I am still here. LOL I took yesterday off. 2 or 3 days in a row is too much for my "old" body.

Did the 5K in 27:54 today. I am just stretching really thoroughly before and after the run. No warm-up walk or cool-off. Works for me but everyone else keep doing their own thing. Just trying to beat my own times. Jog/run at least 6mph at a minimum then throwing in sprints of 7, 7.5 and 8 at various intervals to keep it interesting. Thanks for all the motivation and everyone keep kicking butt in their own runs!!!!

Instead of thinking I'm slow and pokey, I picture you with really long giraffe legs. :blushing: Please don't ever tell me if you're like 4'10" tall. LOL

Jenny-Sick with a sick baby!! Big hugs to you! That is the worst! Hope you're both feeling better fast!

Haha.... yes you noticed!! I was supposed to run yesterday but I thought I'd do it in the evening.... well then I had a huge day around the house, cleaning, ding some painting, gardening..... of course then the evening came around and I was exhausted..... that's why I know I have to exercise in the morning! So now I haven't run for 3 days... not sure if that's a good thing because my body has had lots of time to recover.... or bad because its forgotten how to keep going.

So it nearly 7am here now and I'm just checking in before getting up and going to the gym to do my first dreaded 20 min run..... my two gym junkie sons tell me I have to "push though the 10 min mark and then you'll be fine .... yeah?! ....and also that I have to "just keep going till you feel like you're going to die" ... thanks very helpful aren't I doing this to feel good??

    So I'll report back soon!

Finished W4D3 part 2 yesterday! It was so easy, I feel silly repeating the week, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Looking forward to Week 5 tomorrow! The time increase seems daunting on day 2 but time marches on and I'm going to run along with it.

Good job all for keeping up with it (and exceeding it!). I didn't think I would be able to run like this a month ago.

    W5D3 - sort of done.....

Well I'm back from the gym.... and yes the mental challenge got the better of me.... I got off to a bad start, not only because I was dreading it, but I forgot to have anything to eat before I left (I normally have a banana to keep me going).... also forgot my water bottle and had no money to buy a bottle of water so just had to have a few gulps from the bubbler at the start.... so I started running and I turned off the stats on the treadmill so I couldn't see how far I still had to go... had a minor hiccup when I accidentally banged against my headphone cord and sent my iphone flying across the room.... back on and I managed to run 15 minutes straight before stopping.... after recovering I ran a few extra lots of 2-3 mins to a total running of about 23 minutes..... kept going to complete 5k in 45:30.... still running very slowly but I'm not worried about that as I can feel that speed will come later.

I can see that I can do it and I can really see how it was definitely my mental state that convinced me I had to stop.... I really wasn't at the lung exploding state.... my legs get very very heavy though.

I'm now sort of keen to go and do today again and try to make the 20 min.... not sure if I should try tomorrow or if I should have a day to recover.... what do you think??

Jenny- I hope your baby is feeling better. It's rough trying to do anything with a sick baby- they always want their mama!

Troy as always you're awesome. I'm slowly chugging along behind you. I'll catch up one day.

Lisa way to go on 15 minutes! Slow or fast, that's amazing to keep it up for that long. Forgetting water and accidently chucking something across the room is totally something I would do. And then I'd probably drench myself trying to get a drink from the fountain. Take a day to recover and go again.

Calibri- no need to feel silly repeating! I'm regressing at this point. Getting out and going, even with a repeat, is better than not going at all!

I went out for another attempt this morning. It was cold, only 29 out. I'm so not ready for winter. I only ran for a total of just over 15 minutes (5 minutes shorter than last time!) but dropped my overall time by 4 minutes. I'm really struggling with increasing the lengths of my runs but I seem to be going faster. I did 3 and 1/8 miles in under 40 minutes- that was my first goal time so I guess that's good. My next goal is under 35 minutes.

We're off for a short vacation on Sunday (after another run of course!). I'm going to get out at least once to run while we're gone and I'm crossing my fingers for some success though it will be tough as we're headed to Gatlinburg and its a bit more mountainous there than home since we're only in the foothills.

Good luck and keep it up!

Lisa, I about fell off the treadmill at 8mph when my smartphone fell off the ear buds and hit the treadmill and flew across the room. Wasn't fun doing the rest without music, but I wasn't stopping. lol

5k-27:37 today. Felt like I was going to throw up the last mile or so. Guess that means I was pushing it pretty hard. Glad I did after it was over. LOL Great luck to everyone on their paths this week and have a wonderful Sunday today!!

