    Few random thoughts:

    1. If schools make a big deal of this, students will make an even bigger deal of it. Contradicting authority is what kids do as they grow up.
    2. Students will find something to distract themselves with, if it's not bracelets, then it will be something else. Even students who go to an all-girl's or all boy's school are constantly comparing themselves to everyone else at this age. It's a wonder they learn anything at all.
    3. When my daughter was born, our family was the "poster family" for breastfeeding awareness in our town. Our (fully clothed) picture was in the paper along with an interview about the whys and hows (of b-feeding while working full time). One day a little boy, maybe 3-4 years old, came up to me and said, "You that lady with her picture in the paper?" He was with his mom, who apparently had enough common sense to talk to her son about breast feeding already. The point: we need to start educating our children much earlier on about our bodies exclusive of all the sex they see everyday in school, on TV, the internet, etc.

here's a real question for everyone...
if someone wore a tee shirt or a bracelet that said

"I heart ****:" Or I Heart weenies" would it be okay?

what if "I Heart Boobies" had nothing to do with breast cancer???

would you still be okay with someone underage wearing it?

Yes, but take out the **** cause those are just too confusing and leave too much to the imagination!

I'm sorry did you say you want them to take their **** out?

Why yes, yes I guess I did! I hate to discriminate though! If they don't have a **** then they can take their **** out! As long as they do not use their imaginations! Heavens forbid!! :ohwell:

Here's a novel idea... how about using ALL THE MONEY they used to make/ship the BRACELETS to further the CANCER RESEARCH??? Then just take financial donations instead of selling items that cost money to make and ship. If everyone cares so much about breast cancer they should have no problem giving money to the cause directly without having to get something in return IE bracelets and junk that ends up in land fills. Isn't a cure enough of a return on your donations? The kids should where G rated awareness stuff. Adults can where the other items if they want. We need GREEN products that are healthy to promote breast cancer... Like the kids selling plants and trees at the schools to raise money, not just run around with offensive bracelets.. I mean how does running around with boobies bracelets further the research? It doesn't... it causes wastes of time money and attention to the real reason that needs to be addressed.

Because if you don't promote awareness then you have a much more limited pool of donors. People don't give their time and money to something that isn't really on their mind. But then if you weren't able to figure that out based upon some of the previous comments I guess I'm wasting my time too.

I'll never understand why America is so offended by anything sexual. I can't see boobs on tv, but I can watch people getting killed.
Plus boobs are awesome. what is so offensive about boobies? If it said save the feet, I'd understand...feet are nasty.

It's not quite "America" that's offended, it is particular groups that are offended by anything sexual. Amusingly enough, the groups that get most offended and shelter their children from everything sexual end up with a higher rate of teen pregnancy.

    blah blah blah.

Want to support breast cancer in school? Where a bracelet that has the ribbon placed on it.
    Just wear the ribbon.
Students only wear this for the wow factor and TELL their parents, teachers, etc. That it's for the cause. Plain and simple. I know I would!

As for the bracelets: if you allow a bracelet that says boobie on it, you need to allow shirts with a pot leaf: How do you know the kid isn't just supporting the cause of medical marijauna since it helps his mother with her multiple sclerosis pains? If you allow one girl, supporting her grandma, you must allow the other. Like I said, if she wants to support, there are other less debatable ways. It's not too difficult to just put a pink ribbon on.

As for the breasts: sexual vs nonsexual: Only made sexual by the media. You do NOT see men walking around flashing their packages and bulges on (most) TV, in magazines, etc.

Breasts are for feeding babies, sexual pleasure (for men and women) is an added perk. Trust me, breast play is my favorite party of foreplay, but breasts are NOT made for sexual pleasure, they are made for feeding babies. Just like a penis is not there to be played with either. It's there to procreate. Yes, there are sexual "perks" but no body part, was made for pleasure. The penis and vagina are there to procreate. The breasts are there to feed our young. Do you ever see cows getting busy, and the male playing with the utters? I didn't think so.

If you combine vagina and penis you get Venus, or a kid in about 9 months

Everyone does indeed deserve a turn. It'd be awfully boring in here without the debating, baiting, and poking.

How could anyone be offended by a bracelet? It was for a good cause! Breasts aren't even offensive - what if it had said "I (heart) rainbows" or something, would they have made a fuss? Some people make a big deal out of nothing.

    Oh, and I (heart) boobies!

I think breasts are multipurpose actually. As someone who has breastfed for years now I can say that my sensitivity was definitely instrumental in getting me pregnant in the first place. Think of it as a space shuttle with stage rockets haha..except breasts are so much better because they still feel great once you wean your child...you don't just jettison them off your body afterward

And cows and udders and sexplay? Apples and oranges really- cows don't even KISS. I think I remember reading somewhere actually that humans really didn't kiss the way we do now and it's a cultural thing that developed over time just like romantic love (the cultural expectations regarding romantic love, not that it exists, that is a biological occurrence regardless). Blah anyway I'm not going to base my ideas about sex and my body on what I see in the animal kingdoms.
    ..........................

I think that a lot of the teenagers (males) wearing these bracelets are doing it for the irony of it..they might actually agree with the cause on several levels obviously, but also lets just face it: it's probably awesome that you can get away wearing such a thing and get brownie points from any girl/woman for doing so at the same time, yes?

Regarding fund raising purposes/information awareness up there ^^ the biggest thing that chagrins me about the whole breast cancer ribbon lemming fest is that it isn't even the highest killer of women health wise LOL. Heart disease is! Additionally most women wouldn't even realize if they were having the symptoms of a damned heart attack! Bravo world

i have a lot of opinions on the subject - being a semi-recent high school graduate and having two family members as cancer survivors and being a Bill of Rights activist, it would be surprising if i DIDN'T have six or seven paragraphs of craziness to spew. however, most of my opinions have already been argued in this thread, so i'm not going to express them. all i have to say is. . .tits. mine are the best you'll never see.

    and that is all.

ETA: oh, and listen to Mrs_McFadden. she's usually right.
