My week โฆ

Good Friday!
Lanette- I like Lisa's idea, but also flip your seat up to inspect seat mounts/brackets. If this just started it tells me something broke.
Showers/baths-I haven't taken a bath since my late 20's. A year of low dose antibiotics for UTI's. Doctor said if I wanted a bath then I had to take a shower to get clean, clean out the bathtub, then I could soak. Just seemed like too much trouble. In the Philippines, we were discouraged from baths due to water conditions. Both my girls were born there and have always showered. I am more like the majority here. I don't NEED a shower daily. Will take one if needed. DH doesn't function until he gets one. I do believe in cleaning the 3 "P"'s daily. Piggers, Pits, and ๐ธ.
Rita- Thank you! They have the best personalities and usually calm me down.
Machka- You amaze me. I need just a little of your energy. I always feel like I am walking a fine line between having DH do things and just doing them myself because it is easier! I am apparently a slow learner since it has been over 30 years since his eye accident. I do know his limited vision is getting worse. I too figure i will be working past 67 (another 5 years). I just don't want to work as much! I have felt the way your cat posts are this week!
Carol- AC yet? I know the temperatures have been "spicey" here.
Annie- Why not take a fresh fruit bowl or tray with yogurt dip? Maybe make yourself an egg or two before going over. That would ensure that you are not starving and have some protein to counter the carbs. Then you can make necessary adjustments.ie more movement and/or smaller portions.
CPAP- The at home sleep study was fine. It showed I have mild apnea. I have always snored and am a tooth grinder. With the NSVT, they highly encouraged the CPAP. Like Michele, mine is overhead with a cushion under nose. I was thinking about it yesterday...I have had less intense migraines since I have started on CPAP. Do I have more energy and feel refreshed when I wake up- NOPE. As a matter of fact, I really need a nap in the afternoon these days (not that I get one). But if CPAP, no pork, and no turkey equals less intense migraines, I will keep wearing.
Allie- My DOD was tested for ADHD. She is OCD with a little ADHD. She told me she is sure I have it. That would explain my squirrels in my head. Not sure what they do for it at my age, but might ask.
My anxiety was awful yesterday! I couldn't quiet the brain for more than 30 seconds at a time. There was a lot of self talking out loud to try and stay focused. Was munchy all day! Logged everything. Drank water before eating. Couldn't get 15k steps but did get 10k worh over 30 active minutes. Proud of that the way I felt. I already have 6k this morning. Enjoying the birds and the sun coming up behind the trees.
Last nights evening walk provided beautiful sunset.
Need to get ready for work.
I am blessed to be part of this village of strong and resilient women!

Rosemarie - I am thinking you might have fun on cruise. I could probably share a cabin if there were some basic rules/considerations. Like loud noises and bright lights. Earplugs, book light, and mini fan would go with me.

Kylia - Well said, and I second the emotion:
I am blessed to be part of this village of strong and resilient women!
Machka - Thank you. Your comment really made me feel better. I honestly prefer NOT to fight the medicos at every step, but I won't allow them to sidestep what I know to be true about my health for the sake of yet another test.
Sitting here dripping into the towel that I've got slung over my chair. Ran the battery to zero on my walk-behind mower getting the ditches out front mowed. Taking a break now and letting the sun get up a little higher to let some of the dew dry before I get out there and get the major mowing done.
Had to mow the ditches while the grass was still wet using the walk-behind (it's self-propelled, so I can't call it a "push mower" ! ) and peeled so much wet grass off during and after. Unfortunately, though, that kind of effort can't be accomplished at hotter temperatures. I can sit on the big zero turn and mow, but can't walk behind the little one once it gets hot.
Balancing acts, tight-ropes, teeter-totters. My life these days. Not cranky about it, just realistic. Glad my orthotics fit in my rubber boots! ๐ฆ๐ฅพ๐ง

Pleased with self. I did get myself out of the door and off to the Asian shop. I took my 'Paris' shopping trolley. Better than calling it an old lady shopper. In France everyone uses them to go to market!
i bought a couple of Dim Sum packets and a big pack of Chinese pancakes. Then I went over to the bakery for focaccia. Then Breton cider from the off licence. Had a long discussion about the increased price. Nice to chat. I also treated myself to flowers. :-) They were kind enough to wire the gerberas for me. I haven't had that done before.
I did also buy some white chrysanthemums for the living room hearth.
Waiting for an Amazon delivery of some trousers. Smart 'travel trousers '. That is, they look smart but are v soft and comfortable. If they aren't perfect for me, I will return them.

Terri - love your Calla lilies. Some of my favourite flowers. I've got some artificial ones which aren't too bad. I gave them a bit of a spruce up with ink pens and they looked better. I wanted them in my bridal bouquet, in 1970, but didn't give the florist the right name. :-() I ended up with Madonna lilies instead. Perfectly fine, but not what I had envisioned.

