AUGUST 2024 Monthly Running Challenge

No running on the schedule for the first couple of days in August. Yesterday I went to Pilates after not going for 3 weeks. It was so hard and I am glad I have a rest day today. I am going to try incorporating a short walk on rest days this month, so today it will be on the treadmill after work. I’ll have to find a fun place to see. Also getting a massage later today, which will be very nice.7

Great pace @chris_in_cal .
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Thanks. I'm sure it is fine. I'll find out in 4 or 5 days. I always say that it is good if they let me leave because I know if the tech saw something that needs immediate attention, they would not let me go. LOL As for Sunday, the only thing I am planning is mom taking me out for lunch after church. We have an important church wide meeting Sunday night I want to attend, so no time for much. (I'm United Methodist and they are having some issues with doctrine these days, which is what the meeting is about.) My neighbor is taking me and mom out to eat tomorrow night at a nice place we went to last year. I'm not sure when I'll get my "run" in. It won't be on Sunday.
Great run to start the month @SummerSkier . I'm sorry you felt exhausted yesterday. That is the worst feeling. I'm glad you are doing better this morning.
@martaindale I hope you aren't sore today. It's amazing how much you lose after only 3 weeks off.5 -
I’ll set my August intentional miles at 40.
I took a break due to the heat. I know August will still be crazy humid, but I don’t want to stay away from running for too long. Fall and cooler less humid weather will be here hopefully in about 6-7 weeks.
I hope everyone’s been well!7 -
Good morning! New to the group. Starting off with a goal of 70 miles for the month.
Good luck everyone!7 -

8/1 16.42 miles, Lightening show to North and East
8/2 15.41 miles, watched a storm approach from North and dissipate over me6 -
01.08 4.0km 33min 8:11/km - slow
02.08 6.1km 50min 8:15/km - slow
total 10.06km
This went very well. A few short walking moments to keep my hr in check. Didn't want to run on as I've not run this far for ages. Anyway, very happy.9 -
August Goal: 130 Miles
8/1: 3.53 miles
8/2: 6.05 miles
9.58/130 miles completed for August
It was another tough run this morning. Between the heat and the ragweed pollen I feel like August is going to be a long month. I did run 6 miles. It started out hard and I felt like I was struggling for the first couple of miles, but once I settled in I felt better. I got negative splits, so that always makes me feel like I accomplished something. I also saw this pretty little hummingbird at the park when I stopped for a sip of water.

I’m sticking with the 50 mile goal even though I’d like it to be 60. Still too much family stuff going on so aiming for 50 miles running & 180 miles on my bike & keeping up with the yoga. My husband & I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary yesterday. We went out for dinner & it was lovely.
02/08 4.08 miles
4.08/50 miles5 -
Target: 40 miles/64.3km
2 Aug - 2.28mi/3.73km - knocked 5 secs off my 1 mile PB

@AlphaHowls Glad the storm dissipated before it got to you.
Nice running @yirara .
Great run @kgirlhart . Sorry the beginning was tough, but you ended strong!
Happy Anniversary @mari333a .
Congrats on your PB @AmunahSki !3 -
1 Aug - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Treadmill
2 Aug - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Driveway wun
3.00/60.00 goal
I got up this morning and went out for a driveway wun before heading for work. I did sleep good again, and my sinuses are bothering me, so I didn't feel like running a lot - plus the driveway was wet. Avg pace was 15:05 min/mile. Avg HR was 118 with a max of 140 bpm.
I had intended to either go to the gym or come home and mow mom's lawn after work, if it was dry. It had poured down at work, but hadn't rained yet at mom's, so I came on home. It started raining about 5 min before I got there, so got neither of those done.6 -

Aug total: 8.1/113 miles
YTD: 570.6/1200 miles
Finally on the board for August. I went to the greenway trail for my long run today. We're at the peak of summer here so I keep telling myself that it won't be any worse than it is right now. Just have to survive the next month and a half or so before the edge comes off the heat.
I used all the strategies, even extended a few of my walk breaks by 30 secs to give my HR a little extra time to recover. It was hard but not terrible. I'll take it easy the rest of the day.5 -
Nice run @tarun_yadavA .
Great start to Aug @martaindale .
1 Aug - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Treadmill
2 Aug - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Driveway wun
3 Aug - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 3.41 miles - Treadmill - Push Mowed 20m22s
7.41/60.00 goal
I slept a little bit better, but still not feeling the greatest. I had wanted to run 6.5 miles for my birthday, which is tomorrow, but just didn't have it in me. So, instead, I did a run/walk of 65 minutes. I did 0.25 mile intervals of walking/running. One mile total was at 3.8 mph. The rest was 4.2 - 4.5 and 4.0 mph, with one quarter at 3.9 mph. I don't think I had much more in me this morning. The part that wasn't at 3.8 mph was 49:12 min and 3.41 miles for an avg pace of 14:27 min/mile. Avg HR was 114 with a max of 131 bpm.
Afterwards, I wanted to take a 65 min nap, but instead went down and helped mow my mom's lawn. I did the riding and push mowed for a little over 20 min.
My neighbor is taking us out to dinner tonight for my birthday. I'll post pictures later @tarun_yadavA .
I'm planning to do a 6.5 mile run later in the month, after I get to feeling better.7 -
You're the most energetic 65 yo I know @quilteryoyo 😁 Happy birthday and enjoy your dinner out! 🎉🥳🎂5

