Vigorous activity best option for heart health
"The most beneficial change we observed was replacing sitting with moderate to vigorous activity – which could be a run, a brisk walk, or stair climbing – basically any activity that raises your heart rate and makes you breathe faster, even for a minute or two.”
https://bicyclenetwork.com.au/newsroom/2023/11/23/vigorous-activity-best-option-for-heart-health
So my climbing stairs at work and going for a brisk walk at lunch is good! Not that I can do those things right at the moment, but hopefully I can get back into it when I return to work.
I am hoping to get on my bicycle next week!!

Good Thursday!
Last load of laundry in washer. These last loads had lots of air dries, so just combining the rest in dryer. Machka I remember that struggle of hanging laundry when in the Philippines. After 3 years we were able to get a dryer. I do miss the smell of sheets outdoors, but not interested in giving up dryer .
Gina Nice looking family.
Michele I would love to be able to sneak things away, but DH has this uncanny ability to want just that item the next day! It is even hard for me to get rid of my clothes without him making some comment about needing them. He is usually okay with me giving them away as long as not to Goodwill. We have another local charity that takes them though.
Kristen and Kathryn Welcome! Stop by often as we are a chatty bunch. I believe you can find plenty of support and friendship here. We don't discuss politics or religion. You have taken the first step by saying hi!
Tracey Wow! You caught up fast. This is why you are a great student! I think you did plenty with shopping/returning. That wears me out quickly. Sounds like you found great bargains though.
Hi ho! Hi ho! Off to work I go. Not yet but soon.
Hugs to any that want!
Healing thoughts for those needing them.
Much love,

Good morning ladies!
After being wishy washy on the funeral reception, my cousin jumped in, and I think it will all work out. She throws lots of big parties, and says this restaurant is best for me. I'm going there for lunch today, and with any luck, will put a deposit down.
My guest list crawled up to forty people yesterday, so I freaked at the thought of that
crowd in my home and swung back to the restaurant option.
So I am also seeing the flower lady today. This lady does a lot of flowers for the church so she knows the space.
I'm trying not to mention online the exact time of the funeral out of security anxiety. But you will probably be able to tell as I describe preparations.
My other cousin came over yesterday and helped me file some papers for a few hours. It helped to tackle some of the detritus that builds up on every flat surface around here. Plus we didn't find any unpaid bills! Yay!
My dad has started going outside to get the paper in his underwear. I'm not sure what I can do to stop him, because he won't remember an agreement. Maybe a note on the front door? Seems ridiculous but there we are.
Have a great day my friends! Carpe diem!

