Machka your “genetic pre-disposition to clotting”, family history or some kind of ?DNA? test?
When I developed the blood clots in my left leg in 2009 (hospitalised 2 weeks because the left leg was full of clots), the doctor ran a number of blood tests on me and discovered that I am homozygous for the genetic mutation Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) (C677T) … meaning that both of my parents contributed to this mutation.
Homozygotes (like me) for the mutation have an increased risk of thromboembolism (blood clots) as well as premature vascular disease (and I've also been diagnosed with venous insufficiency in my left leg where I had the clots).
In addition, at the time in 2009, I was also shown to have high levels of homocysteine in my blood, although subsequently that has come down.
https://www.healthline.com/health/mthfr-gene
MTHFR is very likely the cause of the clots and could also be why I never carried a child to term.Annie imho letting the dozen do their two minutes each would give a well rounded view of your mom, and take the pressure off from you.

I think that's more or less what they did for my grandmother's service. Various one stood up and spoke. I sent in something I had written and I think my father read it (unfortunately, I couldn't be there).

Good morning ladies!
I'm getting closer to just letting go of the eulogy and the whole service. Let it be whatever the minister creates. My mother preferred to work in the kitchen getting coffee hour ready rather than attend services.
I found a black knit cardigan/jacket to wear, with black trousers and a light blue sweater. When I say I found, I mean on Amazon. I'm still thinking about it, but I better be quick if I have to hem the trousers and shorten the sleeves.
We keep going back and forth with the lawyer about the will. We don't have a copy or the original. They keep saying look harder. It doesn't much matter because everything goes to my dad, who is co-owner on everything anyway. She had no sole property. So they want us to get a locksmith to open the one locked file we have. Not gonna happen during the holidays. Maybe next week.
Hugs to you Debbie! A hard situation.

Good Saturday!
Small business equals limited close dates. We generally close New years Day, Memorial day (May), Fourth of July, Labor Day (Sept), Thanksgiving (Nov), and Christmas day. We did take the extra day at Christmas this year which was awesome. We have no real policy on sick days or vacation days, though generally 1 week vacation for first 5 years, then 2 weeks after that. Not strictly enforced, but then again all but one have been there for over 25 yrs. The one is hourly, been there about two years, still gets 1 week paid vacation and reasonable sick days. If excessive days off, no pay. We usually do half day on July 3rd (firework festivities start around 6 pm), Christmas eve, and New year's eve. I am very aware of times I take off whether long weekend, or just a few hours. I don't want to take advantage, but with all the extra hours I do put in especially during spring/summer season, I usually still have "hours" I could use. Fall and winter I rarely work from home except for training and spring orders. Those are easier to do uninterrupted. SIL usually not there the day before or the day after holidays unless I am gone.
Have a little running to do this afternoon after work. Tomorrow will take down trees and the other lights. Hoping to get some more cleaning done as well. It is nice sitting in clean living room. Worked on cross-stitch again last night. It has been nice relaxing after kitchen cleaned from dinner. Suppose to go to friend's house tomorrow evening. Will most likely be home well before midnight.
Am working on word and expectations for 2024.
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio where it is spitting and will be grey again. I really don't mind the cold as much as I dislike the grey!5 -
Girls here. Bea and I did an experiment I found on Instagram. Didn't turn out anything like the reel, but we liked them anyway! Edie then copied us. Then she attempted to dry another painting and set fire to it!!!
It's fun chaos.
I then took a photo of her, painting, and I've made a pencil sketch and will try to paint it. Not easy.
Serving lunch in a minute.

A friend who owned her own business said, "Working for yourself if great. You only have to work half days and you get to decide which 12 hours that will be."6

Barbie Lol!
I bought the black trousers. But I'm waiting on the tops. So sad Amazon thinks I'm still a large, but I've popped back up to extra large. The New Year will definitely hold a weight loss challenge for me. But meanwhile I want to be realistic about comfort during this funeral.

Yeah, I much prefer working for the government down here rather than having my own business and/or working in North America.
I'm on 18 days leave for Christmas:
4 days of annual leave
3 weekends (6 days)
3 statutory holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day)
3 extra days of leave because they agreed to that in the most recent salary package ... that's for Dec 27, 28, and 29)
and 2 of my usual Fridays off.
Now, my annual leave days are 3 days next week and the 8th. If I am still sick on those days (and possibly even if I'm not), I may be able to trade my annual leave days for sick leave days. I'd like that and will ask about it because I have something in the neighbourhood of 50+ sick leave days available. I'd prefer to use the sick leave days rather than annual leave if possible.
Meanwhile today, I managed to put my laundry away so I am temporarily caught up with my clothing laundry.
I've also been working my way through emails. Since I got back from Canada, I was struggling to get my emails below 100 in my Inbox. Normally, there's about 25 in my Inbox that I need to address. By the time my Christmas break started, I'd given up the battle and there were close to 200 in my Inbox. I'm back down to 25 now. And I've stopped the delivery of quite a few.
I'd be fine of companies wanted to send me the occasional email, but they seem to want to spam a person all the time.
I signed up for a Carer's magazine delivered by email. I thought it would come once a month. Gradually the emails started coming in more and more and more until, during this break, I tracked how frequently they were coming. Every other day I was getting an email announcing that there was a new article in the Carer's magazine. I shut it down.
Same with Amazon ... they've got to send 152 emails each time you look at the site!! Shut that one down too.
My Inbox has been a ghost town! It's wonderful! I had started losing important emails in the onslaught of unimportant rubbish.