Thank you for the welcome back @tarun_yadavA!
Happy Anniversary @Mari33a!
Happy Birthday tomorrow @quilteryoyo! I’m glad I popped back in time to wish you a wonderful 65th!!
2.5 miles on treadmill today. Was housecleaning this morning. Hubby and I didn’t get to the Y until the afternoon when heat index was 95F, so no outside run.

August 2 – 4.82 miles
August 3 – 3.01 miles
Total 7.83 miles/60 miles
I ran 4.82 miles yesterday before work. It was a short work day since I was working from home and our power went off around 1:00 pm. The winds took down a lot of trees including a huge oak tree at my parents house. Power was restored around 10:30 last night. This morning I ran 3 miles out to what I call my dad’s Hobby House. He’s retired and bought this fixer upper just to have something to do. I help him out with minor stuff, primarily painting, sanding, etc. whenever I can. Heading to New River Trail with a friend for a bike ride tomorrow.Happy (belated) Anniversary @Mari33a!
My dad is mowing the lawn behind the tree. Gives you an idea of how big it was.
Happy 65th Birthday @quilteryoyo!
@Scott6255 – This is my second Mediterranean cruise. My first was about 8 years ago. I really enjoyed it. A limiting factor is that you are only in port for a day so that means that you can venture too far out into the countryside. But, on the positive side, you wake up in a different port every day! Planning the excursions is a bit of work if you don’t take one of the excursions that the cruise ship offers which I disklike doing because they are usually mega large groups that go to the typical tourist places instead of off the beaten path. The advantage of the cruise ship excursions is that they will get you back to port on time without fear of missing your departure. It takes a bit of research but there are reputable independent tours out there but you have to do a lot of reading of reviews and their history to make sure that you have an English speaking guide who will deliver on their promises. I’ve never been on an Alaskan cruise, but it’s on my bucket list!

Hello Everyone. I hope all of you are having a great Saturday, thus far.
Well, I got in 4 training, pavement miles this morning with co-worker. Total of 6 miles so far for August. I cannot wait for the cooler temperatures. This summer's humidity has really been tough. Can someone say, Whew? 😥5 -
Thanks @Scott6255 !
Thanks @daria0919 . Nice treadmill run.
Thanks @Teresa502 . Great running. I'm glad the tree was in the middle of the yard and didn't hit anything. I love old houses. I'm glad you and your dad are fixing one up. Have fun with the bike ride tomorrow.
Nice running @steviebee888 . I think we will all be glad for some fall temperatures.

I’m away in Wellington this weekend for the final of the Lexus Songquest, New Zealand’s operatic competition for up and coming stars. Amazing night, with the five contestants each singing three pieces.
This morning I headed out to enjoy a flat fast 14k along the waterfront. Wellington is notoriously windy, and although it wasn’t too bad today, there was definitely a stiff breeze to contend with. Lovely and sunny though, if perishingly cold for my soft self - about 3 degrees celcius plus wind chill which had it feeling about -3.
I followed it up with a rather lovely breakfast of waffles with pear and caramel, and a side of bacon (not pictured).7 -
PS. Happy birthday @quilteryoyo!2

Morning all.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @quilteryoyo 🍻🥳
@ContraryMaryMary Wellington looks nice! On my bucket list for cricket (or rugby) when I go! Basin reserve and the famous Cake tin!
PS: breakfast looks dee-lish!!
@Teresa502 what stops have you got on your cruise in the Med?
(Agreed! 💯 With you on super touristy ones organised by the cruise!)

Thanks @ContraryMaryMary ! Great run and sounds like you are having a fantastic weekend. Enjoy the rest of it! That breakfast looks delicious.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA ! Sorry, but I didn't get a picture of my dinner last night. They were really slow at getting the meal out, so I just dove in before I thought about a picture. LOL We went to the same place last year and it was really good. Not so much this year. It is crossed off of our list of places to go to celebrate. Great run today!
Thanks @kgirlhart !

Happy Birthday @quilteryoyo ! Have a great day.2

Happy Birthday @quilteryoyo 🎉🎁 !
I made a plan to balance strength training with three runs/week in August. My running days are Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
8/2: 4.2 miles
8/4: 4.5 miles for 8.7 miles in August.
Today was a weird run, first, a random person stopped me to take a photo of her and her visitor at the lake. Then I stopped again to watch over a juvenile gull that was attacked by a dog. I checked it out, but couldn’t find any injuries other than being very shaken, so I sat with it until it had mostly composed itself. There are many dogs off leash right now, and I just changed mind about whether that should be allowed.4