Morning ladies
Rainy yucky morning,here in Ct1 -
Yesterday was quite the day...DS helped me move a bed from the basement to our den and went to son's house to get a TV and its stand because our TV in Den broke two days ago. Son had two TV's. Now I have an old TV and stand to dispose of next week. Getting this set up for DH to give him a choice if it too difficult to use the stairs to go to bed on second floor of our home!
Writing this next piece in a way more for me just to keep straight my part in DH medical treatment...
Then a nurse called to set up DH shock treatment for his heart. I must have told her three times. The first thing we need to do is see his Oncologist who will tell us if it is time to discontinue cancer meds if it is then rather than a shock treatment his afib might be able to be treated with medication. She went on and on about what must be done if he is to get this shock treatment. I finally said our son was going to go into the hospital for the 17th time when he died so I understand the medical protocol...that paused her for a moment...I also said this procedure needed to be done three weeks ago...Dh is quite ill...Again said First things first...on she went again...Finally said we will go to Oncologist call you if time after visit or leave message or we will call you on Tuesday to followup. I will make sure he has and takes his blood thinner drugs. If applicable we will make a prep-op appointment with his primary doctor today too! Then I wished her Happy New Year and hung up! Another nurse who needs a refresher course in your patient is more important than your check list!
Starting Jan 1st they changed the system on how we have to order DH drugs!
Today I am taking him to an appointment for his cataract operation. I tried to convince him to reschedule until after he is hopefully better after he gets his afib under control. No luck...So Annie and M I thought of you and others with all you have had to do with the medical system. I did say a few choice words with DH today about what I think of our medical system in this country. I will be bringing my power of attorney paperwork to both appointments so I have more say in how we go on.
Morning cataract appointment.
Afternoon Oncologist...11 -
We heard today from John's daughter in France, who we went to see in October. She had his younger daughter, their mother, (John's ex) , and her ex over for Christmas. All staying! The mother had bad toothache! On their way home the motorway to the airport was blocked by an accident, so they caught a train from the nearest station, but the train was delayed. They missed their flight! Oops. Had to stay the night at an airport hotel and buy new plane tickets. What startled me was that the ex husband and their mother had no travel insurance at all. The mother is 80 next year.
Did my exercises and my book this morning.
Now it's raining, but John has gone out for his usual walk. We have the tail end of a storm which knocked out Scotland.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Interested in your opinions: Oral surgeon has taken me off Alendronate/Fosamax as it could interfere with jawbone healing from extraction in March. PCP wants me to start taking estradiol and progesterone as an alternative support for my bones. When I read the Progesterone paperwork, I said to myself, NOPE! Seems it can increase chance of blood clots, stroke, breast cancer and heart attack. Yup I already have spongy bones, but… Since I’ve already had a DVT, my bio mom perished from a stroke, she and half sister both had multiple bouts of breast cancer and bio dad perished of a heart attack, that’s just too many possibilities for me to be comfortable with. Left a voicemail, will be interested to hear what the PCP says. Might be time for a new doctor.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Our parents thought doctors knew everything. We know better. Luckily, we have at our disposal the information so we can fight for what we need and keep our own risk factors within reason. I'm with Kay and Margaret on this one. We have to do our own research, and we HAVE to fight for what's necessary, both for us and those we love. Beth and Annie, and everyone who fights or fought for your loved ones care, too, so much respect.
Kylia - More and more problems are being recognized with the "gentle parenting," technique that assumes the child's feelings are always the most important. It's kind of like the super-cleanliness movement that turned out actually to be of detriment to children's immune systems. A little dirt don't hurt, apparently, and neither does being told "no."
Machka - I worked for three organizations at one time or another that shut down over the winter break, and I looked forward to that every year. U.S. company vacation options always start skimpy and get better as you stay with them, so I was usually on the losing end of that equation. The Christmas break would be my longest time off of the entire year.
Sue - I just about fell down laughing when I read that your oven was possessed. I've got an overhead light much like that in my craft room... Sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it's on, but very dimly, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it goes off without warning, and sometimes it just flickers enough to make you believe you're having a seizure. I really need to ask Corey to replace it. I've got a fixture somewhere.
Vicki - So glad to hear your SIL is going home. I know it's been a scary time for her family.
Allie -Report your neighbor to the condo board! Every single time he does that mess. Maybe it will stop him. You can't be the only one he's annoying.
Annie darlin' - It's good to see you posting, and so glad the cousins are stepping up! You need to have someone at your back, it's a lot.
Tracey - That was plenty enough, and my stars, you're tired because you've just successfully hosted a singular, massive event for the whole family!
Margaret - I LOVE that expectation vs. reality image. Totally legit.
Michele - Actually, there are two cream soups I will eat - a really good cheese soup and clam chowder. Never actually eaten lobster bisque, but I might like it. It's the broth-type soups are completely out of the question. Sounds like Vince and I might have something in common!
Welcome to those who are new! Keep an eye on the thread, speak up in any conversation where you feel comfortable, and our fearless leader will post the new thread for the new month on the 31st. We look forward to seeing you both here and there!
More later, my chickens,
Love,

Barbara I am confused....I thought Fosamax was for bone building? I am on estradiol and have been for 10 years. No problems with it, but also have no history of clots etc. Definitely need more information.
Margaret Yay for you in standing up for your DH's health decisions. My DH totally trusts the doctors. It can be really unnerving for me. I do go into all his appointments mainly because what DH hears when doctor is talking is....wawawawa. I am also the one that questions.
Lisa I can't take nsaids either. I am in pain from the minute they hit my stomach all the way through intestines. And no, it is amazing how little they actually read in charts. I miss my old school doctor. He was a true believer in natural remedies, prevention, and follow ups. Actually, I have had two doctors like that. I currently have one that I am not a fan of.....probably should look for new. Will put it on my list.
I got two totes of misc stuffs sorted and dealt with before work this morning. Finished laundry and put away what isn't laying in pool table drying. Vacuumed base boards, dining room chairs, and bathroom (lots of hair). Productive morning so far....let's see if I can transfer that to work work-haha!
Hugs!

DH had to reschedule his cataract appointment because they wanted a two to three hour consult. It made it too tight to go to his afternoon appointment which is the one his afib treatment is dependant. It was rescheduled for March 1. It will take at least 45 minutes to get there for the appointment.

What I am upset about the shot for weight loss. I take trulicity as I am diabetic and it also helps protect my heart. I got a letter from my insurance company and starting March 1 I have to have it prescreened or pay full price. Since I have been taking the shot once a month my AC1 is 5.4. I have not noticed about the weight loss part and my doctor says I might not as it works for the other stuff.
Lisa--Love your sunroom.
Lanette--I agree we all have very nice looking spouse, grand children and fur babies.
Heather--That look a lot like the rash I had a couple years ago for 10 months. Lot of tests and finally gave me steriods for 30 days. Got it to clear up and had no problems since, I worry about it coming back.
I usually put my tree and things up around the first of December and then take them down New Year's day. I also enjoy just sitting and watching the lights.
It's 4 day work week and same next week. This one is nice as all upper management if off this week. A lot less stress.

