Yep there's really only one brand at the commissary so pickers can't be choosers. My youngest son bought a rice cooker when he was in Cuba when he was stationed there. He heard about furikake, so he ordered some thru Amazon. Actually it was a pack of about 6 containers worth! He finally realized all had Nori seaweed which he is not fond of. The goober! He just gave them away when he transferred.

Barbie in NW WA,
I am with you feeling grateful! I dealt with the "lean years" with kids, making Kool aide and filling up empty water bottles with it for their school lunch drinks. They ate the big bags of cereals which they thought were special. Little did they know it was because they were cheaper than the boxes.🙃
Today while figuring out my food for the day, I felt grateful that I can buy the foods I eat today. Expensive cheeses, protein drinks, and special things like the crab and lobster ravioli I am fixing today. I choose what I want. Not just buying as much food as $20 could buy me at Fred Meyers when we lived at the Oregon coast. There's a certain feeling of "I've arrived" at a quality of life that suits me. And with that feeling comes contentment.💖🙏👍.

The chai tea lattes are better than the coffee ones. I am still experimenting with different flavors of things. I had bought Fair Life chocolate shake which does pack 30 grams of protein, but Joko Molk' also has 30 grams, as well as Pure Protein complete shake. There's lots of options for someone that doesn't want to mess with a blender.

Lisa - Happy Anniversary! 😍 Gorgeous photo. I wouldn't mind seeing you in that beautiful dress again.😉
Debbie-Rebecca - I see my local Walmart has the Furikake! So far no luck finding any Zaatar seasoning at Walmart. I'll check Safeway. Not much of a Middle Eastern population around here but I'll bet larger cities have it. I see it on Amazon.
Heather - Most of the gals I know are like you, and they have husbands that do all of the outside manicured lawn tasks. I keep my front lawn mowed just enough to keep the neighbors happy, though most of them don't care and live and let live. My backyard is a jungle, an animal habitat and a science experiment and the only reason I mow it is to keep the weeds down. I overseed with grass and clover as much as I can to keep the wild blackberries and thistles under control. I left a section unmowed in the back near the powerline where I seeded with Yarrow several years ago and it's now blooming, hopefully it will go to see and spread. This morning, a doe with twin fawns - probably a couple weeks old (still with spots but fading) jumped over the fence into the back yard. The fawns were still too young to make the 4' leap. I let Rosie out to chase the doe back over with her babies. The fawns ended up curling up under Roger's blueberry bushes while mom went off somewhere to graze. It's still wild kingdom, lol. How lucky I am.
Kylia - I tipped the mower seat forward - brackets and springs look OK. I had forgotten there's a "kill switch" in the seat so if I would get tipped off it would stop. Looks good and still hooked up.
Picked up Rainier cherries (they are yellow with pink blush) at the produce stand this morning then zipped down to the feed place and loaded up for the girls. On the way back I stopped at a little rural grocery - it's owned by the guy who has the feed place. He's a blonde with gorgeous blue eyes lol. And young enough to be my son. It's always fun to stop in there and see him smile. He has gasoline pumps with non-ethanol gas. It's hard to find around here so I'll get some this fall to put in the mower over winter.
Mrs. Roger turned 74 today. I told her "congrats on level 74" - sounds like an achievement, and maybe it is. 😁 Saw this on FB a while back.
Lanette 😎

UPDATE - I just spotted a doe in the back yard again grazing on the fireweed. I better head out and see where the fawns are… if they are hers.
ANOTHER UPDATE - fawns are still laying under the blueberry bushes over at Roger's.

Carol - I would be so miserable! Hope they're getting your air fixed soon…
Heather, dear heart - From my earliest memory, it was "I do it," for everything! I never wanted anyone doing anything for me. I was reading by 3, and had "My First Cookbook" and was baking and cooking by the time I was 5. It wasn't a world where girls got to "do it," not really, as I know you remember. But wherever I could, I did. Always. First girl to go into vocational agriculture in school (and also did the girlie home economics!). First in my generation of my family to go in the armed forces. First in my family to get a degree. Still saying "I do it" I guess.
And, to bring it to its most absurd level, nothing is more serially satisfying in terms of jobs around the house than mowing—which has instant gratification built in. None of my paid positions and very few of the jobs in maintaining a home have the intrinsic ability to know exactly where you've been, what still needs doing, and be able to finish, knowing the job is DONE.
Unlike laundry, which is never done. 🧺 Ever. 🤣
And I wouldn't know style in landscaping (or clothing) if it bit me on my left ankle. 😂 I do what I think is beautiful where I can, and it's very much of my time and culture. It is how I feel most at home. I like looking at stylish landscapes and stylish clothes, just don't need to have them for myself.
Got in a nap in after the shower… the man is on his way home, and asked for taquitos and steak fries in the air fryer for dinner. He said last night (a sub sandwich with lots of veggies for him) was just too healthy! 🤷🏼♀️😂 He makes me laugh every day.
Love y'all,