These are mine and Bea's 'experiments '. It didn't look anything like the instructions, because we didn't have watercolour inks, but we had a lot of watery, messy, fun.
My son will be picking them up in half an hour.

This is John's design. I love it. I can see it on a scarf.
Bea's and mine could be rugs.

Barbie-love that! Unfortunately that is my SIL'S thinking!
Heather I really like those!
Trying to think of word for next year. Concept is selfish in the sense of self care. Still thinking....may just end up as selfish. Could be prioritize.....

Hey all! I have been "non-peopling" this Christmas. I have been on vacation since Friday, the 22nd. Christmas was just my DH, DYS, and I (as usual). I spent my days napping, a bit of cooking, and watching Christmas movies. I undecorated on the 26th, so I could begin to build my spaceship for the kids return on Jan. 2nd. Then I was sick for a couple of days (27th-29th). I feel better today, headache and nausea gone, but tired again. SO...postponing the ship build until next weekend (or when I feel well enough energy-wise). I am also still dealing with some major foot pain. That has gotten me really down, because I can't "do" things like I am usually always doing things. I have been reading all of your posts, though.
Annie- Sending my condolences on the passing of your mom and all of the funeral and will issues. When my mother in law passed, there were four of us who did the eulogy. Each of us speaking for only a short time. One read her favorite bible verse, then three of us read a page of special memories of her and things we knew/liked about her. BUT, most funerals I have attended the person has been eulogized by the minister. I see absolutely nothing wrong with reducing your/and anyone else's stress by letting the minister handle the eulogy.
Kim- I am of the same mindset with gift giving. It annoys me to see news segments on "bad gifts" and see handmade things listed or "household items/things that make housework easier" listed. I am one of those people who would LOVE a piece of someone's pottery or a painting they have done. I also am the chief cook and bottle washer at my house and would love ANY appliance that would make my life easier. New knives? always! New pans? sure! A food processor? definitely! OR...because I have very little wiggle room in my budget for eating out or extras, a gift card to a restaurant or a grocery store to help with the cost of groceries is always appreciated. I have never gotten a piece of jewelry as a gift and if my DH were to give one to me now, I think I would hock it and pay a bill. lol
Beth Hugs to you! Sorry to hear of your mom's fall and other health issues.
Machka I hope you are beginning to feel better!
Heather Can you share your instagram art? Or the IG inspiring it? I love to see how much fun your grands have with you and John.
Lisa- The sunroom looks fabulous! Nice work Corey and team!
Michele- Your trees look wonderful! Do you leave them up into January?
Allie- Miles is adorable. I love to see parents let their kids play in puddles, mud, etc. So good for them! Sorry to hear about Carmine. Hopefully some time/maturity will help open eyes and hearts. In the meantime, hugs to you and the family. I know it is painful.
Tracey- I love your relationship with your grands! Oh and congrats on doing so well in your class!
Kylia- You are SO busy! You are like the energizer bunny...you keep going...and going...Take time for you! Remember you can't fill someone else's bucket with an empty bucket!
Debbie- You are in a horrible position, right now. I would never assume to give advice, bc I am pretty sure I have been (and sometimes still am) in the position of dealing with a severely depressed and sometimes emotionally abusive spouse. All I will say is soak in all of the positive things in your life. Your walks, your son, your hobbies and talents, your friends. Draw all you can from the positives and read the above statement to Kylia "you can't fill someone else's bucket with an empty bucket."
Well, I better fly. I am bound and determined to actually do a little cleaning today. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -

