Hi everyone and welcome to delraybuzz!! You have found a great group. I look forward to getting to know you.
My bil/sil were visiting today from Ontario. They have gone to see another sil/bil for a few days and then will be back Monday. It is always nice to see them.
I am getting very worried about Neil. I am really missing his voice and am so hopeful that it isn't gone permanently. He had a terrible fall this evening. I am not sure if he had a seizure or just lost his balance. He hit the TV with his head and the floor with his knee. It seems to have broken the TV somewhat but I was more concerned about him. I hope he didn't injure his new implant!! He was a little bit happy when I thickened his diet Dr. Pepper (best drink ever according to him) and he was able to get it down. I used my chopper thing and chopped up some meat pie for dinner for him, just a small piece and he managed to eat it all. He had a seizure today and dropped his drink out of his hand (this is a new type of seizure for him) and it made a mess, of course. He was very embarrassed and had a hard time shaking it. I will call the neuro nurse in the morning and see if the Dr. wants to see him.

    Take care. Gayla

    Good Morning Everyone!

I am up and moving. The surgery went very well. I decided to do a spinal block at the last minute. I never felt a thing and I slept through the whole proceedure. They woke me up when it was over. The numbness lasted a lot longer on me than they though it would. 9 hours! That caused me some problems with the bathroom and such but I really did not feel a thing. I have not taken anything for pain, not one pill! The knee aches but it was worse before the operating. I have crutches and I am using them although this morning I am walking around a bit, but very very slow. I have pictures of the inside of my knee that I will try scan and post. LOL

When they got in there it was a mess. It was scheduled for 20 minutes and it went 60. I had multiple large tears as I mentioned before and a lot of arthritis, which is not good as you all know. There were alot of pieces of things floating around in the knee. Probably bone pieces and my meniscus. I was told that I should not have the pain that I have endured for the last 1-1/2 years.

The surgeon that I had is a sports medicine specialist and was absolutely excellent. I could not have asked for a better job. But he told me that I will not run again. I have been really down about that issue. He did tell me that he thought that I should be able to ride my bike competitively again, but it may not be easy. I have entered the Senior Olympics for next year in 4 bike events. Yesterday I started putting together a triathlon team for team events. I will not give up! Never give up!

Dayanne went back to work today and I am going to try driving later today. I may go to Walmart and just walk around on my crutches. I am getting stir crazy!

Gayla I will add Neil to my prayer list. I think of you all often.

Sandy going to the casino soon? Have you seen the long term winter forcast for us? Not pretty!

Marie I hope your lift parts get there and right, for you. Mobility is a wonderful thing.

Barbie I trust that you and Jake are well.

Delraybuzz welcome to our group. We have been together for a few years now. Don't let the hip beat you! You have a great attitiude. Just embrace what you have and make everyday better than the last.

Gigi and everyone else I have enjoyed your post and thank you all for the kind thoughts and wishes.

You all have a wonderful day!

Good Friday Morning!! Jeffrey, glad you are on the road to recovery and I can't believe you haven't taken any pain meds. :noway: You are one tough cookie. They didn't have to replace the knee but did a major over haul correct? Did they say no more running ever forever? I love the picture of you and Day on twitter, you should share it here.

Gayla, when it rains it pours, poor Neil. I really hope he didn't jar anything when he hit his head or damage his knee for that matter. Sometimes his life sounds so hard not only on him but on you, you are truly an angel of a mother. Let us know what the doctor says and prayers will continue for both of you.

Phil called this morning and said he went to the doctor and his liver is good, his kidneys are ok but he has a broken rib (possibly from the surgery or the way they transferred him) and he has had this lump in his breast for years and he finally told the doctor about it and she was like oh my god and wants him to have an MRI. It seems there is always something with him. :frown:

Plan on exercising, doing some errands and getting some Halloween cards in the mail for the grand kids. Have a great Friday and great weekend.

    Hi Sandy!

You have the surgery correct. They rebuilt what they could. And yes, no more running for me, but we shall see! LOL I will try to get some new pics up while I am recoverying. My scanner is upstairs and I am a little afraid to tackle the stairs just yet. I liked that pic too, although I was heavier in it. Vain or what??? LOL

I use Skype every Sunday with my son from Portland and when my other son was in England. It is a great way to stay in touch with family and see them at the same time.

Just dropped by to wish everyone a nice weekend. Hopefully everyone will be healthy or get healthier.

