This is my current favorite tattoo. It's the devil's hand on the side of my right thigh, and the "13" stands for Friday the 13th.

I've not had anything that 1. I would want on my body for the rest of my life and 2. won't look like crap when I'm 80. All the holes in my body are ones I was born with.

    OOOOH SOOO COOOLLLLL

i think people who decide against having a tattoo have every right to decide not to get one, regardless of the reasoning. If they said that a tree fairy whispered in their ear to not get one, that would be fine with me.

I don't understand the hostility. He didn't say anything about people who have them.

Full disclosure - I have ink

I think people are reacting with hostility because he came onto a message board, specifically about tattoos, and gave a negative reaction to them. Including a comment that says they look "like crap" when you're older to a bunch of people who have tattoos.

It was just his opinion, and he's entitled to it. And he did specify that they look like crap when HE'S 80. He probably could have put it more delicately. Considering the convo he joined, he did kinda ask for it.

That being said I have 2! My favorite isn't actually finished yet. Its roses trailing from my stomach/hip up my ribs, not symbolic for me. Just pretty. Piercings- I have my ears, industrial, nose, tongue and Christina done.

    he really didn't.

people assigned malicious intent and meaning to innocuous statements made for himself.

I am being too lazy to add my photo of my fav tat but as I said it is a quote, proverbs actually but it says

"She is clothed in strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future"

I got it because my mother had gone through cancer 3 times and as a result, I ended up with severe anxiety, I was very young when she had her first stint of cancer, it was right after I was born, then again when I was 13 and lastly just 2 years ago when I was 24. So, I had literally been around cancer and it's affects on the body as well as the treatment affects my entire life. I watched her go through all this and still remain hopeful and strong as a single mother, so I got the tattoo to remind myself that cancer and any other illness doesn't determine your quality of life nor do we have an expiration date stamped on us and a means to celebrate my mother's victories. When it's time to go, it's time to go and we can't control that so live your life and not fear it.

Sorry for the novel, it's just a very special tattoo

Great quote given the circumstances you have dealt with. :flowerforyou: :drinker:

LOL, the trolling is strong on this thread. I currently only have the one tattoo (no good pics unfortunately), but plan for two more. No piercings, my skin doesn't react well to metal :grumble: .

I'm agnostic so my typical response to someone lecturing me with scripture about my choices might be less than civil depending on circumstances, but when it comes to tattoos my personal favorite response is that I'm not desecrating, but decorating.

I've always wanted a tattoo, but I've never found anything I really wanted enough to bother getting one yet.

I just have my ears pierced now (1 hole each) but at one point I had 3 in each ear, my belly button, my nose, and one down there. I'd probably redo my ears again and nose, but I don't really miss the other two enough to redo them. Maybe once I lose all my extra weight I'll change my mind, but nobody is going to see my belly button other than my boyfriend now anyway so no sense in piercing it.

Anyway, my favorite one will be my next one, which is my son's initials EMZ. I designed it to look like a shamrock, because i found out i was going to be a dad on St. Patrick's day:

I don't have tattoos or piercings for the same reason I don't have pictures of anything, nor posters in my room, nor anything decorative. My personal beliefs don't allow for things that have purely aesthetic--and not functional--purpose.

I guess people get tattooed for different reasons but I think Miami Inked etc have a lot to answer for for 'a story', bollocks to that just get something cos you like it, it will turn into something meaningful even if its just something stupid like Gangnam style on your foot (no offence if anyone has this)

I just have one that I got last year... a tiny black star, about half an inch across, on the top of my shoulder. It's so tiny the tattooist's assistant apologised for the fee, as it starts from a basic level. My mum started freaking out the first time she saw it, then my dad looked and said 'Is that it?!'

    But I love it ^_^

My sister has a few on her body that my parents know nothing about, including a gorgeous flock of crows that start at her spine and wrap round under her breast... apparently she walked into the tattooists and asked for 'birds but nothing poofy like doves' (yep, that's my sister). It turned out amazing, far more beautiful than those that she actually planned.

Seven tattoos, my favorite is the quote on my ribs. I have my belly button pierced, cartilage piercings in my ears, and planning on a few dermal implants when race season is over.

14 tattoos and two piercings. My most recent tattoo is my favourite, and I can't wait to get it completely finished.

I have a small rose & gecko on my left breast, a small horse on my right calf, a large tribal butterfly on my right thigh, and a large tree on the back of my left calf (still unfinished, my artist moved and I haven't found anyone I trust enough to finish it). My favorite is a toss-up between the tree and the tribal.

As for pain, my thigh about killed me. It was all I could do to keep from crying. The calf was nothing, I actually took a nap while he did that one (no, I wasn't drunk. lol).

I have none. Nada. ZERO. :) And as for myself - from a religious standpoint - I don’t agree with them. I’m not judging anyone here. I’m not deleting anyone from my friends list over it. Ultimately, I’m responsible for me. I, personally, want my body to remain pure and clean of modification. I want to be recognized by other things, like my actions.

I don't have one, but have been thinking about it! I love looking at everyone that has posted a pic. Has anyone gotten one with just white ink?

My college roommate got hers the same time I got mine (2002), a playboy bunny on the inside of her ankle. I mocked her mercilessly last week when I found out she was getting it covered up!

Love tattoos- got mine at 18 and 19 and still love them at 41.
The velveteen rabbit is on the inside of my left ankle.
A fairy designed by my best friend at the time is on my right shoulder.

*funny story- my buddy designed my fairy - as I said, and so it had to be traced and transferred so that the artist could put the image on my shoulder. The original design was of a silhouette of a naked fairy, very modest. When I looked in the mirror after it was done- she had cleavage, nipples and was more well endowed than what was designed. I was leaving the next week for school 4 provinces away- and for most posters on this topic you will know, before it can be fixed it has to heal - about 6 weeks.
So, I had to wait till I came home at Christmas to get the jerk to fix her. She's not as modest as she was supposed to be, but no more nipples.
I have been hesitant to get one since. Trust issues!
