Big hugs to you Debbie on the loss of your MIL, and Carla on losing your dear friend. My condolences to you both. I hope Debbie, you and husband find peace in knowing you did everything right concerning her health, and put up with so much cruelty from her.

Debbie - may your MIL RIP. And I hope your DH (and you) will now get peace and grow out of the stressful lives you've led.
Lisa - love all of your flowers! Your place is coming along very nicely. Thank you for the photos and the update on your son.
Kim (((HUGS))) From what I've read, peripheral vision can be slow to come back but there's a chance it will. So glad friends are helping and you are able to get things accomplished around your house. You are a star and a survivor. Good stuff.
Barbie - sure wish the teleporter was available, it would be ideal to jet you down to the wedding and back before it was time to feed your dogs their supper. 😁 I used to think nothing of driving to Southern Oregon or Eastern Washington but now even short trips to the store seem too long, lol. Sounds like there are alternatives to driving for you. I didn't expect older people to fly out here for a memorial service for DH when he passed and I doubt I'll fly back to Indiana when and if siblings and/or their spouses pass away. But I'll see. Also great job troubleshooting the mower.
Tracey - yes, I also thought Kaitlyn's leg might have some type of eye tattoo, lol. I'm sure your visiting her will do a world of good. That wind chime is beautiful, great job. I bet it makes a nice soft sound, too.
Flea - I don't have a problem with gluten but I used to enjoy Van's GF Waffles - maybe they are the ones you can eat. I should try to find them again.
I just made a batch of chicken chaffles. Can of chicken breast, drained, mixed very well with 1 egg, 1/2 c shredded cheese, sprinkle of onion and garlic powder and a little Tarragon. Made 4 in the mini waffle maker. Had to cook around 6 minutes. They are limper and heavier than the regular chaffles I've made, but nearly 15 gm of protein and 1 carb per each.
Rebecca - it seems sugar is sneaked into many things. If it's in fruit, I figure it also contains fiber so it's not so bad. Ripe bananas are probably iffy. What I've noticed is that if I go overboard on sugary snacks that really triggers cravings. Fruit doesn't. You are doing a great job.
Carla - sorry to hear about your friend. Hope her passing is peaceful.
Carol - so glad your AC is working!!
Rita - no sugar/white starches/ultra processed food is tough when there's someone else in the house that likes that type of food. I don't know if I could do it if DH was still here.
Better close and see what the girls are up to.

Good afternoon my friends!
I put my York peppermint patties in the freezer to get them off the counter. Turns out they are pretty good frozen! That's the last of the snack chocolate in the house.
Lisa that Patrick is an awesome fantasy man! I would love to dream about a motorcycle journey like that! The reality is a bit beyond me, but who cares! If he gets closer to going, tell him to take a ferry around the Darien Gap in Panama. …And your flowers are beautiful!
Rebecca I could see you on an air mattress in the pool in Arizona! Yee haw! I bought some sliced almonds for salad. I eat chopped cabbage sometimes. Lots of chewing in 100 calories of cabbage! I'm usually only good for 20 calories or so.
Michele Yay for the pool!
Allie Happy birthday!
Carol Yay for the a/c!
Barbie I'm with you on not driving. I just turned down a day at a lake because it was five hours away. Hope flying works out.
Flea Yay for Tamales!
Rosemarie Yay for sod!
Tracey that's a beautiful sky!
Heather Yay for Brighton and Hove!
Carla many big hugs it's tough to lose a friend.
Pip hugs to you!
Kim I don't know what to say. Hugs to you too!
And Debbie, may your MIL rest in peace, and may you and your DH have time to heal and grieve.
And so back to Patrick. Would we take one motorcycle or two? And what would we go see? Angel Falls? The Amazon? Beaches and mountains oh my! Dream on!
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Yes, Lanette. Vans GF waffles are yummy. My kids dig into them, as well, so I try to keep some gluten waffles available for them. They are half the price!
Allie — you look fantastic! So happy.