My neice had an emergency C section this week. She is fine and the baby is doing well in the NICU. She's about a month early and breathing is a little difficult now but the doctor says she is doing well.

I"m off to Baltimore on Monday and I'm hoping to stay dry. It looks like the weather there has been a little damp.

Happy Friday to you all. OOPS, I missed a Dr. Appt. for me today, too busy being a nurse I guess. His receptionist was completely understanding and said they had more than enough patients this morning! If I don't quit crying at the drop of a hat it may be a psychiatrist that I will be needing. My cup runneth over I guess. Neil was very frustrated and angry this morning, especially at me when I called the Dr. office. He is mad at everyone I think but I am always the safest target. However, when he was angry I did actually hear a bit of his voice which does give me a little hope. It didn't take him long to get over his mad and is now watching his TV shows and is relatively content. I think it is really upsetting him that he can't use his cell phone. I think drinking may be a little bit better. I gave him some slightly thickened milk and he did fine but then it seemed to leave him with a feeling of something in his throat. Guess I will stay away from milk for awhile. Sorry, folks, feel like I am stuck on the same rut and keep telling you the same story. I expect his Dr. will call later today and possibly want to X-ray his chest.

Dave went out for lunch with his friend. Glad he got to get out for a bit. I went shopping for a few hours yesterday and for someone who hates shopping it was kind of nice.

Jeffrey -- I am so glad you are having a great recovery, mostly because of your amazing attitude. I understand how difficult it is to think about not doing something you love. Filling the void with biking is a great idea. Better than filling it with food which is always my goto. I thought about signing up for Twitter and then decided that I really didn't need one more thing to do. I have other friends there and have considered it before. Who knows, one the these days I just may bite the bullet. Nearly forgot, I don't skype although I have certainly seen my kids skype many times. Seems painless!

Marie -- So sorry that you are still having such trouble with the lift people. I hope it will all be taken care of next week. You are the sweetest person ever, just want you to know that I think that.

Sandy -- You are also very special and always know the right thing to say. I wondered if it was a good idea for the Dr. to tell Phil that his liver was good. I am not sure that he had a good enough scare?! I do hope that he is doing ok in all areas.

Mamasota -- Best wishes for good health for your wee baby! Have a safe trip.

To everyone else have a safe and happy weekend. Take care and keep smiling. Gayla  (my upside down smile)

I just lost an entire post! Wanted to thank you all for the warm welcomes, and wish the best for Gayla and Neil! And Jeffrey, here's to a quick recovery from that knee surgery; I too, chose a spinal for my hip surgery 3 years ago, and though I felt nothing, the noise from the hacks and saws sounde like the Doctors were building a house...or ripping it down! SInce I have Restless Leg Syndrome, anesthesia can present problems I'd just as soon avoid! MArie, sorry about taking your place as the most senior member, but after all, at 83, I finally deserve SOME respect! And Caliecat, why do I think you are a feline lover? I have a couple of Grandkitts of my daughter,...Ragdolls, huge and gorgeous! I'll see if I can post a picture from my last visit one of these days!
I got to Florida finally after growing up in Boston, living in Providence, then Long Island.
Mike is calling me to some great eggs he just made, so I'll get back to you all.
And thanks again for letting me into your lovely group!
Barbara ... (does that make 3 or 4 in this group?)

:drinker: Barbara, welcome to the group......there are now three Barbara's but I go by Barbie and the other Barbara goes by Barb, so it won't be a problem...two of my children are cats, Haifa and Bernie......my other two children are Standard Poodles, Brandy and Sasha.....this is a great group and we're glad to have you join us...I started on this thread in February 2009 and have lost over 70 pounds during that time

:flowerforyou: Marie, I'm watching your Texas team trounce my Yankees   sorry you've had so many setbacks with your lift......I guess you're getting a lot of opportunity to learn about patience.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I'm not trying to lose more weight, just get rid of the three pounds that crept up as the result of traveling and being too casual about my eating

:flowerforyou: Jeffrey, I'm glad to hear that you're weathering your recovery without pain pills....they can sure mess up your thinking and the fewer drugs the better........I'll be eager to hear about your return to the active lifestyle.....I know you'll be creative to find some alternatives to running, or maybe you'll find that the recovery will be better than you anticipated.

:flowerforyou: Gayla, I wish I could be there to give you the big hugs you need and deserve....being the caregiver is so intense and you can't just walk away when you want to.....hugs to Neil to for doing as well as he has with all the challenges....

