Morning friends
The birds are singing outside and its going to be beautiful.. going to try and get some laundry done.1 -
Jackie - good job and great plan swapping the carbs for more meat and/or veggies. Yes, we are one busy group.
Annie - thinking about all of the challenges you are facing. Dad's increasing care. The potential of losing your home if he goes into assisted living. I could be wrong, but your sis might not only be concerned about your dad, but about you as well. A lot to consider, and it's overwhelming.
That early dementia program at the Senior Center sounds neat, maybe your sister could go along with you to find out more if you haven't been there already.
Also, another idea - Area Agency on Aging if you haven't visited them. There's probably one in your county. Their whole job is to provide resources. The one in our county has social workers and counselors that caregivers can talk to as well. Ours is funded with some federal $$ and grants if I remember correctly.
Lisa - that Feria hair color is impressive. Looks very good on you!
Pip- love your summer haircut. And your hair color! If you want gray I have plenty to share. I think you'd have liked the picture more if someone else would have taken it (different camera angle) and you could have had a chance to smile. Selfies can look like mug shots, or at least mine do when I take them. They all get deleted immediately.
Rita - You've been getting in some good exercise, wow! Nice of you to put that turtle back in the water.
Barbie - glad you like your dentist; I'm sure you'll be glad when everything is done. I still have 28 teeth anchored in my jaw, I've lost track of how many are crowned, I know all of my molars are. My wisdom teeth got yanked when I was 18.
Barbara - nice you'll be able to get back with the BB&B. Glad Tumble took you for a walk, lol. - I know, it used to tug on my heartstrings when Rosie felt left behind and cry when I'd take off to run an errand.
Diabetes Prevention Action Plan - I'm just babbling here so feel free to skip:Our "assignment" is to list one action plan that could help delay the onset of T2 diabetes, based on the class discussion last Monday. I've come up with 2.
1.) Get back to the gym. Even though I get plenty of exercise and activity working outside right now, getting back into the gym habit and doing some dedicated strength training is probably a good idea. Blink your eyes and it's winter again, right? The plan is stop there at least once a week before my early morning shopping. I remember James Clear's advice on getting back to the gym. Just show up if nothing else. Get used to swinging into the parking lot. Make it a habit and go from there.
2.) Drinking more water. I already drink a LOT of liquid during the day, mostly coffee and green tea. And get a few cups of water in addition. But I'll start tracking it to make sure I'm getting at least 4 cups or more of plain water each day. Recommendations vary on the need to chug extra water if already consuming plenty of liquid, most advise using urine color as a guide.
Make it a super day.

Lisa - I was well aware that a UTI would scupper the operation. That's why I was so worried. They do a urine test the morning you go in.
My problem was that it was hard to tell if I had one or not. I had some leukocytes, but only a small amount, and sometimes none at all on the test. I was just aware that 'down there' was not comfortable all the time and it was preying on my mind. (No pain on peeing.) I am drinking a lot of water, so that may have obscured the results. Even the doctor wasn't sure when she tested, and I think she wouldn't have given me the antibiotics under normal circumstances. Of course, they will send it off to the labs, but she gave me my normal, wide-spectrum, Cefalexin.
I was very worried about the practice being closed for the bank holiday, and I'm extremely glad I went, and that she was sympathetic. I hope to feel better soon, and can think about other things!
I had a lovely long nap this afternoon!

Oooh Machka, I love your floors. Very beautiful stain!💖👍🏼
Margaret yes soft brush and small circles. I was so surprised the dentist said I was brushing too hard and that is why my guns were receding, exposing the roots a bit. I was always a firm believer that the most vigorous I brushed the better.
PipLove the haircut, and keep your natural color! Its beautiful too!

Some time ago, I coloured a picture on the page before this one and it bled through to this picture (when it was not coloured) enough that I thought I couldn't salvage this picture. I figured all the bleed-through had pretty much ruined my chances of colouring something that didn't look all blotchy.
Then I found acrylic paint pens! Because I figured this picture was more or less a lost cause, I began to play with my acrylic paint pens ... and before I knew it ...
An interesting life lesson. We, or something we've done, or the way life has gone, might appear to be a lost cause ... but we can get out our acrylic paint pens and work with it to create something different that makes us smile.

Dh loves using the acrylic paint pens when doing the detailing on the 3D printed things. A lot easier than using a paint brush and a LOT less clean up. We have several sets with different tip sizes which are really nice. Amazon has some great deals on them.
Pip- the main spot I have grey is a streak over my right eye. I am getting a little more grey through out but with my hair being light brown/dark blond naturally, it isn't showing up as much.
I would like a bit more grey/silver.
Dad always said, he didn't care what color it turned, as long as it didnt "turn loose"- He passed away at 83 yrs old with a FULL head of snow white hair.

Another thought about dental work. People who are terrified by the dentist or who have had bad experiences are quick to share their fears but people who find the process easy and non threatening rarely say anything. I just remembered that my walking friend has had many dental adventures and has never said more than that they occurred with no complaints other than it interfered with her schedule. When I had a root canal a few years ago the only downsides were that I don't like to sit still that long and I would have preferred to spend my money on something else.