Carla: Prayers going up for your friends.
Debbie: No words for the tumbler of emotions you, DH and kids must be feeling. Lots to unpack (literally and emotionally) there. Hugs all around.
Flea: I'm another who would vote for cauliflower crust pizza. I've tried Trader Joe's a few times, and declare it better than passable.
Ditto what Lisa said about the tamales. I've been known to have a bag in my freezer. Been awhile, tho.
Rosemarie: I hope you get to walk or just stand barefoot in your beautiful sod. It's a daily ritual for me during summer when our grass is kept a bit longer to retain moisture. My poor feet respond well to a few minutes of soft coolness and stretching in natural grass.
I woke up super crabby. Mr. Mars had me up a couple of times, but it wasn't an issue of interrupted sleep. I suspect grief. Watching my church service online helped. The sermon was on the Sound of Silence. The soloist did a wonderful rendition of that song. I've been playing Simon and Garfunkle in my headphones for 2 hours now. I don't have a yard, but I do maintain the breezeway which opens to the the front doors of all 4 first floor condo dwellers on our half of the building. I got that swept up and spiffed up a couple of my neighbors welcome mats. Big lift of spirits and of the overall looks of the space. Grateful. My late DH used to sweep out there almost every day, so of course just touching his broom gave me energy. And a reason to smile. So, now just taking my happy self inside for a Sunday of puttering on projects and just enjoying my simple life.
Happy Sunday friends. Stay well. We can do this.

Cut the grass (the parts I usually do with the walk behind),weedwacked then went in the pool. Vince trimmed one tree, had to come in, then put away the weedwacker. Rolled up the extension cords
Flea – one of the gals down at the condo needs gluten free. I don’t think she needs to be as concerned as you about cross contamination. Anyway, we were at this place and she got a GF pizza. I had a piece and it was quite good
Was going to take a walk but it started pouring. Glad I didn’t go:)
Carla – HUGS held extra extra long.
Allie – you and your friends look fabulous
I just noticed that the railing on the deck is getting really really yukky. Well, I couldn’t clean it this year and probably won’t be able to for at least another few weeks. Hmmmm...maybe I can clean it before they put it back up. Hope so.
Annie – yorks in the freezer ARE good. Really, most any candy(Andes, 3Musketeers) is good.
Think I’ll go downstairs and work a bit more on the tissue holder I’m making. I’m almost finished.

thanks for the comparison to GF - It was the perfect for me comparison and made me feel less alone in the weirdness that is my world.

(((Carla)))
Have new smoke detectors because of windows. I guess they were needed to pass inspection. One window has a part on order it creaks when opened. I said it sounds crabby like me. I have gotten one of the old window treatments up that still fits. I only did one of the windows in that room and won't change treatment unless I get other window done. As of now that is unlikely. The other window is in good shape.
I learned how to care for my new windows and will also help me with those I did not replace. I need to use a silicon spray because although oils have their place they leave residue which attracts dirt. It is important to kept the tracks clean. Son's house has more sliders windows so I did get those cleaned when I went over there to pick strawberries.
I had a good lunch with friend. We added fresh picked strawberries and fresh snap peas from the farmers market to add to our lunches. I was supportive of her not want to go back to her eating habits before her trip. She is afraid if she eats certain foods it will trigger her to start going down the wrong road. I told her for me now I rarely get tempted because I have been eating this way for a over a year now. I do remember some of the food I no longer eat but I think about how good I feel now and that stops me from picking up certain foods that would lead me to bad habits again.
She gave me a cinnebar bracelet with a dragon on it that is supposed to be protective. It was from her trip to China which sounds fantastic. Glad she went when she did. I will wear it when I think necessary. It is not supposed to be worn 24/7. Love it!
7 -
After reading that cinneabar contains mercury even though it is coated I am choosing not to wear it but hang it in a safe place where it will not be disturbed. As long as the coating is intact it is safe.

