Just read this article about 5 one minute moves to make daily. Maybe if I link with things I do every day, like this?
Sit to Stand 1 minute when getting up from TV to p
Counter Plank before doing dishes
Heel Toe lifts when returning to TV after p (if shin tolerates)
Seated running marches before getting up from TV to other than p
One legged balance when returning to TV after other than p

My friend G has been searching Dr Google, and now thinks it may be Bullous Pemphigoid. On my quick reading, it looks a definite possibility. She had an autoimmune flareup of her knee joint early this year.
This getting old stuff is not for wimps.

Lots of Vit D today ... out in the sunshine.
Fresh bedding ... new bottom sheets and freshly washed top sheets and pillowcases which spent the afternoon wafting in the sunshine.
Finished reading a book to reach 24 books in 2023.
Added up the kilometres this month. I had hoped to do a lot more but then COVID waltzed into our lives.

Cycling

Good morning ladies!
Well the adventure continues. I thought I had the reception mostly planned out, but the restaurant called to say they were going out of business. He said he would tear up my deposit check and send me a picture of it, but he didn't. So I guess I have to stop payment on the check. It's actually my father's check.
The lady who is doing the flowers suggested another place, so I'm going there this afternoon. Seems more expensive.
My sister wrote an obituary and shared it on Google docs. I have to figure out how to access
it.
My dad was crying last night. I don't have a lot of patience for that. He had 67 good years of marriage, I only had 20. She died at 91, which is a good long life, and she was healthy until the last three months. We will miss her, but her death wasn't a tragedy. In fact it could have been a lot worse in terms of pain and anxiety and nursing. But I keep my mouth shut and come here to vent.
He deserves his time to grieve but it makes me feel guilty that I don't have the patience for consoling him. There's not much anyone could do, I guess.
My cousin is helping me work on his finances. They are a mess. She is wonderful, very organized and she doesn't get overwhelmed by emotion like I do. We are still hoping to find some life insurance to pay for the cremation.
So ever onward. I'm hoping to be able to dye my roots over this holiday. Maybe Monday.
Thank you all again for being in my pocket through all of this. You give me the strength to keep tackling the challenges every day.
Have a great day!

Just popping in - getting a few chores done and want to make an early trip to the grocery to grab a few things, so more later and will catch up with you gals.
A little more on Vitamin D :
Here are a couple studies about higher levels of Vitamin D. Supplementation doesn't necessarily equal adequate blood levels: 2,000 IU might be too little for one person while it may shoot another person into a higher range. There are many factors that influence this including age, and other medical condititions. That's why I pay the $$ to get mine tested every year or two and my medical providers have the time to assess everything in my lab reports to see if something is off-balance. (Thankfully, Dr. Lisa gets a discounted price on the D3 test.)
Vitamin D - research shows suggested levels from 40 to 60 ng/mL are expected to reduce case-fatality rates of patients who have breast, colorectal, or prostate cancer by half. : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19523595/

I love patterns in numbers!
Woke up early and am enjoying the serenity of the tree lights for the last time until next year. 😌 DH still snoozing.
Last night we watched storage wars, my cousin Vinnie (I love her), and Animal House (my first time). I worked on cross-stitch and got up every half hour to move. Was relaxing. Finished up my tracking hours for the year. I have been tracking my SIL'S and my working hours since 2014. I got tired of hearing that I wasn't working enough, so started tracking. Only in 2022 did I start tracking working hours that SIL wasn't there. She likes to go in at 6 am, we are open 9-530 Monday-Friday and 9-2 on Saturday. So yes, we get Sundays off. It seems petty but gives me peace. It is interesting to look back and compare hours with sales. I also have to track units sold for ordering. Crazy busy years I have had as many as 362 extra hours outside of work and on low sale years the lowest was actually a true 66 hours missed 🙃. Oh, that is the year we went to the Dominican! No work done on that vacation. Like I said I love number patterns. The awareness of extra hours does help me be more focused during work hours most days.
Rori You are a great example of grabbing life by the horns and taking control! I want to be like you when I grow up. I love hearing about your adventures and travels.
Rosemarie I too love that you are making changes for yourself and honoring your DH at the same time.
Rori Congratulations on alcohol free! That is a wonderful milestone!
Lisa I am excited to see the finished product. I am like your DH. It is easier in my mind to do it by myself. I have to make an effort to do things with my DH like projects or even shopping. I do enjoy spending time with him, but we think so differently that sometimes it is hard!
Debbie I am happy to hear you had some "good" time with your DH. I hope you nip this illness in the bud.
Ginny I have a friend whose daughter didn't come over for Christmas because she was suppose to go on a cruise for the new year. The daughter and her husband both have RSV. I reckon a blessing in disguise that they didn't get together. There is certainly a lot going around. I know our weather isn't helping. It is hard to decide how to dress for the day!
Machka HAPPY NEW YEAR! You are our first to enter into it.
Allie Siri is beautiful. My DH said I could get a cat. I do know that some don't aggrevate allergies. One of these days......
Tracey Love how creative you are! Such a wonderful tribute to your grandmother and mom.
As we head into the New Year's, My hope for you all is peace, health, and activity. I am appreciative for the things you all bring into my life. Thank you for sharing and being you!
Much love,