Barbie - I genuinely am trying to find my way to that same mental and emotional equilibrium for seeing the gynecologist two weeks from now and I'm struggling with it, so I appreciate the outlook. I'm telling myself everything I can think of to gin myself up for being OK with it (was going to say "wanting to do it," but yeah, no). I'll be satisfied if I just don't end up a quivering wreck afterward again. Box breathing helps. Some.
Barbara AHMOD - We dodged the damage from the last storms, but it's going to be a constant, it's that time of year in Tornado Alley, unfortunately. No predictions, just hope that the usual patterns that show us to have been protected so far by the vagaries of geography and wind currents continue to keep us that way. This is a map of Tornado Alley in North America, and we're in the "high" tornado section (we're at the blue spot) but in between two sections of the "highest"(the darkest brown blobs).
Feel as if I'm swimming upstream - have been napping almost every day for more than a week. Not because I want to, but because I have to--I'm so exhausted by 1 or 2 pm that if I don't lay down, I'll fall asleep sitting up. Not my usual pattern, and I can only wonder if it has to do with the meds. I keep feeling as if I get enough sleep just one night, I'll be awake and alert enough to break the cycle. Ah well, it will pass.
Everything's done that I wanted to do today except to get one panel done on the quilt, so I'm going to go do that in order to make myself feel like I finished my to-do list! Lordie... Picked up a couple take-n-bake pizzas for tonight, neither of us was in the mood for much fussing.
Later, my chickens,
Love from sunny for the moment Arkansas,

Well, here it is almost the end of May and I have just found y'all! Noni in Alabama, here. The end of April, I started being more intentional on my general health-trying to make things happen, rather than just letting them happen. I've done well (not perfect, but 'better' is my goal!) this month with my food choices and water intake. Still working on remembering to take my supplements and getting enough protein. Last year, I started trying to reclaim a yard from pretty weedy grass and invasives. Still working it and making progress. Working in the yard, however, uses all of my energy and my housekeeping has gone to pot. Hoping to take back some control during this last bit of May. Not sure how to balance yard work and housework, as I have energy limitations these days, but I will figure it out! Good to meet you all and wishing everyone strength and courage on this journey-)8

My little guy doing the pledge of allegiance at daycare...such a good boy..
Annie like I said contact whatever elder services Deleware has after the holiday weekend.. they have a wealth of information also check the AARP website also..
I hope everyone enjoys there holiday weekend xoxo5 -
Noni in Alabama, Glad to meet you. I have frequently inventories my life to see what's most important and housework always comes up low on the list. I take care of keeping the kitchen and bathroom tidy and sanitary, doing the laundry, and putting things away, but the rest is far less important than walking, pet care, husband care, yard care, reading, and a few other things. I hope you'll keep coming back. I read this thread every morning with my breakfast and sometimes later in the day to remind me that people care about me and that I have support from other women who consider their health important.
Lisa, You have endured and dealt with so much medical stuff that I have huge admiration for you. When I was first facing a visit to the gynecologist as a young woman, someone said that it was really no different than having someone look in my mouth. That was not comforting.

Barbie - remember when you first told us about the Thursday Murder Club book series by Richard Osman? It was at least a year ago. I was able to borrow the first three books from the library on Kindle either immediately or after a short wait. I decided to re-read the series and now there's a huge waiting list for them. The Last Devil to Die was available so I snatched it up. I hope Osman keeps the series going.
Think I'll start over with Charles Todd's Scotland Yard's Det. Ian Rutledge series. It's a lot different that Osman's books, but in my mind, the books give a good picture of England after WW1 and what it was like for veterans and the citizens recovering from the war.
Lisa - does your house have a basement/tornado shelter? The Farmer's Almanac predicts a cool wet summer for the Pacific Northwest and according to a climate report I saw yesterday, it looks like that might be accurate. Glad I'm raising cool weather tomatoes. I too have been falling asleep in my chair, I nearly fell asleep at the optometrist's waiting for him to come into the exam room. He stuck his head in the door and asked if he should turn off the lights and let me sleep, lol. I wonder if pollen/allergies are making us tired. Did better today.
Noni - welcome! Sounds like you are on the right track. I just read yardwork counts as strength training, and I sure believe it.
Heather - glad you were able to see the doctor and get a prescription. Please remind us again - your operation is next week, right?
Did more closet cleanout today, have a pile for the thrift store. Last year I ordered several tops and they are all too large - they were when I got them. So off they go.

Through my long dental history, I have found that most dentists now are better than they were a number of years ago. Simply putting the topical anaesthetic on the gums with a Q-tip before using the needle was a huge breakthrough!
I've also discovered that I have a bad reaction to the adrenaline (epinephrine) in the injections (breathing problems, racing heart rate, sweating, nausea, dizziness, increased anxiety, and feeling like I was going to faint). But dentists have local anaesthetics without adrenaline on hand, and I feel much better when they use those ones.

New floor!

Next up ... painting.

This is how it was before ... I found it dark and cold, like being in a cave. Also, we have dark grey carpet at work, so having dark grey carpet at home seemed too much like living at the office. The new floor feels much warmer.

Machka - good idea, I may look into that.
Love the colouring with the paint pens. I have a set of those I use for ceramics and delicate painting, I wouldn’t have thought of colouring with them.
What a difference the flooring made!
Heather - happy that you rang the doctor, much better to be safe than sorry.
Lisa - Rodger never returns anything either, it drives me crazy.
I hope it’s not the meds making you tired. If that’s the only side effect and it works it might be worth it though.
I got to school this morning to find out that we had a whole school walk this morning. It was called Tom’s Walk for a local boy that suffered with mental illness and passed in 2018. The walk is a way to raise money to help others.
I was not prepared for this in any way whatsoever. I wore my knock off Birkenstock’s that help my feet when I’m able to sit a bit. They are not meant for walking almost 5km. I have a blister starting on both feet, and of course my plantar fasciitis is yelling at me.
On the other hand, it was a beautiful walk, in a part of the city I hadn’t walked around before. It is within walking distance for me if I was doing 5K’s again.
I did nothing this evening, tomorrow I am apparently helping Rodger do some landscaping. I’m not 100% clear on his vision but I’ll go along. I know his reasoning is to make it easier to mow.
