The grandgirls came around with cards for me - all very sweet and humorous, that they had made themselves. I felt very loved. Max also did a funny card. They were on their way to Art K, so couldn't stay. My son gave me some very superior Sauternes, and Burgundy wine. He stashed them all in the shed when he gave up alcohol, and is gradually getting rid of them! Very much appreciated.
DH'S Moussaka was heavenly. We had champagne with it.
I feel so happy that so many people love me. I used to feel that I didn't deserve that love. I think I'm getting over that.
While I was greeting the girls, DH got a phone call to be told that yet another old friend/colleague had died. His Christmas card list is getting ever shorter.
Welcome to all the new people, especially to the Scottish contingent! I live in Brighton and Hove. I love visiting Scotland. Have friends and an ex there. I lived for 40 years in London.

Regarding make-up in this part of the world ...
It seems to be that those under 20 and those over 70 wear the most make-up. It kind of eases off after 20 and builds up toward 70.
In between those ages, women tend not to wear make-up or just a touch of foundation. And maybe a hint of mascara to dress up.
I would feel very self conscious if I wore more than foundation.
And people rarely wear perfume either. Thank goodness! It sets off my allergies.

The other day I realized that my mother has been gone almost 60 years !
Got my new mahjongg card. I am still mad at myself for throwing out the old one
Going to watch a bit of TV. Hope I don’t fall asleep!
Michele NC
how young were you when she passed away- I can't imagine having my parent gone that long- (especially beings I am 61yrs old)- dad has been gone going on 3 yrs and that is hard for me to imagine.

Pip: You certainly got your value out of those monkey feet 😝

Barbara-Cats in spoiler below. The gray is Zombu-she is part siamese and has a meow to wake the dead. She likes to get underfoot and will sleep with me-most often at the head.
The tortoise is Lucy. Think Garfield-she is very independent and cool. Seldom meows and does so softly and with purpose (like if water bowl would be empty she will sit in kitchen, look up at me, meow and then look to water). She gets on the arm of the couch for petting for about five minutes per day. They tolerate each other. They are both 14 but Lucy seems older-lots of arthritis I think.
Pip-you weren't kidding about wearing out a pair of shoes! Very smart to not push it and get a blister. I wore a dress today with a pair of slip ons and the box is just a bit tight-small buster on side of toe.
Joy-refinishing floors with husband will be a testament to your relationship!
Margaret-thanks so much for sharing music.
Make up-used to wear it all the time when young, some during college. It has always bothered me and made me feel like my skin can't breathe. Have tried various foundations, etc. I have so many freckles and age spots there is no chance of having an even tone-so I don't worry about it any more. Don't have any in the house and don't miss it.
I know I missed things but I am pretty tired. I did go for walk after dinner (it was in the 80s today so I waited until it cooled a bit). Got trash to the curb. Think I am going to go read.
Take care all,

Heather and Kim- both of you look beautiful- colors are perfect on you
Happy birthday Heather
Terri- would love walking around those gardens for hours
Tracey- the cake is very rustic. Is that real barbed wire on it??0 -

Made it through the day optimistically for 80%! DH made it difficult.....I think he is "menstrating".....Managed to eat every 4 hours instead of 1.5 to 2! Yay! Ladies, I am not kidding, it has been bad. I woke up last night at midnight (a spoonful of peanut butter, 2 am 4 oz of chicken, 4 am a fistful of peanuts, breakfast at 630 was 3 eggs, two pieces of wheat toast, leftover steamed broccoli, and spinach. At noon, I had 2 cups homemade chicken n dumplings, at 4 pm a tomato sandwich on wheat bread and 1/2 an apple, dinner at 8 was 2 cups chicken n dumplings and 10holiday grapes) All healthy but if I logged it probably more than I normally eat in 3 days. Upside...I haven't wanted processed or junk food. Dinner was late as I had a massage after work and stopped at grocery after that. I needed produce and a few other items. DH agreed to black beans on his salad for lunch. Dr recommended more fiber. I keep saying he needs protien on that romaine. We will see....I like them so is good either way.
Thank you all for sharing your talents!
Thank you for continuing to inspire us is some manner!