Work in progress. Meadow going. :-( It was a joy while it lasted.
The trousers are ever so slightly snug, but very wearable. I won't send them back. They are eminently 'nappable' in, which is my criterion. :-)

Day 4 of no AC! Thank God that we have overhead fans in almost every room we use. We have two estimates today for repairs/replacement. It will probably be one more night with no air and that's what I hate. Strange because I grew up in middle Georgia and we had no AC in our house. I guess as a child I got used to it.
Annie ~ Congrats on your weight loss. It's good that your father is agreeable to do the stair climbing with you. Kylia's suggestion of taking fresh fruit and a dip sounds like a workable idea.
Kylia ~ The land around your home always looks lovely. Thanks for the photographs (especially the sun rises).
Heather ~ Your mowed lawn looks great. Also, your lovely flowers.
Machka ~ The book I was reading by Sandra Brown was The Witness. I finished it and am now reading a mystery The Uninvited by Nadija Mujagic. It is difficult to put down.
Lisa ~ Happy Anniversary! Loved the Facebook photo of you and Corey.

Annie I am getting together with a friend on Saturday at DS house. It is half way between our two houses. I suggested the take Chinese close to son's. I love the owner. She just returned from a trip to China and after eating authentic Chinese food that is not so full of salt she wants to bring her own lunch and I will bring mine. She no longer wants to eat American Chinese. Both of us are working towards eating lots of veggies and healthier. We can pick fresh Strawberries for dessert. I will bring the Hu dark chocolate that does not have emulsifiers. I know when I go to a pot luck I bring a dish I know is on my diet plan. Last time I brought a berry salad with pecans. I figured that was a meal in itself if need be.
So perhaps instead of bringing doughnuts figure on a dish egg, yogurt, fruit that would be in your diet plan.
The stainer of windows was here last couple of days. Today they come to put in smoke detectors, do the adjustments, and the inspector hopefully.
Then window coverings go back up on some of the windowsโฆI am thinking of leaving the kitchen without. I am enjoying the full view of my garden. It does get bright in the afternoon. I figure this will be my breakfast, lunch space and the dining room where it is not so bright will be my dinner space. The handyman who will help me get window coverings back up will also fix my front storm door and install a new storm door in the back.
I am also still waiting on tree service to remove all the brush in the back and some more pruning.
I will be glad when these things are all done. My home needs maintenance and care just like me I am going to live here for the next 10-15 years. I am doing this rather than moving which would be even more stressful for me. The window replacement was a 7/10 and the staining a 3/10. So I have decided I will not replace all the windows just too expensive and stressful.
(((Carol ))) Heat is harder on us as we age. Sending cool thoughts. When I work in no AC taking a cool cloth and wrapping it around my neck helped some too!

Feeling better today. Treating myself according to my research seems to be working. I see my gastroenterologist in August. Just trying to make it until then so I don't need to make another appointment. Too many doctors already. (and medications!).
I wish DH would learn to shop for the week rather than the month. We would most likely save money and toss less food that has spoiled. More fresh produce could be included as well.

