I sign the closing documents for my mom's house in 10 minutes. The mobile notary is coming to my house for the signing. Nervous, for some reason.
I'm working from home today. My skin is in some kind of flare mode, and it is unsightly and painful, but thankfully, not unbearably itchy.
Tracey -- super cute hair cut. You look great.

My son has been having chest X-rays, blood draws etc in preparation for a new med for his auto immune thing. He said they took 9 vials!
Max, of course, had done brilliantly at the school. The parents were very late back because they had to see every subject teacher. Edie said, "We've been over here such a lot recently. Do you find it tiring?"
We have decided to keep her overnight next Friday when Bea does her theatre show in Eastbourne. She has cycling in the morning., but that's fine. She wants to sleep in the queen bed in the front room where Max usually sleeps.
Every time she opens her mouth something interesting comes out.
I'm reading all the medical stuff with great interest. I could list you all, but I'd run out of time and space! Just know I am thinking of you, each and every one.
But a special mention for Vicki. JUST SAY NO. You are on the path to dropping dead at your post. Retirement benefits are no use to you if you are dead. We truly care about you.

In fact, I'm making cowboy cookies this afternoon. I make a double batch and freeze them individually so Corey can pull them out and make them himself when he is in the mood for something. They're what Mama called "kitchen sink" cookies - as in everything but the kitchen sink goes in them. (Here's a link.)
One thing I do that really makes a huge difference is that, besides browning the butter, I also toast the pecans, toast the coconut and I toast the oats in the oven until just browned before I mix them into the cookie dough. Makes a crazy difference in how good these taste. I might even toast the flour this time, too. Every toasted item has simply improved the taste. I also add raisins and dried cranberries, and leave out the cinnamon. Oh, and I always leave myself enough time for all these things to cool down, as if you put all that warm stuff in the mix, it melts the chocolate chips, and while still tasty, is a little weird!
Anyway... I also told Corey I'd get dinner going, just spaghetti Bolognese tonight. It's a chilly, rainy afternoon here, and a comfort food dinner sounded good to both of us. I'll make a big batch and freeze most of it for another couple meals.
No more medical anything until Wednesday next week, back to the orthopod. I can use a break.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in damp and rainy Arkansas

I have never heard of toasting the oats or flour but I am sure it is great- need to try and remember the next time I make cookies

Vicki - What Heather said. Our jobs aren't worth dying for--and it's really impacting your health already. Please do what's necessary to make sure you're OK. We're worried about you.
I got two good hours up on my feet and moving in the kitchen this afternoon before the pain set in - the time is beginning to stretch now... I think it's at least possible that the cream is working to offset the atrophy, but I may be giving it more credit than it should get. Could be the exercise, too. Just hope it's a trend and not a one-off. Also got five cookies out of the oven, and a happy husband who already snarfed one... and I've got another 50 in the freezer flash-freezing. I think I'll just do five per bag this time. I need to make labels so the time/temp for baking is on the bags. Ten bags are too many to write it out!
Debbie - This was my first time trying it, but if toasting flour made a difference, I couldn't tell. Toasting the oats, however, has a very definite, positive difference, a nutty depth of flavor.
Also happy with the bolognese. I make it in the Instant Pot, and have found that meat sauces and dishes with beans, like cassoulet, do really well if I give them 5 to 7 minutes on high pressure and let it release naturally. Beans and meats just get so tender. I feel like I learn a little something else every time I use it. Maybe someday I'll be as good a cook as Corey is... doubt it, though.
Time for dins.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -
Rebecca--Great pictures. Sending lots of hugs.
Heather--Great news on getting the referral and going to get the xray this morning. I pray you get the answers you need.
Kylia--Pray you are getting some much needed rest and feeling better.
I am really having a bad week and can not seem to stay on track. The visit to the heart doctor has me worried. I guess I figured it would be like most the time and nothing to worry about. But now I know it has to be taken care of. I have noticed my breathing is labored and that is because of the fulid, but taking the meds and spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Also I had one of my girls call in this last week and got a doctors note so I have covered her days this week and last and now she can not work her weekend shifts and everyone has plans so that means I will have to work.11 days straight is to much when they are 10-12 hours days. Sorry I have not been more active here. Guess feeling sorry for myself and have to get a handle on it.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE where they are saying snow the next couple days.
What would happen if you announced to your boss that you were going to go to 4 days a week for health reasons?2 -
Went to my PC yesterday to go over bloodwork, etc. She was very happy with the improvement of my numbers over the last 3 months. That was when I changed my diet from low carb, high protein and fat to the Kidney diet. My A1C went down from 5.7 to 5.6, my kidney numbers all improved. My GFR was 42 last time, up to 59. This company checks 2 different GFR’s the other I have went from 50 up to 72. Both put me out of CKD! My cholesterol stayed at 128. So she was very happy with that. I am going to a physician that allows 30 minute visits. My DH usually goes first and is done in about 10 minutes. I stay and ask her all the questions I’ve written down for her, including stuff about my DH. This works great for us and I’m glad I found this doc when we moved here. They do referrals as needed, but we are short on doctors here so takes up to 3 months to get appointment with a specialist. X-rays and lab work depend on where you get them. So once you get a specialist, take every appointment they give you and stay on their books! Otherwise, if something changes, takes FOEVER it seems to get an appointment.
I have to stop the squats for at least a week until my back stop hurting. This was one thing I discussed yesterday. I have a bad habit of going full speed ahead whenever doing something like that challenge. I end up hurting myself by going too fast. I am not going to stop the squats, but have to stop the structured plan I was doing and go slower.
RVRita, Roswell, NM. 👽🛸
Yes, high protein diets aren't good for the kidneys. I eat a lower protein diet that is based on a kidney diet.
Our doctor here is great. Both my husband and I go to her. I book back to back appointments and we both go in. Each appointment is 15 minutes so we are in for half an hour in total. If I know we'll need more time, I'll book double appointments ... up to an hour in total.
She is very much a "triage " doctor in the sense that she listens and the provides referrals to the appropriate tests and specialist. But at least stuff gets done.
And I have had to do my own research on the various specialists, labs, etc. to determine who works best for me. So when my doctor says that I should see a physiotherapist, I know where I would like to go.
Also, via the health care system here, we can request a Plan which gives us reduced cost visits to allied health care specialists.