Fireworks are getting set to go off. We're watching the coverage in Sydney, but will likely hear the distant "boom" of the fireworks here.
There it goes! Fireworks off the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Welcome to 2024!

Annie I get it. Just being there with your dad is helping. It has to be hard on him especially since they had been together so long. This doesn't diminish your own losses in any way. It is just coming from a different place. You are right in the fact that your mom lived a great life and didn't spend years incapacitated by illness. This helps you, but dad isn't there yet. Just keep breathing and venting to us. I am glad that you are getting help from family. Hugs!
Machka Your stats are still amazing!
I should walk some before DH gets up. Then the plans today include cleaning the bedrooms, taking down the trees, and going to a friend's house at 530. Really not planning on being there until midnight. Will most likely come home, have a drink or two, and watch movies until the new year.
Oh, I had been giving DH probiotics most of the year. He asked if they were doing anything, so I stopped them last month. He just asked me to put them back in his containers as he noticed a difference in his digestion.
Speaking of DH he is stirring.
Health, happiness, and laughter!

Machka- Not covid. I tested twice for it and both times it came back negative. I think the headache and nausea came about from being off schedule (sleep and food) for five days. Headache stayed for a day, nausea for two. I have been back to my daily yogurt/veggies and feeling better.
Barbara- My foot pain is plantar fasciaitis. Comes and goes, but this has been hanging in there since Thanksgiving. The weekend post Thanksgiving I went hiking with my son and I think my hiking boots did this to me.
Ginny- dry needles. Hmmm....I will have to look into that.
Rori- Your holiday work for the Nuggets sounds interesting! Your Cali trip sounds wonderful! Safe travels! Can't wait to hear the updates!
Welcome new ladies! Remember to watch this thread for the link to January 2024. Barbie will probably posting it at some point today/this evening! Click on the link and then bookmark the January page.

Happy New Year, Machka! Always nice to have our resident (and possibly a new) Tasmanian lead the way to the new year. Your stats, as always, quite amazing.
Heather - Sounds like a lovely way to spend New Year's Eve.
Rori - Always good to see you pop up. Hope the January trip is loads of fun and warmth and laughter and good friends... If you decide to go to the center of the country instead of just the coasties, don't forget to stop in!
Barbara AHMOD - I do get up to my limit on the things that are going to kill me (microplastics being the latest addition). While I try to avoid the big stuff (don't smoke anymore, for instance) I had to finally decide that I couldn't add any more to the list of what I'm avoiding. I get it, and I absolutely understand when others do, but I'm going to die of SOMEthing. I'm just proud to have made it to this stage, where dying of "old age," isn't out of the question! I was reminded in reading through my journal, which I do at the end of each year to write the "looking back, looking forward" piece between the years. My gastroenterologist wrote "elderly caucasian woman," to describe me in my chart, the first time I've seen that. Kinda hurt my feelings at first, but it appears I've made it to that stage of my life. My acupuncturist tells me I'm tiny and my skin is beautiful, which helps my feelings a lot!
Annie - If you leaned on your dad before this for his strength, it may have a lot to do with how you're feeling now. Just when you need him most, you have to be that strength, and the support you've always had is just gone. Guessing, because I certainly don't know your old relationship with your dad, only seen the current one. But, as my mother, who was impatient with emotional displays, said of an old friend grieving her husband's death, "I guess you'd miss a rock in your shoe if you had it in there for 30 years." I loved my mother dearly, but find myself as impatient with that kind of display as she was, I'm afraid. So you're not alone. Still thinking about you.
Sue - Plumbing problems always seem to come up at the holidays for some reason... Hope you're able to get it fixed for your renter soon, as well as your own sake!
Kylia - I still love tracking numbers... but have found that every number I can let go of has removed one level of stress from my life.
Beth - So pleased your mom is doing better, even if mistaken in that instance.
Vitamin D - My doc actually added that to the list at my request, due to y'all, and like I thought, it was normal (their range is 10-60 ng/ml, and mine was 40). Sunshine is very much an option here, anytime I want it, and I do try to get out and get as much as I can, even in the winter. The multi-vitamin I take daily contains 25 mcg, but I don't add any more than that. Someone asked, I think, what helps you absorb calcium, and it's Vitamin D.
Woke up feeling soooo much better than yesterday. The three good days, one bad kind of wear on me, but it's much, much better than four bad ones, so for now, I'll take it!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