Good morning ladies!
I had a "social" night out last evening, much to Rosie's dismay. T and I went to a gathering at a former co-workers' house ( we worked with both of them-married couple), so I already knew several people there - there were probably 30 in attendance. They provided the fixings for tacos, drinks, snacks and dessert. Every 3rd Thursday during the summer, they host a get-together with retired friends to keep up social connections and just give everyone the opportunity to visit. How nice is that?? Unless the weather is too hot, T and I plan to keep going. T was a brat and kept pointing out older single guys for me, lol. These fellows worked for the road department so were good with shovels and driving dump trucks so that's an attractive feature in my eyes, lol. The food was delish but a lot saltier than I'm used to eating so I feel like the Sta-Puft marshmallow man this morning.
I can tell it was good for me to get out and socialize a bit. It really was the perfect social situation - nothing structured or scheduled, arrive and leave when it suits. Super casual dress, a slight step up from my lawn mowing/gardening outfit.
Kylia - thank you, I will inspect the underpinnings of that mower seat. It will should dry off enough tomorrow that I can get back on the mower so I can try out Lisa's idea. How long can these zero turn mowers be expected to last? My Toro is now 8 years old and has been through a lot - my lawn is full of ruts and bumps and now with the minefield under the powerline, it's getting a workout. My friend Charlie thinks it can keep going since he replaced the pulley that had the noisy bearing. I guess as long as I have friends and neighbors willing to work on it for just the cost of parts, it's practical to keep it unless there's something major. I would love to have a lovely green level lawn like yours to mow! Your place is so beautiful, thank you for the gorgeous pictures. Brings back good memories.
I read somewhere that if a person crosses their hands and presses them on their chest over their heart for a few minutes, it mimics a hug and calms a person down. I don't know if it works but I like that idea and will give it a try.
Heather - your son looks so happy, nice that he and his partner get along so well and are now freed up to take some trips without having to worry about caring for a dog. Love hearing about your shopping ventures out to buy Dim Sum and bread. Rising food prices seem to be a world-wide problem. Your meadow looks like the one I'm attacking under the power line x 100, lol. So far I don't think I've mowed any baby rabbits but I know I went over a nest - fur flying all over.
Carol - I bet the AC repairman is really busy these days, and glad you at least have estimates for repair/ replacement.
Terri - lovely flowers - glad cooler weather has returned for you.
Margaret - what a great view out of that window. Your bring-your-own lunch sounds ideal.
Lisa - I admire your stamina with that self propelled/push mower. And like Machka too, our interactions with the medical professionals where we have more input. I can now find out so much about my medical problems with AI that I come see Dr. Lisa equipped with a lot of knowledge whether she likes it or not, lol. She respects my choices.
Rori - glad the cardiologist is on top of your heart situation. It will be interesting to see what the sleep apnea test shows. You next visit with N sounds very exciting!
Debbie and Rebecca - I had never heard of Furikake although I've probably eaten it. Sounds like something I'd like to try. It's probably only sold in Asian stores? Something for my grocery bucket list along with Heather's Zaatar spice. ๐
Sue - I haven't watched that program yet but it's on the list, thanks for the reminder. Years ago I ran across a special nipple for feeding bummer lambs. (For those who don't know, bummer lambs are lambs that need to be bottle fed since mothers are unable to produce milk for some reason. Lambs might be orphans, a triplet or sometimes first time mother who just won't allow the lamb to nurse.) I had a pal in the UK who raised a lot of sheep and the nipple worked so well I decided to surprise her and sent her one. She got back to me with "thanks" but the UK was where those nipples were invented, so she was familiar with them.
Annie - good job on the continued weight loss, you are definitely heading in the right direction. Hope your foot is all healed up soon and you can get back to the activities you enjoy. And hope you can get that eye thing checked out today. Sty?
Fresh fruit - Now that it's fresh fruit season, I'm stocking up. I bought several pounds of cherries that I'm going to freeze, pit in, since I only eat a few for snacks and don't mind messing with it. I have a cherry pitter but it makes a huge mess and there's juice all over. I freeze most small fruits IQF (Individually quick frozen) like that. Blueberries will be starting up in a week or two, and I think local strawberries might be ending- still hope to get a few. The rain might have ended the season.
Showers - I'm a showers only person, haven't taken a bath in decades. These days getting in and out of a tub takes too much effort. Hot tubs, pools, bathtubs - too drying on my skin plus irritating to my lady parts to be immersed in water like that. I like to wash my hair in the shower anyhow so this works for me.
OK, time to end this epistle. Plan to run around this morning and hit the fruit stand and feed store, maybe the thrift shop and drop off a few things. I normally take a bag of canned good for their little food bank but realized my own stocks are getting low.
Make it a super day! ๐

๐ I have so many luxuries and conveniences that I didn't have a young person. Now that I have them, I can't stand the idea of being without them. Among them are air conditioning, power lawn mower, more than one bathroom in a house with more than one person, dishwasher, microwave, electric garage door opener, tv, and all the electronic gadgets. For most of my childhood we lived in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Southern California with no air-conditioning and only a small space heater for the few chilly winter days. It's one of the variations of hedonistic adaptation.

Rori-Yes. Iโll do the bridge walk, zip line with you. I love zip lines.
Gloomy day here. I hope it clears up.
The mister is brewing today for the first time in months. Hopefully it wonโt be too painful. Thereโs a lot of standing involved.
Annie-Donโt deprive yourself at your friendโs. Take a protein (maybe a yogurt parfait, hard boiled eggs) and just nibble. I like the taster flight strategy. I get to taste what I want without going overboard.Have a great weekend.