Ruralshutterbug Please bookmark this page and come back. Many of us get our support here and don't visit the other site so we don't friend people when someone puts in a request. I have in the past so I do see some friends who now only use the other site like Dee and Minicooper. I must admit I rarely look at those posts because I come right to this site to give and to receive support in our quest for health.
I had my veins evaluated for varicose veins yesterday because of night leg cramps. Good news that is not the problem so no invasive surgery or any meds. Now I have to make sure I pace myself throughout the day, more stretching when I feel tension in my legs, more water, no heavy blankets on my feet at night, continue the anti-inflammatory way of eating, and passion flower for my nerves I still had some minor ones last night. Yesterday was too busy of a day. Today nothing on the schedule so I have more time to relax.5 -
From Tracey: Lisa -I have been thinking about sheet vinyl as flooring for our kitchen area. We do have vinyl plank in the bathroom and really like it. Ours looks like wood. I’m hoping sometime this year to be able to get flooring done. I keep trying to get my daughter to do something in the trades. I think she would like it because a lot of it is working alone.
More sunroom ya-ya:I goosed Corey again last night (unintentionally at first) and told him I'd be happy to make the 25 or 30 small miter cut pieces that will have to be done on the kitchen end of the sunroom, while he gives me the measurement and then nails them up. I'm not proud to say this of myself, but the panic in his eyes was just slightly hilarious. I mean, we did just have that conversation about him preferring to work alone, right? But, because he loves me, he said "Yes, of course, you can do the cuts," but I could see the pain in his soul at the thought. I'll let him off the hook this morning. From Kylia: Lisa - I have vinyl plank in my kitchen and laundry room/mud room. I love it! Ot has survived 10 years of large dogs and is now going on 14 yrs. Easy care. Still looks new. Not slippery when wet. I will always remember linoleum as getting really slippery when wet. Just my two cents worth.
Ah - Corey's been awake for a bit, need to take him his third cup of coffee and see what the order of business will be. We do have to get the propane swapped out for the stove in the sunroom to be able to work out there. It's well below freezing this morning... I really, really, REALLY appreciate the sunshine, though. When it's grey, the cold seems to hurt more!
Off to the races, kids,
Love y'all,

Headache, nausea, sore feet? Have you checked yourself for COVID recently?

Annie ... whether you give your mom's eulogy is entirely up to your comfort level. There are no right ways, or appropriate ways, or expected ways at funerals. I have seen everything. I gave my son's eulogy because I knew him best and knew he would expect me to. The minister gave my father's but he was very close to both of my parents ... an unusually sensitive young man who did a wonderful job. When my mom passes, I don't see myself being capable of giving her eulogy. Whatever you choose, will be absolutely the perfect thing to do.
My mom ... has evidently decided to return to the land of the living in full force. When I visited yesterday she was having a hissy fit over a therapist she thought had been disrespectful and mean (which ended up not being true) and wanted to sign herself out of the rehab facility! Even though it took a while to settle her down, a fighting spirit is what's gotten her to the age of 92 and what she'll need to keep going. She is also getting stronger and the therapist in question spent time explaining what an excellent therapy session she had yesterday and was dismayed that my mom got so angry. The problem came when the therapist pushed my mom's chair into a hallway expecting an aide to take her back to her room and, instead, my mom was left to sit there unattended for a while. I get my mother's angst, but she overreacted.
It's lightly snowing here near Buffalo

Michele: Yes, I would need to get a hybrid. I am not ready for an all electric vehicle.
Vickie: I hope you get some things done on Sunday and Monday.
RVRita: I wasn't involved with my husband's healthcare for many years. But as his walking declined I started driving him more and eventually attending appointments. Somehow his endocrinologist found out about his passing and sent me a short note. I was really touched by this.
Debbie: Does your DH have anyone besides you. After all you are only one person. The situation with DH, you and his mother seems very isolating. We did hire someone and also used an agency for my husband. Without this we would not have had anyone but me to take care of him. And even then I didn't get enough emotional support. It would be great if the right personal care assistant came along and shopped for your MIL and touched up the house and sat with her one morning or afternoon a week. It might be a start. Would it help if DH told his Mom that the doctor says he can't keep caring for her 7 days a week. Then it would be a medical decision, not his decision.
Grandmallie: Right now I have my husband's ramp in the garage. I hate to take it down. I might like having it and we paid so much for it. I guess I could pull the car up to the garage and have a charger. I don't know. An older friend said I needed to keep up with the times. I am trying! But my attitude isn't always the best!
Tracey Funny how Jonah knows all about Hallmark movies.
Welcome: Alison
Ginny: Really 24 is low enough to make an impact on my level of energy? I haven't had a dose of Vitamin D in 10 days. I will have to get better at taking it.
Annie: Your outfit for the funeral is what I would wear. I wear black pants to funerals.
Machka: I agreed to let Chicos and Northstyle send me texts...bot hretail stores. One sent me a text Christmas Day and they have abused this privilege. I unsubscribed from one and plan to do the other.
I did some knitting and decluttering this morning. I have not exercised but feel too lonely to exercise. I have been alone and in the house since Wed afternoon. I am taking lunch to a friend and then maybe this afternoon I will exercise. I did buy a yellow rug for the living room, but another yellow rug I liked went on sale. So I ordered that as well. So I will find a place for both rugs. Yellow was my husband's favorite color. He would be rolling his eyes, that now after he passes I decide to p bring more yellow into the home!
Best,