But since I am now alcohol free, I bought some AF champagne so I can continue the tradition! This goes with the Make Up Your Mind Day too! I DO NOT believe that today is unlucky day! Too negative for me. It will be a GOOD day! Happy New year Everyone!

Master bedroom dusted! It is the dustiest room in the house. It is the one I should dust most often due to DH's dust mite allergy. Oops. Feels much better now! We have an old watered frame with regular mattress, but has the really large full cabinet with drawers headboard. We have owned for almost 30 years. While dusting the cupboard under the mirror I found a hidden compartment! I rarely get in there since the cpap cleaner sits there, so it was really dusty. What a surprise though.
Time to move to tree.

Did Kettleworx Core DVD today. Did a load of laundry while I was exercising. By the time I finished, it was time to put it in the dryer I thought of one upside to BK opening later tomorrow – I’ll get to exercise for at least 45 minutes. I’m planning to do the Dressed Up Drills DVD since they have all different lengths of time workouts – 30 min, 45 min, 1 hr and I think there is a longer one.
After exercise walked in the neighborhood. Vince said last night that it’ll be so cold that I won’t want to go. So I dressed up, even took gloves with me. Didn’t need them. It really wasn’t all that bad. After the walk went to WalMart, bought gas, then went to where I’m going to get the root canal done to be sure I know where it is. I really don’t feel like getting lost at 6:45 in the morning.
Barbara – ROTF with your genetic mutation
Rosemarie – good for you not sitting thru the football game. Sorry I missed this earlier, but that’s fantastic. The only reason I might sit thru them is to get a good look at those guys in their tight pants running around….lol
Barbara - I have a suspicion that the store manager of BK is trying to cut expenses and so isn’t ordering enough product. To me, they should AT LEAST order one extra box of everything. Remember I was telling you about some “labor” thing that if I live to be 100 I’ll never understand. They want their profit to justify the salaries from minute to minute. To me, there are some things that should be done first thing in the morning, like having the bathrooms cleaned for customers. I believe they should have the prep first thing in the morning for the day. I can’t see saying “sorry, we don’t have any onions because labor is down and the person who does it isn’t working right now”. As a customer, I would think “I really don’t care about your labor, I’ll go to McD where I can at least get a d*** onion.” I feel the important thing should be if you’re making a profit at the end of the day, not hour by hour.
Ginny – I have a feeling that Lynette canceled coming for dinner not so much because she’s sick but she does dramatize a lot and I think she might be dramatizing her radiation. But that’s just her. I really don’t think she’s that sick but that’s a good excuse. Oh well, maybe after she has one treatment, she’ll see that it’s really not that bad, not like chemo. She’s probably sick thinking about it.
Just got notice that the Newcomer dues is going up $5. Well, everything else is going up. They extended the deadline for the “winter dinner” or whatever it’s called. To me, that says that not a lot of people signed up. Also, they are no longer offering a discount for early dues payment. See, in the past, we had to track people down to see if they were renewing Wonder if they’re going to go back to this or just delete members who haven’t paid?
Annie – my heart breaks for your dad. Yet, I can understand your feeling about his long marriage. So glad to hear that your cousin is such a great help
Kylia – Animal House is so funny. Vince loves it, reminds him of his fraternity.
M and everyone else down under – happy new year
Gotta order my new mahjong card tomorrow. It won’t come until the end of March, beginning of April, but I want to be in the first batch that are sent out.
Brought all the ornament totes inside since Ken and Lynette aren’t coming. I’m HOPING to get at least the boxes with a Christmas platters, etc. packed up. I’m also going to see if I can get rid of things and maybe go down to only one box rather than two
Lisa – glad you’re feeling better and hope it lasts a long time
Rita – where do you find the AF champagne? I think that would be nice for Ken. Since he’s on so many pain meds (heavy duty ones too) he can’t have any alcohol. So this would be nice for us since he can have some, too
kylia – we have a Soma bed (water cylinders). I have my side of the bed harder than Vince does. One of the things I like is that it has drawers under it. I would like to change the bed some day, get a new one, but it MUST have drawers

