'll have a zoom conference with the oncologist who will have the lab results and a plan going forward.
After the medical scans last week, we drove to Eastern Washington and visited with Jack's youngest son and family. It was a wonderful drive and the fall colors were beautiful. But mostly it was so nice to catch up with the kids and grands. This is the first time I've driven to visit since Jack died. It's a 7 hour drive but we broke it into a two day travel going and coming back. And we stayed two days to visit. The trip was a treat.
Speaking of treats, reading this community's daily posts is such a treat. Lisa you made me want to get home and bake bread. I almost could smell it when I was reading your post. I love to make extra dough and put it in the freezer...nothing makes the house smell better. Thank you for thinking of my sister and me on our travels to the cancer center and Eastern WA. Barbara it was wonderful to know you got in touch with Katla. Enjoyed the chat about the scheduled house cleaning. When I worked I had a schedule, but I've gotten too relaxed about when/what I clean.