Barbara - here's Dr. Matt's video about 30 gm protein for breakfast - note: protein intake is inversely related to belly fat accumulation. I had never watched this whole video before today - I picked up the 30 grams of protein from some of his other videos and the "prescription" he gave me. He explains the idea behind it in detail. All good reminders. I let my protein dwindle to 20 grams at breakfast and get hungry a couple hours later so need to add another egg. And continue some walking before breakfast.
and the one about lowering insulin started me walking after meals and carrying weights "Insulin's Key Role in Fat Loss":
Barbara - also, you have several challenges with keeping your bones strong but dealing with stopping the medications and possibly taking hormones. I know I've read that Vit D3, K2 and magnesium coupled with an absorbable form of calcium like calcium citrate helps bones. But can't recall where. This might be something to talk with your PCP about instead of going the hormone route if you aren't doing this already.
Margaret - you always give good insight into building health and I enjoy reading your comments. As Lisa and others mentioned, we have to advocate for our own health and that of our loved ones. Docs and nurses have their "check lists". Your husband is lucky to have you question these folks and do the right thing.
Your comment about doctors paying attention to waist size = liver health made me think. The "general rule" waist measurement for women is 35" from what I've read, but how does that play in with the higher recommended BMI for those of us over 65/70? If I have time today I'll dig around and see if I can find out anything. 35" is probably OK for 40 or 50 year olds but seems kind of slight for older gals.
And about new doctors.... there's a nice private medical clinic just down the road, several of my neighbors go to the docs there. Mrs. Roger was told when she went in last week that the clinic had been sold to a regional healthcare system effective January 1st and sent her off to another doc at one of their satellite offices since her usual one was super busy and is being transferred to medical records?? I was curious and checked out the buyer's webpage. Looks like they don't take a few of the Medicare Advantage plans the old clinic took, so some people will be looking for new doctors and may have to travel a bit and break in a new provider.
Lisa - somehow I missed the latest photo of the sun room so went back and found it. WOW! Corey has dynamite building skills. That interior is gorgeous.
Budget & Taxes - 2023 will be the first year of filing single. I was able to include my husband in the 2022 married filing jointly category so got some benefits. Of course, he had no income in 2023 so that's down. TaxAct had a projection I followed so I'm hoping to get it close. I was probably overly generous in withholding, but I'm one of those people who doesn't mind letting the government keep it and getting a refund instead of cutting it close. That's my back-up savings. If I was more investment savvy, I'd be more adventuresome I guess. And yesterday one of the pull cords on my huge, heavy insulated window shade at the picture window broke. It's too heavy for me to manage the replacement by myself and I have several others that are on the verge of breaking down. Another budget category. Not vital though since I don't open that big one very much.
I got 8 hours of great sleep. Did a huge load of laundry = bedding this morning and have a beef roast in the crockpot smothered with a pint of spaghetti sauce I found buried the big freezer. I've decided January will be "eat from the pantry & freezer" month. I loaded up as a hedge against inflation, but most food only has a year to two year shelf & freezer life, if that.
Better close for now. Make it a fabulous day!

Funny about the coal for Christmas.. I went to Walmart yesterday and was walking through the Christmas clearance and saw a bag of the candy ‘coal’! Debbie the family drama is why I live so far from family. It got to me making me have panic attacks along with depression so bad that I kept losing jobs. Moving to TN then to the RV were the best things I did for my health. I’m so sorry you have to go through all that with your family. Maybe you need to take a vacation away for a couple of weeks, just you to relax. Tell me again WHY your DH has to go there twice a day? It seems to just make things worse for everyone. Can he not just go once a day and taper that off as well? I know culture plays a big part in this, and can be very hard to deal with.
RVRita
It started over a year and half ago- mil fell twice in two days-(disoriented because of UTI which they diagnosed after the second fall) first one broke bones in her hand and wrist, the next day 3 ribs.
Then she needed dh there 24/7. I helped when he had to work, working one or two night shifts a week.
As she got better he has cut back to going over twice a day- making sure she takes her pills and taking food over to her.
Now, she doesn't NEED the twice a day but she pretty much demands it. IF he misses one, she takes it out on him for the next week.
Why he sits there for an hour or so each time, so she can just chew on him , I have no idea- I keep telling him to just do the basic and leave but he wont.
She says that isn't enough- that she wants to hire someone because she wants more help(wants someone to just sit there and let her talk *kitten* about us or complain to them) Not only does he go there twice a day but does all the shopping for her daily(always something she needs), does her bills, takes her to dr appointments, etc. She still tells everyone she is all alone, no one to help her with anything, just her and her dog- while dh is standing right there. We did hire a lady- she was shaking in the corner the second morning.
Why does he do this- out of obligation because he is the only one here and playing the martyr- so people will feel sorry for him I guess. There are other options but it is up to him to do it- I can't make him- I suggest things and they are always wrong/won't work......4 -

I am so grateful for the positive parts, for sure. The drama with my family was quickly resolved by the end of the day. The drama with dh's mom and him, has been on going since I met him, just a lot worse now.