Machka: Happy New Year! Congrats on the book reading!
Annie: My husband was 78. There was an age difference between us. I knew for years to expect his passing. And I still tear up and sob. I think no matter our spouse's age or how long we've been married, if it is a good marriage we want more time. We don't want to say good bye. Wow: I can't believe the restaurant went out of business. That is a nuisance.
Lanette: Thanks for the info on Vitamin D
Sue: What a hassle about the rental cabin!
Rori: My hair dresser is listening to the Streisand autobiography. He is enjoying it! Have a great time on your California trip!
Barbara: I love your exercis ideas!
Debbie: I hope your feel okay. Your doing great to stay up until midnight. One year I stayed up to keep my son company.
He was in his lower 20s. I thought he needed something different than Anderson Cooper's show. So, On you Tube I found Snoop Dogg's New Years show. So I thought I was being really hip. Well during the show, Snoop Dogg and Anderson Cooper decided to do a segment together and next thing I know Anderson Cooper and Snoop Dogg are talking together. My son and I laughed and laughed. So much for being hip!
Kylia: Wow a hidden compartment in the furniture! How cool is that!
Heather: I am jealous you have family around you, but I am also jealous you have reliable Uber. We have a growing, revitalized down town, but one still can't be sure one can get an Uber or Lyft home.
Lisa: Will the room really be done today? What a great way to start the New Year!
Well I have been texting with a friend and got to church. I have a family zoom with my husband's family this afternoon. I am tired because I drank diet Coke yesterday evening and then didn't fall asleep until after midnight. I just can't believe ow strict one has to be as one gets older. Hopefully, I will nap and then exercise, knit and declutter two boxes of paper! Not very exciting but I am content! I wonder what 2024 will bring! I am curious!
One year we went to Asheville for New Years. That was fun. I enjoyed touring the city and like Asheville!
Happy New Year!

Debbie: Does your DH have anyone besides you. After all you are only one person. The situation with DH, you and his mother seems very isolating. We did hire someone and also used an agency for my husband. Without this we would not have had anyone but me to take care of him. And even then I didn't get enough emotional support. It would be great if the right personal care assistant came along and shopped for your MIL and touched up the house and sat with her one morning or afternoon a week. It might be a start. Would it help if DH told his Mom that the doctor says he can't keep caring for her 7 days a week. Then it would be a medical decision, not his decision.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia
Dh does have very few friends- he has alienated most over stupid little things(he forgives no one of anything). He does still have a couple friends who live an hour away. They have come to visit him a couple times and he turned the offer down the last time they wanted to come down.
I have told him many times we need to hire help- we tired one time, it failed so he is sure it will fail again if he tries.
His mom will just say he is lying if he says the doctor told him he can't keep doing this.
She calls dh a greedy ******* when he says he has to go to work. In her eyes, those hours he works are hours he should be there with her(she doesn't NEED him there). Yes, she is very lonely but no one wants to be around her.3 -
I have been choosing a one word theme each year for awhile. Here are the ones from the past.
2014 mindful
2015 now
2016 alacrity
2017 balance
2018 tenacity
2019 pause
2020 flexible
2021 lighten up
2022 continue
2023 please
My word for 2024 will be "enough". It fits in with my attitude about gratitude and about all the changes I've made in my life in these last few years.