Well the tenant from Hades is still here but the lawyer is now involved so we will see how that goes. DD and I are to the point we really don't care so much about the back rent as just getting her out of here. Her threats and nuisance calls to the police have steadily escalated to the point I am a little nervous about being here alone while DD goes to Vegas this coming weekend on a buying trip for work.

Rita-nice improvement on numbers!
Michele-this is a random thought but with your callous-have you had a CT scan? I only ask because when I had mine it showed a foreign object (piece of metal) on bottom near big toe. PT asked if they were going to operate. Podiatrist said no because it doesn't seem to be causing me trouble-there is no callous or anything . . . .maybe?
Heather-so happy you got the X-ray!
Tracey-nice hair cut!
Margaret-congratulations on getting social security done-it is tedious but I found the people I worked with were very nice.
Vicki-the work hours sound brutal. Please take care of yourself. I know it is hard to let work go, but sometimes we have to, even for a day.
Kylia-glad you checked in. Remember, the plan is you are better by tomorrow so you can enjoy the weekend.
Pip-you two take your camping seriously!
Lisa-let's hope that the good time keeps stretching.
Good meeting in Columbus today. Came home, didn't get everything done I wanted. Had a work call from someone and was surprised at the amount of bigotry he expressed. Don't know how he can do the job he has feeling the way he expressed things today.
House is close to ready. Good will trip tomorrow afternoon, stuff to recycle. Thorough vacuum and dust tomorrow. Wash blankets arriving tomorrow for twin beds. I got this.
On that note-I woke at 3:30 am. I do need to go into work in am and get a couple of things done to be basically off next week so going in to meditate and get a good night's sleep.
Take care all,

Yup. Kirby noticed that the new potential camper didn’t have a quick connect to propane for his griddle and no outside power outlets. Glad we found this out before buying it. We put $500 down for them to hold it for us but that can be returned back to our bank. Oh well. We’ve always said, if it was meant to, it was meant to be7 -

