Being intelligent and being smart are not the same thing. The minute you start to value possessions over life, you cease to be smart. That's a no brainer. If they said get your stuff and you need to be out in 5 minutes, I would have the kids, wife and dogs and be gone in 3. Stuff you can replace. People you can't. If you're going to live where disasters happen, keep your place insured, put valuables like birth certificates in fire proof safes and be prepared to go over floor plans to see what your next house will look like.

Christa said there were people actually already doing this where they were sheltered. Their house wasn't even gone yet!

I don't have a fireproof safe, but I have a plastic box with a handle that never moves with all the super important documents in it. My parents have fireproof safes. I've done practice runs already. All I grab is bathrobe(put it on hot OR cold outside), box, ferret carrier is always ready to go so I shove the ferrets in and move out.

This is practiced for all three exits. My mom refused to let me practice the window runs. :disappointed:

I'm glad I have a job, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to find something better.

Eh. I think the whole problem comes down from the admin, leaving us minimally filled position wise. Short version of the story is they noticed we managed to function without an assistant director so they never refilled that. Down one counselor, but all clients covered, so we may get one more recovery specialist (my job, though I started as a counselor, it's a long story), but they sure are slow about hiring. They move at snail pace and lose most prospects to competing jobs.

I actually really like the job I have now. I love my coworkers, and my boss is very responsive and gentle, but still maintains order. It's great, becasue I've had some really horrible work situations. I'm content to stay here for a while, possibly a long time.

@jennifer_417 I've never tried St John's wort...not sure why...thanks for the reminder...I'll check it out! I'm guessing the same rule will apply (don't take it ___ amount of days/weeks before going under) but it is worth a look!

We went and looked at kittens again. Two Siamese. Oh.My.Lawd. So precious...and so overpriced. I'd adopt from the shelter for sure but I can't lie and say those babies weren't beeyooteefull!

Two mirrors got broken in our house over my weekend. Do they cancel each other out?

Tried a new restaurant in town. It is very island-y/Hawaiian. I had a bbq pulled pork, my fiance had jerk chicken. Everything was so fresh and tasty!

I cannot get over HOW MUCH "homework" kindergarten is! Seriously! We have three or four "assignment" to do this weekend. We had plans for making peanut butter cookies and felt projects but sheesh...I didn't realize we'd be so busy with school work...in kindergarten!

And GET THIS. So for a snack the other day...the kids had...TWINKIES! We've never even given Elka a Twinkie in the nearly 6 years she has been alive...and she gets one as a SNACK in SCHOOL. I want to take over snack day everyday. So far all the snacks have been crap except her day (bananas) and one kid brought grapes. So frustrating...and this is coming from a fat chick. At least I know Elka likes good food. Today was a half day of school and for lunch out she chose a salad bar...and she chooses the good stuff, not just the high fat/calorie stuff that most people do and still think they are eating healthy. Most of the time she eats salad without dressing! On a side note, the other day we sent a sandwich on pumperknickel. She said all the kids were freaking out over her "black bread". The next day she brings leftover Spanish tortilla (basically a frittata) with homemade garlic mayo. She said the kids were asking her all about it. So she is that kid...the kid with weird lunches...lol.

I love my co-workers, but work hates that we're friends. I'm okay with my job responsibilities. It's mostly pay, administration and schedule for me.

Yeah...maybe they would've done better to at least announce that at the END of the shift...it's like they're TRYNA kill people.

@lilaclovebird I'm sorry I missed this. I work for a non profit. Not the state. So paid less, worse benefits, but we need to meet their DPH etc standards. When I was hired I had my first interview three to four weeks before I started which wasn't bad. At the time they were down two counselors. It's just too many channels now as a higher up is micromanaging.

It's not as slow as yours, though, Wowie.

Yeah, it was long hiring process. But totally worth it. In fact, after I get my degree, I may still work for the same facility just in a different department. Will be quite strange though, going from nights 11pm-7am to days 8am-5pm.

I think the length also had to do with the fact that I am working for a university police department at a facility that does animal testing/breeding.
I love animals, but I love what I do and I see the conditions they are kept in. I revel in the fact that despite having several investigations, we've not had one citation on how we keep our animals. We run a tight ship here and everyone is well taken care of.

Ah. Background check and the usual for us since I work with people. Vulnerable population. Mostly night shift needs to be alert to any crisis that may come up. I also do rehab activities.

Pretty much how we roll out here. Be ready for a crisis, know who to call for what, and in which order.

Our biggest threats are: Active Shooter, Facility Fire/Damage, People from the outside trying to free the animals, Chimp Escape, and Biohazard Exposure.

Really? "Hi, some of you will be unemployed at the end of the day, but hey! Keep your heads in the game and your mind on the work." Who are they kidding.