Thank you Barbie ! I was trying to figure out my word for 2024. Perseverance! Sounds better than selfish. I just want to put me first more often. At times that is a struggle, so I will persevere in my goals.
2023 word was progression. I think I have progressed in a lot of my thinking and feelings. Progress towards a healthier me, more positive self talk, pausing before speaking/typing to see if I can put in a more positive way. Progress. did I hit my goals... nope....did I make progress on them....yes... one small bite at a time.
I am grateful and appreciative for each of you! ❤️
Debbie May we strengthen your ability to enjoy things around you and support you when you need a hand up.
More later,
Kylia4 -
Good morning again ladies
I must say - it's a breeze walking by the bakery department and not grabbing a donut or muffin when I just ate 25 grams of protein.
Kylia - glad the probiotics helped your DH. Good job on the cleaning, you are a dynamo. Animal House and My Cousin Vinnie are two of my favorites! I'll put them on my "watch" list.
Debbie - as many of us have mentioned, we are so glad you have your son, your mom, your walks, your zumba and other activities that keep you centered. You are doing a remarkable job not letting DH and MIL's situation get you down and we are so happy to be here for you to vent. I totally understand your reluctance to leave him with all that's going on and his fragile mental state. Whether he says it or acts it or not, I know he loves and appreciates you and your strength. You keep taking care of you, kid.
Rita - you are doing a wonderful job, so nice that you post your daily progress. Inspirational for sure. Good for you on the 5 months sober. Very nice heater and a good price too.
Barbara -those 1 minute exercise snacks are a great idea, thank you for posting that link. Me rambling on....I've incorporated a few similar ones I do in the morning waiting for the coffee to perk. Calf stretches, toe raises, hip raises, "sink" pushups or planks. From the SWSY warmups. I've discovered if I incorporate these while killing time waiting for something else, it's easier for me to remember. And I recently added 1 minute of stepping on the step platform I got to do the Better Balance workout (and never did it. ). One minute. 20 steps. It's a start, easy to go slow or fast depending on what my knees say. It will be easy to move up a few steps at a time. Even just this has to be helpful.
In that vein, decluttering a drawer, bookshelf, closet shelf while I'm waiting for the clothes washer cycle to complete (20 minutes?) seems to work too. Better for me than sitting and looking at the laptop. Of course, there's nothing to prevent me from tapping my toes and doing a few heel lifts while sitting.
Rosemarie - you mentioned you are or have access to a couple of gyms. About resistance machines for gals.Do either of these places have a "ladies' circuit room"? My gym has a room for gals only that has a type of hydraulic arm and leg machines with pistons that give extreme resistance pulling or pushing each one. They used to play a tape where a person could do the push/pull for maybe 2 minutes, then do some walk in place for 2 minutes and move on to the next machine. In a circuit. No sets/reps, just resistance. I think they are modeled after the "Curves" fitness centers.
Lisa - the lab my doc uses for the D Vit D test shows "normal" is from 30-100 ng/mL. Sounds like you have a good level, plus the benefit of sunshine in the summer. And I also wanted to comment on that waist/hip ratio. Both of my grandmothers probably had .95 or higher (waist just a teeny bit smaller than hips) and were healthy into their mid-90's. Glad someone stepped up to help you load that flooring. If I'm at Home Depot early enough I can generally enlist an employee to help load the heavy stuff in the cart inside the store and then load it into my car. But it's hit and miss.
Sue in WA - so sorry to hear about that septic problem. Dang!! Glad you can get the septic pumper out on the 2nd and there's an alternate bathroom the renter can use. Do your house and the rental house share the same septic tank?
Annie - a shame about that restaurant closing just when you got everything planned, but sounds like you might have a good alternative. My dad was so forlorn when my mom passed. I'm glad you are in the house with him to keep him company and be a shoulder for his grief right now. Glad you have your cousin and support to keep things moving. I'm still crossing fingers you'll run across the will and a life insurance policy.
Rori - that sounds like the perfect Christmas Day to me. Isn't it something all of the adventures and cool people in your life thanks to your job? Let me know if you are heading north on I-5 to Washington.
OK, I've been at this three hours, lol. Time to give you guys a break.

Actually, Michele, radiation was just as hard on me, if not harder, than chemo was. It makes you extremely tired. I can't even really describe the depth of the fatigue radiation brings on. Maybe you could take something to them to ease their burden?
Happy new year to everyone!

More later,

THANK YOU~~~~
Realized while I was in the shower last night that it was the 3 yr anniversary of dad passing. I wish I had remembered earlier, I would have called mom. I know she is still struggling-after being married 65yrs and being with him more than her whole adult life(married at 14).
Today is 3 yrs since I got covid(from dad, unknowingly on Christmas) and I was stuck at mom's for three weeks, too weak to do much that go from the bed to the bathroom the first two weeks, then add in going to the couch. I will call her this evening. I talked to her on Friday. She actually called me-she rarely does. Dad was the one who called me all the time, to thank me again for the electric blanket/throw I got her for Christmas- she was enjoying it
And, sick again- just a cold but goes right into asthma flare up. Started the nebulizer treatment last night. Had one first thing this morning along with cough med. and so far 4 cups of hot tea.
Going to take my time prepping for dinner-
Got fresh Dungeonous(sp?) crab at Safeway- picked up 3 so will take a while to crack them. Will make some cocktail sauce or just have it on a salad
Making a huge pot of won ton soup- seafood mix, Chinese bbq pork, tofu, kamaboko, lotus root, imitation crab, mushrooms, Napa cabbage, pre made won ton.(mine are better but not feeling like making them today
I am sure I will be up late but just because of the neighbors. Awake but either in bed (so I can watch the fireworks over the trees in the back yard, hoping they don't start a fire or in the recliner, watching through the sliding glass door.
Son and dh are both working tomorrow so they will be asleep early(or at least they should be).
Time for another breathing treatment then to start on the crab.
