how's everybody doin??? im doin great, i think i might try to run a little bit today. i'm still using the "ultra light" strength e-cigs a couple times a day. no cravings, but i still have the mood swings. i'm still not going to the bathroom as much as i'd like, and i think i'm getting "quit zits" too lol oh well0 -
I started smoking in college "to lose weight". My roommate and I would have a cig instead of a snack and that was probably one of the dumbest decisions I've ever made. Within 4 years, I was smoking a pack a day, and did so for 3 years. When I got married, my husband was not a smoker and hated the habit, but did not ask me to quit, he asked if I could cut down a little, and so I did. The first year of our marriage I smoked 3 cigs a day (basically, breakfast, lunch and dinner time) and it worked for me. But the day I found out I was pregnant with our first child, I quit cold turkey and never looked back. But....nine years and 4 kids later, I was stressed out about our cross-country move (or at least used that as an excuse) and started back again. It took me 3 years to kick the habit AGAIN. But one day we were watching tv and an public service announcement came on about the dangers of smoking. My 11 year old son looks at me and said "Smoking cigarettes can kill you?" I answered him yes, and he just looked at me with this expression on his face like, 'why are you doing it then?'. I felt ashamed of myself at that moment and wondered what kind of example I was settiing for my kids. I quit the very next day, cold turkey, again, and never went back. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I cried, I got depressed, I gained weight. But I survived. That was Jan 2001. I have been smoke-free for 10 years now. Yay me! And although I still crave one every once in a while, it's not enough to make me go back. I love my family, and I want to be around as long as I can. Sorry I rambled on and on, but just want you to know that it's not impossible. I'm rooting for you! GOOD LUCK!0

hey guys im on day 20 and save 1 whole day of my life! in another couple of weeks i'll have made up the money that i spent on e-cigs and gum!
i'm going to a family party today and i'm going to see all my cousins who smoke. i have NO fear of being tempted. i'm actually excited to go outside with them and show off my my e-cigarette lol. i know they're gonna be really shocked because they know how much i loved to smoke. maybe i can motivate a couple of them to think about quitting! i really haven't been getting any cravings. the only thing that's been happening is that TINY panic feeling when i remember that i don't smoke. i just grab the e-cig, take a couple puffs (that's all i need now) and i'm good.
i ran around my back yard yesterday with my dog and i didn't feel like i was as out of breath as i should have been. i've definitely noticed a difference. i can run the 2 flights of stairs from my basement to my room without wanting to die! it's probably a combo of the weight loss AND quitting smoking, but either way, it's an awesome feeling
how is everyone doing?? i hope everyone is doing well! stay quit! it's awesome0 -
I slipped. After over 100days, I freaking slipped. Saturday night I was in a car accident and smoked a half a cigarette. Here is what I learned. It didn't settle me down. It tasted awful. The next day I felt ill. I'm still disappointed in myself but I am l glad that I don't have the urge to run out and buy a pack.
So here is my question. Since I've been counting my days of not smoking, do I have to start over? I don't want to but it seems like I would be cheating if I don't.0 -
From someone who's at around the same point. - 3 months +.
I look at it t his way.
100 days was the amount of days since you were a smoker. Someone who smoked a bunch of cigarettes in a day.
You had a stressful experience. You thought it might help, it didn't.
I would still be proud and say it's 100 days since you've been a smoker. not 100 days since you had a drag off a smoke.0 -
Smoke-Free: 39 Days, 11 hrs, 45 min
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 390
Money Saved: $80
I smoked for 25 yrs and really never tried to quit. Fact was, I loved smoking and knew I'd fail if I tried to quit. My mom passed away suddenly from a heart attack last September and was a smoker for about 45 yrs. I knew I had to quit. This was my sign. I started Chantix on 4/8/11 and quit 4/15/11. It's definitely hard. I've gained about 10 lbs. I forgot to take the Chantix yesterday and didn't notice that the cravings were worse, so I am not going to take it and see how I do. I really don't want to smoke. I've been trying to think about it like an alcoholic thinks about drinking - I can't even have a drag. I have to do this for me!!0 -
i just hit 3 weeks yesterday. sunday was a really good day. i went to visit my old job where everyone smokes. i even went outside with some of them on their cigarette break and it didn't bother me! it still smelled good, but i didn't want to have one. even later that night i went to my cousins' house and they smoked in front of me too i had my e-cig with me but i didn't really need it. it was great. i was worried about being in front of people who smoked, but it wasn't so bad.
krb731 - you quit smoking a long time ago, you just had a little mess up. don't feel bad about that half a cig after the accident. the important thing is that you didn't enjoy it and you have no desire to go back0 -
Great job craft338. Still right behind you and will hit 3 weeks tomorrow!0