Annie- it took us 4 months after my dad passed and we found our dads will in a UPS box up in the attic🙄 honestly ..it really didn't make much sense anyway,as my dad had done a reverse mortgage on the house..
There are alot of things my parents did,I wouldn't do.but that was then and this is now..and you sure can't live in the past for sure.
Rosemarie- if your garage has enough room for your car ,they have smallish chargers that can be bolted to the side of the garage to hook into no problem.
Heather- you and John and the kids are sooo talented..just amazing.
Miles 2nd birthday is the 7th and we are celebrating on the 6th
Daycare had a new years party.
She really does it up ..for the kids and im sure she will have a party for Miles too.4 -

Did Bob Harper’s Inside Out DVD then walked the neighborhood. Now waiting for the delivery at BK. Wish it would come soon. I need to leave by about 3:30 to lector. I am going to take some clothes with me that I think I’ll be able to get by with, something that’ll cover the BK shirt, different shoes.
Kim – we always used to get a live tree. We’d go to the farm in Oct and tag it then pick it up in Nov or Dec. But then we got a cat. We opted to get an artificial tree because we were afraid the cat would get the sap on its fur and rub up against a piece of furniture or cabinet. When we’d get the tree, the kids got to get a ride on the tractor (there was an attachment for, like, a dump cart) drinking hot chocolate. Ahhh...the days I bought my boots when we were in PA. I guess we were here about 10 years (so that would have made the boots about 15 years old) when the entire sole fell off. I bought another pair down here. Cheap ones since we don’t get a whole lot of snow, and just put this waterproofing spray stuff on it. Good enough for down here. Good idea to put a write up of the dress on the back of the picture.
Tracey – Memorial Day in the US is at the end of May
Allison – WB Most of the ladies on her don’t do the “friend” thing, we just come here and share/support, and we’d love to have you join us. We’re a chatty bunch, so be prepared!!!
Ginny – plastics in the tea bags?
Barbie – LOL My father owned his own business. Which was NOT easy without a wife, but he did it.
M – I unsubscribed to a lot of emails, too. What that means is that the “delete” button doesn’t get as much of a workout….lol
KJ – yes, we leave the trees up until Jan. Honestly if I let Vince have his way, we’d have them up all year long! But I want to get ready for summer. I try to have the goal of having everything down and put away before we leave for FL. That’s the GOAL anyway.
Margaret – how are Dee and minicooper doing?
Beth – so wonderful to hear of your mom
Still waiting for that truck to come to BK. Time to text the manager again to see if it got there. Hope it comes soon so I can get the work done and don’t have to go back after church.

Late in her life my mother told me that she had to go to church so there would be a minister to say nice things about her at her funeral.

I just read this article about Ozempic. It was very interesting for anyone who is considering it.2 -
Good morning ladies!
I've been thinking about what else can I incorporate next year to keep on my journey to better health. In this group, we have discussed starting small. Do a little bit. Add one little thing. Keep building on success.
I ran across "One Small Step Can Change Your Life - the Kaizen Way" by Robert Maurer. Many good ideas here on the benefit of starting small and building on them. Here's a FREE download of the book.

Rosemarie-I have read some of the research and for many people that is not optimal. I think we need to remember that some of the numbers are educated guesses. Many doctors work from numbers and don't take into account the total patient. You say you don't want to exercise because you are lonely. One of the things I like about my outside walks is that even if I don't talk to others, I get to see people in neighborhood I walk through. Also-does the senior center near you have a gym/exercise classes? Maybe check one of those out.

I recently realized one of favorite brands of teas used plastic for their teabags. It is now off my list.
Michele I wish I could give more info on Dee and Minicooper. I see their name every once in awhile but I do not stay on the site long. Shortly after mini left I did write that we miss here. She lives somewhere in the area I live. We never got together like I did with Nancy and Gail. Also two I miss...1 -

Rosemarie ... Ginny: Really 24 is low enough to make an impact on my level of energy? I haven't had a dose of Vitamin D in 10 days. I will have to get better at taking it.
A low level of Vitamins D makes a significant difference in my knee arthritis, not to mention my mood. Additionally, Vitamin D support your immune system which is so necessary when you're grieving and stressing your system already. I live near Buffalo in the Northeast ... my doctor and I are keeping my levels around 90. Ginny is right, though, research is just catching up on the necessity of vitamins and what levels are optimal. Worth a conversation with your doctor.
Allie ... The photos of Miles in the puddles are outstanding! Maybe one of my favorites and certainly worth entering into a photo contest.