Rosemarie - It’s great that your son and wife are coming. They should vacuum for you just before they leave.
I am still cleaning dog hair from the last time Jeb visited.
I did my presentation this morning. Even though I was two minutes over, be thought the video I showed within was very relevant and didn’t dock me, so 100%!
Pip - I guess I had forgotten about a couple. I think you had the Airstream when I first joined the thread.
Annie - my hair was curly as a little girl, then straight and now curly again. I straighten it fairly regularly, but I like this so I’ll see how often I do it. I haven’t really straightened it since last May except for a couple of times.
Lisa - this is the shortest my hair has been since I was a teen. It’s very different for me. I do need to go buy some dye, I’ll be sticking with the brown for a while yet.
It’s great to hear today’s test wasn’t so bad. I agree that I think you should be able to have the coffee, I’m sure it’s in the event of an emergency and they have to operate or some such stupid thing.
Beth - it’s always gratifying to clean and make it feel good.
Heather - Edie is very perceptive. You and Johnny are very good about not letting it show though apparently.
Last week I opened up my grandmother’s diary. The page I opened to was, “the kids were here all day today while “they” were away. We went to see Arthur in the evening and we even took them there with us.
(Arthur was her brother who was in the hospital very sick. He actually passed a week later). I would have been almost 12 and my brother just turned 8, I don’t think I ever felt we were a nuisance, but as an adult reading her diaries I’ve learned that she was quite put out with my parents for leaving us so often with them.
Sue - don’t have anyone that come stay with you for the weekend? I hope she gets gone soon.
Thank you all for the compliments on my haircut.

well, plans for tomorrow have all fallen through.
Supposed to go to lunch with dh, then I wanted to take an extra long walk at the wetlands before picking up Ezie from school then help dh pack to go to Sac.
Found out this afternoon that Ezie doesn't have school tomorrow so I will have her all day.
No birthday lunch out with dh, no walk and dh will be leaving at 5 to go to Sac. He will leave just about the same time Ezie will go home. Will have corned beef for dinner(by myself)
FoodMaxx has corned beef for $1.68 a pound. Bought two and already cooked them and have them chilling now so I can slice them thinly.
Saturday I have the ladies luncheon. Church Sunday morning. The rest of the weekend will be spent cleaning/decluttering the house. Work in the yard and finally spray my nectarine tree if it doesn't rain.
Going to head for bed a bit early. Woke up to a cat fight at 5:45 and didn't go back to sleep.
Walked MIL's dog and walked the wetlands- ending today with 15,000 steps for the day.

Tracey - The hair is perfect for you. I so wish I had curly hair! Yes, keep colouring it. A vibrant chestnut?
All my life I've dreamt of long, red, curly hair, like a Pre-Raphaelite painting. My DSIL has such hair. We are trying to arrange a visit from my brother and her. We have fixed on a Monday some time because they can stay with her niece, who doesn't work Monday and Tuesday in the café in Brighton. I told my lovely brother that I couldn't host them for the night. The thought of changing and washing all the kids bedsheets and towels is beyond me. I'm just not able to move around the house easily, so even getting breakfast seems like a mountain. Nor can I go out walking.
A lunch is sufficient and we can get delivery, or a taxi to Hove for dinner.
I really want to see him, as we haven't got together since the wedding in October. Also I can give him the money for his daughter's wedding present, which will now be a baby present! I had no accessible money at the time.
Hair trim today at the new place. I'm only having half an inch off.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Here I sit. Procrastinating. Don’t want to tally up the CI damage from today’s after-birthday lunch with T. Don’t want to get up and Jeopardy walk to offset the damage. Don’t want to write the thank you notes to T, Te and PaT. Didn’t want to ask L to cover for fellowship, so was going to ask Te, but pulled up my big girl panties and emailed L. Hard to ask help from someone who I sense dislikes me.
Effective but not a feel-good massage today. Really increased shoulder mobility but YOW.
Debbie the very happiest of birthdays to you! Sorry you have to work all day and no lunch with DH. Instead of cleaning and decluttering the house, can you give yourself some kind of birthday treat? Visit your mom? Take a walk???
Lisa that TEE sounds scary. Amazing what they can do, but yikes! Just love Pioneer Woman’s flavors.
Barbie fingers X’d the PT helps Jake’s back. Amen to Gentle Leaders, used them with Dixie her whole life, and Tumble for the first many years.
Heather Bea’s “4 T” pun took me awhile, but  Yours to Vicki. Truth this.
Tracey the new ‘do, va va VOOM! Ultrasound, music, so many sparks of hope for dementia sufferers and their families. Con VERY grats on yet another perfect score!
April con VERY grats on the smaller shirts! That is way more satisfying than any number on a scale.
Rosemarie when I first started on statins, my joints ached all the time. Changed from atorvastatin to pravastatin helped a little, reducing the dosage from 20mg to 10mg did the trick. Will share pics of your visiting 3 grand-dogs?
Carol hope those antibiotics do the trick. 3 weeks is a looong time.
Beth “… proud of myself…” and rightly so! Inspiring!
Flea hoping there’s a big sigh of relief after the signing.
Sue wishing the tenant from hell back to her place of origin. Do the lawyer and the sheriff know she’s threatened you and yours? Is there someone who can come and stay with you? Scary.
All of you who are only allowed one issue per Dr. visit, when you make the appointment can you make multiple appointments for as many issues as needed? I emaild a list of four questions to my MD last time and it was very helpful. He spent (and of course billed for) over 30 minutes with me, our best in person appointment ever. He even touched me (where the leg swelling is). First time an MD has put their hands on my body since Dr. D retired in 2013.
Managed to take morning vitamins so there’s one positive… only one for the day. Killed enough time that I’m sleepy.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Snowflake1968 wrote: »Annie - can you separate your books to somewhere else in the house. Sometimes dementia can cause people to be fixated, this might be a source of contention for a bit. It’s so hard to deal with.
My Aunt got fixated on sending birthday cards, problem was the people she wanted to send them to had passed. Her daughter had some cheap cards she let her search through to “give” to each one. She would pick one out, ask my cousin for the address, she would tell her she had to find the address. The next day they did it all again.
This went on for a few months until she found another thing.