We scheduled a house/pet sitter for when we go to Vegas from July 7-11 I think. We will be driving there. He wants to take me to decompress from the loss of yogi. Fist we are going to pismo for 3 days, which will be hard because it will be the first time without him, then to Vegas, then we will go back to Pismo for a week. I am sorting through all the pics of yogi so I can keep a pic at the trailer, then another for Kirby’s bedside pic, I will put Rocky’s pic on my side, then another collage for the living room.
It’s hard to find a frame that I like (dog themed)

I was NOT fond of nori when dh and I started dating- had never had it- only seaweed I had seen before that was at the beach!! It actually gave me a stomach ache really bad when I ate it. Now, I eat the snack kinds a few packs at a time. I love furikake. The only seaweed I haven't tried and dh loves looks like black tar paste- Don't know what it is called off hand. He loves it on his rice. One day I may try it but for now, I will stick with furikake

Lisa- were you in FFA? 4H?
I LOVED Ag. Science in high school. I took four years of it. Teacher was so much fun. Only kind of science I ever took- never took biology/chemistry, etc.
Third year was viticulture- we learned all about grapes- went out and pruned vines in the winter, made wine in the class in the fall. We were supposed to all get together when we turned 21 to try it. I don't think it turned out or someone else drank it.
I can't remember what the other three years were. That was a long time ago- we are having our 45yr class reunion in 3 months.Debbie

❤️ Today it has been six months since Jake died. I'm not much for special dates but today I realized that after six months, Annie can entertain herself most of the hour that my friend and I dance on Fridays and the hour I host a meeting on Zoom (on camera with microphone live) several days a week. Those are important changes for us because the dancing and Zoom meetings are so important to my well being.
😀 One of my secrets of adulthood is that what's fun for other people may not be fun for me and vice versa. There are so many things that I love doing that other people wouldn't do for love or money and things that others do that don't appeal to me.

Worked then had to come home to let Ganon out and give him his breakfast. Went to Food Lion to get Vince gatorade since it’s on sale plus there is a store coupon. I’ll probably stop on my way home tomorrow, too. Then the soup kitchen. Just had sandwiches today, but boy did they look good. Did get some tomatoes to take home. They’d been cut and they wouldn’t last until Mon so I got some. They also gave me a case of blueberries, said they didn’t go well at all. What is wrong with some of these people? Last week I got some GOOOOOODDDD apples, this week I’m getting blueberries. Made raisin spice cookies to give to Colby along with a piece of the apple cake. I’ll make chocolate chip cookies tomorrow (but I’ll use mini M&M’s) for Jess and Vince. Went to WalMart. Took Ganon for a SHORT walk just around the cul-de-sac. Too hot for a walk around the block. That is a good way to get in my steps. Fortunately, I was in the dining room at the soup kitchen today so I was walking back and forth from the kitchen into the dining room so I got some good steps in there.
Rori – that’s why we love Chewy. They’re not that expensive(Amazon is twice the price) and they put the litter right into the garage for us. I can tell you why your ventricle is enlarged. It’s because you have such a big heart. I never did the sleep apnea profile online. Wish I could help.
Annie – great weight loss. I didn’t find any difference in anything when I started using a CPAP. Wish I would lose weight….oh well
Margaret – I’ve always wished there was some way to take something to a restaurant that would sock up all (or at least most)of the salt. So many things are so salty. I notice it mostly because I rarely use salt in things.
Carol – I bought this fan for Vince to wear when he cuts the grass. You put it around your neck. The tractor is another story for kylia
kylia – here’s the situation. I don’t know if you know of any solution. We have a Murray tractor. Well, it seems that Murray has gone bankrupt. In the meantime, part of the mower deck, literally, came apart. You can put a finger thru it. No place will do warranty work for them. That’s understandable. One place that did warranty work for them will install the deck as long as we pay (yes, it is under warranty – but that is a moot point). Seems there’s one place you can get the deck from and they are out of stock(wonderful). Vince has sent pictures etc to the manufacturer, but I don’t know if they’re going to do anything. What would you suggest? The one place that will install a new deck (if we get it)will weld the metal together if we want to. I’m thinking that that’s what we’ll need to do at least to get us thru this summer. In the meantime, we’ve been having the landscaper who cuts a lot of yards in this neighborhood (he’s really a nice guy and will do practically anything for you if he can. Sometimes it just takes awhile) cutting where we used the tractor, just on the big parts.
Rosemarie – thanks for telling me that you paid $85 to have your yard cut. We were thinking that that guy who is cutting the grass may have to do it multiple times. I asked him for a quote as to how much it would be to have him do it all the time. Just the large parts. We’d use the self propelled/walk behind and do that weed trimming. So at least now I have somewhat of an idea of what I’m probably looking at. Our Monday bowling celebrates the birthdays once every 2 months and the gal gets a cake from Ingles. They are real good
Flea – congrats to your daughter
I enjoy mowing. Not only do I get steps in, but it’s sort-of like “me” time, just the sound of the engine and my thoughts.

