Happy Birthday @quilteryoyo ! 👏👏👏
welcome to the impossible # of flyers emails and annoying medicare "information". Of course you have already been getting those for a year but it does not get better.
Got my longest run since June in yesterday at 7 miles and was not sure if I would be up for more today but my legs have not forgotten me. Goal of 100 and 21.54 for the month.
I am officially ready for a cold front. LOL.5 -
01.08 4.0km 33min 8:11/km - slow

Yay, another good run! My muscle doctor suggested I try a few things, and one of them seems to be working a bit.6 -

Hi everyone!
We got back from France 🇫🇷 last night! It was great, really and I would go back in a heartbeat even though the drive is so long (20 hours to get there, 17 hours back). But honestly, on my run today I kept thinking about how nice it was to be back in my usual running climate! Running in the heat up really large hills narrow streets and some car traffic was not the relaxing stress free run I experience on my usual running routes here through the forest. I am positive there are great places to drive to to run in France around where I was (although I am sure they would all have been just as hot, humid, and hilly), but I really didn’t have too much time to get out the door before we were off the the beach or the like. Since we stayed up late to enjoy the cooler evening temperatures, I kept getting out on my run when the heat was getting very uncomfortable. Positive note, I had the least problems in our group with the heat during our travels, so I think that the heat acclimated from running really helped!
No time to post any pictures today, but my last run I did in France was with my 4 year old. He needed to get out, so I took him until he could run no more. It was very cute. He even randomly stopped to do pushups on the hot asphalt mid run . My 4 and 9 year old wanted to go with me today too, so I took them on a short run after I got back from my 9.5km run. So far that brings me to 11.2 km/270 for August.7 -
Target: 40 miles/64.3km
2 Aug - 2.28mi/3.73km - knocked 5 secs off my 1 mile PB
4 Aug - 3.17mi/5.1km - knocked 63 secs off my 5k PB
Total 5.45mi/8.78km4 -

Aug total: 10.9/113 miles
YTD: 573.4/1200 miles
8/3: 8.1 miles
8/4: 2.8 miles
I opted for the treadmill today so I could sleep in a little. I like having 1 day a week where I don't set an alarm and allow myself to wake naturally. It's nice to not feel the pressure to get out asap.
I did my cooking for the week, some laundry, and a little generally tidying up. Overall a productive but restful Sunday.5 -
August Goal: 130 Miles
8/1: 3.53 miles
8/2: 6.05 miles
8/4: 13.16 miles
22.74/130 miles completed for August
I had a great run today. I ran 13.15 miles. It wasn't terribly hot when I started out. It was 72°F, but in Texas in August, that's pretty pleasant. My weather app said it was 71°F feels like 72° with a dew point of 59°. Strava said it was 72°F, but agreed that the dew point was 59°. I have a goal this year to run 4 half marathon runs. So I decided since it felt so good I would go for it today. It was 7:20 am when I started out. It wasn't too hot and there was just enough breeze to keep it comfortable. I kept my pace pretty easy and took my salt tabs every 30 minutes. I actually felt great. The first hour was almost perfect and the second hour was still very good. Not only was the temperature not too bad, but I had lots of shade to run in. The last 3 miles or so was tougher as the sun started to climb and I didn't have as much shade, but it wasn't terrible. I saw a jackrabbit in the cemetery and a cottontail over near my mother-in-law's house. At just over 10 miles I saw a woman I know watering her yard. So I asked her if I could run through her sprinkler. It felt really good and helped a lot.

Afternoon all.

(Agreed! 💯 With you on super touristy ones organised by the cruise!)
From Rome, we have two days at sea. I wish they had spaced out the sea days so that they aren't b2b. First stop is the Greek isle of Mykonos, then Ephesus, Turkey, back to Greece - Santorini, followed by Athens, then Katakolon, then on to Italy - Sicily one day and Naples the next before returning to Rome. I've visited Rome, Sicily and Naples before but my traveling friend hasn't. This was her year to pick the itinerary.5 -

@Teresa502 that's pretty cool. Some awesome destinations there!
Well ,if you want pizza recommendations and drinking recommendations for Napoli - I'm your guy! Lol5 -
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It was a good, but busy day, so not a lot of relaxing going on....eating on the other hand was not neglected.
@henridw2095 Nice running. I have asked people to take a picture before, but I don't think I would stop someone mid run. You are a good person to sit with the bird until it could fly again. As for off leash dogs, I think it depends on where you are. I live in a very rural area, so most dogs are allowed to be off leash, but the owner needs to know that they aren't vicious if they let them out. I live so far off of the road, that I don't think Tippy ventures down there much and I know she's friendly if she does. I do worry that someone would stop and open the door and she'd jump in as much as she loves to ride. LOL But, if you are in an area where there are a lot of people and dogs, I think a leash should be required for safety of the animal, if nothing else. (Not that you asked for my opinion. )
Great run @SummerSkier ! Hahaha You are so right about all of the "junk" mail. I have wondered recently how all of those people know it's my birthday and how old I am. Does SS and Medicare advertise that?
@yirara I'm glad that you have found something that is helping! Great running.
Nice run @chris_in_cal .
@Laurz9191 I'm so glad that you had a nice trip and love that your 4 and 9 year olds are wanting to run with you.
Congrats on your PBs @AmunahSki !
Sounds like a great plan @martaindale !
Excellent run @kgirlhart ! I'm sure that sprinkler felt good!
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Yes. The plan is for somewhere different next year.
That sounds like a fun trip @Teresa502 .