i wanted to check up on everybody. my weight loss has slowed down like crazy. i've only lost 2.8 lbs since i quit 3 weeks ago. which is fine, but i usually lose that much in a week :grumble: there are a bunch of other factors involved, like a new medication, 4 parties and 2 nights out SO FAR this month....and that i've been doing this for 4 months and lost almost 50 lbs, and it might just be the plateau everyone keeps talking about...:frown:
i just really need to see a nice loss on the scale by friday. i need some extra motivation i guess. it's been a rough few weeks.
how r u guys doing?0 -
Craft - How about different kind of motivation.
- Your not coughing at all or not as much.
- your smell and taste is better.
- you can breathe better and your not out of breath, and have more stamina when exercising
If you are plateauing, you might want to add 100-200 extra calories per day.
Congrads for a few rough weeks, and it does get easier.
This past weekend I was up at a friends trailer - A couple who had quit smoking when we did, but they started again.
I was sitting at a table outside, and he lit up a cigarette. I had to step away that smell, that smoke/fog.
I can't believe I put myself through that for 25+years.
In 3 more hours.
I will hit 100 days not smoking, and refused 2500 cigarettes and saved $900.
That's crazy.
My name is Peter, and I am a nicotine addict.
I have stopped nicotine for 3 months, 10 days, 21 hours, 8 minutes and 48 seconds (99 days).
I've not smoked 2497 death sticks, and saved $902.63.
I've saved 19 days, 1 hour and 47 minutes of my life.0 -

Don't blame it on quitting. You have enjoyed four parties soooo, don't stress. Just go harder in the gym. Keep up the great work. I'm more aware of my urges since the minor slip the other night, but I refuse to dwell on it. The fact that the weather is keeping me from the gym has me moody (who would have ever imagined), but all in all I feel good.0 -
yesterday was a bad day. i don't even feel like getting into it. everyone was a total A hole yesterday, and i handled it horribly, had no patience, and probably made everything worse. i flipped out on like 3 people, of course they deserved every bit of it, but it's just not like me to go crazy like that. i always stand up for myself and can be pretty sarcastic and blunt, basically people don't really mess with me if they know me, BUT yesterday i was just a crazy person. i NEVER hold grudges and today, i'm not talking to any of them. i even got in ANOTHER fight with one of them this morning.
it's been almost a month since i quit, and i don't have any cravings or desire to smoke again. but my temper is horrible. i think it has a lot to do with my attention span and concentration. i have severe ADD to begin with (i don't take meds for it cuz i can't afford it) and the quitting has made it way worse. i think not being able to focus on anything for more than 2 seconds is making me frustrated which causes the temper lol I HAVE NO IDEA!! all i know is that i'm a complete psycho....and no, it's not PMS lol
i don't know if this is still the side effects of quitting, i could just be stressed out in general and not handling it well. i don't know. hopefully this weekend will give me a little bit of a break...

Good Luck to those of you trying to quit. I quit last July when I got pregnant (it was easy for me). But my husband just quit in April and its been a struggle for him. See I thought that he had quit months before but he kept sneeking them at work and I would catch him about once or twice a month if I got close to him before he took a shower LOL Good Luck everyone.0

just letting everyone know.....IT'S BEEN ONE WHOLE MONTH WITH NO CIGARETTES!!! YAY ME!!!!! well, in an hour and a half, but still.....lol0

so the weight is coming off again i had a MONTH long stand still since i quit, but i just lost 1.4lbs in less than a week and FINALLY hit 50lbs lost! i zig zagged calories a little too, but maybe my body just got used to NOT smoking. either way it feels awesome to be losing again!
a month without smoking: i can run! i never used to want to run, but i'm running everywhere. not like jogging, but "oh, i'm gonna run to that tree and see if i lose my breath!" luckily i work with kids, so i don't look like such a dork all the time running to random places. the congestion is gone, my skin is better, i don't smell, i can taste and smell everything....the only problem is laundry! now i can't tell if my clothes are clean or not cuz my dirty clothes don't smell like smoke! ha! it's awesome.
the ultra light e-cigs are pretty good for me right now, and i'm gonna move to "low" soon, then "zero" i MAYBE use it once or twice a day, sometimes i skip days or just forget about it. there have been a lot of times recently when parked the car and was like "wow, i made that whole drive without even THINKING about smoking!". it's really awesome "forgetting" about smoking. like after i eat, i don't think "this would be cigarette time right now" or when i go to the gas station or CVS, i'm not looking behind the counter for cigarettes.
another family party tomorrow. lots of my cousins still smoke like crazy, but one quit last week. hopefully he's still quit and he can chill with me while the other smokers go do their thing.
hope everybody is doin well!!0 -
Craft338, I'm glad you are doing so well. I had to giggle about the running part. Glad you work with kids lol. Stay strong, it gets even better!0

Check out couch25k - there are lots of threads online here. When I quit smoking that's what I headed out to do, and I surprised myself how much jogging I have done.0 -