:flowerforyou: Mamasota, enjoy your trip to Baltimore......I went to college there for a year and liked it.

:flowerforyou: We had some trouble with the internet so I barely got on to MFP long enough to track food and exercise but now all seems OK again.

It looks like the winter storms are headed our way.....Jake did WII bowling and tennis today and tomorrow I'm going to get the guest room straightened up so I can do Leslie Sansone Walk at Home in there.

    hugs to all

    Good Morning!

I have been up since 6:30 and I am bored! I did a little weight lifting and some chin ups this morning. That woke me up good. I took the wrap and bandages off the leg last night. We counted 7 holes of which only 3 were stitched. I have some swelling and some bruising but I can move the knee about 80 degrees already! With no pain! I will be ditching the crutches tomorrow. I can walk some now but it is a little tiring.

Joe the Cat has been helping me. He helps me eat my meals and makes sure that the couch is warmed up for me! What a helpful soul he is! LOL

I am going to fix Day some breakfast here in a bit and then get cleaned up! I need a shave and a shower. Today is the first day that I am allowed to shower. (too much information!) I am sure that I will fell better after that! We are going to one of our friends house this evening for a cookout. Should be a nice evening. I am going to make Dayanne take me to Walmart after bit just to get out of the house for a bit.

    Congrats to the Texans Marie!

Delraybuzz! all of my genetics are from the Boston, Farmingham, and Providence area! Story for another time!

Barbie and Jake one of my best friends is moving out to Washington. He loves it there. Stay dry!

Gayla keep your focus girl! All things pass! My prayers are with you!

Everyone else have a great Saturday!

Bad news is that it is a rainy dreary morning. :frown: Good news is we are going to look at a new car today. I want to check out the 2011 Acura MDX to see if I like it as much as my Lexus. Since my step son is in the car business we get a good price on our cars, my husband is ready to get a new car. :blushing:

Gigi, I am so sorry for your loss, it is always so hard to lose a loved one, especially so young. :brokenheart:

Jeffrey, repeat after me......REST.........did you ever hear of that word?? Just kidding of course, your doctor must be amazing that you are bouncing back so quickly. Something tells me that you will be running again in the future although you better listen to your doctor young man.

Barbie, congratulations on losing that pesty pound, I am still working on mine. It funny how if you log the calories, exercise and drink water how you lost weight. I am back on track and moving forward. :drinker: :drinker: Does Jake burn calories on the Wii with the bowling and tennis?

Marie, soon I am going to send Jeffrey to your house so he can deal with those lift people. How can one company make so many mistakes???

Mamasota, congratulations on the new baby, I hope your niece is doing well.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Barbara, grand kids are the best, when you get tired of them you give them back.  I have six, ranging in ages from 21 to 5 and I love them all. Our baby is my Old English Sheepdog, Daisy, she is the love of our lives.

Gayla, please tell us Neil is doing better and the doctor gave him a clean bill of health. I forgot what month you were born but I cry at the drop of a hat and I am a Pisces. With all that you go through you are entitled to sit down and cry for no reason, it just helps with the stress. We love you Gayla!!!!

    Have a great Saturday everyone!!

Gayla Sandy gave you some good advise Rest Rest Rest You too Jeffrey.

I do beieve it is raining out this Saturday Monday. First rain we have had in a long time.
us Texan don't know how to handle this W orld series thing.. but we are sure willing to learn. It sure has cut into my sleeping time.

Jerry is at the post office now mailing my son a Ranger cap. He says they don't have any in St. Louis

Hope you all have a Happy Saturdy.

    Marie
  • Our rain has finally come with a vengeance here in Spokane. However, nasty weather outside makes it seem so much cozier and snug in my little house. I grew up working the fields, and rainy days meant a chance to get all the housework and other inside chores done. So a rainy day (usually) gives me a spurt of housecleaning energy. I've gotten a lot done today. A rainy day has just the opposite effect on Ralph.....he likes to crawl under a nice blanket and watch a ball game or two or three. That's OK. I can clean around him. I'm so thankful I still have him. My sister was a widow at 37 and never remarried.......

I do read posts regularly. Although I usually don't respond individually, I do care and lift your needs up in prayer. I don't know how I could have faced the things I've gone through the last couple of years without prayer and your support. I have one more chemo session scheduled for November 1. Then a month later a CT and other tests for re-evaluation. I'm expecting a good report.

It's good to see new members to the group. Welcome all of you. God Bless!