Tina - Corey brews beer, tooโฆ I honestly love the smell of brewing beer, which neither one of us expected, but am still utterly uninterested in drinking it! Just tastes bitter and skunky to me, matters not what type or brand.
Lanette - I'm finding I can push myself a little further each time I'm out in the heat. I'm acclimating, I guess. And Egg no longer feels she has to perch on me every time I walk in, so I know I'm not throwing off distress signals. However, between the two rounds of mowing, had to wash up and completely change clothes after a mild fumble with the gas can left the smell of gas on my shirt, pants and hands. The smell gives me a headacheโฆ but it subsided after I changed. Was able to get the tank full on the zero-turn mower, get the one tire aired up with Corey's little compressor, and get out there and mow the entire yard, including the old lawn area of the little house, in two hours. I am also covered with dirt and bits of dry, blown grass stuck to every surface. And every orifice, too, I think. Dirt in my teeth even. Just a few quick turns into the wind! Ah well. It will wash.
Speaking of which, time to get that shower in. I've had to take one every day this week, and my skin is starting to dry out, but it's necessary so ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ oh well.
Then a whole bunch of sweaty, gasoline smelling, dirty work clothes into the laundry.
Later, y'all,

I took some notes and will finish reading in a couple of hours! Hope everyone is well!
My son just told me that it is impressive how independent I am getting with managing my yard. With the heat it can be overwhelming! I stopped the yard service and don't regret this! And it freed up some money to purchase a pallet of sod which seems to be doing well!
I have to find out how long it will be before the sod takes root into the ground. The sod itself is very green!
I asked a company who has previously cut my grass when asked with out a contract. I usually paid 85 dollars to have the yard cut with edging and picking up tree debris. And cleaning the roadside gutter. What I wanted was to pay 60 dollars just to have the back cut and have 3 hedges by the garage trimmed. They are over my head!
He told me it would need to be 65 dollars. I told him I could not do 65 dollars. He would not accept 60 so I thanked him and immediately went to Walmart and ordered a battery charged hedge trimmer for 70 dollars. i hope it is durable enough. I will have my son cut the hedges back so they are at my height. Then I will do the hedges.
And with the heat and all else I want to do, I decided I would cut the grass in the early evening and pay a dog walker to walk the dog, so he can be potty trained. I will have the dog walker just 1x a week but that will be the day i work on the yard. At 6 pm. And the dog will love having another person in his life!
I watched a seminar that said budgeting was about having the head, heart and hand aligned. I know my hand can do this landscaping. I just need to get my head into it!
For me, using the Pick-up services is very cost effective. I order the food on lineโฆcan see the prices and stay within a set amount. The software at each store keeps track of my purchases. I eat much less processed food, many more veggies. I do spend money on fish. I will eat meat when I go to a restaurant which is pretty rare! I do go to Starbucks/DD and McDonalds but stay under $10.00. I will purchase a salad from Ingles. They have a nice salad bar!
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

Todays lunch is a nice berry and blue cheese salad with nuts and buttermilk dressing. Then a shake.
Dinner is a couple of crab and lobster raviolis tossed in a nice sauce. I will melt butter add lemon juice, flour, milk and pepper and see what happens. Oh and sprinkle with some rugged aged smoky cheddar from Ford Farms in Dorchester England.๐ค๐ I will take a photo.๐
Yesterday chatted with eldest sister. She asked me if I wanted to join her in visiting our cousin in Arizona in October. Need to check finances but I love the idea of lying on a lounge chair in 90' temps in October! I would take a train down, then we would travel to Corvallis and take a flight from there. She wants to fly into Las Vegas which I have never been to! We might stay overnight there, see some things then cousin would come pick us up from where she lives in Lake Havaseu.

I'm amazed at all of you who do this 'yard work'. I can't imagine doing it. I just simply wouldn't do it. Couldn't do it. I hate maintenance jobs of any kind. My mother used to say, "I don't keep a dog and bark myself." Of course, if you live alone, I guess it's different, but I would be hiring a muscular young man. :-) I love watching people working for me. One of life's great pleasures. Plus I don't like manicured gardens. The wilder and more luxurious, the better. Of course, we don't have poisonous snakes here, or dangerous animals. We need as much wildness as we can get in the UK. The fashion in the UK at the moment is overgrown and jungly!
Our meal tonight was fabulous. I'm always a bit nervous cooking liver, because it has to be exactly 'a point'. I got this one exactly right. With cauliflower mash.
Love Heather who has zero pioneer spirit, from the UK. Xxxxxxxx

Also count me in on the bridge walk/zip line. Love zip lines, and while bridges make me nervous (especially the ones in Portland which seem to me to need critical maintenance), I will cross them, even swinging bridges.
My daughter was "pinned" with her badge for the fire department this morning as a paramedic. I'm so proud of how far she has come.

This is the brand we usually buy but have used many others- we have so many Asian stores around- love trying new ones when they are on sale.
You may be surprised but you may find it at your local grocery store- I know our Safeway and FoodMaxx have it. Even our Walmart has it.
I like it on steamed veggies. Have to have it if we are having rice.2 -
I have the tea latte version of that drink- It isn't bad. Got them at Grocery outlet for $1.99 a four pack- bought two packs.
I posted before seeing your post about the furikake- we buy the same one most of the time. Change up flavors but same brand.