Some tips for dealing with the fixation thing:

About repetitive behaviour:

Repetition can be verbal (also referred to as "perseverating", where the person may repeat the same question) or can be physical (repetitive movements like rubbing hands together again and again).
Unfortunately, people who perseverate are sometimes characterized as “attention seekers.” In truth, the person has little insight or control over this.
Since his brain injury, my husband perseverates when he is stressed.
Perhaps this might help a bit ...

Good morning ladies!
Tracey - When I saw your new haircut I thought it was one of your girls at first. Very nice. Are you sure you're old enough to be in this group? By the way, intriguing about ultrasound helping with some dementia. I'll go down that rabbit hole when I get a chance. How interesting reading your grandmother's diary and looking at it through adult eyes. I've felt the same way looking at my mom's and grandparent's lives.
Sue - I've been worried about your renter from Hades for some time now. Is there anyone who can stay with you while your DD is away? Keep the pepper spray handy or some means of self defense. I hate that you have to be concerned about this stressful situation and can't go about your business enjoying your day without looking over your shoulder.
Beth - I'm sending the teleporter to pick you up, my kitchen needs a deep clean like that. Sounds like your DH overdid it with his projects. Hope it's not too serious.
Joy - very glad changing socks made such a difference for you.
More on my foot:I heard back from Dr. Paul yesterday. No rheumatoid arthritis, no kidney problems, everything normal except my A1C has JUMPED to 5.7 into the pre-diabetes range. From 5.5 a year and a half ago, and this is after me changing my diet for the better and getting more exercise over the past 3 months, although there was Christmas. He isn't worried, said let's retest in another 6 months. I know I can make more changes to my diet. I'll pull up Rita's.
He also said there's a chance I have a stress fracture in that foot causing swelling. But other than the swelling, the only real pain I have at the end of the day is where a corn is developing on my emerging hammer toe. Dr. D gave me a list of things to try - RICE, anti-inflammatories, walk less. I'll give that a go for a bit and see if that helps.
I mentioned the herniated disc/sciatica to both docs, but they didn't seem to pick up on it. I do think that has something to do with this, according to Dr. Google. Time to start back with the PT exercises for it, I know them by heart.
And that reminds me, I read somewhere that if doctors will just let the patient talk for a little bit, and really listen to what they are saying, they will tell the doc the problem the majority of the time.

Good morning ladies!
I gained almost a pound this week. That's from going out to eat, and my little tantrum binge, and then general eating that little something extra. But this week will be better! I have high hopes for the next book, 100 Days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangle. I'm expecting to be told to journal again. But I might actually do it this time.
The backyard floodlight is burned out. It's up on top of the second story. I use it when I let Teddy out in the dark. So I guess I will have to call someone with a ladder, like roofing guys or tree guys. I'm not going up there, and neither is Dad.
Sue good luck with your tenant. Hope the lawyer helps.
Machka thanks for the links about perseverating. Dad definitely fixates on things. Especially when he is bored and looking for something to do.
Have a wonderful day my friends!