Once again I am reminded that the way to save money is to not spend it and one way to declutter is to not buy anything. Easier said than done, but quite simple. Buying something is a way to feel better just like drugs, alcohol, or emotional eating.
The dishwasher has been emptied so all the extra bowls and pots for turkey and soup cooking are put away for a few months. the box of holiday decorations is ready to go back on the shelf. Now it's time to gather whatever is needed to file income tax. That will be here soon.

Worked then made the donation to the salvation army and, of course, went in the store. Then went to WalMart to get the biscuits for Sunday and a few other things. Later today I need to walk to Food Lion to get chicken for us and pork chops for Sunday. I was very surprised at how much of the Christmas decorations WalMart still had, at least 4 aisles full.
Tracey – some of my best Christmas gifts are “needs”. I really don’t like when someone buys me things that they think I’ll like. Too many times I really don’t. This year Jess gave me dividers for my drawer because SHE doesn’t like that I have everything in one drawer, she wants it more organized. Not sure why Colby got me the tea infuser, I never use loose tea leaves. Now some sort of holder for tea bags would have been useful (I don’t even know if they make something like that). Good shopping! Good luck on the boob squeeze
kathryn – welcome! You and M will have a lot to compare notes on.
Barbara – I’ve been on prolia for the osteoporosis and I’ve never been told that I shouldn’t have a dental procedure. You might want to check it out. It’s nice in that it’s just an injection once every 6 months. The mole is covered right now by a band aid. Just changed it last night. It’s just awkward for me to put a new one on and I take a shower almost every day, so I’ll probably leave this one on for a few days. I know that during the month of Feb. the vet gives a discount for teeth cleaning. Not sure if it’s just my vet or not. Has something to do with “national teeth month” or something like that. You can ask. What’s the worst they can say? “no”
kylia – if something of Vince’s that I’ve gotten rid of is needed, when Vince asks where it is I just tell him “I don’t know” (not that that’s a lie….<snicker>)
I prefer to buy my own clothes and give them to Vince to give to me. Or else be very specific on the size. At least if I buy it I know that it fits and that I like it
Annie – I’m glad you decided on the restaurant option. I agree with you wholehartedly not posting the time of the funeral. Here isn’t so bad (not perfect) but on a more public forum (like fb) I definitely wouldn’t. Vince would absolutely kill me if I ever posted on fb something about us being in FL. Not until I get home. If your dad goes outdoors in his underwear, doesn’t he get cold? Maybe a housecoat, at least for now. He may forget by the time the weather gets warmer
Lisa – I agree with you. To me, it’s stupid for a child to get a “participation award”. The sooner they learn that some people win and others lose, the better for them. Your boss doesn’t care if you “participated”. He expects the work done and if it isn’t, there’s the door.
Sue – you have a possessed oven, I have a possessed CPAP. Sometimes it just turns on for no reason. I can be in the other room and hear this noise.
Kylia – I like my doctor, I really do. But in this day and age of him only being able to give you a certain amount of time and having many patients that it’s hard for them to keep everything about you straight, it’s imperative that we investigate things they recommend.
Rita – oh boy that heater! Hope it gets fixed soon
Off to walk to Food Lion

G texted our WhatsApp group to say that the dermatologist had rung her, and she has an appointment for next Thursday. The guess is that it is an autoimmune response, like Vicki. Two of our group were doctors and they think so too. She had a horrible knee joint flare up some months ago. She is very happy not to be having to wash the bed linen every day.
She is still in Eastbourne, but hopes to call in on her way home tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure she is relieved to have an appointment.
Personally, I don't trust any generalised doctor. They know nothing. I only want to see the top person, who might, just possibly, have a clue. Maybe not.
Today I did some trash clearing and decluttered and sorted out the top drawer of the kitchen freezer. Very happy. Also tidied up my paper napkin and place mat drawer. I'm working up to donating some shoes and boots, which are hardly worn, expensive, and lovely, but not my thing any more.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

question of the day-
Why do the delivery people put heavy boxes right up against the screen door that opens outwards?
Again this morning I could barely get out the front door because they had put a box full of canned cat food right up against the screen door.
In the past, I have had to go out through the kitchen, into the garage and go out that way just to move a box from against the front screen door.3 -
Here I found the group on nearly the final day of the month. I hope I can keep up and stay with all of you through the coming year.6