Bridges and MRIs don't bother me at all. I love taking people to the Royal Gorge bridge Lisa hates:
I'm looking for partners who would be interested in walking the bridge then taking the zipline back.Rori - Despite the fact that I'm not keen on bridges, I'd do it! And especially the zipline!! I like to push the boundaries of whatever I fear and trying new things. One of the reasons I'm learning to swim.
That said, if you asked me to crawl on my stomach through a cave system, that would still be a big NO.
Showers/baths-I haven't taken a bath since my late 20's. A year of low dose antibiotics for UTI's. Doctor said if I wanted a bath then I had to take a shower to get clean, clean out the bathtub, then I could soak. Just seemed like too much trouble.
Kylie - I was warned off baths for the same sort of reason, and if I wanted to take a bath, I've been advised to have a quick shower before, take the bath, then have a decent shower after … kind of like what we do when we go swimming.
The few occasions I have had a bath, I've done that and I've never had a UTI. But it is a lot of trouble.
Once in a while, I think that a soak in a bath might be nice after a long, cold bicycle ride, but I usually decide that a hot shower and wrapping myself in blankets will be easier.
Carol - I thought that would be the Sandra Brown book you were reading. It's not one of my favourites. I might have to check out the other book!
Regarding the heat, I remember what I was told by a Lebanese man a long time ago … he said that the way he got through the nights in Lebanon without air conditioning was to soak a bed sheet in water and lay it over him with the overhead fan blowing. The fan would blow on the sheet and dry it, but while it was still damp, it provided some extra cooling. Then he'd get up in the middle of the night and soak the sheet again, and repeat.
We cyclists sometimes use a similar method to keep our water slightly cool on very hot days. We put our bottles into cotton socks and soak the socks. The moving air, while cycling, will evaporate the water out of the sock, but there's a cooling effect.
Lisa - beautiful picture. Happy Anniversary!
I was raised to be independent too and I've always been stubborn/tenacious along with a desire to learn how to do things.
Heather - I find working in the garden relaxing. It's one of the reasons I don't like the short daylight hours … I don't get to spend as much time in the garden! For me, the plants are all right, but I especially like digging and working with the soil and rocks - the landscaping side of things.
We are trying to get rid of all/most of our grass in favour of having a useful garden with fruit and veg and a decorative garden that's bee friendly.
Flea - congrats to your daughter!
We are without a vehicle this weekend, and that's OK. Seems the camshaft solenoid needs replacing in our van.

Machka - I so want to do that glass skywalk. My DH refused to do it with me. He is not up to heights.
I just read my first Karin Slaughter it was her first book published again for its 20th anniversary. I don’t know if I’ll read another of hers.
I can’t remember the title of the first Sandra Brown book I read but it was about a killer that was killing people that had heart transplants. That book has stuck with me for years.
Annie - The health authority here did a study for 10 Years that included adding Vit D levels to any bloodwork. It was found that in the whole province everyone should be taking a minimum of 3000 per day, but most people were needing 5000. I take 3000 per day, but think I need to up it for a while again.
Allie - I wouldn’t imagine Kyle is very happy. He hasn’t had patience for the three he has.
Lisa - I don’t like potato salad either, but absolutely love potatoes.
Heather - it will be wonderful to have a visit with your son and his partner.
Annie - Lauryn told me that maybe the reason that Michaela left the little bit of ice cream was because I had told her two scoops so that may have been more than the two. 🤷♀️
Showers/baths - I have a bath almost every night I don’t miss more than a couple a week. I don’t on ceramics nights and lately Friday nights because Jonah is here.
I do not like showers unless they are very big and spacious. I’ll suffer through one if I have no choice, but it’s not routine for me at all.We don’t eat leftovers either really, but I’ve learned to cook without much waste because of it.
Lisa - I think we have to advocate for our own health and you do it so well.
Those thoughts sure can mess with our sleep.Machka - I’ll join you in the finally Friday!
I was supposed to be off until Wednesday, but will go in on Monday to do an admission, about an hour.
I was hoping to catch up this evening but the bed is calling my name. I’ll finish in the morning.