I have a few distant relatives that I stay in touch with. One of them called me today to ask for my help. I obliged.
It wasn’t taking anything away from my day and I’m glad they thought of me to help them.
Her and I are 2nd cousins, I babysat for her when her girls were young.
Barbara - “open heart and mind before mouth”. I feel that should be hung as an inspirational quote.
Heather - Cake decorating is not anything I would want to do regularly.
I’ve never seen an owl at a wedding! Sounds like a nice day though all in all.
Lisa - I like dreaming about winning the lottery too. I imagine many people would to keep it from family for a bit. I’ve heard that financial advisors suggest that lottery winners continue as normal for a period of time to really think about what they want. Probably wouldn’t have to be as cautious with a billion.
Baked potato and ham steaks. I need to go buy one. I love them, DH not so much but I’ll buy him a beef steak.
Rita - I hope your break brings some peace.
Michele - I only decorated the cake, the brides mother was the baker. I just put the flowers and decorations on it. The bride had a vision of what she wanted.
Sugars in fruit - when we went to the dietitian for Rodger’s diabetes they told him not to worry about sugar in fruits. She said the good of them outweighs the sugar. Everything in moderation, she told him not to cut anything out completely.
Ginny - no the barbed wire was plastic purchased for the cake.
I have tidied up the first step of our drywalling project. Next weekend Rodger will mud. I’ll probably paint next week. I bought the white today, we agreed on a black 3” moulding at the top and leave the bottom the way it is currently. It will cost about $60 and I think it will look ok.
Tomorrow Kaitlyn, two of her friends and an 18 month old are coming for a craft day. These usually run late with this group.

Margaret - I watched your singing. You did a really good job. My experience of solo singing is that it is terrifying. It's lovely that your voice has stayed so high. I used to be a soprano, but now I'm a low alto.
I woke up early today. I'm going to have to get the holiday admin stuff done today as it's now getting to me. Every time I think about it, my stomach clenches. It must be done! I hope my nerves will subside when it's all done. Haven't flown for years, hate all the airport business, and haven't been away for a week with just cabin baggage! I'm always like this before I go anywhere!
Bea pick up day today. I think I'm going to let DH walk, and I will see how near I can get on the buses. I know I will have to change once.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -

I thought I was the only one that got up for a spoon full of peanut butter at midnight(or other times of the night). That really is one of the reasons my weight isn't coming off, I LOVE peanut butter!!

I am kind of thankful that I experience a great deal of gastric distress when I eat peanuts or peanut butter.
Back in my teens and early 20s, I lived on peanut butter and peanuts but gradually I started experiencing more and more gastric distress. Eventually I narrowed down the cause and have rarely touched peanuts or peanut butter since.

Hi Gals,
Thought I’d touch base – This weekend I officiated a wedding, my first, not a new side gig, but was asked to officiate my friend Dylan’s wedding. Cute young couple, all of the parents and the wedding party all great people. An evening(5-10pm) outdoor reasonably dressy wedding. I found my dress at a thrift store the neckline was a bit revealing so I made some lace on my embroidery machine to embellish it and hide some cleavage. And then made a swing jacket to go with it- out of chiffon, so very summery - However Mom Nature decided that it would be a high of 64 and a low of 54 – with some wind…. BRRRRR ! no indoor option available. After the ceremony I put leggings under the dress, added socks and comfy shoes for the strappy sandals, and a sweater between the dress and the swing jacket. But was glad for my car heater about 9 pm. I was a bit nervous – but pulled it off with very few hiccups. And got lots of complements.
I didn’t realize how much stress I was under until I crawled into bed last night and slept for 8 hours and after a couple of “up” hours was ready for bed again. I’ll go in early tonight. As tomorrow is a workday for me.
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

My family was quite close when I was growing up.
About 15 years ago, we ended up scattered all over the place. Me in the furthest reaches of Australia. My brother in Louisiana. My parents in a part of Canada I didn't grow up in at all (and we moved a lot!). I've got aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and a nephew here there and everywhere.
My mother passes on news now and then, but otherwise we've pretty much gone our own ways.
It seems to work for us.

