November Iron Man Challenge (Open Group)

So here's the challenge: The goal is to complete Ironman Triathlon mileage in the 30 days of November as follows:
Running/ Walking 26.2 miles
Biking 114 miles
Swimming 2.4 Miles

We'll use this forum all month to log and report our mileage. You can log daily or weekly-- whatever keeps you motivated!

As forum moderator, I invoke the right to make up rules, and mine that you may modify your mileage goals to suit your specific circumstances (e.g., no bike, etc.) but you must SET and declare those goals at the beginning of the month, and it must still be a combination of running/walking, biking, and swimming.

As a swimmer, I find the classic Ironman mileage to be biased against my sport, so I have set my goals to even up the time spent on each activity to approximately 1/3 each based on my October paces as follows:
Running/ Walking 22 miles (+- 6 hours)
Biking 73 miles (+- 6 hours)
Swimming 8.5 miles (+- 6 hours)

    I love the idea of this challenge but I don't have any access to a pool, so I wouldn't be able to do the swimming portion. Would it be fair to add some miles onto the running/walking portion, in place of the swimming, since the biking would likely be the easiest for me to do?

    edit - Considering something along the lines of...
    75 miles running/walking
    175 miles biking

    Which should be reasonable, but still challenging to complete.

    I would like to participate, but I am wondering how I can track my biking. I have an indoor trainer, but don't have any way to track distance. I usually use a GPS for outside. Can I set a time goal? I will use a modest estimate of my average speed and guess how long it would take me to bike the distance.

    I'm in. Today is a rest day so no miles. This sounds so fun...the biking will be super hard for me though--I'll try!!

    Ok, I am in. My bike ride today averaged 14 mph, my one before that was around 15 so I will go with 14mph.

    Today I did 15 miles on the bike, outside, and am off to Tuesday track.

  • I'm in. This is more in alignment with what I'd like to do anyway...other posts are just for running or just for biking...BORING. This is perfect for me!

    I'm back for a better go at this; I failed horribly on the bike and swimming last month! I hope to complete the following this month:
    Run 52+ Miles
    Swim 3 Miles
    Bike 50+ Miles (I hope more but weather is a pain!)

    YAY - I"m totally in... just bought a trainer today to help me get in the biking :) - now I just have to put it together!! Will follow the Ironman goals and keep you posted.

    IM Wales is 16th September 2012, 2 months before I turn 40. Maybe a way to celebrate that milestone?