My son and DIL are in San Francisco for a wedding. They sent me a video of themselves in a driverless car. They were in the back seat. There was audio in the car telling them to wear their seatbelts and there were cameras in the car to observe the riders to further research how best to bring driver less cars to the public.
My heart went to my feet when i saw the video. Yet I will probably be riding in one of these myself.
Debbie: You are near San Francisco. Have you ridden in one of these vehicles? Has anyone ridden in one?
Best,

Today's exercise … a lovely bicycle ride on a sunny (but cold) winter day.
Plus 1.5 loads of laundry washed and hung to dry. There's a suggestion of rain tonight but that's OK, the clothes will get an extra rinse.
I also cleared weeds for an hour or so.

Good Saturday!
Rita- Great job on doing your research.
Love the flower pictures! My cone flowers and hostas are blooming. I love lilies, irises, and orchids. I like the really vibrant colors. My beds need weeded again. Not this weekend.
Lanette- 10-15 years is
general lifespan of a Toro, if not longer. A Doe will often park her young where she feel they are safe while she feeds. Sometimes they can be gone for hours. Trust me, Momma is within hearing range! We had a doe that is to park her fawn on my MIL's front porch. SIL has a dog, so that doesn't happen anymore. The fans won't move until momma comes back, usually. They are still quite young right now.
Lisa- Happy Anniversary! As beautiful as ever!
Flea- Such a proud mom moment! Congratulations to your daughter!
Rosemarie- I am proud of how far you have come! Great job on making your yard doable for you.
Margaret- You are doing great getting your place set for your future self. I don't have window coverings on my kitchen window. For a couple of months it is really bright cooking supper, but not covering the view.
Rebecca- Look at you Miss Traveler! ;)
Machka- My personal hot tub doesn't seem to bother me but "public" ones.....I treat like I just had relations....pee and shower (after I get out) 😅
Michele- In order to do warranty work you have to be a dealer. Unfortunately the decision many companies made to partner with mass merchants has been detrimental for the companies. We don't work on brands we don't sell due to getting parts and having the knowledge. MT suggestion would be to have someone weld it. Average life of a Murray mower is only 3-5 years. They were built yo sell cheap, not last. Sorry.
Much more to say, but must get ready for work.
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio

Good morning my friends!
Well, today my scale seems wonky so I didn't record it. So the 4.3 loss is suspect. Oh well. Measurement doesn't change reality, and the reality is that I'm eating better. And I'm up to twenty minutes on my bike!
Terri sounds like a cool meeting. Yay for finding your group!... beautiful flowers, and I love the poem!
Kylia and Margaret and Tina yes fruit is a great idea. It used to be rough on my system, but now my system is doing better with more fiber.
Allie I have ADHD. The medication helped when I had hours of paperwork to do, but I don't need it for general errands. The most helpful thing for me is meditation. I use the Insight Timer app, so I can listen to ocean waves. It teaches impulse control.
Lisa Yay for the ability to mow! You are getting stronger all the time! And that's a gorgeous picture. It reminds me of Patrick, what's he up to? I like to think of him as evidence that there are still good guys out there.
Heather I nap in my jeans! ...You are the most courageous cook I know! I have never tried to cook liver. I wouldn't have the first idea.
Although I did manage a better salad dressing for my cabbage:
.5 Cup white grape juice
2 T chia seeds
1 tsp lime juice
The experiment is not over, but this is a better base and 4 servings means 41 calories in a big serving. Yay!
Carol another night without a/c? Wow. Life sure throws curve balls!
Margaret yes house maintenance is hard whether you hire it out or do it yourself. Lots of aspects to keep up with. I'm having an issue getting a bill straight with my landscaper.
Rita so glad you are feeling better! Yay!
Lanette I met a man in Las Vegas who dug ditches for a living. He had the most beautiful body! I met him dancing.
Barbie yes things have changed so much. My mom spent so much more time cooking without a microwave. And going to stores instead of ordering from Amazon.
Many hugs as you grieve for Jake.
Rebecca love the nuts and berries in your salad. It's not just lettuce and tomato anymore! I loved Arizona, you will have a great time.
Flea Yay for your daughter's pinning!
Pip Las Vegas is a great place. We used to take fried chicken and climb up Red Rocks and eat it. Or drive up to Mt Charleston to play in the snow. Or rent a pontoon boat on Lake Mead. Lots of outdoor stuff to do.
Michele that's great that mowing is "me" time! You keep busy.
Machka the program I just did had a lot about comfort zones, and conquering discomfort. Yay for strong women! And Yay for your gardening approach!
Tracey thanks for the Vitamin D info. I was nervous about 5000 iu being too much.
Rosemarie those driverless cars are scary! But some drivers are worse…Yay for getting yardwork sorted. You are doing a great job!
I need to re-organize my dumbbell workout. I squished it all on one page, and I need to break it up, and pay more attention to changing weights. My book came, and it was NOT beginner level. I might go back to that Strong Women Stay Young.
Hugs to all of you, my friends! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Morning, my dears,
Just a quick drop-in. Reading everyone's posts, love the pics!
We were supposed to maybe get a few showers yesterday afternoon and instead we got pounded with rain for a couple hours in the evening. Supposedly more rain by 10 a.m. Doesn't matter, I got all the outside work done yesterday, and planned to get some more mud and tape on the walls in the back room.
Got the doors down in the bedroom yesterday, deciding on hinges and door knobs. Thinking about the old glass rosette knobs for all five doors back there (two closets, two bedrooms, one bathroom) and Wayfair has them for the best price. Debating on other things as I go. Was going to get new ceiling registers, but I think I'll just get them down and see if I can get them cleaned up. Will spray paint them if necessary. The choice is $90 to replace covers or $8 for a can of paint… and on and on and on. New doors? Probably not, just paint the old ones. Choices all over the place. I try to keep it just a few in a given day so I don't exhaust myself mentally, throw up my hands and walk away.
Anyway… Corey's working today—summer is their busiest time, so getting the trucks in to work on them can't always be done on a work day—so he's up and running here at 6:30 in the morning… meeting his brother there at 8, and hopefully done by lunchtime.
Edit for Annie - Patrick's still here, still enjoying the job, and he and Corey are going to the speedway near here on July 5 to watch the cars and the fireworks. No fun to go alone, I guess. Not my bag, too noisy, too many people, so I'm happy to miss out on it! 😂 The last time I saw him, because I am incurably nosy, I asked Pat if he was lonely, if he thought he might remarry, and the answer was that he's saving money to buy a motorbike and drive all the way down through Mexico, Central and then South America, as far as he can get. Will he do it? I have no idea…
If we get a little sunshine before the rain comes in again, I might get out and get some flower pics.
Hoo! Cricket mode mentally this morning—can you tell? Need to go snag Cor's jeans and get them into the washer. No rest for the wicked, you know… 😂😈🤣 Bahaha!
Later, y'all,
Love,

Furikake: I had never heard of this seasoning before and my eyes would deceive me and tell me you all were putting 'fruitcake' on your foods! 🤣 I kept trying to figure out if you grated a fruitcake or how did you get that flavoring! LMAO

Kylia - thank you for the Toro information. The old girl should keep running for a long time, which is good. Was your Sara a Pyr? Our livestock guardian was a Maremma - a very close relative of a Pyr, a bit smaller. Same coat and sweet face. I still get choked up even thinking about her, still miss her that much.😥
Barbie - hard to believe Jake has been gone 6 months already. It's great that Annie is maturing and growing to learn you are Alpha dog.
Terri - those cards are beautiful. We have such talented people in this group! I love my foamer. I like to just foam 1/2 cup of milk with a little whey protein powder and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. It grows to be a cup of delicious foam that reminds me of whipped cream. 😁A nice treat.
Rebecca - your lunch salad yesterday looked super delicious! I had to smile at your sister's big truck. These monsters really are hard to get into - DH's even had a step and it was quite an effort for me.
Rosemarie - I like the idea of those self-driving cars, especially in big cities like that.
Lisa - no wonder you are such a go-getter with all of your varied interests and skills learned early on. Hard for you to sit still if something needs to be done, right? What's your son up to? As I recall he was on his own again and moving to NOLO or someplace south?
Do any of you take Doan's Extra Strength Back Pills (Magnesium Salicylate)? My back is doing a lot better during the day but it's often pain at night that degrades my sleep quality. I think I already mentioned, I'm going to talk to Dr. Lisa about doing various OTC anti-inflammatories on a rotational basis for a while. Ibuprofen one night, then Excedrin the next night (or these Doan's pills, theoretically easier on the stomach) then maybe a Celebrex the next night, rinse and repeat. These Doan's pills are pretty expensive compared to other OTC meds like that. Maybe they work that much better. Hoping once I'm done bouncing around on the mower and doing heavy work outside I won't need anything other than walking and exercises to keep it calmed down. I do soooo much better when I get at least 6 hours of good sleep.
Lanette 😎