W5D3 - DONE.... I RAN 20 MINUTES IN ONE GO!!!!!

Sorry to shout but I am just so amazed...... after only getting to 15 min on saturday I was determined to redo it..... actually I was really struggling even before 10 minutes....hanging out for that voice to come on and say "you are halfway there".... but it was taking forever and i thought I might stop .... but then my sons words rang in my ears about just getting past the 10 min mark.... halfway there came and then I was in the zone.... next time i looked it was at 19 mins.... no way was I going to stop then....did the full 5k in 45:08.... shaving 22 seconds off my total (gotta take small victories).......yeah!!!!

Don't know how you do it in 27 min Troy..... you are really a runner now.

Jenny - hope you and your baby are on the mend.

laura - well done with your running.... my goal now is to get under 40 mins for 5k too.

Calibri - well done.... I don't think its silly repeating either.... I was determined to do that 20 min run before continuing on (I notice my next run is only 2 x 8 min and 1 5 min runs.... should be a piece of cake now)

Shakemybooty - how are you going?? I need to catch up with you.

    Happy running everyone:drinker:

Oh Jenny I am so sorry to hear about your baby girl..... what a nightmare for you and your family..... and so devastating to see a child in pain like that without being able to really understand why she is hurting..... I imagine there will be lots of dressings.... and she is still sick with bronchitis..... my thoughts are with you and your family now.... sounds like a very hard time for you all.

All the running and the food logging must seem so completely unimportant now.... and they are compared to what you are going through..... I am amazed that you even logged in to check the thread...... you take your time now to look after yourself.... you need to stay well to look after your kids.... we'll be here when you are ready and able to continue.

Best wishes for speedy recoveries for all.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Lisa-Great job!! I'm so proud of you!!

W6W2 today for me. I survived it but it was painful. I've had a crazy weather related headache for two days now. I wish it would decide once and for all if it wants to be fall or winter. (fall please!) Normally I work out right when I get up and I can't eat for a half hour after I take my thyroid medicine. I think I need to run later after I've eaten something!

5k=26:28 today. Gradually getting faster. Trying to do no slower than 6mph and mainly cycling back and forth between 7-8.

Jenny, hoping everything goes well. We are all thinking of your little one. Take care!

Hi everyone.... W6D1 done..... after that huge 20 minute run last time I thought today would be a piece of cake..... it wasn't..... I did it ok but I don't know if I could have gone for 20 minutes again.... I guess that's why this program works so well..... they throw that 20 minutes in there just to shock you and see if you can rise to the challenge but really our body still has a way to go to build up to doing that regularly.....the treadmill at the gym reset itself after 30 minutes and I wasn't quite finished so I had to just keep going again and estimate how far..... I'm sure I ended up doing my 5k in around 49 minutes.... did a few extra runs including an extra 5 minute one and then ran faster than normal for the last 100 metres..... so all in all I'm pretty happy and looking forward to next session.

We are going away on a family beach holiday in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping I might be at a stage where I will be able to continue by running on the beach.... I'm sure it will be much harder than the treadmill but I really want to give it a go..... I used to run on the beach every morning and night when I was a teenager..... a long time ago!!

Totally excited about my workout last night and thought I'd share.

I usually do intervals on my own on the treadmill when I train, but I happened to choose a LifeFitness treadmill at the gym last night, rather than the one that is in my usual spot. I was pleased that there was a speed interval button on it. I really blasted calories and felt like I got a better workout by using. I finally hit the 15 mile a minute pace by alternating between 4 and 5mph.

Aww, Jenny. I hope your little one will be okay! :flowerforyou: Burns are the worst.

Wooo W5D3 done! I was pretty anxious today about running 20 minutes straight, but I just relaxed and went with it. The first 15 minutes weren't so bad, but the last three minutes seemed to last for ever! I was so proud of myself, I stood on my treadmill afterward, smiling like a crazy at no one in particular.

    Wonderful job!!

    Sweet 13-Good for you too!!

I'm still getting my butt kicked by whatever mutant illness has come after my family. Two of the kids have or had strep. Now my youngest has a chest cold. I'm not sure what's getting me but it comes with a nice pounding headache. I've been putting off my workouts for a couple days but now it's making me feel antsy. Unfortunately today is W6W3 day for me and I'm not sure I can do it. Not looking forward to it at all which is pretty funny because it doesn't get any easier after this one. I'm going to give it a shot at nap time today. Wish me luck!! If you don't hear back, someone check near the treadmill for the body. LOL