😀 I have been thinking about corn bread for a long time so my grocery order today included a pan of already baked cornbread and I made it all or part of nearly all my meals and snacks today. It will be gone by bedtime and leave a pleasant memory. Probably no worse than the Cherry Garcia ice cream I bought and consumed last week. I didn't record it in my food diary, I just left the diary the way it would have been and called it good. It was balanced out by 168 minutes of walking, 170 minutes on the recumbent exercise bike and 40 minutes of work in the yard.
😀 Daughter will be here tomorrow. Her route today took her not far from where Barbara lives and she's spending the night not too far south of where Lanette lives. We are having beautiful warm weather here this week and the the lavender is in bloom.
😀 Lanette, the teleporter would solve part of my problem but I can't leave the dogs alone for more than an hour. Annie is a handful. Also I don't know of anyone I'd want to have in my house. However, the event is not the wedding that will happen soon but a party to celebrate a year so there's a long time to wait before I have to do anything. I was just sorry I didn't say, "Oh boy, I'd love to come" and leave it at that.
😀 My Sunday walking friend is going to Vancouver BC next week and is making plans for a cruise to Antarctica and another one through the northwest passage from Nome, Alaska to Greenland and ending in Copenhagen. She is a retired flight attendant and travel is in her blood.

We are the same on long trips too. I had a long conversation with a friend in Connecticut, and I admitted that as I have gotten older I am happy in my aloneness. Being content to be home, and with a life that I have somewhat of a control over. It seems I don't need as many people in my life to make my happy. When I was younger I needed lots of social interaction to keep myself happy, but now? I get my happiness from myself pretty much. I sound like a hermit huh?😂

Debbie - sorry to hear MIL passed but glad for you and DH that those trials are over now. It has been a long hard road and will take some time to heal.
Carla - so sorry to hear about your friend. Prayers for all.
Fireworks have started already out here. Just sporadic for now but will continue to get more frequent all week. Night of the 4th will sound like a battlefield. DD and I will stay up with the animals until after the worst of it. Had a good day today.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

I went to Kaitlyn’s today and had a nice visit. She had texted me last night asking me to bring her Father’s sander with me. She stated she was putting me to work.
Below is the link to her Instagram- Truesmiles. She has a story about her sailboat repair. That girl amazes me. It’s the one with two daisies with a sailboat in the middle. She is currently calling the boat Daisy but she’s considering changing it.
https://www.instagram.com/truesmiles?igsh=MTU0cTVteDR3cDBjMg==2 -
Debbie - I hope your DH can begin the healing process now. Hugs to both of you.
Machka - Beautiful sunset.
Heather - Max has a good attitude. I admire Edie for continuing her activities even without awards. That is a good quality to have.
I’m more like Max, I don’t like competitive sports or sports at all really.Lisa - Your flowers are pretty. Mine are really struggling.
Barbie - I was going to ask if there was a way to fly to the wedding. I hope you are able to go if you would like to.
Rita - I need to start eating much healthier. I think DH and I both want it at the same time so that’s always a help.
Here in Canada we call it Comfort Care. Water is offered to patient and they can choose whether to drink or not, usually in those final days they don’t though, so the nursing staff swab their mouths. The oxygen is also left on and there are meds to make the patient more comfortable. It’s still a long painful process to witness and one can only assume, endure. It’s one reason I think MAID is something I would do.
Carla - I’m sorry your friend is suffering. The biggest hugs to you and prayers to her family.
Lanette - Kaitlyn asked me to stop and pick up a puzzle for her on my way to her house. One of the ones I looked at was a “on the farm” theme it was chickens in a coop, but somehow they made it look cute and rustic at the same time.
I ended up buying her one of a barn and old farmhouse for her under $20 specification because she was paying me back and then I grabbed this one from Rodger and I.Annie - Patrick does sound like a dream.
As I mentioned above I saw Kaitlyn today I’m so glad I went. We had a great visit.
She asked me if I’ll go for a sail with her once it’s ready! My response was, I was hoping! She is a Level 1 sail instructor. She learned it all through the Sea Cadet program. She started two weeks before her 12th birthday. She was supposed to be 12 but they made an exception for her and aged out at 19.We are planning a sleepover within the next three or so weeks.
I just love the drive to her house, it relaxes me every single time.
Off to bed,