I've done it!!!!!
I've booked the train from Narbonne to Montpellier.
I also installed the easyjet app, checked in, and got the boarding passes on there for both of us, both ways.
I have all the train tickets on the app, but I wanted belt and braces in case my phone crashed, so I've printed out all the plane boarding passes and train tickets, 8 in all. Feel much happier now.
Phew!!! I feel ultra responsible because I am doing it for DH as well. ✔️ 👍
Just a taxi to order nearer the time.

You might well wonder why I am doing it all, but he says, if he does it I only complain he hasn't done it right.
So I prefer to be the one who books. Cruises also.

I sent a happy birthday text to my oldest stepson on 9/30. He quit communicating with his dad and I about two years before Jack's death. I was pleased and surprised to get a text back thanking me for remembering his birthday. I hope he will keep in touch.

I have also just booked a covid jab for this Thursday, late afternoon. DH has one a couple of hours earlier. I went on the NHS app and it allowed me to book one. I hadn't been invited yet. Really pleased, as it allows me time to get over any after effects. I always feel wonky the next day. Nothing planned for Friday, or the weekend.
Unfortunately, our flu jab isn't until we get back from France.

CarolGaGal wrote: »Lisa ~ Is there any chance that your grandson can stay in Hawaii with his mom? Carol in GA
Carol - It's up to him, actually. His mom has legal custody, if she chooses to exercise it, but was willing to allow him to make his own choice when the Army moved them to Hawaii. He decided he wanted to live with his bio-dad, and she was strong enough to let him go. I'm not sure I would have been able to do so, if I were her. He's 12 years old.
Heather - So glad you got your trip all sorted. Johnny is a very smart man. Sounds like your birthday was lovely. Always impressed by your son's strength of mind, and I'm sure he's glad to be able to give the wine to someone he knows will enjoy it.
Barbie - I'm excited that the Baking Show is finally back, but I'll wait it out for the season, I think, and then re-up for Netflix for a month's subscription and watch it all. I've been ruined by streaming services and being able to see more than one episode whenever I wish. I get impatient now with the ones that only drop once a week.
Barbara AHMOD - Happy anniversary! Pretty sure I haven't done anything in my life for 39 years, or 36, for that matter. I look forward to congratulating you on your 50th together.

Good morning from pre-dawn Arkansas!
The crickets are just beginning to quiet down for the day, and the traffic beginning to pick up as folks start heading for work in the larger towns near us. The highway is a good few blocks away, and completely out of sight when all the trees are leafed out still, but it's a comforting sort of susurrus of sound for my usual background noises.
Speaking of those, got all the laundry done yesterday, and got all my meds organized and requested, so I'll have time to be able to sort out a couple things I want to work on in the craft room today. I want to get my easel set up and my paints out to work on a fall painting tutorial I've seen online, and while one layer is drying on that, I want to move over and work on the quilt pieces that are dry runs for the big quilt. I was working with paper piecing, but I think I'm going to try interfacing instead. Paper is just a pain to work with. I'm building these first pieces as pillow covers for the couches in the living rooms.
I need to also sew a cushion together for the cedar chest and a couple hotpads as well. As far as the cushion goes, I've got the measurements, it won't take much, just some long, straight seams, so I need to get it done, too. Will give Egg something to shed on when she's watching the birds outside this winter...
Regarding the hotpads, Corey uses the jeans pocket ones I made some years back constantly, and he really likes them, but there are only two and they're in the wash at the moment. I need to make some more, and I have all the fixin's, I just need to run them up. Takes ten or 20 minutes each, so it's an easy fix. Something quite easy to make while the design issues are running through my head for the other pieces.
Time to get on with my day, although Egg would genuinely prefer that I sit right where I am. She's found that place where she can curl up while I type to y'all, bless her, and is purring away.
Hope it's a lovely day...
Love y'all!

Tell us a little about yourself, and sign off with what you'd like to be called and some kind of general area where you live in your signature so we can get to know you a bit. I am very visually motivated and find joy and inspiration is simple things. This is a picture of a flower on an artichoke plant. I never knew artichokes had such a beautiful flower.
My mantra today is…Slow down your eating and see the beauty in your food.