@Teresa502 sorry to hear about your parents tree..I know a thing or 2 about that ☹️. And thanks for the tips on the Mediterranean cruise!3

Treadmill again today. I opted to do it after work and take advantage of an extra 45 mins of sleep. School starts in a week and a half and any sleeping in stops.
The run felt pretty easy. I have really grown to appreciate how much the treadmill helps me recover during the heat.6 -
I guess I never submitted this post yesterday, so here it is.

It was quite chilly when I headed out this morning - just 6° but sunny. It is a beautiful day for running. Thanks to the cold, I started quite quick and once I got up heartbreak hill I managed to maintain my pace to finish the less than half a minute under my PR for this particular loop. I’m very happy about that. For my efforts, my Garmin tells me I was unproductive and his docked me another VO2 max point so my opinion of it is plummeting furiously, but in truth, I don’t really care what my watch tells me - I had a lovely run!7
-
Awww. Thanks @yirara . Great running.
Thanks @mari333a .
Great running @martaindale . The treadmill does come in handy some days.
Great 5K this morning @kgirlhart .
Glad you had such a nice run @ContraryMaryMary . Nice job on the PR for the loop with heartbreak hill! Yeah. Who cares what Garmin thinks!

Yesterday was a busy one. After church, I went out to lunch with two aunts, mom, and a cousin for my birthday. On the way home, we stopped at another friends house for a visit and to pick up a carrot cake she had made for me. When I got home, I only had a little over an hour before I needed to head out again for church meeting, so I just walked a mile on the treadmill.
Me and mom at Amis Mill Eatery on Friday night - view was nice even if the food and service weren't.
The dam where the mill used to be.
My birthday meal - haystack pasta if what it is called, but it is basically chicken alfredo.
Cheesecake we all split - it is free at the restaurant if it's your birthday.
Me and family
Carrot cake - see the six candles and then the number 5. LOL It works.
Today, I got up and did a driveway run before heading out for a doctor's appointment for me and mom. I am having those darn sinus issues still, so wasn't sure what I could do. I walked 6 min, then did a run/walk of 3/1 min x 4, then wun 9 min (slow enough that I counted it as walking) and walked 6:32 to finish. The run/walk was 15:01 min and 1.13 miles for an avg pace of 13:17 mph. That's not bad for me and the hills. I just didn't have another 3 min run up hills in me. Total avg HR was 134 with a max of 153 bpm.
Medical stuff under the spoiler.
My doctor's appointment went well. All bloodwork is good. No changes. It was the first visit after I started Medicare, so had to answer all those questions and draw a clock showing a time of 11:10. Not sure what they will ask of the generation that doesn't know how to read an analog clock. Also, last week I had another breath test and the H. Pylori is gone! Yeah. No more antibiotics for that! So, 65 is starting out on a good note.5 -
Morning all
Got in 5.85 at 09"48.
Just struggling getting motivated at the moment.
Loving the birthday pics @quilteryoyo
Double for the cheesecake 😋3 -
oh no! @quilteryoyo my dr has not asked me to draw a clock at a certain time yet but I guess that's a good test. I am sure he will next year... LOL. Glad you are doing well!!!!!2
-
@quilteryoyo Happy belated birthday! It looks like you had a great time.
Yesterday I got in a 10.3km progressive run, with the last 20 minutes at a faster pace. Today I got in a 10.3km run with 10x 1 minute farleks at ca. 5km race pace. Both runs were really nice. The only disturbing thing on my run today was running past a drunk at the beginning of the run who couldn't even stand enough to get his bike upright and then running past him again laying in the grass next to the road still with his bike an hour and ca. 50 meters down the road later.....
31.8/270km for August.

You are so good to keep getting out there and getting it done, even when you aren't feeling it @tarun_yadavA . I hope you get your mojo back soon. I must say, that cheesecake was sooooo delicious.
I'm surprised @SummerSkier . I thought it was just a thing that Medicare required on the first visit, and every year after, once you turn 65. It was called the "Welcome to Medicare" questionnaire. Lots of questions about how well you get along at home and if you need help cooking, cleaning, dressing, bathing, walking, etc.
Thanks @Laurz9191 . Great job on both runs! I would not like having to run past that person. I hope he sobers up and is okay.

Hmmm…. Thanks for the heads up on the Medicare questionnaire @quilteryoyo! I guess I better start studying!!! 😂. 65 here I come! Do you have an answer key?? 😆. My card is in the mail as we type.
Glad you had a wonderful birthday weekend! You look great in the photos5 -

August 6 – 5.49 miles
Total 13.32 miles/60 miles
On Sunday we rode over 40 miles on the New River Trail so I gave my legs a rest day yesterday. They were tired! Instead of running, I did an upper body workout in the morning and walked 1.6 miles at lunch. This morning I ran almost 5 ½ miles before working for a few minutes and am currently sitting in the dermatologist office waiting for my mom to finish up her appointment.
@tarun_yadavA – Our planned excursion in Napoli is only 4 hours and we’re in port for 12 so yes, any recommendations would be wonderful! Feel free to drop any recommendations in an email so that we don’t bore the rest of our running community! As far as struggling with running mojo, maybe you need another marathon to train for – that would take up at least a week based on the "Tarun Training Model"!
Great PR @ContraryMaryMary!
@quilteryoyo – Sorry your birthday dinner wasn’t up to par. I haven’t been to Amis Mill in a few years. I wasn’t even sure they served dinner anymore. Have you ever ran the Amis Mill 10K? It’s part of a series that Mark Skeleton sponsors. The race starts and ends there at the mill and typically they have a big breakfast there afterwards. The carrot cake and cheesecake look delicious! Lovely family photos too! Glad you got good results with your doctor’s appointment – the best birthday gift!
Now that was drunk @Laurz9191!