After I got back from church this morning, dh and I went up to Fairfield- dropped off the time sheet so I get paid for watching my daycare girl then to do a very quick merchandising job-took less than 10 min.
Stopped at the Grocery Outlet- got a few cases of cat food and a little dog food(for MIL's dog) then stopped at the produce stand. Got a lot of different things. Didn't go crazy buying. So many good deals. Best was the mini avocado 6/$1, Persian cucumbers $1.50 a pound, cantaloupe 1.50 each, red pears 1.00 a pound. ginger 1.50 lb, apricots were 2.50 a pound so only bought a few- season is very short for them so I enjoy while they last. Also got tomatoes .99 a pound, radishes, already cleaned, two kinds of peaches. The flat peaches were actually cheaper than the regular ones, I think that is about it. All that was $16.
Came home and made a salad for our dinner(we had a late lunch at Del Taco)- tomato, red onion, cucumbers, radishes, avocado with a little rice vinegar and drizzle of sesame oil and a bit of garlic.
We split that and it was just enough and no left overs. Good to see him eat veggies.Debbie

Good morning my friends!
Rori I love Simon and Garfunkel!
Allie yes you look great! And I love the doggie pillow!
Margaret Yay for strawberries! A dragon bracelet sounds cool.
Barbie Wow all those minutes of exercise!
Rebecca being happy alone is a gift.
Tracey Yay for a good Kaitlyn visit!
I'm done with the free part of the Jason Seib week. His videos talk about why people quit diet and exercise and such. I decided I like the daily pep talk but not enough to pay for it. He made a lot of negative sarcastic sweeping generalizations. So next up for me is a podcast called Mind Pump. Hoping to get the daily pep talk.
I did a better run through my old dumbbell routine yesterday. I even did planks but not for long. Rolling around on the floor is its own exercise. I did ten reps with two pounds for most of it. My reps are too fast so that's something to work on. And some of the exercises need more weight. I still feel like I'm exploring. I have a notebook to set up for logging.
And I've been meditating fifteen minutes a day with that Insight Timer. Yay!
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I never thought about losing a sense – and how different it makes life. People have lost the sense of smell due to Covid (some short term some long term) and now I am curious, is it something that you think about everyday, does the lack of smell soak up your time and energy? Beth what about the lack of hearing, and now the restoration of some of that hearing…. The limited vision is at this point does suck up time and energy, and I wonder if I will get used to it. I hope I do not have to; that in time my vision will come back but for now I am doing a myriad of things to help make my current life easier. The last few days have been clutter control. A pile that might have some mail, a recipe, a card, a bill the most recent grocery store ad…. Is a frustrating pile, as it will take many minutes and concentration to find one item out of that pile. So each pile is being gone through and files made to put everything away, a ton of old paper work being thrown out or shredded. Just getting it done helps me feel more calm and comfortable in my own home. But as I finish one I realize that there is another spot that needs to be organized.
Kim — I have limited sense of smell for as long as I can remember. I have always been able to smell bad things … mold, mildew, if food is off, etc., but some people have this (amazing to me) ability to tell the difference between one brand and another, and to be able to determine what ingredients are in the cookie or whatever.
For me, most things are lumped into the taste categories. Coffee is bitter, but good. Chocolate is bitter-sweet. Milk is sour and needs something sweet to make it tolerable. The food I eat for lunch and dinner is usually slightly salty.
My likes and dislikes are largely based on texture.
However, after I recovered from my deviated septum surgery, I have been able to smell things more acutely. Usually it takes me by surprise and is very disconcerting. I'll be going along not smelling much, and all of a sudden … WHAM … there's a smell! Freshly cut green grass!! Mandarin orange!! Lemon!! Sometimes I can't figure out where the smell is coming from and I wonder if it is my imagination or really there. Like things will suddenly smell sweet. Or smell like garlic. Or outside recently, things have smelled like either vinegar or lemon juice … could be that my husband has used vinegar on the weeds or lemon juice on the fence … but there's no evidence of that … or maybe I was just thinking that he would and so my brain assumes there should be that smell. I just don't know anymore.
My husband lost both his sense of taste and smell when he had his 2018 accident (severe brain injury) although he can sort of detect the difference between salt and sweet, more by the way something feels in his mouth than taste. Sweet melts and salt kind of dries … he tells me. He eats by texture now too.
I don't think it takes up a lot of his time and energy, but he does really miss smelling and tasting.
Vision - I am very short-sighted and started seeing double a couple years ago … but glasses help.
Hearing - I started losing my hearing in my 30s and it's gradually going. It's at the point where it's annoying but not bad enough for hearing aids.
Gotta love being human.
As for your vision, if it is the nerve that's causing your vision issues, nerves can take a long time to heal … so improvements could still happen even a year or two out.
I'm working my way through piles of things here too.

This sunset shot was taken from the edge of our orchard in our backyard. :) I love the view from our yard and deck.
I was diagnosed about ten years ago. I had been having multiple loose stools for years, but thought that was normal.
Flea … isn't it normal?
I eat 4 slices of bread a week, usually. 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday for breakfast. The rest of the week, I rarely eat bread … it's OK, but not a "must have". But I do like pasta which would have wheat.

Morning, guys…
Have to jump in the shower in a hot minute - orthopedist this morning. Have I mentioned that I hate people touching me? Yeah, I really do. Still, if it will diminish some of the pain in the right shoulder, it will be worth it. Sitting with an icepack on your shoulder most of the night gets old.
For those who are new: Barbie ( @barbiecat )will be creating a link later today and posting it in this thread to guide us to the new thread for July, don't forget to join us there!
Annie - You're doing great darlin' - I tend to think of this thread as my daily pep talk. If it's not for me, then for each other.
Corey took down the rest of the fence yesterday - Hard to tell in this picture taken from my front door, but to the right of that tree in the center, there's a pile of fence panels.
We're leaving the bit of wood fence down by the road on the left, as it blocks the view of the AT&T substation or whatever it is. A bunch of big metal boxes that hum, built on the easement between our property and the next. But this is now the view in our front yard!
Not nearly as pretty as the view from your deck, Machka, but it looks awfully good to us… the little house would have been visible from the right, past the underside of the mimosa. We blocked it with the wood fence for four years, but now we can see clear to the road in the distance.
Ack! There's my time - have to jump in the shower, it's a one-hour tussle to get myself out the door on time… then 45 minutes to get there in morning traffic.
Later y'all…
Love from the sunny (until 3 pm anyway) Arkansas River Valley,
Lisa

😀 Annie, I agree with Lisa that this thread is my daily pep talk. It is like I am having breakfast with all of you and you are sharing your encouragement and your wishes for me to have a great day. When I walk, I listen to podcasts that are encouraging in other ways.
😀 My personal exercise plan is "find every opportunity to be active." Clutter clearing and housework count as being active along with real exercise like walking and riding my exercise bike. Sometimes at the end of the day I wonder why I'm tired because all I did was watch TV all afternoon, then I remember the 2+ hours of walking and the 2+ hours of riding the bike while watching TV. I meet two friends during the week and we walk and talk. We don't meet for a meal or to sit and talk.
😀 Lisa, that's a beautiful view from your front door.
😀 It will be warm again today. My plants will be happy and my heat pump will be busy keeping the house cool.
